Moonlighting

Rate this book
Forced to flee France, in the 12th century, to preserve their community, the werewolves moved to less populated England. Fitzwilliam Darcy lived at Pemberley in the far northern parts of England. He inherited his leadership of the Pemberley pack from his late father. His human mother had passed long before her mate. In an effort to dilute the bloodlines to better control the "change", the males sought human wives. Darcy's love of Elizabeth Bennet was complete and for life. Bound by the law of the pack to withhold his true identity until his wife was with child, Darcy married Elizabeth Bennet at the same time as his best friend, Charles Bingley, married her sister, Jane.

Now in the far reaches of Pemberley, will Lizzy learn her husband's secret? Will she escape this unnatural community or, will their love prevail against overwhelming odds? What will her life be as the Alpha Female of the werewolves of Pemberley?

I think there are two ways of looking at this book - it is an escapist bit of silliness or a utter pile of P&P Porn.

The petite Blonde (what?) Lizzy Bennet meets and eventually falls in love with the mysterious Fitzwilliam Darcy. Both her father and her sister Jane try to talk her out of the marriage but she is resolved. He takes her away to Pemberley which is not a beautiful garden estate but a creepy castle on the Scottish border. There they have lots of sex while he keeps his clothes on and everyone has pet wolves.

Jane fans won't like the way she is presented and Bingley fans will be even more outraged

Oh yeah

This made Pride and Prejudice and Zombies seem a lot better

The story description gives the reader a very good idea of the premise. Darcy truly believes in fate as he meets and is drawn to Elizabeth. But he is bound by the laws of the werewolf pack in their union.

In reading this story, I didn't feel the love. First of all, the author writes Elizabeth with blond hair and blue eyes while Georgiana has black hair. I was also not finding the "bedroom scenes" convincing in passion. Elizabeth is repulsed by a certain position and even one scene between Charles and Jane left me know "feeling" there was an unfulfilled coming together. I am not anti love scenes but I do have some standards as to how they are written. The mechanics are not as necessary as the feelings aroused in a joining.

The laws of the werewolf packs (in that when a male married a human the practice was not to let her know anything about what she was getting herself into) also did not sit well with me. Other paranormal stories have Elizabeth much more informed beforehand and accepting the "non-human" role for Darcy because of her deep love. Herein she is basically trapped and isolated from her family and previous acquaintances and even when she expresses a desire to see them or to explain this "situation" with Jane or then further, to escape/runaway, she is forced to accept the laws, the commands of the pack, or the alpha male.

Wickham and outlawed werewolves make things even more difficult for Elizabeth and for Darcy. Darcy from the first disappears for days and Elizabeth has to simply accept his absence both before and after the wedding. Small details disturbed me: Elizabeth is told that they will have separate bedrooms when they marry.

Elizabeth has stepped into a world in which she is surrounded by those of the same nature as Darcy. She finds that men bow low to the ground and women curtsy and she is even called Lady Darcy...not realizing that as the Alpha Female she is held in high regard. And when she does, at last, learn it all, she is full of disbelief that the other women, both of the servant class and her equals have accepted this "captivity" so meekly.

This story did hold my attention. It just did not completely sit well in some of the telling.

“This howling mouth, this head which rolls back and tries to escape.” Frederick Leboyer

As stated in other reviews… ‘I didn’t feel the love.’ I heard ODC [our dear couple] saying the words ‘I love you,’ but I didn’t feel the emotions behind it. There were many scenes that were well done; however, the journey getting to them was short, brusque, lifeless and bland. This author is known for the unusual wording that makes the reader stop and wonder what it was the author really meant or was trying to say.

“Love will find a way through paths where wolves fear to prey.” Lord Byron

This Elizabeth seemed too young and immature… she said and did things that were stupid and not like our Elizabeth. Her actions were foolish and crazy. She put herself and others in jeopardy and danger and acted younger than Georgiana.

The greatest writing license taken by this author… Lizzy was a blonde. Our author stated that all the Bennet girls were blonde. I’ve even seen a book cover recently with a blonde Lizzy. I don’t like it, but that is the universe our author created. I also resented the rift set up between Jane and Elizabeth. There were several threads left dangling and unless there is another book… there will be many questions left unanswered.

