Mitsuru Adachi (あだち充 in Japanese) is a Japanese manga artist. After graduating from Gunma Prefectural Maebashi Commercial High School in 1969, Adachi worked as an assistant for Isami Ishii. He made his manga debut in 1970 with Kieta Bakuon, based on a manga originally created by Satoru Ozawa. Kieta was published in Deluxe Shōnen Sunday (a manga magazine published by Shogakukan).
Adachi is well known for romantic comedy and sports manga (especially baseball) such as Touch, H2, Slow Step, and Miyuki. He has been described as a writer of "delightful dialogue", a genius at portraying everyday life, "the greatest pure storyteller", and "a master manga artist". He is one of the few manga artists to write for shōnen, shōjo, and seinen manga magazines, and be popular in all three.
His works have been carried in manga magazines such as Weekly Shōnen Sunday, Ciao, Shōjo Comic, Big Comic, and Petit Comic, and most of his works are published through Shogakukan and Gakken. He was one of the flagship authors in the new Monthly Shōnen Sunday magazine which began publication in June 2009. Only two short story collections, Short Program and Short Program 2 (both through Viz Media), have been released in North America, though Viz is scheduled to begin publishing Cross Game in October 2010.
He modeled the spelling of あだち (rather than 安達) for his family name after the example of his older brother, manga artist Tsutomu Adachi. In addition, it has been suggested that the accurate portrayal of sibling rivalry in Touch may come from Adachi's experiences while growing up with his older brother. Adachi did the character designs for the OVA anime series Nozomi Witches, so he is sometimes incorrectly given credit for creating the original series.
World: The art is fantastic with it’s simple characters and solid framing, it knows when to linger on expressions and really sets the tone well for the series. The world building is basic, but there is depth there. We don’t get any info dumps but we are seeing more and more of the baseball world through the eyes of the characters, well done.
Story: The story moves along well, it’s got romance, lingering feelings an some fun comedy. The slow build of heading into high school is good and we can see all the pieces introduced here moving into place to be part of the team. Hamada is a new addition and his stuff is very classic Adachi, the delinquent that finds his purpose on the field. I am telling what happens next but if you read enough of Adachi’s book you know this is going to happen.
Characters: Hamada is a typical Adachi character and he fits into the story well. You can tell that the author is building his team. The emotions we get here and the development in the relationships between the brothers and Minami is done well and light and charming.
Noble sacrifice lagi.
As usual, nostalgia grips me when I read a book by Adachi. So far it doesn't focus much on sports, more on the relationships between the characters. All their interactions are very subtle, so much gets said in the move of a hand or the turn of a neck. The addition of Hamada, the kind-hearted deliquent, creates a good new dynamic and tons of funny moments with Tetsuya. 4.5 stars
While certain dialogues exhibit emotional depth and impactful scenes, the author essentially lacks proficient skills in resolving climax conflicts. These high-tension moments often conclude with abrupt resolutions, such as character deaths, departures, or changes in actions without clear reasons.
"TOUCH" a masterpiece from Mitsuru Adachi Follow a story about a pair of twin - the genius pitcher Kazuya and good-for-nothing Tatsuya. Growing up, they realize their feeling for next-door girl, and their childhood friend, Minami. There's always more than romance in Adachi's manga. Find friendship, brothers bound, and humour while bathed in sweat and tears.
