Caught on Camera

Rate this book
Scandal meets seduction when America's golden boy falls for a woman with secrets.

Vega Zaragoza learned the hard way that sex and the spotlight don't mix. Determined to escape further scrutiny, the former model now makes her living behind the camera instead of in front of it. But when Vega gets a shot at her dream job, one that puts her back in the public eye, she has a choice to make: continue to play it safe . . . or gamble everything to go toe-to-toe—and heart-to-heart—with the city's most eligible bachelor.

JP Davenport is the golden boy of American politics, rumored to be the governor's first choice for Georgia's open senatorial seat. Charming and gorgeous, he is also fiercely private, with a string of romantic conquests a mile long. Now he wants to add Vega to their ranks. And he’ll do anything to have her. Vega should know better than to trust a man like him. But kiss by heated kiss, she discovers this man may be worth the risk.

I think I got almost through this one. Maybe I even finished it. It was totally forgettable except for certain plot elements that bugged the heck out of me. Natalie Ross was good. Caught on Camera didn't prove worthy of my time.

Rating 4.5 out of 5 stars!

How are the sex scenes?

Varied and with chocolate.
There's a lot of substantive sex and Law
details some while placing others behind closed doors.

How are the story lines?

Didn't see them coming.
The reveals play big parts in this book and they are all unexpected.

Review

"Caught on Camera" by Kim Law is a contemporary romance based in Atlanta, Georgia.

Straight from my notes to this review: Best. Opening. Line. Ever.

"It was a darn shame someone with that much
raw sex appeal was a politician."

After spending five minutes with businessman and celebrity JP Davenport, I tend to agree. He's attractive, he's charming, he's every woman's dream one-night-stand and he's pursuing heroine and news videographer Vega Zaragoza.

Vega crushes on him. Hard.

"Oh geez, she even thought his teeth were awesome."

But for reasons later revealed she has nothing to do with him.

Law takes her romance a step beyond the hero chasing his heroine. Law's heroine wants to be caught, but can't be caught because it's not in the hero's best interest.

And the kicker - it's a legitimate reason. It's not because she's harboring some puny secret and if it gets out her mother will be upset with her beauty parlor friends for gossiping underneath their hairdryers. It's because her secret can potentially harm the hero in devastating ways.

Even before Vega falls for JP she protects him, and herself. This is not commonly used in romances and I like this.

Vega's character growth is beautiful. JP has his personal growth too, but Vega turns into a stronger, more independent woman who decides that her love for the hero is not more important than her integrity. This is a message desperately missing from our romance novels and I am thrilled to read it here.

Vega's reveal is crazy good. (Our new technical term.) I love it for so many reasons and cannot tell you a single one of them because they are all spoilers. But read the book and I'll praise this reveal for an hour.

"Caught on Camera" focuses on self-respect and personal appreciation. It shows the crucial point where a person must learn the importance of loving themselves so that they can then bestow their love on others.

For the $3.99 kindle price, Caught on Camera is a steal.

Caught on Camera is Kim Law’s debut novel and yes, I’m a little late in the game. I actually started with her Sugar Springs series then Turtle Island as they released in the past. Kim Law is an auto-read author for me and since Caught in the Act releases this month; I obviously need to catch up. I will confess, I’ve read the ARC for the second installment as well and IT IS GOOD! IMO, both novels are stand-alones but I still recommend reading from the start of the series.. It just gives you a better feel for the characters.

This novel had The Kennedys/Cinderella theme to it. I loved Law’s voice here; it’s different. Compare to her Sugar Springs and Turtle Island series, which I totally love by the way; this had a different voice to it. I can’t quite put my finger on it. It may be because I connected with their screwed up family drama or the character build up was done differently. I was fascinated with the family’s role as politicians. The need to be perfect in the public’s eyes yet the truth is they are filled with betrayals, disappointments and emotionally distraught children who has to live with their parents’ mistakes. The best part of it is that despite all of that, they managed to live their own lives and find happy-ever-after.

And with all that being said, JP and Vega’s story is still a light-hearted story. It was a quick read, sweet, filled with humor and a healthy amount of sexy. If this is the type of books you like, I recommend to start here; as well as Law’s Sugar Springs series. I love her books.

I thought this was cute. It was a little bit of insta-love with that HEA but I could look past it. I loved both JP and Vega. I felt for each of them as they struggled to reconcile their pasts. I was glad that they found each other and somewhat agreed with JP that they were both so broken they were the only two that fit together.

