Pure & Sinful

Rate this book
APPROPRIATE FOR MATURE READERS ONLY.

When it turns out your ex was actually a sexy demon sent by the devil to seduce you to evil, you'd think the next guy, no matter what he's like, couldn't be a worse decision. Enter Father Marc Angeletti, a smooth talking piece of forbidden fruit with onyx eyes and a razor wit, and Riona Dade may as well start packing her luggage for damnation now. But come Hell or... well, Hell, Marc, Riona, and demigod Dee Zitka have a mission: serve as a Pure Soul and vanquish Lucifer's minion scum from the face of the Earth to protect humanity from evil.

Oh, and don't get seduced into sin yourself, because a fallen Pure Soul is one of Lucifer's biggest thrills. As long as Riona and Marc can keep things professional and north of the sheets, no problem, right?

Yeah, that worked out great in the Thornbirds, too...

Killian McRae would tell you that she is a rather boring lass, an authoress whose characters’ lives are so much more exciting than her own. She would be right. Sadly, this sarcastic lexophile leads a rather mundane existence in the San Francisco Bay Area. She once dreamed of being the female Indiana Jones, and to that end she earned a degree in Middle Eastern History from the University of Michigan. However, when she learned that real archaeologists spend more time lovingly removing dust with toothbrushes from shards of pottery than outrunning intriguing villains with exotic accents, she decided to become a writer instead. She writes across many genres, including science fiction, fantasy, romance, and historical fiction.

How can Satan bring two Pure Souls (the priest and the powerful evil-fighting witch) into Hell? He leads them into temptation...

Pure & Sinful was my first book by Killian McRae and I was pleasantly surprised. This paranormal story made definitely very original, exciting and thrilling read for me. Pure & Sinful offers a mixture of witches, Greek mythology, religion, archangels, Satan and his demons. And this mixture really worked for me. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book. I could not put it down and I cannot wait for sequel since ending did not satisfy me at all.

I absolutely love stories about forbidden love and well known saying „the forbidden fruit tastes the sweetest“ was proven again in this book. I liked most of the characters, they were unique and perfectly depicted. But I could not connect with them completely, especially with Riona. I did not like about her the fact that she had strong romantic feelings for more than one person at the same time. It made her look quite un-respect-worthy in my eyes. On the other side, I really liked Father Marcello Angelatti. Even though he could be really sarcastic, he was very interesting character and he always put needs of other people beyond his own. Overall, story has various unexpected twists and I am really curious how things will develop in second book.

Author used descriptive style of writing with various original (and sometimes even funny) adjectives which were never over-the-top. I really enjoyed this book and I would like to share with you some of the most interesting quotes:

“It is sin to feel powerless despite your own abilities. God hates it when he gives you all the tools to accomplish a job, but all you do is focus on how hard the work is so you never get started.”

And another one with description of God:
“The one you are reffering to is more a silent partner. He provides the capital: the Earth and the heavens and air, than leaves it up to all of us smaller folks to pilot and ride.”

Read this and other reviews at Madison Says.

This was my first experience with a paranormal novel. Or at least the first in a very long time. I have always loved paranormal existence (hello, big Buffy and even bigger Charmed fan) and the synopsis had me very intrigued. This book far surpassed my expectations and for that, I’m super grateful to have been given the opportunity to read an advanced copy!

I must first say that Ms. McRae knows how to write. So fantastically, at that. There’s the perfect mix of wit, humor, and STEAM! Hello, hot demons (loved Jerry right away!). Hello, hot priest? Wait, what?! Yep, you heard it – hot priest. And smoking chemistry between our main chick, Riona and hot priest, Marcello (Marc). Love the push and pull of their relationship and the evolution it takes. Gloriously well done…but with a twist. Shit, there were twists. I caught on to quite a few early on, but there were also a couple things that I anticipated happening that didn’t. So good work to Killian for keeping me on my toes! Back to the wit – there’s some freaking hilarious moments in here. I loved the mix of heavy and light. Case in point:

God also gave hurricanes, earthquakes, plagues and humans the ability to create disco. Clearly, the theory that all His gifts were good was one cup size short of a Kardashian.

