Vanessa had it all: handsome husband, two beautiful children, a lovely home, and a successful career. She was living the dream life she and her friends fantasized about as girls over hot fudge sundaes…but was it the life she really wanted?
Leaving the life she knew behind was difficult enough, but when Vanessa’s attempt at love with someone from her past falls apart, her well-meaning friends decide an intervention is in order. Dating for a single mother is harder than it seems and they quickly discover the dating pool has become a puddle, with each blind date being crazier than the one before.
Can Vanessa find the love she deserves? Or has she given up the best thing she ever had?
Lynn Ricci is a hopeless romantic at heart, so it's no surprise that she writes romance novels about love, friendship, and happily ever afters. Lynn lives in Massachusetts, and when she is not writing for business or pleasure, she can be found painting or reading on the closest beach.
Lynn Ricci's newest novel, Matchless, is due out in Fall 2025. She is the author of Chasing Yesterday, a contemporary romance with a touch of fantasy or mystical elements, released in 2025. Her other novels are The Dating Intervention, a contemporary romance, followed by Cursed, a paranormal romance.
This was a cute and fun read! The dating fiascos make me glad I’m married! Friendship and the nod to what real life can throw you were well represented in this age gap, second chance, forbidden romance. I would recommend if you want a lighthearted and well written love story.
The Dating Intervention by Lynn Ricci follows Vanessa. As the story begins, you see that Vanessa has it all: a wonderful home filled with a loving husband and two great kiddos, a successful career and a great group of girlfriends. But that all changes when she learns of her husbands affair and wonders what to do next. Is this truly what life has in store for her? She realizes that she wants to be happy and leaves her picture perfect life with him behind and enters into the post-divorce, post-40 dating world. What she finds is one hopeless blind date followed by another. Will she ever be able to live a life that makes her happy? Or will she regret her decisions and go running back to the world that she once knew?
When I first started reading The Dating Intervention, I was quite impressed. Lynn is a debut author and I love seeing all of that hard work come together for someone for the first time. The beginning of the book was strong and I really felt for Vanessa early on. I think all of us have struggled with a less than stellar life at one point in time, but I can tell that she really struggles and is in dire need of a change. So, I was honestly glad when she left her world behind to start fresh, but knowing what I know about the dating scene for people over 40 after a divorce, I know that it isn’t pretty and can be quite exhausting. Heck, when isn’t dating exhausting? I found her blind dates to be hilarious but often times very sad. I felt for Vanessa through most of the book and found myself really rooting for her to figure it all out and come out on top at the end. My only complaints are the time hopping throughout the book. I think Lynn could have found a more seamless way to incorporate the back story, but I definitely give her kudos for attempting something that even well established authors struggle with. Overall, a strong debut and I definitely look forward to reading more from Lynn in the future.
This book chronicles the story of Vanessa, a beautiful and successful business professional in the Boston area, as she copes with the trials of being a single mother venturing into the dating world again with the help of some loving but sometimes pushy female friends. Recently divorced, Vanessa seems to be managing well enough with her career and family. However, her friends think her life needs some spicing up, and they stage an "intervention" with her to get her back into the dating scene. Several blind dates ensue, with the results being humorous, horrible, and saddening. Will the romance Vanessa one had ever enter her life again?
I'm sorry to say that I didn't like Vanessa at first. It seemed like too much "poor her" at times for a woman living a well-to-do life that many others would envy. Becoming upset that aging caused her body parts to shift around in her size two frame? Puh-lease! As the novel progressed, however, I came to see Vanessa as a more well-rounded person, who cares deeply about her family and her friends, and wants what most of us want, to have a loving partner in life.
While her friends were trying to be helpful by wanting to get Vanessa to find love in others, what I came away with upon reading this novel was that Vanessa comes into her own and finally finds love in herself.
I just finished the book this morning and LOVED it! It was so much fun, and I got completely attached to the characters. I was pulling for Vanessa throughout, annoyed at her friends, etc., and being from the Boston area I really loved the attention to detail for the familiar places. You feel like you are there in every "scene." At first, the flipping back in time from the present was throwing me a bit, but once I got used to the pace, I actually liked it - it made me look forward to getting back to the present, or back to the past, with each switch. This is a perfect book for vacation or general reading to take your mind off things.
I'm looking forward to getting started on her next book!
Good breezy read! Vanessa is a strong, independent woman who took great care of her life's responsibilities. She makes me want to stop complaining about my situation and do something to follow my own dreams.
Lynn Ricci wrote an touching book that takes you through many emotions.
Vanessa discovered her husband had cheated again. She had enough and divorced him. After her divorce she sought out a prior intern she had previously worked with. Naseem was a handsome foreigner, and years younger than her.
They dated as uncommitted partners. His parents pressured him to look for a job closer to home. He missed his family and sought job opportunities overseas. He made a decision to take a job in London once he completed his MBA in a few months. Vanessa was devastated but continued to spend the remaining time with him.
Months after Naseem’s departure her friends decided that she needed to find someone to share her life with. They setup many blind dates which were all disasters. Vanessa would never be able to find another man that compared to Naseem. Will Vanessa settle for less and find true love again?
I loved this book where where we can relate being a divorced mother with a career and trying to date. It was fun reading and relating to key sections of the book with getting mirror images or attached to the characters. I'm from Boston, so I liked the familiarity of the different places throughout the book. It is a must read if you can relate to being divorced, single mom and out there trying to date with friends, family and relationships.
This was an interesting book. It took me back to the time I found out the same things about my ex and the divorce. I admit to not getting back into the dating game. It is just too much hassle.
While I enjoyed the book, I have a few problems with the editing. Here is a sentence from the book: Christmas dinner became a big engagement celebration. The remainder of the trip was all about wedding plans. Everyone wanted a summer wedding accept her but what did that matter? The author used accept instead of except. The author explains everything in vivid detail. I personally feel that the book has too much detail.
While this book has lots of promise, I think it could be better if the author has a professional editor work on it.
216pgs, contemporary, she had it all: handsome husband, two beautiful children, a lovely home, and a successful career, but she leaves it all. the dating pool seems to be a puddle, Can Vanessa find the love she deserves? Or has she given up the best thing she ever had?
I liked the book mostly. I did not the back and forth from past to present without much of a warning other than the month. I did like the characters and I can understand friends like that.
