Vacant Values, Vindictive Vixens, Vicious Vices, Violent Villains, Vulnerable Vanity, Venomous Vows...V Growing up as one of the unattainable Bell sisters was always bittersweet. On one end, it prided me. I was one of the most desired girls of the neighborhood, a piece to a strong family puzzle that many envied. On the more trying end, we were declared a trio, branded by the actions of one another. Our mother, the matriarch, always instilled in us that family was everything; we were our sisters and a representation of her. There was power in the V she would often say. So while one of us craved the bad boys, another became blinded by success and status, and last, the baby, let s just say she was addicted to love. And that was us and it was tolerable. Just like you, we had obstacles and though our worlds were rocked, they were never shattered, because family was always at the core. But one day that changed. A sequence of ugly events placed our lives into an unstopping whirlwind of desire, betrayal, corruption, infidelity, and even death. Little did we know, our story, the story of The Bell sisters, the story of our lives, was being written in the process. Within these pages holds our secrets disguised as a nostalgic and dark tale of reality. Our family will never be the same...

I could not put this book down. It took me through so many emotions and had me on the edge of my seat at some parts.
This is the story of the Bell sisters: Valerie (the beautiful, bougie sister), Vickie (the strong middle sister), and Veronica (aka Ronnie- she’s the baby sister and is a lesbian). Their mom Verna did the best she could with her girls after their father died but throughout this story we see the Bell family foundation literally crumble. I mean, anything that could go wrong - went wrong. There was SO MUCH deceit.
You’ll laugh with them, you’ll feel their passion, you’ll feel their hearts break, you’ll be angry beyond words. You will definitely FEEL. You can tell this is an earlier body of work from Takerra but the fact still remains - she’s an incredible story teller.
I couldn’t believe out of all the reviews I read that a trigger warning was nowhere in sight. I wouldn’t have minded the warning especially since it involved a child 😢 (Takerra did speak on her stance on child ab*se in the author’s note at the end)
Why didn't I read this sooner!?! So much going on, so much heartbreak, so many surprises. I nearly cried on one part. There's definitely power in the V. Can't wait to read part 2 to see what's going to happen next in everyone's lives.
I don’t have a real review. This book made my stomach, heart, and head hurt. Is it one of my babies? Still, yes. Would I recommend this book to anybody? No, read at your own risk, I won’t be responsible for emotional damage.
Wow what can I say about this book?! Takerra Allen did her thing with this book!!! I have been looking for a book to hold my attention from beginning to end and this book definitly did just that.
There's Power in the V takes the readers on such an emotional journey with the three Bell sisters. All three sisters are different in their own right. They were all taught how to value family because family should come first.
Val is the oldest sister who from the outside looking in one may think she has everything going for herself but as we all know everything that glitters isnt gold!
Vickie is the middle sister who is married with children and will do anything to make sure her family is ok. She makes sure to always put her family first.
Veronica is the baby sister who loves her family deeply and is just looking for love in the wrong people because they take her kindness and use it against her.
All three sisters are beautiful in their own way and though they may each have moments with each other where they cant stand each other because of whatever reason but through it all they always have each other's back.
There was soo much in this Book Takerra gave it all ... drama, twists and turns, love, lies, deceit I mean everything! I laughed with the sisters and i cried with them this book can really take the readers on an emotional journey because you get a feel for each character.
Really a great read and I think everyone should read it!!
This book was so darn good!! Takerra Allen did her thing... She rarely disappoints and this time was no different! I enjoyed reading about the sisters who were all raised in the same household by the same mother but all turned out so differently... I really got a kick out of seeing these characters go through real life problems and deal with them like real people! I have heard that this will be a stand alone novel... If no other book has ever needed a sequel... this one does... I have so many unanswered questions... This book was AWESOME and though I have those questions the story was still well told!!! 5 STARS for sure!!
