Three years ago, death blew out the candle in Alexis Hall's life and left her devastated. Nothing could replace what she'd lost, not even the sexy stranger she awoke married to. Still, she finds it hard to ignore the dangerous sparks he triggers within her. She knows Bradley Cox took advantage of her. What she doesn't know is he holds a secret that will change everything.
But Bradley isn't her only concern. In a moment of desperation to somehow reclaim what she had lost, Alexis made an offer to a vampire--free blood. Her blood.
In a story of heartbreak and obsession, a simple ad changed Alexis' life forever and on one fateful night her dreams and her nightmares will collide. Can she trust Bradley? Or is he her worst mistake? Can she retract her offer to the vampire? Or will she fall under his deceptive spell?
Paranormal romance and urban fantasy author. I'm a small town girl from South Dakota who enjoys secret affairs with vampires...in novels. Shhh, don't tell anyone.
While I love to read almost any genre that is out there to fill my need to read, there is one that I fall back on whenever I am looking to just enjoy myself: paranormal romance. If there are vampires involved, I am especially happy! I cannot help it, I have been a paranormal/fantasy genre reader since I was in Pampers – it happens, I blame my mom! That being said, when I was offered a free Advanced Reading Copy to read and review Wanted: Vampire (Free Blood) by Lisa Rayns, I was up for the challenge!
What did I think? Wanted: Vampire (Free Blood) is about a young woman, Alexis, whose life was turned upside down three years prior when her baby died during childbirth. She never returned to the fun-loving and carefree lifestyle she had enjoyed before. She became withdrawn, sullen and attempted to be alone as much as possible. She contemplated death, but never suicide, since her goal was to be with her daughter in the afterlife. One night, after a few too many drinks, Alexis wakes up to find herself married to a handsome and completely devoted doctor, Bradley, who obviously has a secret. He is beyond smitten, and at times, a bit on the “too good to be true” side of things. Following a misunderstanding, Alexis makes an offer to an egotistical vampire, Malik – all of her blood in exchange for her death. Where will this leave her in regards to Bradley? Alexis is a great heroine, she makes some really bad decisions at times and is a bit reactionary, but I like her. Ms. Rayns takes a new twist on an age-old myth and incorporates some new age myths on the vampire legends. I love the interactions between the characters; they each have their own emotional challenges that show through in their dialogue and actions.
The Verdict Wanted: Vampire (Free Blood) is a fun and interesting read that keeps you on your toes. The characters are well thought out and all contribute to the scenes without unnecessary “background noise”. The end had a great twist that I did not see coming (and I am usually good at predicting where these things are going!) and I look forward to seeing where it will go from here and reading the next book in the series!
I purchased this book because I loved reading her previous books. Her novella Curse of the Egyptian Goddess, A Destined Death, and she had a short story in the anthology Cupid Painted Blind. Through all these books I feel that she has grown immensely as a writer. Her covers are amazing on all her books they capture the Essenes of the characters that she is building in the book. Her story's flow freely and effortlessly. She takes great care in developing her characters. In Wanted: Free Blood Alexis is a woman who has given up. She looks for ways out of the misery that she calls her life. In walks two completely different men into her life. Each one want to offer her something but she is torn because she has needs from one but that comes at a very high price and she doesn't feel she is worthy of the other man. Alexis has her life thrown into a serious spiral when she finds something out that threatens to drive her into a tailspin. I highly recommend this book if you want a book that keeps you on your toes and unable to put it down. You will find out if what you wish for most in life can be obtained even if you have given up all hope. Thank you so much Lisa for taking us on a amazing literary journey that feeds our heart and soul along with our imagination for the paranormal. Run out and get this book after reading it get her other books to tease and tantalize your imagination. I have it on great authority that we are going to be seeing a lot more from Lisa she is on a very creative flow.
This book was provided free from the author in exchange for honest literary review.
