Welcome to Demonicon “I am Pagomaris, first aide to Ruler. I’m thrilled to have you both here. It’s my responsibility to ensure you are presentable for the parade.” Presentable? Parade? “Everyone is so excited to meet you.” She turned and clapped, a pair of young female demons dressed more simply than her scurrying forward with armloads of what appeared to be cosmetics, jewelry and the most elaborate clothing I’d ever seen. “Shall we begin?” I’m not normally a stubborn person. Okay, stop laughing. But something about the woman’s attitude ramped me up to dig in my heels so hard I expected the stone floor to split under me. “No,” I said.
Syd is home for a well-deserved Christmas break and the whole family has gathered for a happy holiday. But when Harry shows up to tell his daughters their paternal grandmother wants to meet them, Syd and Meira eagerly leave for the demon plane with a mix of excitement and nerves. Their long-delayed family reunion is really a disguise for political games that put both of their lives at risk, forcing the Hayle sisters to fight for the status they’ve been granted by the woman who Rules everything, and wants what she can’t have—Syd.
I write a lot of paranormal books for someone who is afraid of the dark. And I wonder why I have to sleep with the lights on. Sometimes life is a teenaged B horror movie and I'm the one who investigates when the scary music is playing. But the voices are calling and resistance is… Yes. I am a Star Trek geek, too. And a fan of RPG’s. With a slight coolness factor since I've been told I'm allowed to join the pops.
GO READ THIS BOOK! I know I only posted on book 9 of the HCN series, Divided Heart, last week but I was holding out until I'd finished my uni work and eventually caved in to read it. And even though I didn't love it, it was still an excellent read.
And after reading First Plane I've a million more questions and speculations about what is to come but this time I'm not sharing. I don't want to spoil First Plane for you.
We left a broken hearted Syd at the beginning of her first semester at college, with best friend Liam pinning for her to feel for him the way he feels for her. She has the vampire essence playing nice and the rest of the witch community running scared because she defeated a blood magic user. But she's got a new gang of witch friends and alls going good in her life. Even the relationship with her crazy busy high council leader mom is settling down.
Princess of the second plane?
Its Christmas and Syd has returned to Wilding Springs when her Dad crosses over from the demon plane and tells Syd and Meems he wants them to cross to the demon plane they have a whole family they dont know anything about, including their Grandmother who is the ruler of Demonicon and she would like to meet them.
Upon arriving in Demonicon Syd and Meems are assigned their ranks within the demonic world. They are now at risk of attack from other demons wanting their status and power. If they are to survive this world they most learn the ways of their demonic heritage and fast.
Syd and Meems tag teaming and kicking demon ass is a book not to be missed!
Little meems has grown up so much and really shines. Syd's typical me against the rest of the world is in full force but First Plane really demonstrates how much she's matured. She's intimidated by no one and doesn't show fear. When all of the other demons (her cousins, aunts and and uncles) are practically cowering Syd steps up and in her own special Sydlynn Hayle way says "Um, lets just get one thing straight I am not just a demon. I am also the leader of the Hayle coven, a sidhe princess and the essence of all vampires created by the maji. Do not mess with me!" You've gotta love her!
First Plane is one hell of an action packed heart pumping never stops for a moment ride. You wont have chance to figure out who's behind it all because it just doesn't stop. Its laugh out loud funny right from the off, with Sassy and Grams (love Grams) both on form!
The only down side was the end. I soo didn't see that coming. And after everything the Hayle's have been through as a family that happened. I can't spoil it for you but I cried. No one died but I cried. Again!
This was by far the best in the Hayle Coven Novels. I'm so excited for Light and Shadow!
As is usual with the Hayle Coven novels, First Plane was another sit-down-and-devour-immediately experience. Syd is looking forward to a relaxing Christmas holiday with her family and friends when the summons to meet her father's family in Demonicon comes. Are Syd and Meira in for a surprise! With her demon grandmother as ruler of all Demonicon, hundreds of extremely nasty, jealous demon family members and a status that she has to defend and did not want in the first place, this visit turns out to be a nightmare. Add to that two half human/half demon kids who are being used as pawns in a political struggle, and Syd is in for a dangerous, scary experience.
