Time Tantrums

Rate this book
Previously published as Sisters in Time.

Mariah Cassidy awakens in the twentieth century. Confined in a pristine environment, hooked to tubes and beeping machines, she’s scared, confused and wondering why everyone keeps calling her Mrs. Morgan. Who is the strange man who keeps massaging her forehead and telling her everything is going to be all right?

Taylor Morgan tries to focus on her surroundings through a blinding headache. The patchwork quilt, the water basin, and the archaic room don’t strike a familiar chord. Her mouth gapes when a handsome man waltzes into the room, calls her darling, and expresses his delight that she’s on the road to recovery.

Clearly something is amiss.

Ginger Simpson grew up reading anything by Laura Ingalls Wilder and became so fascinated with western historical novels, they've remained her favorite for more years than she cares to admit.

In 2002, Ginger decided to attempt writing her own novel, and in 2003 her first offering, Prairie Peace, was published. Since then, she's dabbled in other genres but always seems to migrate back to her favorite historical era.

At the beginning, Ginger accepted contracts with e-publishers with the realization her work would not be offered in actual stores, rather made available for sale by download or ordering through Internet sites. At the time, the reward of acceptance was enough, and the prayer that downloadable books would grow in popularity seems to have come to pass. Ginger admits she's no spring chicken, and her final goal is to see at least one of her works available in an actual "brick and mortar" store just so she can nod when someone asks if Walmart sells her books.

She's often joked that she may have to sneak a book into Walmart and leave it on the shelf next to one of Nora Robert's novels, but that's not really how she'd like her next novel to get there. Besides, there's probably a law that prohibits such a deed. She's already worked in a jail, so she doesn't care to experience the other side of the bars. Note from Ginger (2011): I actually did "sneak" a book into Walmart and take a picture of it on the "best sellers" shelve. I have the photo to prove it. I got a few weird looks from nearby people, but I didn't get arrested or escorted from the store. *smile*)

Giving this one 4 stars for enjoyability. I have some reservations about my rating however: There are some word usage hiccups within the text, which threw me - whereas I don't usually find ebook typos bothersome. So those stuck out and sucked me out of the story.

Also, in the early build up phase of the story, after the critical event which caused the 'switch' to occur between the two main characters, a statement is made that thunder was heard and then a flash of lightening, implying that is the natural order of things which it is most definitely not! I have finished the book and this tiny thing still annoys me greatly.

On the other hand, it was a very enjoyable story with the main part of the story being about how Taylor and Mariah come to terms with who they are, where they are, and learn to change some of the shortcomings of who they were before the "accident" all to the betterment of themselves, and their relationships with those closest to them.

This characteristic of the storytelling overcame the annoyance of the thunder/lightening faux pas, for me. I really applaud the personal growth aspect, especially when it is done without any preachy 2x4 mechanisms.

There isn't much more action to the story than the two women deepening their own self development under trying circumstances, quite interesting circumstances at that. That's ok by me, but other readers might be looking for more action, twists, ups and downs along the story.

Another positive for me is that the side-dressing in the telling of this tale came in the juxtaposition of the two eras, modern day vs. late 19th Century Prairie life. Mariah who went forward in time, had more fun I think, and enjoyed the conveniences of modern life with relish. Taylor on the other hand, ended up cooking stew with Jalapeno relish thinking it was just green vegies in a jar :) (minor spoiler sorry).

Fun, light easy read, and enjoyable with the time-travel twist that I definitely like.

2.5 stars - pretty good. Two women separated in time, one a current day high powered attorney devoted to her career who barely has time for the husband she loves and another a prim and proper wife and mother living in days gone by who is uncomfortable with intimacy. When both women suffer a coma inducing accident in there own time the wake to find themselves in a body and a time not their own - and with a 'husband' who is just can't understand why his 'wife' can't remember him or the most basic things.

Time Tantrums (previous published as Sister in Time) alternates between the two woman, who are sure that aren't crazy remembering a completely different time and missing the husband that they love.It is pretty easy to see purpose behind this cosmic wife swap and the payoff for that is in the epilog. First I have to say both of the husbands are gems with what they put up with, but I did have a nit the thought process that allowed the lusty Taylor (the modern woman tossed in the past) to her "husband's charms" even though I understand the 'why' of it in terms of the story.

This was cute story, that I got free for Kindle.

I was given this book by the author in exchange for my honest review.

This was a rather unusual and unexpected time-travel novel, for I've never read anything close to the way the characters travelled the time in this book. That made the read fun and rather enjoyable.
