Honestly, though I am a big fan of Kenyon's work, I found this to be the worst thing to come out of the series. It's choppy, tasteless and doesn't carry the charm of the source material. While the book Infinity was genuinely entertaining with the quips made by Nick's inner monologue and the situations he was thrust in, the manga lacks all of these and more. It lost the humor of the series, which is something I adore. Not only this, but the designs were way off. I know that this is set at least eight years before the original series, though I really have to draw the line. Almost none of these designs match the characters nearly as well as the first manga series did. Seriously, I was almost literally in tears about how wrong this manga felt. Perhaps it's mainly because they went with a different manga publisher, which is odd since I read some other manga distributed by this publisher and I actually like them. For whatever reason, this book in the Dark Hunter universe didn't translate nearly as well to manga form as the others. Here's hoping the second one won't be another waste of time.

Free will. Some have called it the greatest gift bestowed on humanity, while others it's a crap myth that we have preordained destiny we can not change. I personally don't believe in this crap. I say I control my destiny and my life. No, nothing controls me. Ever. I am what I have become because of the interference and secrets of one creature, and I curse the day I ever called Acheron Parthenopaeus my friend. I am Nick Gautier. And this is my life and how things should have been... — Ambrose/Nick Gautier

The wording in this graphic novel is almost word for word what is in Infinity for the sections used which is impressive. The focus really is on the illustration and adding a dimension to the characters and story that wasn't necessarily there for some people previously. But what it means is the words and quotes which are what makes Sherri such a beloved author haven't been lost for the sake brevity.

I love Infinity and the whole Chronicles of Nick series this is an opportunity to see what Sherri approves of as forms for her characters. Their official forms if you will. And that shirt... *suppressed shudder* it's just as fugly as I hoped for. Despite my prior knowledge, I don't see this as pure fanservice. This is something that could easily be picked up and understood as a self-contained piece of fiction. It may even encourage readers into the origin series.

On the art. It is well fitted to the story blending the calming and plain with the light horror needed for the zombies. Simi is as cute as I was hoping for, that outfit is still one of the best and most iconic created by Sherri. The two surprises for me were Artie and Sraosha Artie's styling is quite similar to Cherise (just in Grecian robes) note sure what to make of that given their roles in Ambrose's life. Sraosha is just flawless but the clothing, flowing robes are so becoming to that character. Ambrose's physical appearance confuses me. It one point he almost appears to have Sentinel marks, which while a thing in this verse was not something I've ever associated with him. His species is wrong for one. Oh but I do adore the demon forms for the demons in play.

One thing I want to note. This is of its time a bit and there is one piece of problematic language now regarding gender expression. Eric's whole deal is stunning but I'd completely forgotten that tidbit.

Like the novel it is chaotic, the events are rushed, unbelievable reveals and abilities are shrugged if with simple acceptance. But the manga somehow was clearers than the. Novel putting faces with the names helped, it is not the beat dialogue nor the best plot, but I think thanks to the manga I might actually read the second book now.

Quick review. An interesting magna about a HS kid who lives in the poor part of town, son of a single mom who has to be a stripper to make ends meet. he hangs around with a bad crowd at times, and gets bullied in school. This takes place in New Orleans instead of the usual Japan. He is soon pulled into a conflict between the side of evil, who wants his soul, and the forces of good. His decisions will send him down one path or the other, and whichever one he takes, the opposite will try to stop, or kill him. We get some demons in this one, and some zombies, and some vampires I think. Not bad, and enjoyable read and I will be picking up the next one to see what happens to Nick.

With his mom struggling to make ends meet and his lack of coolness keeping him from fitting in at school, Nick prefers to hit the streets - until the streets attempt to hit back, leading him into a world of zombies and demons and a search for the truth about his seemingly bleak future. Ahn brings Kenyon's world to life with a fun and fast-paced manga-esque style that will please series fans and newcomers alike. Just what sort of trouble has Nick found himself in - and can he keep the people he cares about out of it?

I absolutely loved this book! Lovable characters, bayou setting with all the sass and steel made attitude that comes with growing up in the deep south. It had every magical creature you could want with world building paced in a way that eased you into a comfort zone just to smack you out of it with the next twist or turn. Cannot wait to start book two!

