Fyre Trilogy #1

The Outbreak

Rate this book
Lily Hamilton has only one thing on her survival. Unexpectedly, her world turns upside down and fills itself with the kind of monsters from a horror flick. She's doing just fine on her own, but four people she believed to be dead suddenly turn up on her doorstep.

For a while, things seem to be almost-normal. But when Lily is uprooted from everything she's ever known, she has to rely on the skills her dad taught her when she was a kid.

But has everything been one horrible lie?

Tayler Wright grew up reading books, writing stories, and racing dirt bikes, all of which she still does today. When she isn't doing those things, she's spending time with friends and family and going to college.
"The Outbreak" is her first completed novel.

I don't like zombie dystopia much. But this one had more human and fresh take without the typical tropes.

I've seen a few zombie films and I enjoy The Walking Dead TV series, but I never considered myself a "zombie fan." At least I wasn't, until I read Tayler Wright's The Outbreak.

Don't expect any social commentary or overly-sentimental end-of-the-world romance. What you get is a wall-to-wall slaughterfest. Every page is practically soaked in blood and brains. The human element is there, of course, though I wish it had been a bit more prominent. Lily Hamilton, the lead character, launches into Rambo-ette mode a bit too quickly, and we rarely get the feeling that she's ever in real danger. I would have hoped for a bit more desperation, confusion, and panic on her part, at least in the beginning.

Still, as it stands, The Outbreak is a bloody good time that zips along with hardly a moment to catch its breath. There are still plenty of questions left unanswered, and hopefully we won't have to wait too long until the next book comes out, The Quarantine. I just might chew my leg off with impatience.

I have to admit I was a bit leery of this book upon receiving it. I was curious as to how the story of a zombie apocalypse could be told in under 200 pages. However, once I began Tayler Wright's, The Outbreak, I could not stop. I was intrigued by the simplicity and ease of Wright's writing and the page turning way she went into this story. By skipping all of the usual build up, Wright jumped right into the action.
My only criticism would be the lack of a background story for some of the main characters. There was a brief glimpse into the character's past, but some more background would have made the entire book a bit more entertaining. Some explanations for why the main character seemed more than prepared and a reason for her excellent marksmanship would have been very useful for the reader.
The ending was fantastic and is not the usual ending you expect from this genre. It was a great twist that you will definitely not see coming. I can not wait to continue this trilogy and see how the characters develop after that surprise ending.

This book started off good enough, noticed a few incorrect use of words or misspellings, but nothing crazy. Characters were easy enough to like, but not well developed. I guess, what I can say is, nothing impressed me. No real big turn in events, or obstacle...Everything came easy (someone mentioned like everyone was a perfect shot, that's a good example) and then when something big is revealed the book just ends. I think it's a good start to a novel, but just that a start, it's not a whole complete novel...could have taken it much further, which I see it is a series, but literally the book for me just ended, not ended at a closing point or on a cliff hanger, just builds up never quite gets there and end. Not bad mouthing, just being honest.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This was a nice and quick read and I completed it in a few hours. As far as the zombie genre goes it ticks all the right boxes and was set up well and the characters were interesting. The author did put her own twist on the story and this helps separate it from other zombie books I have read and made it bit different to the run of the mill zombie apocalypse tale. Overall this is an enjoyable book and is worth a read if you are looking to lose yourself in a zombie tale for a couple of hours.

This is the author's first book and it was really good.

Lily Hamilton is in a zombie apocalypse. This book went nearly straight into the action with hardly any build up which is refreshing also it's a shorter book and a nice page turner leaving you wanting more. Then are a few characters in their but mainly Lily is the only character for a few. I'm glad Macy was there and the twist at the end was awesome.

A zombie tale with a twist, this one will stick with me for a while. The characters were easy to like and follow. The pace of the book was good. I even found myself re-reading parts of it because I was surprised by the ending. Not many books can surprise me so big kudos to the author on that.
All in all, I will look forward to reading more by this author. There is the promise of really good things to come here and I can't wait.

Perfect zombie apocalypse book for anyone aged 15 years or older. Not too much gore or foul language. All of the MAIN characters were easy enough to like, they just seemed to have it a bit too easy, all were expert marksmen. The story keeps a steady pace, not really any slow spots, has a unique and unexpected twist in the end. This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review.