The characters are so well developed and I loved them all. You were able to connect with them individually but also connect with the relationships they had with one another. I loved that every relationship was unique. This was not a cookie cutter type of story at all. I will say, though, that it does suck you in, immediately, and then keeps your attention through all the fast paced action and drama and lust, and at the end, you’re left scratching your head and wishing you had the next book to see where the hell (for real), this was all going to go! I don’t want to go into the actual story too much, because it’s not my style. I think books should be experienced firsthand by the reader so you can form your own opinions. I just simply like to share my highlights and hope to encourage you to read books I’ve loved. This is definitely one of them. So much.

I give this book 4.5 stars and recommend to anyone looking for a fast-paced, well-developed paranormal story with all the great boxes checked: brilliant storyline, witty writing and enough passion and steam to choke a horse…er Lucifer. I am so grateful for the opportunity to read this in advance for Killian and have extremely high expectations for the other two books in this trilogy! I cannot wait to see what happens next because it really was just the perfect ending. You’re left satisfied…but still wanting more. That’s perfection right there.

The book had me at the first line...
A priest, a witch and a demigod walk into a bar. No joke.

... and kept me engrossed until the very end.
With that witty opening line, we are thrown right into the action. Meet the Pure Souls, a demon hunting motley crew of three chosen paranormal beings - witch Riona Dade and her 'pillars', Father (and Wiccan) Marcello 'Marc' Angeletti and demigod Dee - whose today's mission it is to send Riona's deceitful ex-boyfriend, demon Jerry, back to hell. What the three of them don't know is that the Devil himself has taken a great interest in powerful Riona and is intent on making her one of his servants. What better way to claim her soul than to make her a sinner by leading her into temptation?

When I read the title and the synopsis, I thought I was going to get a story with more... let's call it 'adult content'. I couldn't have been more wrong. Though this is a typical Paranormal Romance that, first and foremost, deals with cardinal sins and temptation, and that does contain some sizzling chemistry, it is rather tame in comparison to other books I've read.

I was intrigued by the concept. I'm a sucker for demons and angels anyway, so I was practically a goner from the start. Angels, demons, gods, demigods, witches, Lucifer... what more is there to wish for?
The characters were well-developed and interesting, the story was elaborate and well-paced, the writing was funny and sarcastic. And the ending full of twists and turns and action.
God also gave hurricanes, earthquakes, plagues, and humans the ability to create disco. Clearly, the theory that all His gifts were good was one cup size short of a Kardashian.

Here's the reason, though, why I absolutely cannot give this book 5 stars: similes. Oh my God, all those terrible similes. Too many, too silly, too damn annoying!
There, the dull ache [...] still nagged with the tenacity of a Jewish mother telling her son to find a good temple-going girl and marry already.

"And let me guess: Gaius fell? - "Like a senior citizen for the Nigerian lottery scam," he confirmed.

The bald-headed behemoth stocked more ink on this arms than an industrial-sized printing press.

Despite thrashing more than an Amish man on harvest day, the ugly brute was making no gain against the goddess's superhuman biceps.

Marc, out of breath and confused, shriveled like a head of lettuce under a hot light when he caught himself in Dee's glare.

When he made out the visage of the woman, her profile holding more curves than a one-lane road through the alps, [...]

The iron-barred lattice groaned like an octogenarian at a Katy Perry concert as it swung open.

... and sooooooo many more. I swear, if I have to read one more simile today, or even this year, I'm going to lose it. I guess this is supposed to be funny or something, but at some point, I couldn't take any more. I just couldn't.

This book had me from the title! Can you be pure & sinful? Killian McRae did a great job of bringing her characters to life as supernatural beings with over the top personalities and 'issues.'

Riona Dade, a witch, is the new leader of a trio of warriors fighting against Satan called the Pure Souls. Poor girl, talk about on-the-job training, while going from thinking she is batsh*t crazy to finding out she has special 'powers' instead! Her 'pillars' or support team members are Dee, who is a Demi-god and Marc, a priest. Together they fight the evil minions of Hades, while always taking time out for spicy banter!

The Pure Souls are supposed to help humanity fight against the temptations of the devil. The rules seem to be that if you feel its wrong, it must be, so don't do it. That said, Riona is attracted to Marc. Marc is fighting his attraction to Riona, he has taken a vow of celibacy, but what constitutes celibacy? Is there a way they can be together without sinning?

