A brutal attack left Lori Brockton convinced she was damaged goods. By the time she emerges from hiding two years later, ready to run her family's famous brewery, she's determined to be independent--never rely on anyone ever again. Nearly a year of working in every corner of Brockton Brewing Company, from warehouse to pub, front office to kitchen, teaches her all she needs to know about the business. Then, she comes face-to-face with masculine perfection in a suit and her world is rocked in more ways than one. Garret Hunter is the new Brockton business manager who takes one look at the beautiful, sad young woman and his entire existence coalesces around winning her heart.

But standing between Garrett and what he believes is his true love, is a six-feet six-inch blond-haired bad boy brewer.

Eli Buchannan is a craft beer rock star, recently hired by Brockton to drag the company into the 21st century. He brings innovation and attitude plus a prima donna ladies’ man reputation. But he's sworn off anything resembling commitment, personal or professional, after getting burned at his last job on both fronts.

Garret Hunter is “The Perfect Man” -- handsome, successful, stable, eager to settle down. Eli Buchannan... is not. Compelling, smoking hot, creative and elusive, he represents everything Lori Brockton should avoid. But just as she makes a difficult choice, a drastic life-changing shift occurs, and nothing is ever the same again.

I think it’s safe to say that this book broke my heart. It’s at once tragic and yet joyous with a plot that is a significant departure from standard contemporary romance.

This is the story of Lori (Lorelei) Brockton who is recovering from a brutal attack in her past. She’s been hiding away with PTSD for a two years but is now ready to emerge to run her family's famous brewery, working in every corner of Brockton Brewing Company, from warehouse to pub, front office to kitchen, to learn all she needs to know about the business.

Her father has hired a new business manager – Garrett Hunter. He’s tall, handsome, controlled, calm, collected, a neat freak, masculine perfection in a suit – in fact he’s everything that Lori needs to help her heal and move on from her past. Her father also hires a Master Brewer – Eli Buchanan. Eli is mad, bad and dangerous to know. He’s Garrett’s polar opposite – passionate, spontaneous, compelling, smoking hot, creative and utterly wrong for Lori but she can’t help but be insanely attracted to him.

Lori’s past casts a lengthy shadow over her life and panic hovers, ever on the horizon and she starts a relationship with Garrett who helps her to heal and he falls deeply in love with her but she can’t resist her visceral attraction to Eli and they also embark on a passionate affair. It would be easy to judge Lori harshly here, and I think I to a certain extent I did, but she’s faced with two men who, together, provide everything she could hope for – Garrett is caring, protective, loving, safe and Eli is spontaneous, passionate and she can hardly resist the temptation he poses and both men are aware of what is happening with the other. It’s incredibly tough for Lori to choose between them.

Just as you think you are cruising along nicely with the novel, maybe slightly questioning Lori’s choices and decisions, everything goes to hell in a handbasket. I read a lot of books and there’s very few that will make me gasp out loud and this one truly did. Liz Crowe ripped the rug out from under me when I was least expecting it and the direction of the novel changed completely and nothing would ever be the same again and I felt like I had been hit with a sledgehammer.

I’m not going to give away any plotlines, you’ll need to read it for yourself, but make sure you have a box of Kleenex on standby. Paradise Hops is not your average feel-good romance – it’s a story of flawed, realistic characters finding solace with one another. It’s tragic and yet hopeful and so wrought with emotion that I had a hard time putting it down. It has pervaded my thoughts in the 24 hours since I finished it and I confess to having trouble moving on. I definitely feel a book hangover looming! There’s a beautiful epilogue which gives the reader some much-needed closure and I can highly recommend this – it’s well written, with plenty of surprises and thoroughly engaging.

4 stars contemporary romance

Initial reaction: I'll have to think on this one, but I really did not like this portrayal of the collective story at all. Too jagged of presentation, the characterization seemed off, and I did not like the presentation of the tough elements this story had to offer. I'm wavering between one and two stars, and I'm not sure it's enough for me to bump up to two because of how irritated I was with the overarching story.

Full review:

I went into this story thinking it would be a brief sexy read and it turned out to be an experience that left me cringing in more ways than one. There were sparks in this story that I saw, but in the end, it didn't amount to much.

I really wish that authors who introduce the issue of rape within the context of a story would have more sensitivity with its approach, because alongside the jagged narrative in the way that this starts off, I didn't think it amounted to more than simply a plot device. There was something about this reveal that seemed off in the context of the story. That's a shame because it wasn't as if the premise lacked promise, though I'll admit I spent quite a bit of time having to go over certain details in this overarching story again to understand what happened. That doesn't fare well in a brief narrative like this. The characters felt wooden and lacked a certain depth that I crave for any story I would pick up, but especially for the erotic genre and for the theme of this story.

I wanted to feel more for Lori's experience, but I'll admit the environment or circumstances of her employment wasn't well drawn or intimate. Lori herself had my sympathies in spurts, but more often than not, I found her actions to be irritating and out of character as the story went on. There was very little true depth to her, and the guys that draw her affections (Garrett and Eli) are just as frustrating. I liked Garrett from his surface attributes, but that seemed like all he amounted to. I did feel for him as the story went on particularly with how he cared for Lori in turns.

I couldn't have cared two cents less about Eli. He was a bonafide jerk and I didn't understand Lori's attraction for or trust in him. I'm not going to spoil who she ends up with, but I was really annoyed at how the triangle was done in this book and felt it didn't have any true coming to terms for the heroine or the other characters. For me, the story was forgettable and not very sexy or fulfilling at all.

Not a story I would really recommend.

Overall: 1/5

Note: I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, from the publisher.