“If you turned into a wolf, there’s no reason why you’d become evil and start eating people, is there? You’d just be a wolf, run around, try to catch rabbits or something.” Martin Millar

I liked the premise and the story-line of the werewolf… just not how it was presented. Darcy’s attitude toward his servants grated on my nerves. I realize he was like a noble in their eyes [the alpha male], but to hear him speak with such harshness and to see servants quiver and quake in his presence became old quickly. Considering he could kill them on the spot… I guess I would quake also.

Rating: PG-17: MA = Mature Audience: violence, trigger warnings: an attempted rape, brutality, explicit sex within the marriage bed, sensual/sexual discussions, warring factions and battle scenes within the wolf packs.

I had looked @ this book several times and chose one book after another, wanting something a bit different I finally purchased it. I've read other books by Ms Wegner and have enjoyed them. Anyone who is a true JA pureist will probably not like this but if one open to a new Mr. Darcy I think you would enjoy reading it. Darcy once again wins Lizzy's heart but it is hinged on a secret and it takes them to a new home ,more than 50 miles of good road. Jane is not sweet andvery judgemental @ times. *****************SPOILER**********************************One night a drunk and horny Bingley tries to Jane's softer side and she reads like Carolyn instead. The bond shared between sisters is sadly severed. Than there is the changes to Darcy's personality. He is not as much of the gentleman as he was a gentle man(used loosely). Wegner shows us Darcy's animal side and @ times it's really hot. Wickham was evil as usual but was hardly given the time to shine. I felt this rushed a bit and have easily been made into a sequel. This would have given time to focus on unanswered questions. Did Lizzy see her family again? Did Heather and her admirer work out? Did Georgianne find love in her marriage as her brother? It was for those unanswered questions that made me give 4 stars. Still a very fun read and it doesn't hurt that Darcy's primal and protective either(very hot and really sweet).

Okay story...glad to read something other than vampires. Biggest issue with this is that Lizzy Bennet is not the same Lizzy from a physical appearance - in this she has light eyes and blonde hair. Not sure why. I also didn't like how he usually always refer to her as his mate, and not 'my love' or some other endearment.

SPOILERS AHEAD

But for the story itself it was okay - once she discovers the secret she's mad at Darcy which I enjoyed, I just wished she would've stayed mad and angry at him and he then had to work to regain her trust over a period of time. Instead she just forgives him because she can't stay away from him (and maybe the sex, let's face it lol). I think, knowing the opinionated Lizzy Ms. Austen wrote in her original story, that Ms. Wegner could've even caused more anger and frustration with her character of Lizzy - for example, in my mind during the big fight I saw Lizzy saying something about Darcy only wanting a broodmare (in reference to the multiple times of love making they do within the short amount of time after the wedding and also because he can't tell her the truth until she's pregnant and therefore "His" possession). In my mind, I just saw Lizzy caring more of that anger (much like her overly prejudice in the original story) longer than she did until he regained her trust and love.

Just it was a fun, non-serious story if you don't mind your beloved characters being tweaked a little bit.

Three stars and a half, actually...

Pride and Prejudice and... Werewolves! *_*
It has to be the best plot devise ever!

I've read many P&P variations (maybe too many :P) and I never encountered a werewolf Mr. Darcy, so I must praise the authoress for her inventiveness.
I considered giving the book four stars, but my mind protested too vehemently against the depiction of Elizabeth in the story, I can understand change some things about her
(maybe) if it is functional to the story, but I couldn't find any reason good enough to justify the writer's move to turn her into a blond, clueless babe.

Warning! There are depictions of violence and attempted sexual assault!

I was a bit hesitant to read this story, but recently I am on a wave of werewolf stories so why not.
This is the second story I read of Mr Darcy as a werewolf and I actually enjoyed it much more than the first one I read (I think it was Mr Darcy's bite, Mr Darcy was bitten when young and became a were and Elizabeth is very set against him just because of that... anyway, back to the review).

In this book, Mr Darcy was born a werewolf and is from a family and a village. Of course, Elizabeth doesn't know about this and the laws of his people forbid him from telling her before the wedding because she could expose them, putting the whole community in danger.

