Zombified is about Cassie, a high school senior that gets infected by a virus that will eventually turn her into a zombie. She teams up with other infected but not yet flesh-eating people to find help to get cured. I read this in two days. It's a quick read, funny, and a great look at zombies from the inside. It felt a little too rushed in some parts. I would've liked certain scenes extended and had others to flow better. Very few typos that came only toward the very end. Not sure how else it could've ended, but it was an entertaining and funny ending. Will we see how Cassie's end will come in another book about Neil/Joseph?

FOUR POINT FIVE STARS!!

My first thought of Zombiefied is that it’s definitely a page turner. I finished the book in one day. The opening of the book was astonishing to say the least. To be inside Cassie’s head as she was devouring her victim was awesome. It reminded me of the anime High School of the Dead once the flashback started. This subject has been something rarely touched, but I enjoyed the ride. I love the fact that we got to see what it was like for a zombie to become one and even being one after the fact.

Diving into the past and reliving the day she was bit was intriguing. It allowed me to meet her best friend and her crush Brett briefly. When the zombies began attacking the school everything kicked into high gear.

When her teacher lunged at her after talking, it kind of threw me off because zombies usually die before eating people. But then as I read more I saw that people were actually capable of being zombies before actually fully turning. Ms. Hamrick had really bit her. Ugh, made me upset because even though I knew she’d be a zombie I was hoping not so soon. I was secretly rooting for Cassie to make it haha, she even got to be with the guy she always wanted.
I actually laughed out loud about the bath salt line; it was great to see that thrown in there because of the recent news casting truly surrounding that.

“I had literally bitten my crush’s face off!” was my favorite line.

The phrase Reddy Teddy was hilarious in its own right.

I was rooting for the two (Brett and Cassie) but it didn’t last. That actually stayed on my mind the whole time I read the story. I felt bad for the guy because she left him in the dust after biting his face off. I wanted to see him pop back up somewhere but it never happened. Her loyalty to Rose was more than to anyone else it seemed and I found that odd. I wanted to scream go find Brett haha.

Introducing the new characters seemed easily done and not forced which is always a great thing. It was very believable.

All in all, the author dragged you deep into her world and kept you on the edge of your seat. Not knowing when someone would turn on you, you had to be cautious of everything and everyone. She vividly painted the world from the eyes of Cassie. Zombiefied is one that will make you laugh, and then in an instant want to cry. In some instances it makes you want to yell “Why in the world did you get out of the truck?!” Hahaha. It reminded me of Zombieland, with a little of The Walking Dead which I love.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it seems to be set up for a sequel. I give Zombiefied 4.5 out of 5 stars only because I was worried about Brett the whole time and want to see what happened to him. Not to mention Cage. She gave up on the guy right when he snapped and stuck with Rose yet again who had long been crazy. I think I’m just a romantic at heart and wanted to see a little more of it even though this book was definitely about that. You did a great job and I will be looking for more from you.

Cassie's day starts off like any normal day, passing notes with her friend in class. She notices a man outside of the classroom window and he looks like he may have been in an accident. His skin is a grayish tone and his clothes are bloody and torn. He breaks the window, startling the teens. Their teacher tries to scare the man off with her yardstick and she gets hurt in the process. Men show up, armed with guns and shoot the man. The school is now in a panic with these gray skinned people eating everyone. Somewhere along the way, Cassie is infected. She doesn't turn immediately like the rest of the zombies.

After leaving the school, Cassie sets off on her own. She meets another woman who has been infected but not yet changed. They agree to accompany each other, to where, they don't know quite yet. They meet more people on the way.

I don't want to spoil too much so I will stop there.

I was hooked immediately after reading the prologue. I found it disturbingly hilarious. I really hope that it was meant to be that way or I will feel pretty twisted for finding it comical lol. I haven't read many zombie books, but this one was extremely refreshing. I enjoyed reading Cassie's experience before and after her turn. It was very enjoyable and I would definitely recommend it! I must say, the epilogue was just as entertaining as the prologue. It kinda leaves it open for another book... hint, hint, Emily :-)

I received a review copy from the publisher, but those of you who have read my other reviews know that I don't allow that to cloud my opinion. In fact, I often ask the person submitting a book to me if they are certain they are ready for my review because I don't mince words.

That said, Zombified is a clever and fun twist on the zombie tale. It is told from the perspective of a high school girl at the onset of the ZA. What makes this just a bit different from the norm is that some individuals who are bitten seem to hang on to their humanity a bit longer than others. They are aware of what they are, and more frightening, what they are destined to become. Cassie, the central character is one of those who gets bitten early on and does not turn right away. It is a fun and entertaining story with its moments of action interspersed with the sometimes cynical, sometimes witty, and often amusing observations of a teen aged girl.

