Ten Reasons Not to Date a Cop

Rate this book

Love turns up in all the wrong places…at just the right time.

Growing up a police chief’s daughter, Kaylee Stephens saw firsthand how arrogant cop attitudes affect a marriage. Not for her, no sir. But when a priceless, pre-Columbian statue comes up missing, the day-school teacher finds herself in the middle of a police investigation. And face-to-face with sexy Detective Lucas Blackfox, her brothers’ old high school chum.

She had nothing to do with the crime, despite the fact that she—up until very recently—was engaged to the number one suspect. Once that’s cleared up, she plans to return to her peaceful, cop-less life.

Luc can’t seem to keep Kaylee out of his thoughts, and it’s not just because every time he and his partner turn over a new stone in the case, Kaylee shows up. She’s grown from the pig-tailed tagalong he once knew to a woman he’d like to know better.

His quest to convince her he’s not just a typical cop is right on track toward making her a permanent fixture in his arms...until the missing statue’s legendary curse drops an emotional bomb that could destroy everything.

This book contains steamy love scenes between a cop and a woman who refuses to date men in uniform. Clear your schedule, readers, you’re gonna want to get out the cuffs after this one.

This was a fun little short. The heroine had a few hang ups that got old after a while, but there were quite a few funny situations (like when the hero's dog ate his handcuff key!) that had me giggling. Pick this one up if you're in the mood for fun!

The blurb had me really sold on this story. I mean, what's not to like, right? A woman that has a list of guys/professions which she's never gonna date and the hot guy that belongs to one such professions. Throw in a stolen statue and it should be great, right?
Oh, boy, was it wrong! I mean, I get it. She had the list and she kept bringing it up, bit after a while, it just got boring. And instead of actually talking to her mom about what she perceives to be 'wrong' on her mom's marriage, she goes on and on and on...and then her dad calls, says her mom was always so, even before their marriage and even then she chokes. And then there's the whole thing towards the end where her friend states that there's a difference between a detective and a patrol cop and the next thing you know.... really? That's all it took? -_-
Do I even need to talk about the stolen statue? It was so predictable ......and at the end there, when Jeff shows for the auction, it would have been better off without. It lost me for a moment.
Where there funny parts? Yes, some. I had a few laughs. Unfortunately, the few laughs did not improve my opinion about thins book. It just had one too many issues.

I have been in the mode of trying new-to-me authors. After reading the blurb for Ten Reasons Not to Date a Cop by Amie Louellen, I was ready to sink my teeth in. It’s a sweet romance that, for the most part, kept my attention and has an interesting plot.

Luc is a sexy, smoldering detective that you can’t help but fall in love with. Kaylee is a serial fiancé who I had a hard time connecting with. The premise revolves around Kaylee’s refusal to date cops. Of course there’s also a missing artifact, possible mafia-like interference, and an ex that won’t leave her alone.

While I enjoyed the plot and most of the characters, I had a hard time believing in the attraction between Luc and Kaylee. Luc is really great. I found Kaylee immature and selfish. I often thought: why would he put up with her except to prove her wrong about dating cops? My favorite characters grow to be better people by the end of a book. Although we get our happily-ever-after, I didn’t feel much of that growth from Kaylee.

However, Ten Reasons Not to Date a Cop is a fun read. There are some very funny moments that had me laughing.

When I first saw the cover of this book I knew it would be a fun, flirty, light read. I was not disappointed.
Kaylee Stephens is caught up in one of Luc Blackfox’s investigations. When he is thrown off the case he decides to make a play for Kaylee, but she refuses because she does not date cops.

I chuckled, not just smiled, throughout the book. The characters are well written and engaging. I rolled my eyes at Kaylee several times during because she seemed too stubborn. Luc was one of those never give up kind of guys, and that was a good thing for Kaylee, well it was good for him too. He was hot with his dark skin, dark hair and handcuffs. I think the romantic elements were one of the best parts of the book, it wasn’t just about sex, there was actual wooing involved.

I have two objections to the book. The first is that I was expecting to read about ten reasons not to date a cop, it may just be me, but I didn’t find ten. The second was that the ending seemed a little rushed. In my opinion Kaylee gave in too easily. Otherwise I really enjoyed the book and look forward to reading other works from Amie Louellen.

This was a fun, easy read, book. It's somewhere between 4 and 4.5 stars. An epilogue would have kicked it up to a 5 start book. Although good, it was an implied happily-ever-after ending, especially given Kaylee's prior history. I wanted a for sure happily-ever-after ending which would have been so easily accomplished with a few additional pages.

All-in-all a good book. It was a romance with a story attached, rather than a story with a romance attached. Just the way I like a romance book. Although predictable, the storyline was also good.

I really, really liked Luc. So sweet. So caring. So persistent. And he even had a dog! Kalyee, on the other hand, had issues. She and Luc were good together.

Aside: this was a general market book. I would give it a PG13 rating.

This romance had me after the first few paragraphs. How many of us have been stopped by the police? I know I have--more than once. Even so, I never had a detective like Luc saunter up to me, asking for my driver's license. I love it when the characters are so well-crafted, they reach out and grab me by the throat--and the heart. This was an excellent read. The additon of two nosy co-workers, one bossy family and a neurotic dog rounded out the cast, lending an endearing quirky quality to the story. Loved it, simply loved it.

I loved this book. The characters were developed in such a way that you just wanted to keep reading to see what they were going to get into next. The book was also very funny. I usually don't laugh out loud while reading, but there were many times I did. The best part of the story was the romance. Amie Louellen always does an amazing job creating the love between characters. And, the sex scenes were incredibly steamy. This is the third contemporary romance I have read by this author and I highly recommend anything she writes.

A good story that made for a quick read.

The only thing that would have made this book better is that the review (that I read) implied that dad and brothers, as cops, were extremely overprotective. In reality, they were not all that overprotective, and in reality seemed to be pushing Luc and Kaylee to get together.

Nice story. I enjoyed reading it. The ending was a little abrupt and the hero did not do enough groveling for being a jerk. The heroine was kind of a jerk too now and again, and there never seemed to be a good reason for the emotions flying around. But I still got a kick out of it.

Didn't understand the title because I read it twice and ten reasons were never listed.

it was so good, loved that it focused on Luc and Kaylee relationship rather than Luc occupation.