Days after reading this I had to put my thoughts together before I was able to write this review.
First let me start by saying I loved the story. I also loved the author’s writing style. I know I will be reading more books by Liz Crowe.

Before I started this book, I knew that there was going to be an angsty part. I did not know where in the book it was going to fall or what it was going to be. What I have to say is that the tragedy took me by surprise. It came out of left field and hit me right in the head. I had to go back and reread a few chapters. After I realized what happened, I had to stop for a few minutes. “No way did that just happen” were my thoughts. Those scenes were written perfectly.

My only problem with the story was Lori. I liked her in the beginning, but then I did not care for her. I had some problems with her “thought” process. I felt like she never knew what she wanted. She frustrated and angered me.

I do not want to say much more. I want you to go into this book not knowing too much. One last thing I would like to say is that I craved an ice cold beer and Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata when I was done.

Did I skim? No.
Did I feel connected to characters? Yes.
Would I reread? Yes. I had to reread certain chapters to wrap my head around what happened.
Pace of the story? Excellent
Positives? I loved the plot. It was very interesting. Kept my interest throughout the book.
Negatives? Can’t think of anything except I did not care for Lori, but I guess when you dislike a character, it makes for a more interesting story. This book would make a GOOD book club read. There are so many things I would love to discuss concerning the characters and certain scenes in this book.
Do I recommend? Yes. Read it.

A copy of this book was provided by the publisher for an honest review.

I am not someone who minds reading formulaic novels. In fact, I often find comfort in reading thing like that because I know where the story is going from the first three chapters. Sometimes, however, I want to be shocked. I want to be able to say, "WHAT?!?!?!?!?!" I want to be on that emotional roller coaster. Paradise Hops is this type of book. I am still processing all that happened and I finished the book a few days ago. Liz crafted this story beautifully and every thing fits. It is not a "shock value" story, but boy did it shock me in spots.

Lori is a very broken character after a horrible and violent attack on her before this book even takes place. As this book progresses, we begin to see glimpses of Lori as she used to be. The real Lori. I think this was the most compelling part of the story for me. She made some really bizarre decisions along the way, but they all fit. her relationships, romantic as well as family and work, were fascinating to watch. I think my favorite of all her relationships was that between Lori and Mrs. Anderson, even though we rarely see the two of them together. I find it fascinating that Liz could create such a powerful relationship in such an indirect way.

Do not let the "love triangle" you see in the synopsis fool you. This is not your typical love story. It is so much more than that. Does it have hot and steamy love scenes? Yes. Does it have two amazing guys you only wish both fought over your affections? Probably ;). Does it have a HEA? I would say yes, although it was a far cry from the one I was anticipating.

This book is, for certain sure, not for those under 18.

How do I begin to describe a book that just emotionally tore my heart out? Liz Crowe, you broke me and I can't stop thinking about this book.

Lori is our heroine that has endured a horrific event and after years of hiding she finally begins to live her life. She returns to work at her family's brewery and has no idea that her life is about to spiral.

Meet Garrett Hunter, the new business manager. He is "all that and atleast 5 bags of chips". He's incredibly handsome, infinitley patient, loving, sensitive and charming. Their meeting produces sparks for both of them and he sets out to prove he is the man for her.

Enter Eli, the tall, foul mouthed, sexy as hell bad boy, master brewer her father has hired. Their first meeting is like fire and gasoline and the heat continues to grow between them.

Caught between two men, Lori is indecisive as to whom she really wants. There is so much back and forth that I did get a little whip-lash. Lori tried my nerves at times because I knew without a doubt whom I would want to be with and she just kept finding fault with both of them.

The point in the story that tore me apart I had to re-read because I just couldn't believe it. I sobbed. Then I swore. Then I sobbed some more.

The epilouge was fantastic, there is definitely love between the pages of this book, along with all the agnst that goes with it.

I can't go into too much detail because this is a book you have to experience for yourself. Just make sure there are Kleenex handy because there is no doubt you are going to need them.

5 stars because any book that leaves this much of a lasting impression on me totally deserves them.

It still amazes me how quickly I can be consumed by a novel; I guess that’s why I love to read! As soon as I started Paradise Hops I couldn’t put it down, I wanted more, needed to know more. I think I was completely hooked by the end of the first chapter. I found Paradise Hops to be an easy read with a strong storyline. I also found it to be a HOT romance, we all love those ;-) Just when I thought I would settle in for the night with a nice little romance novel I had the rug pulled completely out from under me! I love an author who can keep the reader on their toes, just when you think you have the story figured out, SURPRISE! I experienced such a range of emotions reading this novel yet I didn’t feel that I was consumed by my emotions. It’s great to be able to experience a lot emotion when reading but not so great when you can’t get past the angst you feel after you have finished a novel.

I was completely drawn to the main character, Lori (Lorelei). I wanted to know her story. Lori has experienced so much in her life and I couldn’t help wanting to know what was in store for her next. I found all of the characters to be strong and I felt emotionally invested in each one. It really shows when a lot of time has been spent on a characters’ development and I really felt like Liz Crowe accomplished this.

Paradise Hops was a fabulous read, it melted my heart and hopefully it will melt yours too ☺

I have been wracking my brain trying to come up with a review for this book. I can easily say that I devoured this book very quickly because I was beyond curious about where the story was headed. I seriously had no idea of what the outcome would be. The book pulled me in immediately. The characters were interesting and the story & setting was realistic.
Because this book was told from three different POVs (Eli, Garrett and Lori), the story never felt sluggish or repetitive. I love it when the author allows you in on all of the characters’ inner thoughts. In this story it felt so right because we were dealing with a love triangle. When I say love triangle, I don’t mean the kind where one choice is so obvious that the third wheel is just scenery and/or written into the story to create needless conflict. For me, this triangle was a bit like Sophie’s choice in some ways. Both Eli & Garrett were worthy of Lori’s love and I felt strongly for both of them. This is all I am going to say because I don’t want to ruin anything about this story. I had only read a few spoiler free reviews before diving in; I appreciated that they were written spoiler free so I could take this journey all by myself. I will say there was a bit of confusion on my part towards the end of the book (for several chapters) but in the end it made sense…random but somehow maybe necessary to the ending.
I will definitely be reading more books from this author.