Natalie Ross narrated this and it was hard for me to stop thinking about the Fever series while she did. I think that's the downside of listening on audio sometimes you know a narrator by voice and their past works stick in your head. It didn't detract one bit from this story though, but I just had to put it out there.

Sometimes you want to get away from all the craziness and escape into a world where the people are gorgeous and the girl always gets the man. That is my reason for reading romance novels usually. Lucky for me Caught On Camera was the quinessential romance novel and more. Each time I placed my eyes on the book I was instantly drawn into the world of Vera Zaragoza and JP Davenport and their attempts at refusing love until it hits them smack dab in the face.

Vera is a woman who does not want to standout so does everything she can to be plain. She's hoping to hide in plain sight from her past as well as the handsome businessman, rumored to be Senator, JP Davenport. The problem is, JP can't help but to notice her even under her frumpy attire and dowdy appearance. Neither of them are interested in any long term relationships but can't escape the attraction they have for each other. Let the craziness begin. Her attempt to be invisible does not bode well with his high profile life in the public eye.

I really enjoyed reading this book because of the depth of the characters. I wanted JP to be the good man he appeared to be under the visage of a playboy. I rooted for Vera to overcome what was holding her back. Kim Law does a great job at making believable characters that speak to the heart of any hopeless romantic. In conclusion, I think anyone who loves a good, fun, romantic read would enjoy this book.

Loved it from the first page to the last. Vega is the kind of strong heroine I long for in a romance novel, even if she doesn't necessarily start the story that way. The growth she undergoes as the story plays out is a thing of beauty. I also love JP. He doesn't take no for an answer, but he's not a domineering jerk either. He's a confident man with a hint of insecurity, who's man enough to make himself vulnerable and pursue what he wants with more than force. There are no simple misunderstandings in this novel. There are secrets and lies and high, realistic stakes. There's also tension, humor, and a whole lot of heart. The characters as real, even the sideline characters I can't help but want more of. I'm definitely looking forward to the next installment in the series.

Kim Law’s debut novel, CAUGHT ON CAMERA, caught my attention and never let go! The heroine is a woman hiding from her past who needs something from the hero to secure her future. The man has left a trail of broken hearts in his wake, so she fights to keep the spark of mutual attraction between them from turning into a full out blaze. But she can’t deny her attraction to the heat. This is a fun, sexy, fast-paced read I really enjoyed!

My Musings

Another great read by Ms. Law! She has become one of my auto-buy authors. Her writing always touches my heart because her stories are emotionally charged with characters I fall in love with. Caught on Camera does this so well. I could feel the anguish Vega felt about herself because of her past. She was more concerned over what her past could do to J.P.'s career than gaining her happy ending. Her willingness to put him first at great personal heartache, brought tears to my eyes.

If you enjoy a story that will have you rooting for a happy ending for the hero and heroine, then this is a book you must read. I can't wait to read the next one in this series. Happy reading!

He's a politician, a Davenport.. and falls for her first! She wants an interview, and he just wants to ask her out.

The back and forth was fun... some secrets get displaced. I enjoyed that everyone wants her, and he's crazy about her. She truly fights him off and rejects him.

Caught on Camera is author Kim Law's debut novel. She uses the tried and true romance plot line of the wealthy golden boy who wants to rescue his working girl love. Law keeps it fresh and new making it ring true in this Cinderella-esque story. Is JP Davenport really the perfect man his public persona paints him to be? And Vega Zaragoza has had a taste of wealth and fame and isn't so easily charmed by JP's money.

JP Davenport has spent his life being groomed to follow in his father's footsteps in a life of politics. He is Georgia's golden boy, accustomed to women swooning at his feet and generally getting what he wants. Only, he isn't so sure he knows what he wants out of life. Politics was his parents' life, and now that his dad is gone, JP's mom is determined to see her favorite son step into the role.

Vega Zaragoza seems content with her role behind the camera as a photo journalist. So content that she protests a little too much whenever anyone suggests that she would be great in a role in front of the camera. She's done her time in the spotlight as a former supermodel and Vega found that sometimes the spotlight can burn.

Vega and JP cross paths when she is sent to film a celebrity golf tournament in which JP is playing. He promptly turns on the charm and is surprised when Vega declines to fall into his arms like so many other women have done. She's been involved with a politician before and has no desire to go back down that road. But an exclusive interview with the reclusive JP Davenport could be the big break her career needs. JP asks Vega on a date in hopes of wooing her into his arms and his bed. Vega agrees in hopes of wooing JP in front of her camera.

