Since the late 1800s, there have been numerous documented reports of human encounters with extraterrestrial beings. In this unique and comprehensive volume - the first field guide ever devoted to extraterrestrials reported in UFO incidents - science writer Patrick Huyghe offers a fascinating overview of alien types witnessed throughout the past century. Each event is described in detail, based on eyewitness accounts, and is accompanied by a carefully rendered likeness of the lifeform encountered. With its detailed classification of alien types, The Field Guide to Extraterrestrials is essential reading for anyone who wants to know who "they" are.
The book has 50 black and white drawings of individual aliens. With a few pages having more then one drawing,
The book starts by saying that it will have aliens that came from a spaceship or seen at the same moment of a spaceship. The next part of the book is divided into four parts: Humanoid (26), Animalian (13), Robotic (7), and Exotic (4). At the end there is information about why some people believe they are so many types of aliens, then it talks mostly about the grays. And how some researchers are focusing more on the grays and ignoring the other aliens.
The main part of the book is formulated in this way. On the left side there is: Class, type, variant, distinguishing characteristic, descriptive incident, date, location, witness, below is the account which may or may not lap over to the right side, under the account is the source. On the right side is a drawing or sometimes drawings of the being, on the right side of the drawing is the ruler or size of the alien.
There are different sizes of aliens in the book from 3in high to 20ft. There seem to be more 3 foot tall aliens (nine times) then any other size. With 6 feet coming in second, then 5 feet in third. On page 52 there is 10 foot tall alien with three eyes and a UMMO symbol, some think this is hoax. On a couple of accounts there is more then one type of alien that the witness has saw at the same place and time.
In the future I would like to see more field guides of aliens. I’ am sure there is a lot more aliens out there to draw.
The case summaries are very superficial, but can at least be used as reference points for further research of these bizarre cases on the internet. Do not expect any kind of analysis or critique of the individual lifeforms described in these cases.
Hopefully nobody should ever need to use this book as an actual field guide... But it is excellent. Some of the reported incidents can be a little lacking on info, but otherwise most fascinating, great illustrations also.
Highly recommended for those interested in Aliens and UFOs.