I got this book from Netgalley because it seemed interesting. There was a huge note about it not being a "typical romance" and technically not erotica either since it was listed as it. I decided to give it a shot. I am so glad I did.

At first I have to say the writing did throw me off. I was also a little confused with the timeline since I felt it jumped at times. But once I got everything straightened out, I was hooked. The book seemed short but so much was thrown into it.

Lori's family own a brewery and she was working her way up in the ranks. Garrett Hunter was hired to help make the company a better business and profit more. From the first day, they are hooked on each other. But then Eli comes through to help out as well in the brewing department. Garrett is the perfect guy that any woman would want. Eli is the guy you want but shouldnt be bothered with. For some reason she is drawn to Eli and the story deepens a lot. There is tragedy, love and everything inbetween. I feel for this story and caught a few tears while reading. Very emotionally draining. Must read guys! It was worth reading till the end.

Lori Brockton suffered a brutal attack two years ago and finally emerged from being a virtual recluse to return to work in the family's brewing company business, determined to,learn every aspect of its operations. A year later, their newly-hired business manager sees her and is immediately seduced at first sight by the vulnerable and still rocky Lori. They become seriously involved and after a year, Eli Buchanan, the new brewmaster they recruited, sets off a puzzling attraction as his bad boy reputation and behavior is everything Lori wants to avoid. She has her perfect man so why is she drawn to someone else for any reason?

I normally avoid stories involving love triangles because someone inevitably ends up hurt and I end up feeling bad about it at the end of the book. While I certainly experienced some emotional turmoil, this was one ride I'm glad to have taken.

Lori's inner conflict about Garrett and Eli at first seems a bit selfish. Garrett really seems to be the perfect and ideal lover and I was confused as to why Eli was even a consideration.  But then, there are things Garrett does that make you question whether he's devoted to the point of being "stalker-ish" and Eli starts exhibiting his Nordic god-like qualities. Later, you start seeing more depth in both of them and you're emotionally torn all over again. The messiness of their situation was so very real with no one "bad guy" that crystallizes to make the solutions easier.

That's the point with this story. I was emotionally ragged throughout as I sifted through the complicated layers of each of the characters. Lori begins as a somewhat tragic figure who evolves into someone I thought was being incredibly insensitive and unfair, then back to being someone I empathized with completely.

The beginning was a little bumpy for me as the time periods moved back and forth and I had some problems anchoring. However, the story is so well crafted, providing three points of view with pretty smooth transitions as I never felt lost in understanding whose perspective I was reading. There were a couple of occasions where the timing could have been better but this was a complex undertaking of an incredibly compelling story about three very interesting people I found myself caring an awful lot about. There were moments I found myself hoping for the possibility of the three of them making it work! (No, it's not that kind of story, though the steam is most definitely HOT.) I loved both Garrett and Eli and ultimately understood Lori's struggle, believing she deserved both of them.

I could not put the book down and, yes, I had some sadness at the outcome but was completely taken care of by an ideal epilogue. I loved, loved, loved this book and still haven't let the characters go. And, by the end, I got the significance of the title and the wordplay...it will make me feel really good every time I see it going forward.  I'm rating it  4.5 stars and highly recommend it for the quality of the story, writing, depth of characterization and, ultimately, the romance.

"Now kiss me you crazy bitch before I lose my mind!"

Oh, my, oh my...where to begin with this one. This book had so many things that I dislike about a story: rape, depression, cheating, lies, hidden/repressed feelings...and yet I loved it! I would have given it 5 Hoots if some aspects of the end were different...but I digress. Best quote: "Now kiss me you crazy bitch before I lose my mind!"

I loved part one. The story opened and we got a real feel for Lori, her history and her struggles. She was rocked by the loss of her mother, but when she was brutally raped, her life changed forever. After two years of living in a fog, Lori surfaced and decided to become an active member of her family brewery. Then, she meets Garret and soon after Eli. Two amazing men. Two very different men.

Garret knows what he wants and he goes and gets it. While he is pretty close to perfect, Lori holds back. The story never explains why or how she feels (deep down), but she does seem to have a knack for screwing up a great thing. First, by pushing Garret away time and time again...then by flirting and kissing Eli. Garret hopes to force her hand to choose between him and Eli, only to have it backfire and blow up in his face.

Part two was hard. Lori left them both to pursue her dream of becoming a brew master. Both men came to terms with the other and then became friends. Eli and Garret decided to wait for Lori to return and choose for herself which of them she wanted. But time and fate forced a change of plans.

Part three...was super, extra, tearfully hard. Lori is back in Michigan, living in a fog until the day she switches on and lives to work. I loved Eli at so many parts in this book. And, I loved Garret. I can see the struggles and hardships that Lori experienced had changed her, but I wanted so much more for her. Both Eli and Garret wanted more for her...and neither ever asked for more from her. That fact was the amazing part that I loved about this book. Are there really men out there willing to sacrifice their own happiness and love for their one true love? I made a connection while reading this book...that I want to believe the answer is yes. I was so angry and sad about Creed (Kristen Ashley's book Creed) because he was not willing to see the love of his life happy with someone else, married to someone else, making babies with someone else. This story brought home to me just how much I love stories that give me that sacrifice, that unselfish love.