Lucifer wants Riona and has devised an evil plot to trick Marc into breaking his vows, Knowing that Riona will do anything to save his soul, including giving hers up. Will she be in time to save Marc? What price will be paid?

Often throughout this fast-paced plot, the assumed lines of right and 'sinful' if you will, are blurred, sex seems to be an often lusted after topic, how far is too far? Does it matter if it is with a man or woman or two or more 'participants'? The quips back and forth between characters are often comical, sometimes overdone, a couple of times I rolled my eyes, so I guess I was paying attention and being involved in the story! When push came to shove, everyone stepped up to the plate and played their parts well. And, I have to say, Jerry was pretty cool, for a supposedly heartless an evil demon!

This copy was provided by NetGalley and Tulipe Noire Press in exchange for my honest review.

I received this book as a ARC for a upcoming blog tour, but since I didn’t sign up for a ARC I wasn’t sure if I would read it. But of course I can’t say no to a book without at least taking a peak.
So when I opened it and saw the first paragraph was “A priest, a witch and a demigod walk into a bar. No joke” I thought this could be an interesting read.

“A priest, a witch and a demigod walk in to a bar.”
“No joke.”

Witches, Satan, Priest, Demigods, and Archangels…..OH MY!!

Welcome to the world of paranormal where pretty much anything goes! I forgot how much I really enjoy this genre. Pure & Sinful is my first book by Killian McRae and I will definitely be picking up the next book in the series. Her writing style is witty and definitely keeps you hook. I found myself chuckling and highlighting through most of this book. No one lacks for sarcastic comebacks and great sense of humor.

“What can I say?” “Once you go demon, it’s them that you’re needin’.”

It was a quick fun read. The characters were well developed and they had some yummy chemistry. Sometimes it got a little heavy in the religious talk, leaving me to skim those parts a little. Even though I am not a very religious person, I still found it to be a very enjoyable read.

In the opening of the book, we meet Riona, our heroine, Pure Soul and witch to boot. I liked her. She was sassy, she kick butt and asked questions later. Riona is bisexual and involved in a love triangle. Jerry the demon wants Riona and while she finds him hot and the sex even hotter, she is in love with the one man she cannot have. That man would be our very own sexy as sin priest, Marc who also happens to be a Pure Soul. Unfortunately, for Riona she cannot have him, as it would throw the whole balance off and send Marc’s soul to Lucifer. All the men in Riona’s life have felt like this at one point or other…..

“Oh, you are the single most frustrating, fucking witch I ever….”

Our unusual hero as mentioned above is sexy as sin priest Marc, who by the way is also very sarcastic and does not treat Riona with anything other than sarcasm through most of the book. He has to stay away from the love of his life without her catching on lest he lose his soul to the devil. In addition, if the devil has control over a Pure Soul he will wreak havoc to the like that has never been seen before. Marc is not just a priest however he is also a witch and demon slayer.

Lucifer wants Riona; he wants her soul and is willing to do stop at nothing to get it. With her, he would have absolute control.

“Yeah, Lucifer wants that hella lot, and who could blame him?”

One of the other things I loved about this book was that it held its own without an overabundance of detailed sexual scenes. Now, do not get me wrong there is sexual tension and sexual chemistry and you will feel it. I just love when the books plot is front and center and sex is not used to tell it but as an added enticement.

The last chapter was hard for me as someone makes that all-important sacrifice. When you grow to connect with your characters, it is sad when it does not end the way you hope it will, BUT I am holding out for hope in book 2.

“If she thought her heart was broken before, she was utterly and entirely wrong.”

I was pulled into this book from the very first sentence! What an excellent start for any book, a laugh, and there was plenty more along the way. There’s a touch of F/F action in here, but nothing that intense. It’s actually a very sensual touch that gives off the feeling of giving in to temptation. Lots of fun, excitement, action, adventure and much more to be had within these pages; any paranormal reader out there will love Pure & Sinful!

Riona is a beautiful, smart and powerful woman that has been through a lot of odd, awkward and frightening experiences before finding out where she belongs. Finding out her super sexy ex was a demon sent to seduce her out of her light for the devil was just the icing on the cake. Partnered with two other pure souls, they embark on many missions’ to help rid the earth of evil.

