In less words: Although quite disappointing considering how unbearably long the wait for this third installment was, particularly in the plot arena, it was pretty much impossible to withhold myself from the fun and general comfort this book brings, very much like it’s predecessors. As soon as I entered into the book, I felt a warmth that comes from welcome and familiarity and the joy of a reunion with some of my favorite characters. Not everyone can enjoy this series, and not every fan will be happy with every aspect of this book, but for my part I found it hard to be totally unhappy with it, even while acknowledging the unadventurous and obviously rushed plot, because the characters never stop being some of the perfect friends I’ve ever read.

In full: Oh-ho, Settling by Shelley Workinger ended with a hot mess that made me nervous for the lovely Clio Kaid. But, that’s me getting ahead of myself.

One of the reasons this series is so near and dear to my heart is because it’s among the first few review requests I ever received and actually loved. The Solid series is comprised of a trio of books that, no matter the direction of the story, remain addictive. The series begins with the illumination of an experiment performed by one shady scientist years ago, who had managed to alter the chromosomes of pregnant soon-to-be mothers somehow connected to the military. This one sinister alteration later brings together nearly all one hundred of the effected teens under one military-sponsored roof to be studied and tested for any dangerous, harmful side effects. What they learn about themselves is both thrilling and disturbing, and sets the course for the rest of the series, as it tempts those greedy for power to take control of the dark opportunity before them. This series specifically follows the life of Clio Kaid, who quickly befriends and brings together a group of clashing personalities who somehow work, and the shenanigans they unwittingly get themselves tangled in during their stay.

What I downright adore about this series so much is the aforementioned group of friends. I can’t go on with this review without mentioning each of them. The original group of five including Clio began with the cocky, hysterical Garrett, whose athletic prowess and friendly charm probably make him my favorite character in all the books, following with kind, peacemaker, adorable Jack and shy, pleasant Bliss, before finally adding in mean, cranky, bossy Miranda to seal the group. Clearly, this is not an ideally matching group but they are far from disjointed. I would’ve been absolutely okay with just the five, but then Workinger later goes on to add in wise, intelligent, reserved Alexis, a girl version of Garrett, Rae, whom I also adore, and, lastly, music-engrossed, hypnotic—literally—Xavier. You would think eight would be a crowd, no? But these later additions to the crew only enhance an already amazing bunch. They are the kind of friends I wish I’d brought together and constantly hung with in high school. Separately, not all of them completely stand out and make a huge impression, but they are each enjoyable. And together? I wish I had a t-shirt for my thoughts.

Solid, for me, is indeed a solid—pun intended—start to the series, and then Settling turned out to be an explosion of awesome for a follow-up. Which is why I was disappointed that Sound by Shelley Workinger wasn’t EVEN BETTER. The first half of the book really worked for me with all the forgiveness and hugs and fixing the mistakes of the second book. I almost wish that Workinger hadn’t added in a mystery and villain to mix in with the rest because it detracts from what I feel the essence of a finale—though, after the epilogue, I’m not quite sure if it’s really over—should be. Because all this mystery-solving takes place, BIG developments that I’d been waiting for since the beginning are rushed instead of focused on. The second half of Sound by Shelley Workinger begins to give a ‘pressed for time’ vibe, as if Workinger was quickly rushing to crush and shove everything in, tying up loose ends in a hurry, and her typically fun Big Reveal suffers tremendously with a totes anti-climactic twist. If Workinger was so adamant about including ALL THE FLIPPING THINGS then there should’ve been an extra fifty pages minimum added onto the story to fit it all better. However, because the author enjoys dishing out short, easily readable books, her lack of room became painfully evident.

Despite the enormous let-down of the plot, I can’t write off the book all together. Shelley’s writing style is simple and companionable, which is a plus, but it all goes back to these characters. This story and its characters aren’t literary masterpieces, and yet I couldn’t quite break down and pinpoint what I love so much about them. It’s that kind of addictive, happy, comfortable love that just brims over whenever you see certain characters interact together. It’s the idea of a group of teens, in spite of their differences and personal obstacles, relating, befriending, and sticking together for better or worse. And when the worst happens, given time, they can forgive, move on, and grow closer together. It’s a collective friendship that, frankly, makes me wistful and envious and happy all at once. What girl wouldn’t feel secretly smug for being the adhesive that not only keeps the group together but also the attraction that lured them into becoming friends to begin with? It’s my secret—or not—fantasy come to fiction!