The story is suitable for younger readers but is not what I would consider YA. The book is fairly clean in the editing department, a few errors, but nothing that drew me out of the story or broke the flow too much. The only one that really had me stop was a "what" that should have been a "that". Still, a clean read and an enjoyable one. It is not too lengthy and you should be able to wander around this entertaining landscape for a few days. Overall, I have to give the book a solid 3.5 stars, but have rounded up just like I learned in math class.

Possible spoilers.

Zombie reads rock. I enjoyed this particular take on zombies and found myself almost crying as I rooted for the main character, Cassie, all the way to the harrowing end. She’s a normal teen at high school, doing teen things when out of the blue, the school is surrounded by dead people! You can imagine the panic that ensues and Cassie barely gets away from the flesh eating zombies. By barely, I mean, she really doesn’t. Hiding a tiny wound she received from her teacher-now-full-blown zombie, she tries to hide in a janitor’s closet hideout with her crush, Brett, and his friend. Unfortunately, she starts to crave for less than savory foods and ends up chewing on her would-be boyfriend, to her utter dismay. Thought you had problems right?

The rest of the story follows her travelling to find sanctuary, still not fully changed into full zombie and doing her best to avoid eating others. Hanging out with another lady named Rose, who was also bit, they try to find help and maybe even a cure. Running into a father and son duo, Trent and Cage, where the son Cage isn’t all what he seems to be, they race against vigilantes, people shooting them and scavenging for food.

Though I was sad at the end, not really what I wanted to see but I could tell it was coming, I highly recommend this zombie adventure. Not your usual flesh eating corpse read, which makes it a must read!

When I read the prologue I honestly thought I wasn't going to like this book. I was wrong—I did end up liking it. Zombified is a novella, and a very quick read. You won't want to put it down until the end. I read it in a matter of a couple of hours.

The story is told from the main character's (Cassie's) point of view. Cassie manages to get herself bitten during a zombie attack at her high school. The story follows Cassie throughout her “turn” into a zombie. I think this is the part of the story I like most. Usually zombie-type stories are about the people who are running from the zombies.

I found this story entertaining with likable characters. The only thing that I would suggest is for the author to trash the prologue. A prologue sets the tone of the story to be told and I don't think the prologue of this book adds to the story, if anything is detracts from it.

The first chapter had me wondering what I was letting myself in for. Never had I read a book from a zombie’s point of view. In fact, I’ve never had any sympathy for zombies – until now.

The plot is original and moves at a fast pace. Paranormal romance fanatics will enjoy the romance in this quick read. I especially had a good laugh at the scene where they were on a high-speed chase from the police, racing through a cornfield and then a forest, and zombie Rose on the back of the truck being whipped to no end by cornstalks and tree branches. Imagine me lying in bed, trying to laugh as quietly as I can so as not to wake hubby, at the author’s tongue-in-cheek humorous description of the priceless look on Rose’s face that makes you want to double over with laughter. For this alone I highly recommend the book.

The kindle version I received for review needs to be formatted and edited some more, but overall this is a really nice story which I recommend for YA fans new to the zombie genre.

…I can’t. I just…I cannot make myself finish this book. I can’t even get to where she actually turns into a zombie. This is yet another case of finding a book just to fill out the alphabetized book journal. I recently purchased another book journal, and this one has 14 pages for every letter, so you better believe I’m going to do some more research before I end up going into another slump because I just downloaded based on the title.

Back to the review!

There was one piece of media that I feel did this concept very well, I really enjoyed that show. iZombie. I feel like that did the whole ‘zombies are people too’ thing much better than this story did.

I won a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I have read dozens of zombie genre books, but never one like this. The prologue had me scratching my head after reading about the thoughts of a female zombie who had just finished feasting on parts of a human body. Her best friend, another zombie, was across the courtyard having her own dinner. She was shuffling across the empty space and communicating with her friend in a series of growls and grunts, understanding one another. I was not expecting this and quickly jumped in to see what it was all about.

The story begins with Cassie, a normal 17 year old teenage girl, sitting in a classroom with other students. Suddenly there is an alarm and a voice on the PA system announces that the school is in lockdown and everyone should remain calm. Cassie spots a lone youth, covered in blood and walking awkwardly toward the classroom window. He beats upon the glass relentlessly, eventually breaking it and attacks the teacher who is trying to fend him off with a wooden yardstick. Strangers bursting into the room with guns blazing toward the zombie causes a sheer panic, driving the students toward the doorway and outside. Here, they are confronted by rapid former teachers, students and neighbors intent on biting them. Cassie goes back into school and is rescued by her high school crush, he leads her to a secret room at the rear of a janitorial closet. Here they'll be safe, at least, for now.