I hope you all enjoyed my ramblings over this book...try it! Enjoy!

This book was lovely; pure, honest, heart breaking, uplifting and just plain lovely. This is my first Liz Crowe book and I am a fan.

The story begins with Lori working at her family’s brewery learning the ropes so that later she can take over the business. She meets Garrett Hunter, whom her father has hired as the new business manager coming in to update and modernize Brockton Brewing Company. Though there is an instant attraction between Garret and Lori she holds back her emotions. It’s a good thing Garrett doesn’t.

There is another man in who has come into Lori’s life; newly hired high strung brew master Eli Buchanan. Tall handsome and blond, the complete opposite of Garret he attracts Lori like a moth to flame and she wants to get burned.

Lori begins a relationship with Garrett, a very tender and understanding relationship with no shortage of passion but when she is around Eli her primal instincts kick in and she has a hard time controlling herself. I can say I don’t blame her one bit.

The push and pull between this triangle was nothing short of emotional. Lori caught up with feelings for both men but not knowing how to deal with it tugged at my heart strings. With her past she was so careful who she loved and would not hand her heart over lightly. Lori has to make a decision not only in regards to the men who haunt her dreams and her heart; but a decision that can and will change the rest of her life. Her decision is not an easy one, the scenes that come along with it are difficult yet endearing at the same time.

I have read books with a similar plot line but Ms. Crowe handled it with beautifully with such raw emotion that I was lost in the scenes. I was shocked at the twist and even though I was a bit uncomfortable and confused with what I will call “the dream sequence” the end result is what matters. Nothing was handled with kid gloves. These are things that happen in life; life is not always pretty or presented with a bow. It’s tough, it is hard to deal with and it is never what we expect. I can say the same with Paradise Hops without reservation.

Paradise Hops is story about what life gives us and how much we can handle. It is a story about taking a chance on what you believe in and dream for no matter the consequences. Paradise Hops is a story about the power of love; not only what it can overcome but the heartache and joy that come along with it.

Paradise Hops by Liz Crowe is a refreshing adult romance novel full of passion and chemistry. Ms. Crowe is a talented author with a fresh and exciting voice. She brings her personal brewing experience into Paradise Hops and creates a realistic and dramatic romance novel full of ups and downs.

One of the best things about Paradise Hops is that the story line is so unpredictable and unexpected. A lot of romance novels that feature love triangles are extremely predictable, but I couldn't really predict anything about this novel. The author definitely kept me on my toes. The love triangle is an emotional roller coaster because there are two equally likable yet polar opposite guys. Garret Hunter is a gorgeous, successful, predictable guy. He is a little bit of a control freak, but he has a good heart. He's reliable. Eli Buchannan is a sexy, successful, spontaneous guy. He's a little rough around the edges, but he isn't a bad guy. He just isn't soft spoken and he doesn't sugar coat anything. Both guys are great, but they aren't without their flaws.

Overall, I really enjoyed Paradise Hops. It was an emotional romance novel full of angst. There were a few very emotional parts in this book so I recommend keeping a few tissues nearby. There were also a few moments that made me want to throw my Kindle across the room. I definitely didn't agree with all of the character's choices. To be honest, some of their choices made me extremely angry. But for the most part, I felt like the character's actions were realistic. In my opinion, it's a good thing anytime the author can't make me feel very strongly. Even when I get sad and angry, I think it's wonderful because it means that the characters and the story got to me.

I gave Paradise Hops by Liz Crowe 4 STARS (3.5 STARS). I strongly recommend this stand alone novel to adults who enjoy emotional and passionate romance novels.

Paradise Hops is a beautifully and heart wrenching story of healing and
redemption. A story about love, and how life can bring you beauty as you
push through adversity and find personal triumph on the other side.

This story tells the tale of the daughter of a brewery owner Lori Brockton.
She is the victim of a brutal attack that has effected her life in more ways
then one could even contemplate, all of which given the nature of the attack
feel real.

After years of hiding, Lori returns to the family business, her father's
brewery, the Brockton Brewing Company entering into a rotation that will
allow her to learn all aspects of the business from the ground floor up.

Lori is fiercely independent and has no desire or idea how to rely on
someone else. She is surrounded by mostly people who have know her since
childhood, they know her whole life story; that is until she starts to
interact with two of her father's newest employees, Garrett Hunter the new
business manager and Eli Buchannan the new master brewer.

Lori is taken aback by her reaction when she comes face-to-face with over 6
feet of perfection in a suit, Garrett. Her world is turned upside down in
more ways than one; Lori is faced with emotions she has not allowed herself
to feel in years along with a man who will not allow her to deny herself of
them anymore.

Garrett's reaction when he sets eyes on Lori, this wounded beautiful young
woman, is just as powerful. Garrett makes it is mission to help Lori heal,
to fix her and win her heart in the process.

What stands between Garrett and what he believes is his true love is one of
the few things in his world that Garrett most certainly can't control is
Eli, the six feet six inch gorgeous blond-haired master brewer. Oh the other
thing Garrett can't control is that Lori's rotation program puts her square
in Eli's space all working day.

Eli is professional trained and part of the Brockton Company plan to move
the brewery forward. Eli is confidence, with swagger, yes ladies he will
melt you heart, innovation and has a world class prima donna ladies man
reputation. Eli has been wounded before not in an attack like Lori but his
past has him swearing off commitment on all levels.

Lori's time on the brewery floor has her falling in love with the brewing
process and compels to learn all there is to know about the process of
brewing beers in all forms.

Lori is faced with what appear to be two opposites pulling at her; Garret
Hunter who appears to be the "The Perfect Man" handsome, successful, stable,
with a burning desire to have Lori as his own and Eli Buchannan who is
compelling, hot, creative, and on the surface a bad boy who will take what
he wants and then be done with Lori.

