Julie Cannon is a native sun goddess born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. She is a corporate stiff by day and dreamer by night. She has nine romance novels and five short stories published by Bold Strokes Books. A recent transplant to Houston, Julie and her partner Laura live on the lake with their two kids, two dogs and a cat.
2 1/2 Stars. At one point in time, I would have put Cannon as one of my favorite authors. However, more books that I have been reading lately have been misses not hits. Unfortunately, this book just did not work for me at all. I had such a hard time with the past/present of this book. The book constantly was jumping back and forth, back and forth. And most of the time it included no line breaks or anything to tell you what time period you were reading. You would be reading along about the characters in a meeting, then the next sentence they were on a boat. It was so damn confusing I would have to backtrack and try to figure out when the switch happened. It was basically unreadable for me and I couldn't get pass these issues to enjoy the story. I will continue to read Cannon in hopes I will find another gem of hers, but yes this was disappointing.
Intertwining timelines in between what happened on the cruise trip and in parallel with what is happening presently with Emery and Dana, where they share a boss vs subordinate relationship. The only distinction between the past and present timelines is when you see different names of the same characters coming up, so if you're not really paying attention and trying to skim through the book, it can be a little bit confusing.
There's great tension and chemistry between Emery and Dana, and in a corporate setting where their relationship could be detrimental to their careers. I love it as well that the book brought back Lauren and Elliott from Come and get me, it's nice to see some glimpse of them both in a different stage in life.
There isn't any prolonged plot with twists and tuns.... all you will find is entertaining splendid fantasy! If you are in the mood for pure romance, you wouldn't be disappointed.

Great plot, unusual twist and wonderful women. Julie Cannon’s latest novel touches on the lives of Lauren and Elliot from “Come and Get Me” but it isn’t a sequel and stands perfectly well alone.
Ms Cannon creates great characters; it is one of the trademarks of her books. Full of life, passion and integrity they are the women we want to be leading the corporate world. While professional and exemplary at work, however, they lead passionate private lives that, at least sexually, expresses a much more dramatic nature. If this case both have struggled to find their perfect partner and find release in short term affairs which don’t impinge on work but don’t satisfy their hearts.
This plot is a good twist on the usual girl meets girl but something is in the way. While both women have their hang-ups it is their moral integrity that prevents them from moving forward. We see their struggles as they deal with what is obviously a match made in heaven, and each woman reacts differently to the attraction she feels.
We jump back and forwards between Emery and Dana’s lives before the cruise, during and after. So you do need to keep your wits about you to keep track, but it it holds together and has clearly been well scripted as a whole.
The corporate shenanigans and travel form an interesting backdrop to the romance. We see how sexism and homophobia are not restricted to men, but can cause women to undermine each other out of fear and hate. Clearly drawn from personal experience Ms Cannon’s corporate background give her novels a welcome veracity.
This is, primarily, a romance with extremely hot sex scenes and delightful passion. I thoroughly enjoyed the journey and hope there will be more books to add to the loose ‘series’ in the future.
I tried a few times to get into this book, but I couldn't get past the first few chapters. Books that flip past to present do not bother me as I know they do other readers but the jumps in this book would come with no indication to the reader. It was confusing and would pull me out of the book.
Great book. At first it confused me when it spoke of the same women when it transition from past to present. I love how it shows us a glimpse into Lauren and Eliot's life after "Come and Get Me". The way Emery's and Dana's love takes a little time to build up into the love they know they had but working in the same same place making it a little harder for them. Even after building on what they had on the cruse it led them to finally fall in love to finally actually believe they were meant to be. i Just didn't like the way it ended it ended to simple, it could have ended with a little more love i guess.
I'm not normally a massive fan of Julie Cannon books even though I always seem to want to read the next release but I must say I really enjoyed this. I wouldn't go as far to say it's one of my favourite Lesbian Romance novels but it captured my attention from the start.
I don't normally love when a book jumps past to present throughout but this was executed well.
I could fell the tension, love and admiration both characters had for one another in the present and in the past I could feel the lust, attraction and desire for one another.
I'd definitely recommend it and I'll be putting it in my 'Read again' file on my kindle!
While I liked the story the format of this book was terrible. I didn't mind that it swapped between past and present so much - despite the fact that sometimes it was mere sentences apart as the fact there was no formatting whatsoever so that it was just plain confusing sometimes. Seriously is a line spacing orca row of dots too much to ask?
Great accompanying story to "Come and get me". Would've given 4* but for the frequent jumps between present and past ~ without any cue to the reader ~ created too many pauses for my mind to pause, backtrack and then resume.
It was a mildly entertaining lesbian fiction, but ended abruptly so I was kind of disappointed, but I love getting to read anything with lesbian characters.