It isn't long when Cassie has to go to the restroom, not stooping so low to peeing into a bucket. She is escorted to the ladies room and her crush guards the doorway. Cassie doesn't expect to run into her teacher in the stall next to hers. She was standing on a single leg, the other bitten off below the knee, already turned. She attacks Cassie, biting her on the end of her finger.

Cassie leaves the school after attacking her "crush" and wonders the countryside looking for other survivors. Instead, she finds others like herself - bitten but not turned. One of them has heard of a cure so they head out together looking it. During the next three days, the group discovers that when encountering zombies, they are not molested - recognized as one of their own.

As time goes by, they continue to advance and eventually turn, becoming full-blown zombies themselves. Cassie maintains her sense of humor and teenager mentality, leading readers to believe that zombies can think, communicate and make friends when encountering other zombies.

The story is hilarious in parts and offers readers a whole new perspective on what we know about zombies. It is short and can be read in an afternoon. I'd recommend it and look forward to the next book in the series.

I won this gem of a novella from “LIBRARYTHING”. What set this apart from all the other z-bee novels I have read & loved? It is told from the zombies POV. I was curious to see and hear what it was like for Cassie (our main character) as she turned from human to zombie, what it was like as she fed for the first time (did she feel guilt?), and how she interacted with other zombies.

“Zombified” may be short but it packs a punch. It is a thoroughly entertaining story. The characters were well thought out and engaging. I loved being in Cassie’s and Rose’s heads as they went from human to zombie. I was glad the author gave the characters a few days before they turned. It added more suspense and emotion to the story. It also allowed me to see them as more than brain munchers. Obviously once they are fully turned it is kill or be killed time. There is no time to mourn what they once were. In “Zombified” we see what they once were and get an inside look at what they were becoming.

The world was pretty typical of the zombie worlds we are used to in books. I recognized the same looted stores and buildings, cars crashed and abandoned all over the highways, people scrambling to survive, etc. In “Zombified” not a lot was put into the world building, but that was ok. I feel this is more of a character driven story and it works. Trent is the only part of the story that seems highly unrealistic to me. Unrealistic for a true zombie tale anyways. I love his character, what he adds to Cassie’s character, and the story. I just don’t see him as a human staying alive for long car tripping with zombies!

Holding off the inevitable until they could find the “cure” was the main mission of this group: a human and 3 in the process of turning into zombies. Their life while looking for the cure was quite graphic, scary, and chilling. Emotional too. It was certainly realistic and held true to form as far as zombie novels go. I could not put “Zombified”down to be honest. It was that entertaining and engaging. It was short so it went by fast. I read it in an hour or two. I am looking forward to meeting up with Cassie and Rose again in the follow up to “Zombified”. It is the typical zombie tale we all love, and the twist of being inside the zombie to be’s head and heart was an added bonus. If you are into zombie novels or have yet to get into the genre I feel this is a great introductory novella.

This was an interesting Zbook. It is told from Cassie's, (a teenage girl), viewpoint. She is in school, writing a note to her best friend about her crush. Pretty normal high school day. Until the principal makes an announcement for everyone to get into a classroom and the doors are to be locked. Then she watches a slow moving bloody guy make his way to her classroom and break through the window. There ends normal.

This was a fun book to read. The author did an excellent job bringing back high school, crushes and humiliation. Cassie is wonderfully written. She is all at once, average, intelligent, funny, sarcastic and strangely, (as she becomes a zombie), a survivor. Normally the running, hiding and trying to find help are the live surviving people. In this book it is the bitten; though there was one unbitten survivor in the group. That provided some interesting dilemmas.

Zombified is a different take on zombies. I am very interested in seeing where the author takes this. I highly recommend this novella. I believe it is going to be a fun series.

This book is older teen friendly in that there is no explicit sex or language. There is violence, (it is a zombie book), that does include an attempted rape. While I am not fond of rape scenes, (attempted or completed), I do understand that in a world turned upside down this is a reality. The author handled that graciously without the use of excessive nudity and violence.

I was lucky enough to receive an electronic copy of Zombified in a Librarything Giveaway,

Zombified is a cute little Young Adult zombie novella with a novel twist - it's from the point of view of a zombie. Or rather a teenage girl as she is becoming a zombie. Either way, you don't often get the zombie's viewpoint.

The plot is a little predictable in that it involves hiding, banding together, seeking supplies, seeking shelter and that inevitable journey to find a cure at the CDC (sound fammiliar?).