There is some sweet interactions between Mr Darcy and Elizabeth while he is a wolf, in Hertfordshire and in Kent. Mr Darcy decides to court her and marry her after some hesitation, but when they encounter each other in Kent, he decides that she is his destiny and woos her, like really wooing her. Their interactions are much nicer than in canon and very early on they come to an understanding, and Elizabeth falls deeply in love with Mr Darcy and he with her. She is quite attracted to him and quite as his mercy, but who can blame her?

This Darcy is by far the sweetest version this author has written, he has very high moral standards as well and ... he is a virgin, because his kind usually are chaste before marriage, due to what would happen if they would have an accidental pregnancy outside the community. His community in general are very well behaved people, very caring of their partners and children ...but there is the lingering mystery surrounding them, as perceived by Elizabeth. The story gives off a gothic vibe.

While Elizabeth was betrothed to Mr Darcy, he had to go back to Cumbria, were Pemberley is located in this story, and Wickham took advantage of that to attack Elizabeth in one of her walks. Wickham is one of them, but was excommunicated due to his reprehensive behaviour (There is not much specifics about it, apart from what he did to Georgiana, but by his general attitude and his attack on Lizzy, we know he deserves to be out). The attack is vicious and shocking. If it was not for Mr Darcy's footman that was discreetly following Elizabeth, he would have attained his revenge.

Anyway, Elizabeth marries Darcy against the wishes of Mr Bennet and Jane, that are suspicious of him, and goes to Cumbria. At first, she is well but then things start to not add up, her husband and other people act in a strange way and she figures out what is happening thanks to a piece of jewellery Mr Darcy gave her during their engagement.

There is some conflict but the resolution is very good.
Jane is terrible and appalling.

I would have liked to have a longer epilogue perhaps, with Lizzy's maid and her sweetheart, and who did Georgiana marry at the end?

Different but engaging, 4 stars! If you like some fantasy mixed in with P&P this is for you.

Out of character and so many missed opportunities

When someone chooses to change the physical appearance of a character it should be for a good reason. Lizzy is blond with blue or green eyes. They change throughout the story. This doesn’t seem to push the story further, so why do it . The behavior of the characters is not consistent with the actual story. Other than the names there is no trace of the original story. Then there are all the plot holes. No resolution with Jane. Lizzy wants to run away until she doesn’t. No epiphany moment or character growth. The final story with wickham could have been an epic twist but it falls flat. You do not feel for any of the characters. You are not cheering for anyone. It’s a shame since there was plenty of potential but failed to deliver.

First of all, I am not into scary and spooky stories. I do enjoy the author's writing but somehow I kept putting this novel down and then going back to it. Once I start a book, I finish it because of wanting to see the outcome.
There is definitely love there but Elizabeth suspected something all along and so did her sister Jane. I would say if a person is into the paranormal, then read this novel but for someone wanting romance or something lively, don't read this novel.
This novel did not show Darcy as to his true beliefs, honesty and shyness. He was more forward and not truthful with Elizabeth.
I felt the author tried to take a different direction but it didn't work for me with the whole werewolf plot.

Pride & Prejudice & Werewolves?

I am a big fan of Jane Austen. I really love reading fanfiction and adaptations of her stories.
I really enjoyed this story! My only complaint was the changes in Darcy & Lizzy's character. Darcy is honest to a fault. Lizzy is logical to a fault. In this story, Darcy is deceitful which is explained away with the plot, but it still doesn't fit with the characters original nature as we know it. Lizzy isn't swayed easily by emotion, but in this story, she doesn't really rely on her logic, intelligence, and strength like her original character does.
It's still a wonderful story. I plan to recommend it to friends.

enjoyable

This is enjoyable. I like the society created. I do wish for a deeper dive into these characters. The reason for not telling Elizabeth what she was committing too makes sense. It was cruel not to tell her, but also the risk involved was quite clear. I was annoyed with Elizabeth’s character at times. Her reason go escaping seemed weak and she immediately gave it up once caught? This needed fleshed out more. That said it was enjoyable. I’d love not read one and not purchase, but I did enjoy it.