Temptation, love and sex are the main uses evil has in its arsenal to try and bring pure souls to its side. When it’s learned that Riona has true love for another pure soul, all hell breaks loose (well an important part of hell comes forth) to get the devil’s own mission accomplished. You see, the devil REALLY wants Riona’s soul and is using his full arsenal to bait and trap Riona and the one she loves so he can bring them both back with him to the depths of hell, forever.

The thing I loved most about this book is there was not one single predictable thing that occurred. Everything was a surprise or a shock and I love surprises :)

When I saw this book on Netgalley, I didn't realize who the author was. If I had, I might not have requested it, and would have missed out on an actually very interesting book.

The author combines themes of heaven and hell, good and evil with witchcraft and forces beyond human knowledge to craft an book that is full of action and romance, yet also delivers a few great messages.

She doesn't shy away from sacrificing her characters, if need be, so bring your tissues as well. The characters are nicely developed, and there is plenty of snarky dialogue that had me giggling and laughing out loud on numerous occasions. Yet, there are also deep emotions and very human struggles, as well as reminders that not everything is black and white, and that something inherently evil might still have a bit of good inside.

Not bad, Ms. McRae. Not bad at all.

I received a free ARC from the publisher via Netgalley. A positive review was not promised in return.

DNF @ 30%

Wish this author and series the very best, but this was just not for me. I think the book tries to have a sense of humor about itself, which is great! Except that I can't really connect with its type of humor. A lot of references to stereotypes (example: a comparison to a nagging Jewish mom and a weird dig at Democrats) and severely outdated references (it's been a while since I've come across a "whatchu talkin' 'bout, Willis" reference, a show that was cancelled 4 years before I was even born and I only know of because this catchphrase was a meme before memes). Everything's overly sexual with everyone being perpetually horny, which is not a trope I enjoy. This type of thing tends to bypass adult and cross over to juvenile very quickly. I didn't include this in my the-smut-and-the-furious shelf because I have no idea whether or not there is actually smut in this, but I feel for such an overly sexualized book, someone should've already gotten laid at 30%, right?

I haven't been this excited about a book in a long while. Pure & Sinful is clever, new, and a total breath of fresh air. As Killian's critique partner, I feel so very lucky to have been able to read this story early on.

Killian weaves a tale that is witty and angsty at the same time—and hawt. Did I mention the story was HAWT? The chemistry and tension between Riona and Marcello is off-the-charts. As is the chemistry between her and one of the Big Bad's minions (who, btw, I totally fell for from like the very first page.)

The characters are well-crafted, will pull you in from the get go, and make you want to turn the page. Love, love, love this story!

If you're looking for a fast-paced paranormal romance with great characters that isn't a carbon copy of everything else that's already out there, then this book is for you. Highly recommend.

Killian McRae, You did it again.
I'd give this wonderful ARC from Netgalley a major 100 on 5 seriously!Okay okay 5 stars for this RIVETING, MAGICAL, FUNNy, BRILLIANT, SMART, SENSUAL andi dont care who doesnt agree, ORIGINAL work.
Killian took a an over worked and pathetically repeated, never satisfying, always lame TOPIC and knocked this ball beyond the ball park.
Im sure there will be professional reviewers who can accurately and poetically give you a run down of the characters, the deal with these characters, and the paths they walk, run, and skidaddle.
I'm just going to try and convince you guys that if y ou dont read this you are a LOOSER!
Maybe when i get off this high ill be able to coherently write what i loved abou this book! see you later.

Oh, how I loved this book...let me count some of the ways:

1. The feel of the trio of Pure Souls reminded me of classic Buffy, Xander, & Willow...funny, energetic banter with just the right amount of sarcasm.

2. Forbidden fruit sexual attraction and tension that would make Meg & Father de Bricassart blush.

3. Jerry the Demon likes Zimas and he's awesome.

4. Angels, Lucifer, and religious loopholes, oh my!

5. Marc...sigh. Gotta love a tortured soul, but a tortured soul in a priest's collar makes it all the more interesting.

6. Kick ass heroine!!!

7. And last but not least, great cliffhanger!

Bring on Part 2...can't wait:)

What a fantastic read!

