The treatment of diabetes is ever-changing as technologies progress; as new medications are discovered, tested, and approved; and as researchers uncover breakthrough findings in the field of endocrinology. . In Until There Is a The Latest and Greatest in Diabetes Self-Care , respected Certified Diabetes Educator and author Gary Scheiner delivers the most up-to-date information and analysis on groundbreaking developments in the world of diabetes. Scheiner’s commentary is founded not only in his professional experiences and expertise as an educator, but also in over 25 years of successfully managing his own type 1 diabetes. Until There Is a The Latest and Greatest in Diabetes Self-Care is the perfect book for people with diabetes, their spouses, friends, and families, diabetes educators, or healthcare professionals who require the most current, relevant information on advancements in diabetes research, technologies, and treatments.
I got this book to better understand my grandpa's type 2 diabetes diagnosis and to be able to talk to him knowledgeably about what sort of management and treatment was out there. Gary really opened up the world of diabetes and gave me lots of really useful info, but in terms I could understand. It was a great introduction and was extremely comprehensive, and I'll recommend it to the rest of my family.
As a mom of two T1Ds, I never thought I would say this about a Gary Scheiner book, but this didn't really offer anything new. I didn't learn any new information or find myself surprised by any technology or gadget or find any suggestion to write down for later. If you can google diabetes technology or if you participate in the DOC in any way, this isn't a book you need to add to your pancreas library. I want to say that maybe it was written for people new to diabetes but I can't see it helping them as it isn't the stuff you worry about in that first month. I feel like I spent $10 (Amazon price, not suggested retail) to find a book that is simply an text version of comparison charts on diabetes gear - meter, pump, syringes, insulins, etc. In one word: meh.
Very clear, very concise, an easy to read and understand overview of the current therapies for managing diabetes that was long overdue. A must have for anyone newly diagnosed with diabetes and a volume that most longtime suffers would benefit from as well. Education is the greatest boon we can give ourselves and Mr. Scheiner's book is one of the most positive and empowering pieces of literature I've read on the subject since my own diagnosis over 20 years ago. Most of us see clinicians and doctors who have little time to explain the full nature of the disease and all the vagaries of our treatments. "Until There Is A Cure" does a marvelous job of pushing back the shadows and filling in the gaps between the brief bits that are hurriedly passed to us from physicians who are pressed by their workload to get on to their next patient. I absolutely and heartily encourage all fellow diabetics to make this volume a part of their personal libraries.

my mom has done some self care with her having diabetes all of her life. I have been around diabetes all my life I currently do not have diabetes but I have been around people that have or had diabetes. I say," Had" is because some of my close relatives have died of having diabetes. If they were alive today I think they could of got better care with they're diabetes. Due to all the technology that they have now.
Diabetes can only effect the part of your body that produces sugar it can effect your heart to. Some of my relatives have died of heart failure. I'm not a doctor I just heard from the doctor that it is stress on the heart.
This is a very informative book. While it is geared for the Type 1 diabetic, there is a lot of information that is useful for the Type 2 diabetic as well as those with gestational diabetes and caregivers of juvenile diabetes.
Although I have been around (and living with) diabetics for the past too many years to count, I learned a lot and even answered some questions I didn't even realize I had until I read something and I thought "Oh, that's why the doctor said that."
With diabetes on the rise in this country (and around the world), it behooves everyone to read up on the subject, and this short book is a great place to start.
Until There Is a Cure: The Latest and Greatest in Diabetes Self-Care is a good introduction to current treatments, medicines, and d-technology. Even being a seasoned d-mom myself, I learned a thing or two. I would also say that while the book is probably geared more towards type 1 diabetes, people with type 2 diabetes who are on insulin may find it valuable as well.
This book is my bible. I have learned more through this reading than all medical professionals combined. I never knew before to take my fast acting insulin 15 to 30 minutes prior to eating. My post meal spikes have been virtually eliminated. I just wish an updated edition would be available.
Fantastic overview of current treatment options and technology breakthroughs. Provides wonderful insight for anyone diagnosed or caring for someone with diabetes.
Very educational and helpful. Everything is covered in a compact easy to read book. Recommend for anyone with diabetes. I recieved this book through goodreads