However, Zombified is written in a friendly, colloquial way with plenty of humour thrown in to season the plot. There are a few disappointing grammatical and punctuation errors, and even one painful incidence where the word 'assured' was used instead of what I presume should have been 'ushered'. But despite this, I had an enjoyable hour or two making my way through this little gem, enjoying the characters and the way they are dealing with what is happening to them.

Reading this is a good way to pass some time, and it is enjoyable, but the amateur errors and VERY short plot (it's only 100 pages, and it's spaced very widely) make this a 2 star book for me I'm afraid!

I received a copy of this book from the Author for an honest review.

Zombies are not my usual genre as I have the misconception of them all being slow moving, blood thirsty monsters who have no other thought pattern then to kill and eat humans. Oh wait that is what they are.. but this story will have you viewing life as a zombie a bit differently. With some slap stick comedy, a bit of romance and even some heroic deeds, this story has a very unique twist on the paranormal. The characters are well developed and sometimes the descriptions are too good, but that could be my weak stomach speaking. Of course any story like this is far fetched, but deep seeded in the back of your mind you could see this actually playing out. That unnerved me by far the most. With the CDC tampering with disease and then not having a cure, you could definitely see that happening. For her first novel I think she did a good job of story telling Zombie style! Definitely a fun story for YA who like Zombies, the paranormal and don't mind a bit of gore.

I loved Zombified. It is a quick fun read from the zombies point of view. It was a lot of fun reading about Cassie's journey as she is turning into a zombie, and the zombie friends she makes along the way.

Cassie's day starts out like any other until her school is attacked by people with grey skin and bloody clothes. While trying to figure out what is going on and what to do next Cassie is bitten.

Cassie's transformation from human to zombie does not happen right away, but she does get the random taste for human flesh at the worst possible time. After Cassie gets her first taste of human flesh she leaves her school and starts her journey where she meets the first of her bitten friends, Rose as well as a few others.

I don't want to give away too much, but if you love a good zombie read you will definitely want to pick up this book. Lyra McKen does a great job writing Zombified and I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

I received this book from the author in return for an honest review.

I really like zombie books told from the zombie's point of view. I have read a couple: Warm Bodies and Breathers: A Zombie's Lament and I have liked them both. Warm Bodies and Breathers, take place after the main characters have already become zombies while Zombified starts before Cassie becomes infected. Zombified is told from the point of view of 17-year-old zombie Cassie. This is a really, quick, clever read. The characters in this book have actually seen popular zombie movies so when zombies attack Cassie's school, at least the characters start acting practically, though they at first seem to be in shock and think the world has just gone crazy because of some kind of bath salt abuse. Cassie meets other infected and the group set out to search for a cure. This book doesn't quite end with a resolution, it is left open so perhaps there will be more adventures in the future for Cassie.

I got this book from the author for a honest review. I am not a big fan of zombie books and honestly this one isn't a lot different for me except that the characters and plot of the book were better then most...I still didnt like the whole zombie eating people thing etc...but honestly I did enjoy the story..there was more to the zombies then just eating people and wasn't a bad story. I would def recommend this story to those who enjoy zombies especially and for those who might be interested in trying a new zombie book just to try one this would be a good one to start with. I am thinking about reading the next book when it comes out. :)

If I were a zombie, I would want my story to be just like this one. Funny and full of spunk, Zombified is a refreshing take on zombie life.

Cassie is your average teenager who gets attacked by one of her teachers. Now slowly changing into a zombie, we experience life as it goes from all about boys and clothes to wanting to survive to wanting to eat someones face.

Zombified will leave you wanting more and prepared for the Zombie Appocalypse. With detailed scenes and awesome script, you will get sucked into this book in no time.

I definitely recommend this to all zombie lovers and haters for a great read and a different take on zombie life.

I was drawn to the book by its cover. A once beautiful, mysterious girl, mascara flowing, who is now sad but aware and who is turning ... into a zombie. A fresh point of view, bitten but not gone. Cassie, the main character, quickly becomes infected. However, she can still talk, walk, think clearly, eat cheese sandwiches and appreciate boys. With her friends she treks from one safe house/disease center to the next, hoping for help and a cure. A sweet book, one that I will keep and add to favorites, to take out, re-read and enjoy on a bleak rainy day.

the zombie apocalypse from the zombie's perspective. this book goes into detail from the beginning of one girls world to her final thoughts of what its like to give into the need to devour living flesh. she begins at school like any other 17 yo and just a short few days later her life and the way she lives as the undead. The author takes from the fears of general public and brings the stories to life with a brand new twist.

A very good story about the beginning of the end! A normal day at school turns out to be good because of a lockdown ( no work) then it turned real bad as a zombie tries to chomp through a window. The author has a great imagination, and if she wrote more zombie books id read them.