I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this one. Honestly, the idea of a romance with a hot priest sounded a little bit cheesy to me. Boy, was I wrong! This book is clever and funny, has a great plot that moves along nicely, has an interesting cast of characters and I did not want to put it down.

Right from the beginning this book was immensely entertaining. The first line in the book?

A priest, a witch and a demigod walk into a bar.

No joke.

What an opening line. And it only gets better from there. The descriptions in this book are hilarious and I can only imagine that the author keeps a notebook full of obscure and witty metaphors at the ready while writing. This one made me laugh out loud:

God also gave hurricanes, earthquakes, plagues, and humans the ability to create disco. Clearly, the theory that all His gifts were good was one cup size short of a Kardashian.

The premise of this book is something completely original to me. I've read about angels and demons before, but nothing like this. Pure Souls are basically Gods warriors that protect the earth from Lucifer and his demons. Heaven and Hell and all their players (demons, angels, Lucifer, God, etc) are a big part of the world-building here but so, too, are Mount Olympus and characters from Greek mythology. One would think that these two belief systems are mutually exclusive but not so! The ideas of free-will and personal morality are dealt with in a way that ties everything together pretty seamlessly.

The characters here are amazing. Each and every one, from the three main characters to Jerry the demon, has their own unique personality in this book. There are no stereotypes. They are each strong in their own ways and yet flawed. They each have unique characteristics and really read like real people, albeit people in much more extreme situations than you or I.

The plot moves along at a great pace. There's action and then some "down time" where things are explained and the plot is advanced. I was never bored and, in fact, found it very hard to put this one down. The plotline seemed original and I was never quite sure what was going to happen next. All to often I find that I can predict what's going to happen next. Not here. I was pleasantly entertained throughout and had to keep reading to find out what was going to happen next.

Much is made of the romance between Riona and Marc (the priest) and there are even notes on this book's description that it is for mature adults only. I don't want that to scare you away! While their attraction to each other is a major plot point here, this is not erotica. Yes, there are some steamy scenes. Yes, they are of an adult nature. BUT, they are not every other page and they are not sleezy scenes. This is not a book of sex linked with a few scenes of plot. I was happy to find that it is quite the other way around.

Overall, I would recommend this to anyone looking for an original voice, and especially fans of Paranormal and Paranormal Romance. I am eagerly awaiting the next book in the series!

Review by Ollie for bittenbyparanormalromance

First off I have to say the beginning of the book had me laughing out loud as the author demonstrates her sense of humour by starting off with the line "a priest, a witch and a demigod walk into a bar." Right off the bat I knew this was going to be a different paranormal book and it was.

I was instantly drawn to the idea of a tough, alpha, sexy priest fighting beside a witch and a demigod against the forces of evil and Satan himself. The thing I kept wondering was how long would it take before temptation would grip Riona and Marc and lead them to their fall. Oh and I cannot forget the deliciously handsome and talented demon Jerry thrown into the mix. There were times I didn't know who I wanted Riona to end up with, but she too didn't know which she desired more.

The only thing that bothered me about the story was Riona herself. She would state that she had the hots for one person and in the next scene she is getting hot and heavy with someone else, whether it was with the priest, Jerry the demon or her sexy female neighbour. She would state her deep feelings for someone and in the next breath her libido is in overdrive and she is making out with someone else. I just didn't feel her feelings were sincere or strongly developed.

The story had lots happening in terms of the twists and turns that occurred and despite my feelings for Riona I really want to know what is going to happening next and who is going to win her heart. Unfortunately the ending leaves the reader with a slight cliffhanger where you feel like saying "oh you can't leave me wondering like this" but it does. With Satan playing a game and pulling strings to lead himself to the ultimate victory, I personally can't wait to see what happens in book 2 and how Riona will face off with him.

I highly recommend this book to paranormal romance fans who enjoy snarky comments, humourous lines and cliches and most of all delicious hunks who would sacrifice everything, even their own lives, to prove their love for the woman that sets them of fire.

Read other book reviews at Book Junkie Joint.

Sassy heroine? Check. Sarcastic male lead? Check. Other-worldly plot? Check. Witty dialogues? Check. Plethora of puns and wisecracks? Definitely check!

