Hellbourne #4

Back to Hell

Rate this book
Even the devil needs a little help sometimes, but for Luc, going back to hell to make things right could end up breaking him...

Luc’s life is finally starting to settle down. His wolf shifter lover is back in his bed and his father is no longer ruling hell...or Luc's life.

Unfortunately, his happiness is only an illusion. Nikko, his vampire soul mate, is starving to death, Luc's psychotic brother is taking over hell, and the balance of good and evil all depends on Luc to set things straight.

The archangel Michael tells Luc he needs to go back to hell to correct the problems he caused, but Luc refuses. However, some people still think Luc is a contender to be the demon lord. When his brother kidnaps Bran, Luc has to show the underworld why you don’t mess with the devil’s son.

Amber Kell has made a career out of daydreaming. It has been a lifelong habit she practices diligently as shown by her complete lack of focus on anything not related to her fantasy world building.

When she told her husband what she wanted to do with her life he told her to go have fun.

During those seconds she isn't writing she remembers she has children who humor her with games of 'what if' and let her drag them to foreign lands to gather inspiration. Her youngest confided in her that he wants to write because he longs for a website and an author name—two things apparently necessary to be a proper writer.

Despite her husband's insistence she doesn't drink enough to be a true literary genius she continues to spin stories of people falling happily in love and staying that way.

She is thwarted during the day by a traffic jam of cats on the stairway and a puppy who insists on walks, but she bravely perseveres..

She also writes under the name Mikela Q. Chase

So many editorial issues, mixed names, spelling mistakes, grammar errors...the works. Or lack thereof. But I suffered through it all to reach the end. I think I deserve a cookie. I still didn't particularly like the way Bran and Nikko tried to rule Luc's life but, then again, that was Luc's fault because he let them. He never stood up for himself with them. It was kind of ridiculous considering his power. Anyway I'm happy to have read this 'cause I enjoy knowing the end of stories even when they're not perfect and Luc turning angel sure as hell wasn't perfect. It came out of the blue and with no excuse whatsoever. WTH? When he finally managed to get out of his father's thumb..you get him under Michael's. Nice.

I also found it slightly quirky to see an excerpt from the first novel in the end of this book. Kind of redundant, no?

the last sex seen was so freaking hot!!!
"Bran wrapped a possessive arm around Luc. When Nikko snuggled to join them, Bran tensed up but didn’t growl. Baby steps, Luc had to remind himself. One tiny step at a time.
Eventually, maybe they could live together as a family.
A freakish, dysfunctional family, but a family all the same."

Nothing new or exciting, really. The writing style remains the same and there were no surprises (for me, at least). The blurb pretty much explains the entire novella.

If you've read 1-3 of the series, this wraps it up nicely for the 3 MC's.....and you do need to have read 1-3 first.