I was not ready for all the twists and turns through out this story. There were all kinds of interesting suprises and the story flowed extremely well. Great Job
From page one you learnt to Love the Bell Sisters. They were Smart, they were Sexy, and they were the Best Thing since slice bread. Their mother Verna Bell was big on family and family values. When you're going through you should be able to always count on family being there. You expect them to be there through the ups and through the downs, through the struggles, through the pain and whatever life has thrown your way. For the Bell Sisters that's what they had to do.
Valerie is the so called "Stuck Up" sister but it's more to her then that. She just don't settle for less but when situation and circumstance hit her life she finds herself longing for love in all the wrong places or is wrong?
Vickie, the mother, the wife; the sister that speaks her mind and tells it like it is. She's the strongest out of the Bell Sisters but when a curve ball is thrown her way can she handle it like everyone expects her to? She loves her husband more than life itself but will her husband secret destroy the very life out of her?
Then there is Veronica aka Ronnie is the baby and the one who still stays at home with Mrs. Verna. She is the kind heart one, the one who can't seem to get her love Toy out of her system. Will her love for Toy break her down piece by piece and will she be able to put the pieces back together again before she broken forever?
All of those questions and some will be answered in Miss Takerra Allen newest 5 Star read. If you ever read a book by her you will see her growth as a writer. You can literarily see and feel the characters emotions in this book. And long after you finish you will be wondering what they are doing, how they are holding up. I love everything about this book, I PROMISE YOU, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED! Good Job Miss Allen and May God continue to give you wonderful stories like this one.
I read this book over a year ago... not sure what happen with my review but here goes again.. I am doing this now because I decided after all the post and comments to just go back in myself.. I instantly remembered I was all in my emotions while reading this..... reason number one... that sick bastard......Duncan..... I had to stop at that first scene all my memories and feelings came rushing back...... but that again is a testament to a great writer... no matter how many time you read good work it will always be fresh to you... I have loved every single book I have read by Ms. Allen... she is one of my favorite writers. Power In The V was an emotionally ride for me (both times... frfr), it enraptures you from page 1... it is dramatic and powerful, it is the genuine tale of real family issues, real family attitudes and real family Love. Takerra had me lmlol.... and crying hard real tears. I know I am excited for Part 2 but I also don’t want to read, feel and yes see, the hurt that will Come to Victoria's.... (I use that because its also my name.. Lol,) way.... It will be harder than thinking he was dead.... I can only hope he learns the truth and tries to redeem himself, If Vickie,.... yes that Girl... allows him to... I also hope that Val is finally happy with Lazo.... ummmm ummmm ummm.... Yummy Lazo.... ok let me move on... If you have not read this book please add it to your list, You will not be disappointed... Trust me.... on this!!
OMG let me tell ya'll my damn Book Boos convinced me to read "There's Power in the V".... I have to say that first scene with Duncan (a drug dealer) I stopped and told them I can't do this; but they were like just keep going! I did and this book was an emotional ride for me.
Mrs Verna Bell widow has 3 beautiful daughter Valerie, Victoria & Veronica and 3 even more beautiful granddaughters Trixie, Talia and Treonna and her main purpose in life was to keep her family together and balance! The Bell girls were loved by almost everybody, but no one could love them more than Big Time drug Dealer Trent Davis and Alazo Moore and they would do anything to keep them happy and SAFE!
Baby girl Veronica aka Ronnie was the sweetest baby girl, she love hard and would give her life to make people happy. Valerie the oldest just wanted better for herself and was determined to achieve that goal even if it meant giving up the love of her life because she felt it was beneath her, but can you really fight TRUE LOVE. I loved Victoria aka Vickie that middle child she had a spunky personality love her HUSBAND and children more than life itself.
Those Davis babies stole my heart (out of the mouths of babes) & Lazo's son Quishawn amazing children! I cried and cried and cried! I absolutely loved this book.
I have read all of Takerra's work, and must say she has truly outdone herself with this one. Her growth as a writer is evident in this book! The character development was great, the suspense and drama kept you on the edge of your seat, and the length and depth ensured the fun wasn't over too fast. I laughed and cried and just thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it! I highly recommend this one.
