2.0⭐️ I was really excited to start this book. I was undaunted by the 680 pages, so long as it kept me fully engaged—and it did do that. The amnesia plotline, one of my favorite themes, and the story arcs are interesting.
Unfortunately, there are far too many secondary characters introduced, and they each have their own stories to tell. Accordingly, I presuppose that such a tremendous undertaking requires even more continuity and seamless transitions of character and story arcs that weave all these elements together.
In this case, however, there are incomplete stories, confusing stories and stories for which neither a nexus is drawn nor the critical origins of particular arcs are established. In my opinion, those missing elements of the book are imperative. Notwithstanding, there are a few intriguing pivotal characters and concomitant events that captivated me, and I waited to learn more. To my dismay, these aspects of the book in particular are left dangling and are inexplicably missing.
In all, amid the morass, this book produced some very memorable characters, including the most depraved and evil villains. Moreover, the book is enjoyable and full of suspense, but the flaws are too numerous, including editing issues. I know this book was published some years ago; however, I really think here lies a gem waiting to emerge, after reworking all of the broken parts. Hmmm, something to think about?