Fitzwilliam Darcy, is the Alpha Male of his pack - his pack of werewolves. While staying at Netherfield he is attracted to Elizabeth Bennet but refuses to act on it. Until they meet again at Rosings, and their fate is sealed. But unable to tell her about himself until after the wedding he wonders how she will react.
A more imperious Darcy if that is possible but an entertaining read.

Pride and Prejudice and WEREWOLVES?

Oh how I love this story! I am a big P&P fan. I am also a fan of PNR. Both worlds together? Mind blowing! Such a telling of the romance of Darcy and Miss Elizabeth Bennett. This story is well written and has strong characters. I highly recommend this book.

3.5 stars? Great story, though the writing was a little less so

If I didn’t have such a hard time not finishing a story, there were several points I almost stopped.
The storyline was very interesting, though the writing was a little juvenile and incomplete, for my lack of a better word. The editing also left a lot to be desired.
I did like the base story though.

peguei a indicação deste aqui pelo delicioso livro Classics Gone Wild: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Beyond -- A Guide to Literary Monster Mashups. bom demais! e eu devia ter prestado mais atenção ao que elas dizem, pois perfeição:
if you enjoy Stockholm Syndrome love and seeing a beloved, if usually taciturn, hero brought very, very low, this is the book for you.

e aquela conversinha do sr. Darcy não poder falar que os lobos existem, de ter que esperar a mulher estar grávida pra poder contar a verdade! meu sem or, que nojo.

enfim, muito paia, tudo errado, melhor ir passar umas roupas que ofende menos.

Unexpected interesting tale (spoilers)

My first paranormal JAFF and it was interesting, to say the least. I liked the story, felt it was more complicated and angsty. I admit I had a hard time initially wrapping my head around Darcy being a werewolf, but it became easier.

I very much enjoyed I this novel and the only reason I did not give it five stars was because I was not a huge fan of Mr. Darcy's characterization in this novel. While the original Darcy comes off as brooding and standoffish, this one was that and also very underhanded in the way he interacted with Elizabeth. His manner improved as the novel progressed but he was very hard to like for most of the novel until the last chapter or so.

I understand that the point of this was that he had a huge secret that he could not tell Elizabeth until after they were married but he refused to do nothing about it once they were together. It irked me that he would treat her in such a way, the main point in P&P is that they have to look at each other as equals and this Darcy treated her like she was an idiot child, even until the very last.

That being said, I very much enjoyed it and actually devoured it in one sitting so it was a nice treat.

While at Netherfield, tending her sister Jane, Elizabeth encounters a large, black, yet friendly dog – well, he really looks more like a wolf than a dog. Elizabeth spends much time petting, playing with, and talking to this docile creature. He is very intelligent and seems to understand what she says. Although Elizabeth is delighted with her new friend she can't help but wonder: Where did he come from? What type of dog is he? To whom does he belong?

Elizabeth soon learns that her canine friend belongs to none other than Mr. Darcy, a man she despises. What she doesn't learn is that Mr. Darcy is a werewolf, and the dog that she is so fond of is actually Mr. Darcy in his lupine form!

4.5 Stars

I honestly did not expect much when I began reading Moonlighting, but was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it. I have never been completely happy with any of the Pride and Prejudice reimaginings involving supernatural beings, until now. This depiction of Mr. Darcy as the Alpha Male of a werewolf pack in the far north of England was not easy on my love for him; he was too stern and demanding. Under the circumstances though, it was perfectly understandable and actually fit. I would easily recommend this to anyone who has an open mind regarding their JAFF.

Meh it was a little weird, but I enjoyed it. I would definitely read a continuation. I really did like it, and I don't PARTICULARLY mind that it used P&P characters. It didn't have to though. Mostly it annoyed the hell out of me that Elizabeth has blonde hair and blue eyes. Just, no. Honestly though, if that is the worst thing about it, and it is, that's a pretty good story!! It could have used a little more fleshing out, but it is worth reading.

Darcy werewolf

This was a interesting read about Darcy and werewolves. This was thoroughly well written. I enjoyed reading this, but did have a few unlike about this. I enjoyed the concept, idea, and how they came together and survived. I dont like how Elizabeth was initially was made to think she was seeing things about Wickham when he attacked her. I loved Elizabeth 's attempt to escape and how Darcy found her and loved her anyway. Good read over all