If you’re after fun, light, quick reads and can suspend a certain amount of disbelief, then you’ll find yourself among those like me who enjoy and are quite entertained by this series as a whole and truly adore the collection of characters within.

Most Likely to be Enjoyed By: The less analytical reader who can enjoy a book completely without analyzing suspicious details and can simply go with the flow, who can enjoy mysteries and the solving of them even if they find themselves ten steps ahead and very expectant of a certain conclusion, and can ultimately relax with the brain candy in front of them and find laughter and cheer among a group of (not necessarily overly developed) characters who create an addictive and compulsively readable friendship and atmosphere, will have an easy time with this series. As for this third book, in particular, I find that fans, whose expectations may be unfulfilled, might be disappointed by the rushed vibe carried throughout the latter half of the book and might also realize that Sound by Shelley Workinger isn’t what they hoped it would be, especially after such a long wait between this installment and the last.

Content Warning: This book, this series for that matter, is perfect for a middle grade to young adult audience as it lacks any profound harshness or worrisome content. There’s kissing, death threats, but nothing explicitly violent or sexual in any of the books.

Review

Sound takes place just after the events of Settling, however I had to read the previous books again in order to dive in the final installment of the series. This is not necessary, of course, Shelly provides us with adequate information to know just where we are. So it was rather a delicious pleasure that I wanted to take because I loved Solid series since the beginning and I think anyone who likes science fiction will enjoy the trilogy.

I liked how the story unfolded, although felt a little rushed the end, I was surprised to find the final scene. I think I was very nervous thinking about what would happen after that chaotic outcome on Settling. Really, I can not ask for a better ending to the trilogy. How exciting! I loved how the problem was solved between friends, Clio and others are an indescribable charm, their voices are fresh and very appropriate to their ages.

They were, however a few things in the air, but in short, I think the wait was worth it. This review was originally posted on Book's Minion

With Sound, Clio has come full-circle, re-learning how to prioritize things in her life, including how to keep herself from shutting out her friends. Even with a more character-driven focus, and being shorter and slightly less action-packed than I was expecting, Sound was still a great way to end the Solid trilogy.

Still dealing with the repercussions of her kiss with Ford, Clio has been ostracized by most of her friends, leaving her to wallow in self-pity. Luckily for her, she has some great friends and it's not long before they're all apologizing for over-reacting, asking for her to forgive them for being a little extreme in their silent treatment. Of course Garret's apology was my favourite:
“And I thought maybe I owed you a solid.”

Didn’t see that coming.

“Because I haven’t been the best lately,” he went on, then hurried to clarify. “To you. I’ve obviously kept on being the best thing to happen to, you know, the universe.”
While it was all a little convenient, it also made Clio snap out of her funk, and become the "funny and weird" girl from the first two novels. It also made me appreciate her determination to resolve things with Ford, even though he continued to avoid her, because it wasn't as easy a fix for her.
Of course, at least then I’d know where he was, unlike now, when my seeing him on campus was about as likely as spotting the yeti. Either he was avoiding me, or he traveled by secret tunnel these days. Or both – he’d probably dug secret tunnels just to avoid me.
With things patched up between her friends, the real plot was able to begin! After some not-so-coincidental power outages at different field trips, Clio is convinced that something - or someone - is up to something. But, with her friendships still on shaky grounds, she was forced to drop the issue when all of her friends argued she was grasping at straws - saying she was looking for something to be amiss.

With much of Sound's focus on her rebuilding friendships, there wasn't much room for Clio's theories on who was behind the power outages - or their reasons for it. So when the ending came, and Clio ended up being taken captive, it was with minimal interest from me because there had been very little development leading up to it. With a grossly anticlimactic ending, which ironically enough, Clio comments on later, the villain explains their motives and is thwarted before things get too hairy.

But even with it's lacklustre ending, finishing the last few pages of Sound was bittersweet. I grew to really enjoy Clio and her gang of friends, even with their slightly corny-yet-heartwarming camaraderie, and I'm both sad to see their story come to an end and content with how things wrapped up. For fans of this series, it's a satisfying conclusion to this light and fun trilogy!

**Quick comment on the epilogue though - what in the heck was that about?! Please, share your thoughts with me in the comments!

I have stuck with the Solid trilogy since the beginning and I’m glad that I did. Shelley Workinger’s debut young adult series is a unique story that tons of readers will enjoy.