I’ve always loved reading witty banters and sarcastic wisecracks. Let’s just say that this book has caught my tickle spot and has made me look like a loony by making me chuckle at odd intervals while I was inside a very public and very crowded café. And no, I do not do that often. Well, in public that is.

I expected this book to be an erotica because of the title and the brief synopsis. Don’t ask why. I just assumed. So imagine the surprise I got when I started reading the book and discovered that it was more than what I thought it would be! And let me just say that the surprise was the pleasant kind.

The best thing about this book? Definitely the jarring puns! I just love the deprecating humor used in this novel, coupled with innuendos and references! The humorous puns range from Captain Kirk of Star Trek, to the cup-size of a Kardashian, even up to Adam Lambert and Lady Gaga!

The characters are all endearing in their own ways, too. You just don’t see a witch, a priest and a demi-god joining forces to fight demons everyday! And one other character worthy of mention is Jerry because he’s one cunning bastard. That is all I have to say about the characters because I’m afraid that I might give any spoilers.

If I could describe this novel in one catch-all sentence, I would say that this is like an R-18 version of Charmed meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer on crack. Basically, it’s the Charmed’s triumvirate combined with Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s kick-ass heroine, plus the complicated love line.

Would I want to read this novel again? Definitely! Would I watch out for the next installment if there is one? Abso-fucking-lutely! I highly recommend this book to readers who would like a chuckle or two, and who appreciate unbridled sarcasm from smartass characters.

4.5 STARS!!!

This took me a minute to get into....but it was so worth it!! It is such a page turner. I am a mathematician so I thought it was so cool that Riona is a Statistician by day but the Keystone by night. The Keystone is a magical being that draws from her pillars. Her pillars are two hot guys!! One is a demi-god, son of Zeus, named Dee. The other pillar is an untouchable priest, Marc.

So you go through the book learning about their relationships, enjoying them vanquish demons, and being entertained by their wittiness.

When Riona vanquished her first demon..the demon knew he was her first...

"Because you're making small talk. I'm not Oprah, sweetheart. Despite what you've seen in every Joss Whedon fantasy, we're not exactly speechifying type."

I "heart" Joss Whedon!!

One of the most entertaining characters is Jerry, a demon that actually had a relationship with Riona and is in love with her. He is so witty and wants Riona desperately...

"It's our wedding, darling. Don't your remember? An alter? A sacrifice? Something borrowed, something blue? Something bloody, something new?"

I would LOL during his scenes. One of my favorite scenes was Riona as a substitute teacher...I am a math teacher so I was so entertained!!

"Riona once heard that you shouldn't show fear to either dogs or children. Apparently, they could sense it. Or was it, smell it?"

The book is full of one liners! It is awesome.

It has it sad moments though...

Lucifer wants Riona to become evil! So he needs her to fall into temptation. Marc and Riona fall in love with each other. However, they could never be with each other physically because that would be a carnal sin. Lucifer does everything in his power to tempt them both towards each other. The ending is soooo sad and shocking and leaves you wanting the next book!!!

This is a truly fun romp on the sexy side of demon hunter drama. It has all the sensual sizzle of some of it's more hard core counterparts; but just enough camp and humor to let you know that at least a few of the players involved don't take themselves too seriously/
It seems that Riona just can't catch a break, whether it be in love or at work. Torn as she is between having to kill her demon of an ex, and trying not to seduce her "holier than thou" priest partner. There is just no letting up on our girl.
I mean it's kind of hard to be good when so many people and demons are making it sooooo easy to be bad.
When you also consider the fact that the baddest game in town, one Lucifer himself, has a stake in the game for her soul, you just know that things are bound to get a little "down and dirty".

There are a lot of sexual "near misses" in this story. They happen so much that after a while you just begin to expect them; but given the fact that sex is used as the foil for the protagonists of the story, you just have to go with it.
It seems that Miss Riona Dade could teach Aphrodite a thing or twelve about sexual chemistry; as she seems to have enough to keep everyone in the story in thrall. It is shocking that she shows as much restraint as she does, which only seems to add to the camp/tongue and cheek tone of this read.

"A Pure Soul...agent of the light
that drips sex the way that a leaky faucet
drips water!"

PRICELESS...

Don't worry there is more than innuendo and camp to this racy little read. Before the story ends there is a "devil of a plot twist" this you will have to read to believe.
This is a "for the fun of it" read that is sure to warm more than your heart and make you laugh out loud.