Lori desire to be independent and her desire to learn the family trade leads
her to one of those life turning points. The events that follow will take
you on a journey that is powerful, heartfelt, emotional and beyond layered.
The character development in this book is amazing, the story that unfolds
will grip you and keep you reading. Liz managed to show you personal growth
in many of the characters in this book. Her ability to show you her
characters development of emotional connections is masterful; here are a few
personal interaction as well as of all things a skye conversation that will
melt your heart.

This book is real story about what happens to the characters when life
happens.

Ms Crowe's story contains true character development, personal growth, and a
love story what will have breathless. Oh and the epilogue is EPIC!!!

Liz, thank you for the amazing read. I truly hope this book gains the
notoriety this wonderful written book deserves.

Synopsis:
The scars are more than skin-deep in this book. Lori Brockton starts the book with a sad history and spends most of it trying to escape both things that have happened to her and things that she's done to other people. This book is about the strength of the human spirit, our capacity to love, and the balance between guilt and action. Lori find an escape from her past torments in Garrett Hunter, an attractive, empathetic, staid, and straight-laced general manager for the company.  His love helps her climb out of the mire and establish herself again. That could be the end of the story...if it weren't for bad-boy brew master Eli Buchannan who Lori can't seem to resist. Trouble ensues and Lori must choose between two fantastic options.

Paradise Hops is such a great name for this book. When I initially began reading this book I had no idea how many twists and turns it would take me on. The transitions between past and present seemed effortless and kept me on the edge of my seat eager to find out what happens next. A huge thumbs up to Liz Crowe for the character development and growth throughout the book. I love how she sets up the story so that we are able to experience [briefly], Lori prior to meeting Garrett, and then watch as she slowly comes out of her shell and develops into a strong, opinionated, outgoing woman. As for Garrett, it wasn’t hard for me to fall for him although he is a little anal. He was exactly what Lori needed in order to deal with the past and move forward in her life. For the first half of the book we witness the progression of Garrett and Lori’s relationship and how they become more serious despite some of her own reservations. Reading the progression of the relationship is what helped me understand both Garrett and Lori as individual characters. We see Garrett being patient and understanding and course growing more in love with Lori with each passing day. But when we get to Lori we see how she is in a never ending battle with herself to except Garrett for who he is and embrace her true feelings. These two characters have some of the more realistic personalities (considering the circumstances) I’ve come across recently.

When Eli is introduced into the story it’s like a breath of fresh air. He adds to the already present tension that Garrett and Lori are beginning to feel and stirs up certain feelings in her which have her question what she really wants. Now some would ask why is this one of the best things in the story? I’ll answer that by saying who doesn’t want to get hot and bothered by a super sexy alpha male. Eli brings with him the opportunity of a ‘game change’. Like life, just when you think you have it all figured out you’re thrown a curve ball.

Another thing I really enjoyed with this book is the in-depth brewing knowledge. You could tell that the author comes from a micro-brewing history and knows a lot about the topic and I think it provided a very strong backdrop for everything else that was going on.

Over all Paradise Hops turned out to be more than just a book about love. It’s the story of overcoming some of your biggest fears, taking chances on people and believing in yourself. Throughout the book people find strength when you think they have none left. This was a great book with a lot of great points. I absolutely will recommend this to those that enjoy angsty story-lines and romance!

Liz Crowe doesn't write typical romance. She doesn't write those romances that most of us are so fond of, those that wrap up all the conflict and angst by the end of the book and present readers with a happily ever after that takes readers to cloud nine for a while. Not that there's a problem with those, but Liz is different.

Liz Crowe writes "Romance for Real Life." What is that you ask? "Romance for Real Life" is just what it sounds like, it's more real to life, her characters are as complex as everyday people. It would be easy to see Garrett, Eli and Lori in the average, everyday person. If you want to know more straight from Liz herself, then check out this post on her site. She explains it better than I can.

Point blank, Paradise Hops has the tragedy of a Shakespearean play, the love triangle of Pearl Harbor (the film) and the emotional upheaval of P.S. I Love You. This is not an easy journey, it is full of confusion, angst, difficult choices and heart breaking situations that put love to the test and forces one woman to confront the consequences of her choices head on.

Lori Brockton is in a tough situation, she's caught between two men who could be "Mr. Right" for her. If only she could be sure which man IS the right one for her.

It would be easy to judge Lori for her inability to choose between Garrett and Eli but before you bring out your pitchforks, think about this: Could you choose between one man who completes your need for a quiet, strong, dependable love and another man who completes your need for a wild, passionate, addictive love?

Uh huh, not as easy to judge her now is it?

Neither man is wrong for Lori, they just appeal to totally different sides of her emotionally and sexually. It's nearly impossible to hate either one of them because both Garrett and Eli love Lori deeply and sincerely but each in their own unique way. Author Liz Crowe created sympathy for all three characters when it would be so easy to cast one or more of them as villains. The only true villain were the circumstances Garrett, Eli and Lori find themselves in.

Paradise Hops is so heart breaking and emotionally challenging that at times I forgot I was in fact, reading fiction and not the memoir of a woman who has seen and experienced a full circle of emotions: Love, Pain, Lust, Loss, Devastation and ended up, after much time, in love and content with her life.

I am not ashamed to admit, I cried with this book. Not silent tears mind you, but sobs, loud ones and it involved tissues. I was surprised at the emotions this story brought out in me.

With its erotic, romantic scenes, multidimensional characters and bittersweet ending, Paradise Hops is an incredibly moving, emotionally charged roller coaster ride that readers won't soon forget. If you only read a handful of books this year, be sure to include this one!

