Mortal women surrender to Dante’s seductions. He is a Drone, an immortal who feeds off their lifeforce energy—the chi that keeps his kind alive. When his dimension is on the edge of destruction, Dante must seek the help of one special woman.
Haley Moore is a Sha Warrior—a mortal with excess lifeforce. She’s always been drawn to Dante. When they meet again he thinks luck is on his side—his quota of chi energy would be obtained after one scorching scene with this mortal. The problem is that he is overwhelmingly attracted to her and once with this woman won’t be enough.
Haley tries to draw out the man buried deep within the demon. Their fierce, undeniable passion unravels his plans and threatens her life. But Dante is destined to leave Earth forever. He must choose whether to return to Prygos or give up his immortality and share his future with Haley.

Damned and Defiant gives Dante the life force collector anti-hero from Desert of the Damned his very much needed starring role and happily ever after. After reading his thoughts on mortals and his duties of harvesting the chi from our plane he needed to experience feelings for something he cared for and loved. With Dante getting his own book we get to learn more about him. There was so much more there than just the Drone. He also gets the hard lesson that there is more to his life than getting his much sought after revenge.
The strong aura that Haley has and her Sha Warrior status gives her an edge most don’t have. She senses things many don’t. She is in touch with her spiritual side. She also knows that there is more going on with Dante than he lets on. She recognizes the intense attraction between them and that he has to feel it too. When the opportunity arises for her to spend time with him at his ranch she jumps on the offer. Taking life by the horns or in her case the reins she puts herself in front of the man she desires and doesn’t take no for an answer.
Things get really crazy where Anartia is concerned. I’ve been so curious about what was going to happen with Tarik, the experiments, and breaking out of that prison. At the ending of Damned and Defiant it is obvious that something has to change. The alternate world is starting to fracture and it seemed that no amount of Drones could keep it stable. All I can say is I never saw it coming. The events that take place on Anartia in this book are insane. That alone makes this well worth the read.
I was pleased to see that Kathy figured out a way to put Bill in this book. His grandsons are the sexy shifters of the first two books in the Demons in Exile series. Dante and Haley are nothing to him so I figured no more Bill. I’ve never been so glad to be wrong. He is present. He is still proudly embracing his Native American heritage and beliefs. He’s offering sound advice for those in a bind with the Anartia demons.
Readers could easily enjoy this book as a stand-alone, as with each book in the series. Take my advice and just read all three. Dante and several other characters are in each of them. Sadly, the couples from the previous books have absolutely no role in the book after theirs though. I always enjoying reading a little about the previous books couples in any series I read.
This is not the first book in the series and no, I didn't read the others first. But at the beginning it says that it is part of the series but can be a stand alone. But to really enjoy you should read all of them. Since I had not read the first ones, when I started this book and was a little into it, it seemed really fast and didn't go into depth about who each person was but I eventually got it. I felt like you got to know Dante and Haley well in this book. Throughout the whole book, you get bits and pieces of their background. The only thing was that we didn't really get to see them fall for each other. She was in love with him since one of the other books (i think) and he cared for her too, then in this book they were like bam, sex and now we have to be together forever. Which meant different things for them both. We did get to see them learn to trust each other which was nice. On last thing, when they get hot and steamy, it means Hot and Steamy! LOL
Such a fantastic end to the trilogy, and yet left it open if Ms. Kulig ever decides to revisit the universe again. I was left intrigued at the end, and I love getting to see what she had told me about years ago when I first had the pleasure of meeting her in person. I definitely recommend this trilogy to any and everyone. LOVE IT!