What a great beginning to a series. I loved this - and this is coming from someone who is pretty hesitant when it comes to paranormal books.

The characters in the book are so wonderful. Dee, Marc, and Riona make quite the trio. Each has his or her own personality - complete with quirks and flaws. And, of course, Marc's flaw was my favorite. Talk about a sexy, outspoken priest. His edgy personality is to die for - and who doesn't love a bit of a corrupt Catholic?

Even the secondary characters have some rockin' personalities - Ramiel is hilarious, studly, and just the right amount of sarcastic asshole. And Jerry is a mystery up until the end.

Not to mention, the book is wonderfully written. Aside from a few editing errors, the plot flowed nicely. Plus McRae had an endless array of comical metaphors and analogies that had me laughing out loud. I absolutely loved the light-hearted writing. Juxtaposed with such a serious and edgy plot, the bits of humor are just refreshing.

While I completely recommend this book to anyone who loves a little corruption, some demon hunting, and hot characters, I do have to warn about the ending. It was definitely my least favorite thing about the book. The book was left hanging - clearly asking for a sequel - which I totally respect. However, I was still kind of confused. A lot happened in the last few pages, and I was a bit confused. But I think this bit of confusion and heartbreak just makes it more likely that I will read the sequel. So good marketing strategy there, McRae.

I will tell you like it is....
I received this book from a giveaway on Good Reads. The title and description led me to believe I would enjoy.
After receiving this book I dug in right away only to put it back down before finishing the first chapter. The writers style was not what I expected, and as we all know different is not bad, it is just different. I began reading another book and put this one off. And then found myself reading three more while this sat on my night stand. I would pick up again and again only getting through the first few chapters. But somewhere in procrastination I found myself enjoying the characters, their wit and charm. The story kind of sucked me in when I was not paying attention and before I knew it I COULD Not put this book back down. I was so wrapped up I found myself yelling out loud several times " No don't do it" or my personal favorite " For the love of God! " and then it all ended to soon leaving me wanting more.... So here I am searching for the next book Once You Go Demon.
I assure you the next one will not sit on my night stand for any amount of time....

Full of twists, turns and humor, Pure and Sinful hooked me in at the first page and rarely loosened its grip. Combining angels, demons, priests and humans, adding a touch of F/F sexual activity and plenty of other steamy sexual and sensual scenes, top it all with snark and a compelling series of events and you have scratched the surface of this book.

Each new character is introduced and presented with their own level of personality intact, humor laced with sarcasm and envisioned eyerolls draw the reader in to a world that is both easy to imagine and enjoy. Even secondary characters are well developed and serve the plot in a myriad of twists and false starts to the ultimate conclusion of…a cliffhanger. Reading this book will most certainly entertain, the cliffhanger will have you chomping at the bit for the next installment. I only hope it is already in the works!

I received an eBook copy from the author for purpose of review for Jeep Diva. I was not compensated for this review, and all conclusions are my own responsibility.

The battle between good and evil goes on.

Pure bloods, are fighting against lucifer's demons which are sent to earth to corrupt souls.

Characthers

Dee is a demigod, and is a man with bronzed well built body.
Riona is a witch with powers
Marc is a priest and Wiccan

Ramiel is an angel and sexy as hell and he knows it!
Jerry is riona ex boyfriend, who turns out to be a demon.......

The story starts all action packed, with riona having to despatch her ex back to hell. This book takes you on one hell of a ride, some twists you may guess others I doubt you will. Marc and riona are so attracted to each other , but his a priest so can never be. So they go on dispatching demons fighting there growing attraction.

The sexual tension is so hot, characthers are great and is well written and captivating read.

The story is much more than that and don't want to spoil it, but what an ending, didn't see that coming!

Still no date on book 2, but it's on my list .

A priest, a demigod, and a Pure Soul walk into a bar....