This was such a great read wit a lot of emotion. I couldn't put the book down from the moment I started reading. Liz does a great job with the character development and you feel the emotions that the characters are going through.

It tells the story of Lori Brockton, two years after being brutally attacked. She is ready to come out of "hiding" go work at her family's brewing company and begin to take charge if her life. Become independent and rely on no one.

Then she meets Garrett the new business manger who is everything she should want in a man. He takes one look at her and does everything he can to capture her heart. But there is one thing standing in his way. The new master brewer Eli Buchanan.

Lori needs to learn the ins and outs of the breeding company therefore needs to train under Eli. Eli is a rock star of the brewing world and arrogant and everything she should avoid in a man. And yet she can't stop thinking of him.

Lori Lori has fallen in love with brewing and her desire to become independent forces her to make a tough decision. Be that is difficult but not as tough as dealing with the events that come next. This is about Lori and facing the challenges that life has thrown her way (whether good or bad). Coming to terms with these events and learning how to deal with them. It is an emotional ride for the reader as well. Liz does a great job of bringing out those emotions and its great to see the character growth in this book as well. And for me the epilogue was truelly amazing and for me made the book.

I thought this was the sweetest book ever! I loved the male characters, Eli and Garret. Garret is the good guy the man that you take home to your parents. He's successful, considerate, sensitive and sexy while Eli is the epitome of the bad boy! He's a master of his craft, but he's arrogant, tactless, mean... and sexy. When given a choice how could you choose? I had very hot/cold feelings toward Lori, initially I liked her then I didn't like her until the end of the book then I liked her again. Regardless of my feelings toward Lori, I felt like we went on a journey of growth with Lori, Eli, and Garret. These three characters started out drifting their way through life; Eli was moving from job to job, Lori was trying to find her strength, and Garret while he seemed like the most put together was also attempting to accept himself. What tied the three together was the events of the past that damaged them emotionally. But, in each other and their journey of discovery they learned to accept their weaknesses, find their strength and form lasting bonds of love and friendship. If love a love triangle and a sweet happily ever after, then Paradise Hops is for you.

Lorelei (Lori) Brochton is a hot mess. Strong-willed, German speaking heir to her family's brewing company---and dealing with the aftermath of brutal sexual assault. She has survived long enough, but is not ready to live again (and by live I mean have mind blowing sex) until she meets him, and him.

Enter Garrett Hunter, the king of high perfectionism. His calamitous youth burgeoned a man of control, organization and destiny. He falls head over heals for Lori, instantly.

Then there's Eli Buchanan, rogue brew master. He breaks hearts and lives everywhere he goes, and he's got tattoos. Yeah, he wants Lori, but it's not about love, or is it...

The stage is set for a drama filled romance filled with Lori's ennui. She gets her life back, but is torn between her own perception of being controlled by Garrett, and her ultimate desire to control the actions of Eli. Stuck in the middle. No Spoilers, but this book left the formula a few times which kept me reading (but honestly, I would've finished it anyway because I am just like that). Ultimately, in everything we do, read, here or say there is a message that is greater than what we would expect. The message I got was:

Maybe things were supposed to be one way, but right now they are not, so deal.

As the story begins you meet Lori who is emotional scared from being physically attacked. 3 years after the incident she meets the new manager of her family brewing company, Garrett Hunter.

Garett is able to help Lori heal and find her way back. Working in her family business, her father has her on rotations of different departments to learn the business. She is about to start a long rotation in the brewery.

Eli, hot new brewmaster who is a really jerk to everyone was there to teacher everything about brewing and in the process they begin to lust after each other.

After falling in love with the brewing process Lori is accepted to the German school of brewing. And here is where there is a MAJOR twist I did NOT see coming happens. It is a life altering event for Lori, Garrett and Eli!

This story is a heart felt and very well written story about a woman who overcomes life challenges and end the end is stronger. I'm sorry to not tell you more but you will have to read it to find out the rear because it is life altering! I hope you enjoy and much as I did!!

Oh my goodness, WTH??!?!? This book was nothing, NOTHING I was expecting. Hell, after reading the book I don't even know what I was expecting. It was an emotional roller coaster.

This isn't a love triangle, though it may seem that way at first. There is Garrett who is kind, protective, controlling and completely in love with Lori. And then we have Eli, he is pure temptation; and those stolen moments in the brewery.. *sigh* .

This book is about the choices we make in life and the consequences of those choices. About 80% into the book, Liz Crowe throws a curb ball and surprise! I completely fell apart. At the end,Lori chooses the guy I wanted her to be with from the beginning, but interestingly enough, somehow I felt she settled for 2nd best. Thanks for the curb ball there Liz, if the choice would have been made prior to this, I would have felt a little better about her last choice :)

I highly recommend this book. A great way to spend an afternoon.

Happy Reading!

Paradise Hops is a spicy love triangle set in a brewery. I know, what else could you want? Well, this isn’t your typical romance novel. Think Nicholas sparks drama with more heat and some major character growth.

Lori Brockton is attempting to put her life back together after a brutal attack, by taking over her family’s famous brewery. In walks Garret Hunter, a perfect specimen of all things male who falls for the sad woman, which turns him all around. The only issue is, Eli Buchannan, a craft beer rock star and total bad boy.

At times, the characters might be unlike-able and you’re unsure who you wish to win the heart of our beloved Lori Brockton. In my opinion, this adds to the flavor and originality of the book, making it more than a typical romance.

If you enjoy a story that is filled with steamy scenes, heart wrenching moments and a love triangle, then Paradise Hops is a book you’ll enjoy!

