So I picked this book to read since my son has to read it for one of his English classes (why this book...no idea). It was okay but way different than I thought a JG book would be. 3rd string QB Rick "REEK" gets booted from the Browns (ick!) and his agent finds him a job playing in Parma,Italy. The descriptions of the Italian culture and food are VERY detailed. Honestly loved reading about the Italian food. As a football fan, I also enjoyed the detailed football talk. My son should have no issues reading this.
DNF. So boring. As many others have commented, not your typical Grisham. Protagonist "Rick" is supremely unlikeable, coupled with pretty much no plot whatsoever, halfway through, and I just couldn't slog through it anymore. As short it is, it seemed interminable. Skip it unless you are so fascinated by detailed descriptions of every single meal, misogynistic commentary about every single female character, and detailed descriptions of every minute on the playing field. I should have ditched this read sooner.
Not your typical John Grisham. This book is about Italy and football. If you don't have an interest in these 2 things, don't bother reading this book. If you do, then it's a good book.
