Starting with the basic blocks for skirts and bodices (and also a jacket and trouser block), Gillian Holman shows you how to add the refinements, such as necklines, collars, sleeves, yokes, flounces, pleats, peg tops, pockets, and crossovers. Each design element is accompanied by sketches and patterns. It is a step-by-step introduction to the techniques of pattern cutting for fashion students and amateur dressmakers.
The introduction quite clearly states that it is for fashion design students and experienced home dressmakers. I feel the publishing company have not been fair to the author. They could have produced a book that could have appealed to a wider readership. The information is valuable but the book design is almost non existent. The book cover design seems to promise a contemporary book about dressmaking, but the interior leaves a lot to be desired. The drawings could have been much better. It failed to inspire me.