This one was a bit hard for me at times and I had a real hard time with the heroine. But it was definitely real-life and it was definitely classic Liz Crowe! It ended up turning around for me and I ended up really really loving it! It was emotional it made me laugh it actually made me cry and left me feeling satisfied at the end, Something I was a bit worried about when I was about halfway through. Overall it was a great read like all of Liz's books and I can't wait to see where she takes us next!

Rating: 2.5/5

To begin, I will admit that although I had heard good things about Ms. Crowe’s books and even had a couple on my list to read, I had not read a single one until now. Sometimes a book just comes along in unexpected ways and you go into it thinking “Why not? I’m up for something new and fresh.” I had skimmed the synopsis, and it appeared to be a typical angst-like romance with the potential to stimulate more than my ability to have hot flashes on command so I dove right in.

Ms. Crowe has developed a cast of characters that come alive on the pages flaunting their flaws and all. To start we are given a shattered woman who’s lost in a fog that is slowly suffocating her ability to return to the lively and spunky woman she once was. Lori Brockton is a frustrating character that you want to shake to death one minute and then smother her in a hug the next. To see someone compartmentalize her feelings and push away any real social contact was hard; but in the same sense, I’m not sure if I personally would not do the same having gone through what she has. Everyone deals with things differently, and it was refreshing to see real trauma and emotions dealt with in an unfavorable manner and being forced to accept it. As a reader I found her irritating and selfish and there were times I saw the potential for a better character development and growth.

Of course, you can’t have a romance novel without a handsome man or two, and Ms. Crowe did not skimp in this department. First, there is Garrett Hunter, the man we all want to see opening doors for us and treating us like the princess we all believe we are. He is undeniably handsome with a crisp and clean feeling that hangs a suit like few others but also has the education, drive and dependable qualities we all crave beyond the eye candy. His first interaction with Lori alone made my heart go pity-pat, and I was immediately cheering for him to be that changing force I knew Lori needed from page one. Even from the very first few pages, he made me feel safe; and his compassion and need to care for Lori was evident from the get go, which was exactly what she needed. Now that we have established which team I started on, I will admit that when Eli Buchanan was introduced you could almost hear the “Boos” coming from my own inner monologue. Of course, you can’t have a good romance plot without some angst driven-lust and Eli provided more than enough lust and anger for me and Lori and probably a whole slew of others as well. He’s the bad boy with a temper that has a flash point of zero. But what makes him appealing is his passion for brewing that makes even me want to be on his payroll and even in his warpath just to watch the creativity take over. To say he demanded attention is an understatement…he commanded it and got it. When Eli was in the room, everyone knew it and felt it long before he opened his mouth. And who doesn’t find that kind of man addictive or attractive? He was very selfish which was a turn off for me in a way and still had me on the fence with him until the end. These two men were polar opposites and seemed to be more developed than others. They each had their own positive elements which helped keep me as a reader when I wanted to walk away.

Lori goes through some serious mental and physical anguish and changes; but the most important thing to know is, she needs these highs and lows in order to find her own pace at which to become the Lori she was destined to be. It may not be the person she set out in the world to become, but how often are we exactly what we thought we were supposed to be? Of course, if I were in the vicinity of either Garrett or Eli, I would be a ball of contradictions; and I was right there with Lori as she dealt with each blow as they came. I didn’t agree with some of her decisions; and at some point, I wanted to reach through the pages and take Garrett all for myself as she batted these two men around like they were kitty toys.

The characters and story plot are, at times, intense and painful but yet are filled with a painful passion that was refreshingly unexpected when they shone through. Ms. Crowe has forced me to feel sympathy for each character in a different way and proved that even in fiction, life isn’t always easy or fair and that happily-ever-after come in all shapes and forms. Garrett’s, Lori’s, and Eli’s hearts were tested and broken several times only to be glued back together with an outcome that was not foreshadowed. The only, and very small difficult moments for me to comprehend, were a three chapter segment set in a different time and place. I stumbled through this part questioning why it was there; and after two reads, I still don’t have a definitive answer. I feel like the book could easily hold without these particular parts and maybe even spare some room for more elaboration and growth in the parts I wanted to see more of. It didn’t ruin the story or my feeling for the book–just left me a little lost in the reasoning and purpose column. The other thing that stuck out to me was the brewing company itself. I know nothing of beer/lagers/ales or their processes; but it was evident to me that Ms. Crowe is very passionate about this area, and it came through in the story. There was technical terminology that I was unaware of; and being that I have never experienced a brewery myself, I found myself Googling images to give a more complete mental picture. I don’t see myself going out and sampling brews (it’s just not my choice in beverages), but I can now say I know the difference when I see the labels on bottles. I did enjoy this story, even the parts I wanted to scream at, the parts that made my eyes roll, or the one I cried at. This story contains some serious heat and passion but are enhanced with elements of forgiveness, acceptance, and ultimately love that makes this more than just a steamy clichéd romance novel.

What the hell did I just read? Should've know when the story started with one scene then the next chapter was a year earlier. Garrett started to feel too pushy and then I felt sorry for him, then I liked him, then I was like wtf did you do that to him for? Lori was not likeable at all. So annoyed by how wishy-washy she was, always wanting the other guy when she was with one of them. Make up your mind or leave them both alone. Eli was a dick. Didn't like his aggressive attitude towards Lori or the other employees. Did not see any way that he and Lori could have a HEA. Did not like the love triangle, did not like the cheating, did not like the stupid thing that happened to Lori nor what followed with Garrett. Did not like this book at all.

Ahem, can I have your attention please. My review is my review and my opinion, no one elses. I will NOT tolerate flaming, bad manners, cyber bullying or name calling on the blog. If you don’t agree or like my review, that’s fine. Its your opinion and I RESPECT that. Do I agree with other reviewer’s reviews? No but I don’t cyber bully them either.