What they don't know is that they are each hiding secrets. Vega was once the star player in a political scandal and she will do anything to keep her past in the past. As her feelings for JP grow, she is equally determined not to let her past hurt his future. JP is hiding behind a facade of perfection and is desperate not to ruin his image as his mother's perfect son. A learning disability doesn't fit with the image of the glamorous playboy and brilliant politician that he has been groomed to be.

Can Vega and JP be honest with themselves, each other and the public? Can their relationship survive the truth? Caught on Camera is lovely romance and well worth the read to find out if JP and Vega have the strength to be honest with each other and find love.

This debut novel by Kim Law has it all! I give it 4 ½ to 5 stars! There is heat, romance, and tons of secrets that keep you guessing! Can love or lust be found by bidding on a steamy hero at a charity bachelor auction? You will have to read the book to find out!

I know I would love to go out on a date with JP Davenport; he is a sweet, romantic hero that will do anything for the woman he loves. So different from what we think of politicians to be or the playboy he is known to be by the community.

While the heroine, Vega is a spitfire by nature, who lost some of her fire in her haunted past. Can JP help heal her wounds while allowing her to heal ones he didn't know he had?

This book was a wild ride, because it made me feel a great number of emotions for the couple. There was fear, worry, love, and of course lust! I can't wait to read the next installment by this new and upcoming author!

I absolutely enjoyed this book! It was recommended to me through email from Amazon! JP Davenport is the "JFK Jr" of Atlanta who falls hard for former model Vega Zaragoza! They both have secrets in their past that could come back to haunt them! Vega is determined to keep their relationship professional but JP's beauty and how he melts her heart with just a glance makes it difficult! With the Governor of Atlanta wanting JP to take the vacant Senatorial seat that was recently held by his cousin who died in a plane crash recently, Vega is worried her past will destroy JP's career! She fights within herself to not give in to the temptation but she can only hold out for so long ;)

This book is a great read & I DEF recommend it!! : D

This book is a bit longer an could be cut back ..it's still a thumbs up

Vega, is a honest, realistic an strong character. She carries her shameful secret an does her best to

A. Stay out of the public eye both solo but importantly not with JP

B. Tries to keep it light/ her distance with JP

JP on the other hand is a complexity of the mask he wears, cold, private an indifferent.
Conflicting turmoil for what is expected of him / what he has been groomed for & figuring out would HE would want an why.

The overall plot well that is predictable, let me assure you, their are MANY little sub plots that are very neatly tied up at the end....

You know those month hung open, deer in the headlight, HUH? ,,,,yup !

Good book, solid characters

Kim Law's debut novel is sparkling contemporary romance to brighten a winter's day. The heroine, Vega, has a definite feisty side and has good reasons for not wanting to succumb to her attraction to the handsome would-be politician, JP. He has his secrets too plus a family worthy of any soap opera! If you're looking for a fun, sensual read with a satisfying HEA look no further.

Quick Info
Standalone/Cliffhanger?: Standalone but it follows on
Part of a Series?: Yes
POV: Two characters
----------------------------------
Meeting the Characters
Vega - A pretty woman who has a really bad past so is hiding her beautiful face in plain drab clothes
JP - A rich boy from a famous family with a mummy complex.
----------------------------------
What happens?
Vega is a videographer or cameraman who is hiding behind the camera. She is at risk of loosing her job because she won't be infront of the camera because of her past. Her way of saving herself from loosing what she loves doing currently is to get a one on one interview with JP Davenport who happens to be a very rich businessman groomed to go into politics and become the next governor of I think Atlanta but that is American politics and that confuses me so I could be wrong...
JP is a very private person despite being in the public eye already. He is hiding a secret like Vega but his to me is less scandalous or really that big.
Final thoughts
I liked the romance it was pretty good the tension was built for them falling for each other and falling into bed with each other. I didn't feel like it was resolved properly with his mother. I put this book off for ages, I really fancied it when I read the description and then I kept looking at it just thinking no not in the mood but decided to read this for a challenge and it was a good read!
Would I read again?: Yes actually
Would I read this author again?: Yes.

Kim Law is a new author I have discovered through Amazon unlimited.. I do read every chance I get and rarely write a review but really felt I needed to as I did enjoy the book so much and couldn't put it down til finished.

I really enjoyed this book and loved the chemistry between the characters and I felt I really got to the core of who they are and I became invested in Vega and JP.

