When murder suspect Cadence Jamison disguises herself as a boy and stows aboard the Heavenly Mistress Captain Curtis Langston may find his two past occasions for rescuing her more than he bargained for.
Bitter and Cynical after service in the Confederate Army, Curtis believes himself no more deserving of another’s love than capable of returning it. Content to drift through life free of emotional and therefore romantic complications the once carefree and mischievous rogue may be forever gone. But when Cadence appears in his life Curtis finds himself smiling again, smiling and dreaming and feeling more like himself than he has in five years. Drawn with almost unnatural force to the sweet and innocent goodness Cadence offers, Curtis blunders again and again to resist the pull of what a life with her couldbe.
Can Cadence show this wounded soul how to love again? Or is he doomed to be forever unforgiven, haunted by the ghosts of his past?

I can't imagine what it's like to be a soldier. To kill someone, to spend your life beating yourself up because of it.
Because of that, I had a hard time understanding Curtis. I was happy when Craig finally talked sense into him. His... Brooding, for lack of a better word, really ruined most of the story for me.
Ms. Blue is a seriously under-appreciated historical romance author. She sets a fascinating backdrop in both the present and Colonial America, her characters and plots are very well-developed, and I've thoroughly enjoyed all of the Langston brothers. A+ highly recommend!
Good historical fiction book. The characters were well done, there were a few plot twists that kept my interest and it flowed well. The hero had what we now know as PTSD and Cadence helps him see he's not the bad guy he thinks he is. I'm still not completely convinced no one else on the ship knew she wasn't a guy. The author did a good job of making this a stand alone book. The ending seemed rushed was my only complaint.
CADENCE proved that through love all pain goes away. I really enjoyed the second book in the Langston Brothers series. Curtis has been running away from all his problems. It took running into Cadence and becoming her savior to give him hope that he was worth saving. Cadence wanted to escape and find love. In the end, they both found what they were looking for in each other's arms! Curtis deserved love and he found his angel, CADENCE.

Another good book in the series. This one had more excitement then the first but not much of an epilogue. It felt like it needed a bit more to wrap it up an explain everything. Even though the characters from the first book showed up again this one can be read as a Standalone.