Since my teen picked this up, I read it, too. I wasn't going to read these, since I was just going to read the actual novels. This was really good! I didn't think there was anything they hadn't explained in the previous books about Nick's life, but zombies?? I hate zombies!
Enjoy!

I liked this one way more then her adult manga version.
Some of the characters I was iffy on how they looked but for the most part I liked it. She should switch to this artist for all her books if she plans to continue the manga version.

great start

This is my first interaction with this author and so far I am hooked. Interesting and as far as I can tell original spin on some classic “monster” tropes.
Give it a chance

Cute but quite alot of plot holes and question marks that you need to have read previous novels to understand.

It was a great refresher since the newest book is out - Illusion & I'd forgotten some of the details that happened - but anyway - Nick & his mom are poor & he stops his so-called friends from mugging this couple & they shoot him & Kyrian Hunter saves him & gets him to the hospital & hires him - Slowly, Nick becomes involved with the Dark-Huner's World - he meets Acheron, the Simi, Tabitha Devereaux, Caleb & Nekoda - and Ambrose, his future self if i remember correctly - but yeah - the zombie apocalypse goes down & crap when people start trying to eat other & they find out that it's a game one of Nick's friends, Madaug created & they've gotta find the game & the zombie infestation is spreading as more and more people play the game & Nick's powers start showing up & he can see things like Acheron & Caleb's true form & anyway - Maudaug's mom & brother are taken & they save them at the end & it ends with Nick & his mom staying overnight at Kyrian's & Nick looks back in time to see Kyrian's fangs as he yawns :D

As always, everything involving Sherrilyn Kenyon rarely disappoints me. This is an adaptation of the first boon in her young adult series "Chronicles of Nick", and as such, it retains the spirit and humour of the book. If you have read the Dark hunters manga prior to this, the drawing style might result a little bit strange for you. The artists are not the same, therefore the characters are depicted differently. I have to admit that I like Claudia Campos' style a little bit better when it comes to characters like Kyrian or Ash, but I love Ahn's Nick.

this is totally recomendable for any Kenyon fan.

I have been looking forward to this for months and it didn't let me down one bit!! With the latest Chronicles of Nick book coming out in early April, this was a perfect refresher for Nick's first story and it was awesome seeing characters like Nick/Ambrose and Simi especially come to life in art (even more specifically as a manga since Nick's such a fan of them). I really hope there are plans to continue recreating this series in manga form. I love the books so much that I'm positive I'll love the manga's too!

I haven't read the main book series...
The manga was... Interesting, as far as mangas go...
It wasn't laid out in traditional Japanese format, like most mangas I've read.
The chibi styling was just so-so.
But the plot was... Hmm... Could use some work.
The first thing young Nick says is; "I am a socially awkward mandork."
...* Pretty much speaks for itself *
It was written like a book- but taken apart and reformed.
Just kinda odd manga-wise, if you asked me...

It amazed me how many plot twist there were. You're gonna like Nick almost immediately, he's the under dog, a little bit sarcastic that we all have inside. The thing with this manga is that you have absolutely no idea what to expect and that keeps you aware in case you miss some important detail. I loved all the funny scenes, they were all great and smooth.

Quite like this adaption and the drawing style was nice. I wouldn't say it blew me out of the water in comparison to the book (unlike Soulless, which I enjoyed in book style but loved in manga-format). Some of the anatomy seemed a tad off and the dialogue didn't always fit, but it was still an enjoyable introduction and adaptation.

This was ok but definitely not my favourite from the Dark Hunter manga adaptations. The ending felt a little chaotic. I do hope the author will continue to produce manga versions of the main Dark/Were/Dream Hunter series.

Pa lo fome que es el libro en mi opinión, larga vida al cómic. El estilo de dibujo es muy bueno, no hay quejas. Los diseños de personajes son mucho más llamativos para el público objetivo al cual está dirigido el producto.

I truly enjoyed this, keep in mind it is a graphic novel and it is obviously smaller than the book. So...DUH! They can't fit it all in. I enjoyed the illustrations. Simi is so Kawaii Goth that I could die!! EEp! Anyways go into reading this with some realistic expectations and you will enjoy it.
