The world of literature has seen many great villains – Iago from Othello, Grendel from Beowulf, Stefano DiMera from Days of Our Lives – and in Cabochon, Mary Cote introduces us to Aubrey Sterling, a man so vile he keeps women locked and drugged up to use as prostitutes and plans to murder one of his young sons because his autism is an embarrassment.

Even Sterling’s wife Andi was one of the former, and when she decides that her husband must be stopped, he has her beaten, shot and left for dead in Rainbow Lake. At least, he thinks she’s dead. Aubrey Sterling’s villainy is so fantastic that only the corporation of heroes Cote introduces us to next could possibly match him. Andi is rescued by the men of Cabochon, who nurse her to health, bring her children to her and help her in her plan to destroy her husband.

In the juxtaposition between the wonderful place that is Cabochon and the sickness and treachery that occurs on board Aubrey’s yacht The Brotherly Love, Cote creates a kind of Heaven and Hell, making Cabochon an epic good vs. evil story. The reader can hardly wait until the two meet, and, more importantly, when Aubrey will learn that his wife still lives.

Oh, and by the way, will there be romance between the beautiful and recovering Andi and one of these kind and capable men of Cabochon, a couple of which just happen to be navy SEALS?

I’m left asking many, many questions about Cabochon. Namely how soon can I get my dainty hands on Book Two? Also, is someone in Hollywood making Cabochon, Part 1: The Movie? They should, and who will play Andi? Aubrey? The no-doubt handsome Brad and Ryan?

Long story short, I’m now obsessed with Cabochon being made into a movie, and you will be too. Do yourself a favor go over to http://www.writersamuseme.com/ and read Cabochon, then come back here and we’ll discuss casting for the film. I won’t give away my choices except to say that Joseph Mascolo (AKA Stefano DiMera on Day of Our Lives) might be wonderful as Aubrey Sterling. He’s 83 now, so hurry up, Hollywood! Tick tock!

Mary has gone over the top with this Adventure! She had me from page 1 locking me in hook, line and sinker! Page after page I was part of Cabochon; with Andi aboard the Brotherly Love. A prisoner of her husband and his dark secrets forces Andi to take matters into her own hands. After being discovered, her husband-Aubrey Sterling and his thugs, leave Andi for dead. Enter the hero's! Little by little learning who, what & how Andi was brought to her current state became top priority for the men of Cabochon. Revenge became their next priority.

As you follow Andi's recovery and journey that follows with her new found family, you find yourself living every painful memory, crying with her, wanting Cabochon to take their revenge on her behalf in the most deserving way. This book is one of my personal favorites from Mary Cote and can't wait for her second in this series to be released! This is one Adventure you will definitely want to take!

This is a First Reads Giveaway.

Cabochon was a fun, fast-paced read; a thriller about a woman who needs to escape her abusive husband and bring down his drug and prostitution crimes. Helping her is the group of men from Cabochon - a mining and environmental company; they had been scoping out a potential site when they witnessed the attempted murder of Andi at the hands of her husband. They rescued her and nursed her back to health, all the while helping her plot against her husband, and find and bring back her 2 boys. The plot is dialogue-driven, making it feel like an easy transition to screenplay; it would certainly make for a fun action thriller, what with all the yachts, helicopters, houses blowing up, and a big beautiful mansion on its own private island with buff Navy SEALS roaming the place. With a second book on its way, this has the makings of an interesting series. I would have liked to see more story and less dialogue, and I also found the chapter titles to be out of place and unnecessary. Character development was good, and can see how their stories and backgrounds will continue to be fleshed out in future installments.

This book had me sitting on the edge of my seat from the very beginning and didn't stop until the end. More than once I turned off my light to go to bed, only to turn it back on to read "just one more chapter". I find it impossible to do a review justice - I loved everything about this book. The main character, Andi, was amazing and you wanted to give big 'ol smooches to all the men helping her. The camaraderie among them was...well.. stuff great books are made of! There's no other way I can explain it. I am thrilled to see it is a series. I can't wait for the next one!
