Waiting . . . and waiting . . . and waiting for a new sibling to arrive. The protagonist is so eager to step into her role as a big sister that she’s starting early! She sticks close to her mama so she can sing songs to her sibling-to-be (loudly, of course) and explain all the great things waiting in the outside world (cupcakes! strawberries! swimming!).

It is one of the cutest children’s books I’ve ever seen. It has the cutest and the most creative illustrations and designs. The entire time, I was thinking about me, a 2-year-old toddler, waiting for my little brother coming out. I couldn’t stop smiling!🥹
Hello in There is a fabulous book to read to a child expecting a new sibling or if Mom and Dad are considering a new baby and want to begin introducing the idea to their first born. This book focuses on the excitement of a new baby as well as the miracle of a baby growing in Mom’s belly. So many books about expecting a sibling remind children of how scary the idea is and that it’s normal for them to feel jealous. While those things are very true and understandable, children are quite impressionable and there can be a lot said for the power of positive persuasion!
Bought as a gift for young daughter of friends, I tracked down a physical copy to make sure it was not going to be confusing for a child w same sex parents -- it's not. Theres a drawing of one adult in a skirt and the other in pants, both from waist down so just fine for what I needed. Love this book, thrilled to be able to gift it.
A little girl excitedly awaits the birth of her new sibling.
A small girl talks to the baby in her mother’s growing abdomen about the world outside and how excited she is for the baby’s impending arrival.
This book features a lift-the-flap construction that reveals the new baby within its mother’s expanding belly. It features a very positive sibling relationship.
Just what parents expecting a second child need for storytime. Explains what is going on with clever flaps but lets the soon to be big sister tell her story too!!
A sister waits for her baby sibling to be born, explaining everything the baby has to look forward to out in the world. It has a cute interactive element where you lift a flap on the mom’s belly to see an illustration of the baby as it gets bigger. Overall a nice book but the ending is a little flat.
Wonderful title and sweet illustrations. Love the growing tummy on the left-hand page of each spread, and how the pattern of mom's maternity top mimics the little girl's environment on the right-hand page. Lift the flaps on mom's tops to reveal the growing bun in the oven!
So cute! Most new baby books focus on sibling jealousy, so it was pretty adorable seeing a book where the sister was excited and protecting the new baby. The fold-out element is charming!
I would recommend this book to anyone excpecting a second child. The tone is positive, the illustrations are charming, and the little flaps that reveal the growing baby are delightful.
One of Jane's favorite books about becoming a big sister. She will quote parts of it in daily life when talking about the baby: "it's dark in there, but i will shine the light on the shadows"
This book is about a young girl who is going to be a big sister. she sings and talks, and protects the baby in her mother's stomach. She speaks about all the fun things they will do together and how the baby is much anticipated and is already loved and part of the family although it has not been born yet. The excitement of the girl drives the story as she waits and prepares for the baby as most likely her parents are doing. A great way to introduce the possibility of a new baby to a sibling.
The illustrations are very simplistic, but is exactly what is needed. First, as the book progresses, the belly of the mother off to the left grows and grows. They also incorporated a peep hole into the belly so we can see what the young girl imagines the baby is doing on the inside. Black and white with just a few splashes of color help to keep the books focus. The simple lines and sparse images do as well. we see the connection bewtween the mother/baby and the sibling because they share the same colors in the image of the belly and of the young sibling.
I believe this book would be great to explain to a child about a new child. This is so because of the language and images being simple, the kids can actually read it to the parent/ baby. because it is written in the way of the young girl speaking to the baby, it makes it more personal for the child to read it and allows for the child's imagination to grow. This book opens up a variety of topics for the parent to speak about with their child. They can talk about loving and caring for a sibling, as well as when people love each other they have babies, and how the possibility of a new child will change everyone's lives and help to ease the transition for the child from a single child to a sibling.
The waiting is the hardest part, but sharing this book that focuses on all the positives surrounding a new baby is a great way to pass the time. The big sister wonders what the baby will look like and imagines all the fun that will be had when the new baby arrives.
Simple illustrations with highlights of basic colors showcase Mom's stomach growing bigger as the baby grows and flaps reveal the changes to baby's development from one spread to the next.
My son has a baby sister coming so I got this book out of the library. I loved the little flaps that open in the mom's growing belly so you can see the baby engaging in all sorts of hilarious activities in utero. It's a great concept and fun to read. My only complaint is that it's not gender neutral. I just change sister to brother and it works out fine, but I wish it was simply a sibling's book of waiting. Otherwise it's sweet and funny and really helps to encourage excitement for the coming baby.
This is a wonderfully sentimental look at the wait a big sister has on her baby sibling. Each page shows the mommy's tummy getting bigger and there a flaps to lift up to see the baby growing too. That mixed with the big sisters mounting excitement make the book a refreshing take on discussing pregnancy. The book also isn't meant to go into the biology of anything, so this could be a much easier book for parents who want to put off that discussion.
For: new parents; future siblings.
Possible red flags: pregnancy; birth; an emotional or "sappy" look at the subject matter.
My almost-three-year-old son loved this. I'm not sure he understood that each time he lifted the flap to peek inside the mama's belly he was seeing the same baby, just a little bigger. But he loved the different shaped flaps, and it gave us an opportunity to talk about all the things he's doing/going to do for his baby brother or sister.
Really fun new sibling book. So many focus on the negative things that often happen when a baby is on the way or newly arrived (sharing attention and toys, being angry at the baby, etc.) but this one really focuses on how exciting it can be for an older sibling. And acknowledges how hard it is to wait. All with flaps and fun illustrations!
these are few and far between, but this is a positive sibling/pregnancy book. The lift the flaps are fun to see how the baby is doing similar things as the older sibling. The belly grows and the baby grows a little bit. Definitely recommend this to moms to be.
A lovely lift the flap adventure following a little girls time line while waiting for her new baby brother or sister to be born! A fun way to introduce and integrate the new baby coming into your family!
Hello In There! is a sweet story of a little girl who is eagerly awaiting the arrival of her new sibling by conversing with mothers ever growing tummy. This would be a perfect gift for any household that is expecting a new addition to their family. The illustrations are simple and fun.
This book will make for a fantastic gift for the big sibling patiently waiting on the new baby's arrival. Each page is simple, with cute lift-the-flaps of the baby in mama's belly and the sister speaking to the baby.
Excellent book about a big sister welcoming her new sibling to the family as the baby grows in her mom's belly. There's an open-the-flap feature on each page so that you can see the cartoon baby swimming, smiling and prancing about the womb. A very nice way to welcome a new sibling!