I don't even know where to start with my review this book was so GOOD! This story will take your emotions on an emotional rollercoaster ride. The Bell Sisters give you front row seats into their lives, relationships and feelings. As their stories are told you will laugh, cry, scream and feel every emotion they are going through.
This author's writing is so vivid and detailed you will feel as though you are right in the story.
There's Val, the oldest sister who is the uppity and bougie one. She is unhappily married and suppresses her feelings while hiding a shameful secret. Vickie is happily married with kids but when a secret from eight years ago comes out her world will never be the same and there's Veronica the baby sister who is known as Ronnie. Her only problem is that her heart is too big and she gives too many chances.
I absolutely loved this story! I loved all the sisters and especially the momma. Don't even think about buying this book just get its full of everything that will have you reading it every chance you get!
I knew that this would be an amazing book, but I could never have expected this! The Bell sisters each brought something different to the table. One moment I was laughing then the next I was in tears. These characters seem so real that you can't help but to share their emotions. It never fails with every book Takerra drops there is always a new man in my life and this time it was Alazo, he is everything! Then there was Treonna's story, which is one that can be hard to hear, but happens constantly in the world we live in. This family was rocked to the core by multiple events, but through it all they had each other. I finished this book in one sitting, I just couldn't put it down until it was completed. This is definitely a 5 star must read. Glad to have this one in my collection.
I did really enjoy this book. I enjoyed reading how this family grew up, grew apart, but still remained close. The story made me cry, laugh and imagine the life that they led.
My favorite couple was Val and Lsnzo. Gosh the way the author described Lanzo, it seems that he was just so masculine and just oozed a male swagger that mad you instantly fall in love.
I was a little surprised about what Vickie choose to do in order to cope with Trent's disappearance. I think that she should have thought more of those beautiful little girls that she needed to care for.
I was truly saddened about Veronica's struggle to be happy.
The ending seems to leave a door for a second part, I sure hope so.
I do NOT give out 5 stars easily..... This book however, is deserving of 5 damn stars!! The characters were so vivid, I felt like I had grown up with them myself. If you are looking for a book that touches on every emotion this is it! I throughly enjoyed reading this book. I am hoping for a sequel and I am damn sure going to check out Takerra's other titles. This was my first time reading this author and I am extremely impressed!!
Awesome story. Ms. Allen delivered some hard blows but it made it that much more realistic. I enjoyed the relationships between the Bell sisters and their significant others, when matched properly. There was no shortage of drama and every time you thought you'd be happy for someone, think again cause it seemed to be bad news lurking around the corner. It ended bittersweet, had me a little hot so I'm hoping part two gives me more smiles than tears lol.
This book was a lot!!!…With as many gems that were dropped and the behavior of Duncan toward baby Treonna!!!…I can’t imagine what Vicki was feeling while watching that video on top of dealing with the absence of her husband!!!… Gianna irked every nerve in my body!!!…She played way too much and with ppl lives!!!…She was aware that Trent was not leaving Vicki, she knew eventually if she kept showing up where the family was, Vicki was going to question it!!!… Trent should have opened his mouth 8 years prior, especially since he and Vicki was not together when he hooked up with Gianna!!!…Gianna was happy with half of the man because what he felt didn’t matter as long as she got what she wanted!!!… Quicha, took her anger out on the wrong person!!!…Alazo should have been the person she directed her aggression towards, he should have been the person she brought her crew to confront!!…I get her anger about Val being the woman and feels like she violated her trust, but she wanted to work it out with Alazo and blame Val!!!… My heart broke for Vicki because the decision she made to remove herself, I’m sure was a hard one during her weak moments!!!…The loss of her husband, allowing someone around her children that hurt one of them!!!… I’m glad her and Treonna are on the road to recovery!!!…. I can’t wait to see how Trent acts when he finds out Vicki is alive and well!!!… I hope Gianna get the Karma she keeps asking for!!!…
Okay, I would rate this more stars if I could. You can tell that the author took her time writing this story. It was written very well and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I had to close my kindle app several times because my emotions were all over the place. Although I was somewhat uncomfortable during some parts of the story I was glad that the author shed some light on that topic. Please parents, watch and pay close attention to your kids!! I know that this story is fiction but unfortunately there are children out there who really live in that kind of trauma. You cannot trust everyone around your kids, and I’m sorry but sometimes that includes your “family” as well. My heart breaks for those who are living or have lived through that kind of pain.