In this book Syd's character shows all the growth it had been going through in the previous few books. She is far more self-confident, and her snarky, smart-mouthed personality is firmly in place. When she, Meira and Sassafras seem to be trapped on Demonicon for an indefinite period, she takes it with remarkable stoicism and, boy, does she kick butt in fights! Sassafras - silver Persian demon cat extraordinaire - who knows the demon setup, is of invaluable help with his advice and interference at crucial points in the story. He also serves as fighting coach for the two girls, as well as a shoulder to cry on when things look grim.
I was thoroughly impressed with the way Patti Larsen described Demonicon. No blazing hell fires or some dreary world, but rather a place with colorful cities, beautiful natural scenery and some really unique, cool transport. It even has several suns and moons and nobody had to get in a spaceship to get there. The down side of this realm however; fighting. Fights for status happen all the time. Political intrigue is a permanent under-current, and rioting and rebellion are almost everyday occurrences.
First Plane is full of excitement and suspense, some absolutely hilarious moments and a few incidents where I definitely had to get the Kleenex out. With the author's marvelous ability to create a brand new idea for every book, I can promise you a very enjoyable, rewarding read with never a dull moment. A five-star rating is really too low for this book and its gifted author and I wish I was allowed to give it more. Thumbs up to First Plane and Patti Larsen! (Ellen Fritz)
Oh, how I love my Sydlynn Hale! I stumbled across The Hayle Coven series by accident and I am so glad I did. This is one of my favorite book series! Usually an author loses a little mojo when they near ten books, but not Patti Larsen. Each book in this series in wonderful, and number ten is no exception.
First Plane definitely has its own flare. It is unlike the others in that not only do we finally see Syd begin to grow into herself, but we learn more about Demonicon and her demon family. I’ll be honest, I’ve been waiting patiently for her to step up and be the strong, confident woman we all know she is. Even better, Meira finally gets some action! I’m so excited about this and can’t wait to see more of her.
If you’re reading this review, more than likely you are already a Hayle Coven fan, so I won’t give away any spoilers. It’s safe to say Syd and Meira both learn some valuable lessons and we come away with some intriguing new information about the Hayle sisters. Where will it lead? I have no idea, but I can’t wait to find out!
what can I say, I love Sydlynn, her combination of snarky humour and the ability to get herself into situations where even angels would fear to tread so it is lucky that she is part demon, witch, Sidhe princess and vampire. she will need all the help she can get to survive a visit to her paternal grandmother. Nothing like a run of the mill get together over the holidays to visit family even if said family lives on the demon plane and is the ruler of Demonicon. Syd makes a memorable first impression, one of her specialties really and will do whatever it takes to make sure her family is protected even if it is from blood relatives. Plenty of action and never a dull moment makes this series a must read, entertainment at its best.
I have been reading the Hayle Coven Novels/series and I have to say I am totally addicted...BUT this is the first in the series that actually brought tears to my eyes, not just sad feelings but real genuine tears. I was thrilled and excited about this book's change of scenery and was on the edge of my seat the entire time...every break I could get at work, I was reading, I mean in the bathroom, etc.!
I really believe that you will enjoy this book and have a great time experiencing Syd and Meira's changes in their lives and the new challenges that they are forced to face!
In the words of Syd..."Oh.My.Swearword." What a freakin ride! Each book better than the last. The story line and characters always making me beg for more. Highly recommended! If you haven't read any of the Hayle Coven novels get to it!!! NOW! Thank you Patty for always giving me an escape from life's daily grind! I have to either read slower or the books need to be longer ;)
I can't believe that book ten is as good as book one. But it is, and perhaps even better. In this installment, we learn more about Syd's demon heritage and Demonicon--finally. Excellent world building and character development make this series continue to be a pleasure to read.
Oh. My. Swearword. I'm crying yet again. Poor Miriam and Harry. This book wrecked me. Literally wrecked me. Happy to see Syd is still kicking butt but oh the aftermath. Tragic. Yet so powerful.
I started with the Hayle Coven books and now I'm working through the rest of the ones set in the same world... These are just as good as the other ones.