At times I was frustrated with them, but that just kept me reading to see where they would go next. I would have loved more in depth detailed love /sex scenes (my personal preference when reading)

Only complaint was I would have loved to have read more about them after the fact along with the above (hahaha love detailed love scenes 🙈) Again overall extremely enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to read more from Kim Law

Vega Zaragoza is a former model and was pushed out of the business by a scandal. Now she makes her living behind the camera and she refuses to ever being in front of the camera again and avoids attention at all cost. Her company is downsizing and her job is on the line but if she can get an interview with JP Davenport then her shot at her dream job could come true.

JP Davenport is Atlanta’s most eligible bachelor, he comes from one of America’s most prominent families and it is speculated that he will carry on in his father's footsteps. JP is used to getting what he wants when he wants it and that's especially true with women. But Vega doesn't drop at his feet and turns down his date offer.

There is just something about Vega that JP can't resist and if he should learn of the secrets she hides, if they were exposed then both of their careers would be over. Neither is willing to back off from the attraction they feel, Vega wonders if the relationship is a mistake. Will being together in the public eye lead them down a path of destruction or lead them to the freedom of loving each other openly?

Ok

So this was in ok read for me. I just couldn't get over Vegas character. I understand going through a rough time but she took so long finding the courage to face her past that it was just annoying. It was clearly obvious where her happiness was and she just insisted on standing in her own way. Glad the JP had the sense to be persistent and ocercame his fears as well. It was.about time he stood up to his mother, because that was another issue that was annoying. He knew good and well he didn't want to run for office. Honestly the book just dragged on a few too many times for me. Still enjoyed the story though.

Excellent book

I've been meaning to read this book for years but I have a Kobo and it was never offered so I finally broke down and bought through Kindle I'm so glad I did I totally enjoyed this book couldn't put down Reddit in 3 days The Love Story between JP and Vega is awesome and the fact that they have to overcome fears of feeling inadequate even though they're beautiful people seem very real to me I would highly recommend this book in fact I'm going to go out and buy the sequel to the Davenport

JP Davenport’s life is been written for him. Following his father’s steps and become a politician. Even if it has never been his dream. But, when an intriguing and beautiful photojournalist approach him for an interview, little does he knows that his life will change forever. Vega has her own secrets and become involved with JP is bad news for her but even worse for him. Fighting their attraction it’s almost impossible but secrets from the past, lies, threatens to destroy them both. The audiobook with amazing Matt Hicks’s voice make a great story even better.

incredibly well done book one! five awesome stars! 😍

I enjoyed reading this first installment of this series and learning about JP’s learning disability and his complicated relationship with his mother, I can definitely relate to those things in this book. I also liked the grumpy/sunshine trope in the beginning and then the sexual tension. I’m 54 years old but I still remember the passion there is in the beginning of a relationship and reading about it is quite fun lol I’m invested in these characters and I’m looking forward to book two!

Full Review posted at A Book Lovin' Mama's Blog

When I want to read Contemporary Romance, I always go to some of my fave go-to authors, which in this case is Kim Law. I’ve had Caught on Camera on my TBR for a while. Kim Law announced she was working on the third book in the series; I jumped at my chance to read/listen to the first book. I’m glad I did because I fell hard for the MMC in Caught on Camera.

I loved reading and listening to the first book in the Davenport series. I had to listen to it when I couldn’t read it because this Book Lovin’ Mama had to run errands or do some cleaning around the house. Thank goodness for noise-canceling headphones. The narrator Matt Hicks did a fantastic job. I’m usually picky with my narrators, but I liked Matt Hicks. He made the characters and the story come to life.

Overall, the first book in the Davenport series receives four stars, and I can’t wait to dive into the second book.

Standalone or Part of Series: It’s part of the Davenports series, but each follows new characters, so they could be read as standalone. (You would miss out on couples if you read out of order, though.)

HEA: Yes.

Would I recommend this book? Yes. I recommend this book to Contemporary Romance readers.

Eh. This book was good, but I hate the misogyny and patriarchy that are embedded into this book. However, that’s not really on the author, as this was writing in 2012.

I hate that Vega had to dress down and wear less makeup to feel “less pretty” idk. It rubbed me the wrong way.

Aside from all of that, the love story was cheesy and cute. I’ll be reading the rest of this series and hope they don’t surround around more of the patriarchy tone.

This is the first of this author's books I have read. As far as Rom-Com genre books are concerned, I thought this one was much better than most of the others I've read. Hence, this was not the bodice ripper type and the author allows the characters to explain themselves. She does not have the characters "disappear" without revealing their secrets, that can keep the characters apart.

I recommend this book!