Seriously, they do! And they do a whole lot more. I wasn't expecting to like this book. This isn't my preferred genre. However, like most times, I am pleased I stepped out of my norm of reading and have been pleased. Riona, a take no prisoners, kick-ass spitfire. Marc a hot priest and wiccan, and Dee the god of demigods. The trio embark on their missions of vanquishing the evil doers of Lucifer. Temptation is around them. Riona and Marc do their best to avoid the temptations on sin that could not only damn them but damn the Earth itself. They are torn between love and acting on that love. This book is well written. A little witty. And a lot of lust.... not sex.... lust. If you are looking for something a little different from the same old love story, this is the book for you.... and yes there is a cliffhanger to keep you wanting just a little bit more.

Killian, I’m standing here furiously clapping hands!! You did it again, girl! Keep writing as you do and keep them coming, you have a gift telling any kind of story!

I’m not a paranormal kinda girl, but this book is divine and had me from the first sentence. "A priest, a witch and a demigod walk into a bar. No joke." I knew from this page on I would love this story. Meet Riona, Marc, Dee, God, angels and everyone that could help protect the earth from Lucifer and his demons. I can’t say much more because I tend to give spoilers and I promised myself I wouldn’t do that anymore.

Stop what you’re doing right now and go read about witches, Satan, the priest, demigods, and archangels! You won’t make a mistake since this is an original, witty and funny read that everyone should read!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this brilliant book. I’m dying to read the others!!!

I really enjoyed the characters in this books - the (demi)gods, witch and wiccan, archangel, lucifer etc..
It was so entertaining to watch their relationships unfold, their characters develop and to get to know each of their backstories throughout.

I think what made it such an entertaining read was the writing style of Killian McRae. It had everything a good read needs (in my opinion): it was fresh, sarcastic at times, and the pace matched the story so well, I never felt anything like a slow point while reading.

Without giving anything away from the story, I must say that I especially liked how it all turned out in the end, with little twists here and there throughout the story, I felt satisfied and content with how it ended!

I love the heroine, the men are delicious, the dialogue funny and entertaining and though the smexy is sparse, the steam factor was hot enough to get me breathing shallow from anticipation. But who am I kidding, the men made the book for me! Each of them are their own person, nobody faded in the background, each had their own quirks heck, we even get to play with Ramiel and Lucifer a bit and their bits were funny similar to that of Castiel in Supernatural when Dean is corrupting him with porn and burgers. Bottom line is PURE & SIMPLE was lewd and sexy but it wasn't cheap. It was awesome!

Disclosure: This ebook was provided to me free of charge through NetGalley for the sole purpose of an honest review. All thoughts, comments, and ratings are my own.

Really interesting tale that had my attention the whole time. The pace was wonderful and the characters engaging. Great dynamic in the relationship that made it very believable. Beautiful storytelling that entertained the whole time!

It had really great flow and did the job of making me think at times. I love a book that taps into my emotions. I am a real sucker for a sexy romance!! I laugh, I cry and I wish the hero were real so he could be mine! LOL

I would love to see more from this author! Definitely one to watch in the future.

Hmmmm..not sure what to make of this book. I can say I liked it, so 3 stars.

It's a very busy book -- there is a large cast of characters, and they're mostly all paranormal: angels, demons, gods, witches. They're also very mobile -- constantly moving between 'realms' which means the reader has to pay attention!! Riona, the witch, and Fr. Marc fall for each other, which enables Lucifer to go after their souls.

Riona is an entertaining heroine. She's smart and independent and very likeable. However, I found Fr. Marc a more compelling character. He has more difficult choices to make (on many levels), so is more layered and more interesting. However, although their relationship is very sweet and warm, you're wishing for a HEA that just isn't in the cards.

I found the beginning of this book to be a little confusing because it throws you right into an action scene without introducing any of the characters. Therefore, it was hard to follow who was doing what and why in the first few pages. I kept reading, though, and am glad I did. This book was pure fun. It is not a literary classic in the making, but it was enjoyable and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone who likes this genre. I would not recommend it to anyone who would be uncomfortable reading about a priest who is seriously tempted (no, really...seriously) to break his vows. I will be looking for the sequel to this one!

It has been a while since I have read a paranormal read.
I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy this but I miss paranormal from time to time and sometimes you find stories that can be just a little too cheesy and this one was really good.
I was pulled in and wanted to know where things were going to go and although I thought I knew where things were going there were a few moments that I wasn't 100% sure and had to just keep reading.

That ending though, I was not expecting that one. I was a bit surprised. I will more than likely read the next. :)