I realize that there are some people that don’t “get” Liz and her books. Personally, I do. I’m a true romantic and I crave the HEA more than anything in the world. Do I totally agree with some of the situations in Liz’s books? No, I don’t but that makes for great writing. Liz creates worlds that are real, emotional, upsetting to some, hurtful at times and I may not agree with the story or how it ends and why. To me that’s great writing. Its thought provoking, emotionally engaging and great conversation. I have stopped reading some of the so-called bestseller authors because they tend to write the same thing over and over. I got bored and tired of the whole “let’s just recycle a story and see if anyone notices” rote. Or series that have been around too long. Yawn… On with the review…

This was one of the hardest books of Liz’s for me to read. It brought out emotions and images that I had tucked away for over 20 years. I’ve experienced the horrible situation that happened to Lori and the feeling, at least for me, never goes away. It effects you in ways that I can’t describe. There is shame, nothingness, numbness and rage. Unless you have walked in our shoes, you can’t judge or offer an opinion on what anyone should’ve, could’ve or would’ve done in that situation. Did she make decisions that I don’t agree with? You bet but at the same time, this is Lori’s life, not mine. Again, powerful writing. (At least this time, I didn’t throw my computer) I related to Lori and her way of thinking.

Picking between two completely different men is a situation that, thank goodness, I’ve never had to do. I could see Lori’s dilemma. What to do and who to pick? Are there situations that aren’t Harlequinisque? You bet but again, that’s a real life decision that Lori made, good or bad depending on how you look at it in context. Personally I couldn’t choose but I choose my guy for Lori. You have Mr. Perfect and the Wild Man. Never to go down the easy road, Liz created situations for Lori that made her think, become emotionally attached and then, have the rug pulled from underneath her. Bravo!

The ending was a complete and total shock to me. Didn’t see it coming and then BAM…I read this book when I first got the ARC and the review you are reading is my second and final draft. When I read my original review on Monday (its Tuesday), I realized that I had actually given away spoilers. Horrors, I know. I also thought, why did I write such a normal review for Liz? Liz’s books are not the “norm” so why does this review have to be normal? I talked about how well Liz incorporates the brewery world in this book, the raw and emotional sex that she writes but most people already know that about Liz’s books. What I wanted to talk about today is the way Lori effected me as a woman that had gone through a horrific event in her life and how she dealt with it and the fallout. Trust me, I still have some hangups and emotions that come to the surface from time to time. Books that I will not ever read because of the content, no matter if it is fiction and that people just rave about.

In the end, Paradise Hops is a book about a woman’s struggle to deal with the fallout of events in her life that shapes her, molds her into the woman that she will become and how she deals with it. Its emotional, raw and the characters drew me in and never let me go. I still think about Lori almost a month later and try to put myself in her shoes. Nope, can’t do it. My path and her path were different. And that makes for a great thought provoking book. *sniff*

1.5 Stars Paradise Hops is an adult contemporary romance by Liz Crowe.

Two years ago, a brutal attack left Lori Brockton convinced she was damaged goods. Now, as she finally emerges from hiding, she’s determined to be independent—never rely on anyone ever again. After a year of immersing herself in nearly every aspect of her family’s famous brewery, from warehouse to pub and office to kitchen, she’s learned almost everything she needs to know to run the business—Brockton Brewing Company, the largest craft brewery in the state of Michigan. She has just one more rotation to go—Brewing 101, right after the new master brewer comes on board. But when she comes face-to-face with Brockton’s new business manager—masculine perfection in a suit with deep green eyes and old-fashioned, courtly manners—her world is rocked in more ways than one.

Garret Hunter plans to bring Brockton Brewing kicking and screaming into the 21st century. Starting with reorganizing the office, modernizing the ordering system, increasing efficiency, cleaning up the warehouse, and then, expanding the facility. But when he meets the owner’s daughter, he takes one look at the beautiful, sad young woman and his entire existence coalesces around winning her heart. But standing between Garrett and true love is a six-foot six-inch blond-haired blue-eyed bad boy brewer.

Brew master Eli Buchannan is a craft beer rock star—a brewing celebrity, a genius. He’s just what Brockton Brewing needs, bringing innovation to their staid, complacent attitude in a rapidly changing industry. He’s arrogant, temperamental, and has been known to quit breweries if the mood suited him. He'd sworn off anything resembling commitment, personal or professional, after getting burned at his last job on both fronts. Until he meets Lori Brockton and falls in deep, dark lust, shattering his long held resolve.

During her six month rotation on the brewery floor, Lori falls in love with the brewing process—the art of it. Wanting to know more, to learn from the best, she applies and is accepted to the Munich Brewing Institute in Germany. Now faced with the ultimate dilemma, Lori will have to choose between Garrett, Eli, and the opportunity of a lifetime—one she wants more than anything …

Paradise Hops is not—at all—what I expected, but, in all fairness, I never expected a ‘happy-ending-for-all’ romance, because someone inevitably winds up getting hurt in a love triangle. The story contains complex, realistic characters that are also deeply flawed. The writing was a bit confusing at first, shifting from present to past tense and back again. Then, just over halfway through the story, everything goes to hell. Rarely, have I ever wanted to put a book down and just stop reading it. But, alas, I had to know how the story ends. I can honestly say that I’ve never read a story before in which I so vehemently disliked the heroine. At first, Lori was a tragic figure whom I felt deep sympathy for. But as the story progressed, that shifted into complete exasperation and anger as Lori evolved into someone incredibly insensitive, cruel, and in a word … selfish. Paradise Hops is heart-wrenching, emotionally painful journey about life choices, consequences, loss, and solace with a less than satisfying—in my opinion—HEA.