I see that there is a second part so I’m on my way to read that right now!
I couldn’t put this book down! Where do I begin? My favorite character was Vickie. From the beginning she knew who she wanted! She had me blushing because her story was so real and so sweet and then it just…. 😓my heart was just broken for her. Trent, I just don’t know what to say about him. I really don’t. Gianna, can I lay hands through pages? She is so wrong and horrible . Alazo, is kinda a book bae. I like Val too. She was holding on to a lot of baggage. Ronnie’s story took me out. I was crying. She didn’t deserve anything that happened to her. Somebody needed to destroy Toy! I don’t want to give anything away but Duncan got his with his nasty AZZ! I actually don’t feel sorry for Quicha she is so low ambition ugh! I can’t wait to read part 2. This book was so emotional. 🥹 like love your family and pay attention to them.
Valerie (Val), Victoria (Vickie), and Veronica (Ronnie) are three sisters who live through some of life's traumatic ups and downs. First Val looses her husband, Braxton, because he is on the down low and their newborn baby, Venus, is dead. Vickie looses her husband, Trent, to the mafia and is paralyzed and in a wheelchair for the rest of her life. Lastly, Ronnie is brutally beaten and murdered! Ms. Vera, their mom, becomes the caregiver for her daughter as well as Trixie, Talia and Treonna, her grands. Really sad, so sad I cried. Maybe Valerie got her HEA with Alazo and his son Quishawn. Anyhoo, I would recommend this read and plan to get other books by the writer, Takerra Allen.
Takera you had me happy, angry, crying throughout this book I felt the pain of Ronnie death Toy needs to pay as well because Ronnie was always there for her and for her to do that so sad. When Vickie got that call about Trent I felt her heartbreak and then at the funeral when the baby finally spoke I yelled Amen so loud tears started to form. Now the last twist you gave us hope that this family will get back some of their happiness when the family is back together was that Trent was still alive. The trauma that was caused to baby girl by that perv so happy uncle Lonzo handle it can't wait to see what's next for the Bell sister's
I wish I could give this a 10. I just recently came upon this author and must say she is AWESOME!!!!! I hated read what happened to Ronnie but the boys made it Google for me. Val got on my nerves a few times, loved Vicki's character she was definitely my fav, not saying what else happened because it hard not say because everyone needs to read both books, it's more like everyday things that most families go through the highs and lows, just wanted to MS. ALLEN you this thing girl bravo to you. Getting ready now to read book 2.
Wow this book was wild! So much going on. It's always going to be crazy when you have drugs the Italian mafia, baby mama drama, marriage and lies all rolled into a story. I had a feeling everything at the end wasn't as it appeared and I must read the 2nd book because there are a lot of loose ends and a lot of questions that need answers. Some errors were found but this was a great novel. There is definitely power in the....V! I like this authors writing style and will definitely be reading more of her work!
Worthy of the five stars. Very well written and straight flow. Touches on your emotions. You an see yourself as some of the characters which makes it seem so realistic. This family experienced almost everything you can think of. Some things will make you uncomfortable but life is never always comfortable. My first time reading this author and I am pleasantly impressed. Takerra Allen came up as an author must read in an online book club.
I could not put this book down! I was not expecting it to be this good. I felt like I was holding my breath and couldn’t breathe because I needed to know what would happen next. I needed to know about the characters. One reviewer said don’t start the book until you have time to read. She was absolutely right. If I’m not mistaken, I read this book within 24 hours! It’s a smooth read and I was invested right away. Kudos to Takerra Allen!