Alexis Hall has lived the same nightmare for the last 3 year's. Over and over the images play in her mind. She feels the horrendous pain, and then her daughter is born..dead. Living this nightmare over ans over has kept her trapped in her own little world. Once Broadly ran into Alexis he knew his heart was gone for good. He could sense the damage done to her, but realized she was worth the struggle. Now he had to convince Alexis that she was worth it. Bradley also is carrying around a secret, one that could push Alexis totally over the edge. I loved this story. It's not at all predictable. In fact, it has you guessing right up until the end. I would love to see Tara get het own spinoff book as well. She is a tough as nails female, and I loved her style. The characters are likeable and well developed. Either I loved them or hated them....I for one couldn't stand Malik!!!! He was way too cocky for my liking. The plot was very well paced and keeps the reader on your toes. Overall editing was very good. This is a recommended read for lovers of paranormal fiction. It is different and does hold the readers attention. I would hope that there is another one of these coming in the near future. Michelle McQueen Book on the Bright Side Review Panel
Vampire and witches have been done before, but Lisa Rayns brings a fresh perspective. Wanted: Vampire (Free Blood) had so many twists and turns it left me breathless. This nonstop thrill ride follows the roller coaster that is Alexis Hall’s life. Between her past and a present that pulls her in two very different directions, poor Alexis struggles just to make it through the day, and come to grips with her troubles. I could not put this story down. The characters are lovable, the story arc well developed, and the ending is most satisfying. This book even comes with a moral: Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it. If you want a good paranormal romance to read sit back, strap yourself in and take the ride that is Wanted: Vampire (Free Blood).
Lisa Rayns gives a unique and plot twisting story of Alexis Hall, a woman with nothing to lose but her blood . Alexis makes a offer to a Vampire that may cost her more than her life.
The characters are well developed and I was taken on the same emotional rollercoaster that they were. Rayns is able to put you into her story and soon you forget you have a Nook in your hand ( or that other reader :) )and you are in the adventure with Alexis.
“Free” Blood Comes at a price… Wanted: Vampire (Free Blood) is an original take on vampires and a fast-paced novel with nonstop action. Readers quickly come to understand the reckless behavior of the heroine, Alexis, and to feel the underlying desperation she endures on a daily basis. The twists were unpredictable and kept on coming, and the two sexy male characters serve up both romance and intrigue. Author Lisa Rayns carefully balanced the dark needs of vampires with an overall sense of hopefulness and redemption.
I was gifted this book by the author in return for an honest review. Wow!!! This is vampires on a whole new level. The author had me drawn into the story right from the start and I really hope that there is more as this was brilliant. Can't wait to read more by this author :)
This book is absolutely fantastic!! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I love Alexis even though she made some questionable decisions. Bradley is every single woman's dream. I read this within hours, I could not put it down. I look forward to reading more from this author.
Let's start this off with why this is 3 stars and not more.
I did enjoy this novel, and found myself laughing often at the antics Alexis got herself into, but this isn't the kind of novel I would normally pick up, and it is a novel I would recommend to specific folks:
Those looking for humorous, out of this world, paranormal romance novels.
This book made me happy I read it, though often I just wanted to shake Alexis and get her to do the right, normal thing. But, that seemed to be the point of this novel: she wasn't normal, and she wouldn't do what you want her to do just because you want her to do it.
Again, I enjoyed this novel, but I don't think it is for everyone. If you are looking for something different in paranormal romance, with a vampire behaving as a vampire should, this is a great book to check out.
4.5 stars I really enjoyed this book! At first, I couldn't figure out what was going on, but it added to the story. I like being surprised. Alexis had been through so much and I don't know that I wouldn't want the same as her. Bradley is like the perfect man. I like their almost instant love. And of course their HEA! I am really looking forward to reading more in this series and by this author.
I received this books as a gift! What a lovely surprise! Vampire books can go either way ... some are great while others not so much! This one was delightful
I am so glad that I was gifted book two and three ... can't wait to read them too!