Sound starts off right where Settling left off and it doesn’t take long to get back into Clio’s story. She made a mess of things at the end of Settling and things are still pretty bad for her. Her friends don’t want anything to do with her and she doesn’t know how to make things better. However it doesn’t take long for her to realize that she doesn’t like being alone and she’s willing to do anything to restore her friendships. Clio really grows as a person throughout this book. She realizes her mistakes and she takes steps to fix them. She’s not too proud to admit when she is in the wrong. Sure she still has flaws (she’s a little pushy and nagging) but the good things about her far outweigh the bad.

The rest of the characters help make Clio a better person. Her friends are completely fabulous. I wasn’t really impressed with them in the beginning since they dropped Clio for a rather petty reason but they also grew throughout the story. They helped mend their friendships with Clio and their relationships seemed stronger for it afterward. My only issue with the friends were the girls. Rae, Alexis, Bliss, and Miranda didn’t have distinct enough personalities. I kept getting confused about which one was which. I wish they had been a little bit more developed so that they would have been easier to tell apart. The guys, on the other hand, were distinct and easy to differentiate. They really made me laugh throughout the book.

The plot was a bit lackluster. The first half of the book didn’t seem to go anywhere and I found myself getting distracted while reading it. There just wasn’t enough going on to hold my interest in the story. Things did pick up in the end but I felt that it was very rushed and too predictable. I guessed who the villain was in the very beginning. There was no real mystery to this book.

My biggest issue was the ending. Things weren’t really resolved. Questions were left unanswered and the epilogue left me really confused. This is supposed to be the final book in the trilogy but the epilogue opened everything up for more. I felt that the story would have been better without the epilogue. But hey, maybe there will be a spin-off series continuing the story?

Overall, Sound wasn’t a completely satisfying ending but I still enjoyed it. I’m happy with where the characters were at the end and there was enough closure to the story to please me. If you haven’t yet you should really check out this series.

My Rating: 4.5/5

Sound was a great way to tie up the Solid trilogy. I loved this trilogy, the characters and the plot. I would be hard pressed to decide which book was my favorite. I enjoyed all three books and think all three worked well to make a great trilogy that told the story of Clio and her friends during the summer they deal with finding out what happened to them well.

The characters continue to be wonderful in this book. Clio continues her struggle to balance wanting her alone time and her typical way of dealing with things with how it works to be friends with a group and come to count on others. I like Clio, she feels real and like a normal teenage girl even with her superhuman powers that she has been secretly without her knowledge been given. I love the others too. Garrett is hysterical with his cockiness and humor. Miranda just being Miranda. Bliss with her sweet naivete. Alexis' tough exterior but strong desire to fit in with the group. Rae and Xavier's toughness have really been great addition to the group since the second book. And of course Jack, wonderful, adorable Jack. Each character brings something to the book, and it's not just their powers, it's their personalities. That's what really contributes to the story and had me enjoying every page.

The story behind this one was a little more under the radar than the first two but it was a good light suspense tale with the characters still taking the front seat. I enjoyed the plot, and enjoyed seeing where it was going. In the end I felt things were a tad rushed, but it didn't bother me too much, I still really enjoyed the book. I just felt I needed a little more right at the most suspenseful part. The very end was handled well, but I'm wondering if there is a bit more on the horizon? Oh Ms. Workinger, you are a crafty one.

Even if there isn't, the end was very satisfying. I will miss seeing the gang again if I there aren't any more books in the works and I will be overjoyed if there are. Either way, this trilogy is finished with a flourish. I have enjoyed each book and loved Sound. Thank you Ms. Workinger for a refreshing fun series revolving around interesting characters and a different plot. I loved every minute and Solid is a tremendous finish. If you haven't tried this series, it's a must-read, if you haven't read Solid yet, then you have to get it to finish up the series. You won't be disappointed.

What a perfect conclusion to the Solid series! I really enjoyed book one, Solid, and book two, Settling, but I think that Sound was my favorite out of the series. It was a close race, though: all three books were great reads in their own right. Not to mention the fact that Workinger provides a descriptive summary at the beginning of each book, thus enabling readers who are new to the series a way to jump right in. I would definitely recommend reading all three books, and reading them in order, of course, but you could read just one book from the series and still understand what's going on.

Sound takes place immediately after the events in Settling, book two. Clio is ostracized by her group of friends, because of her betrayal of Jack. Clio had an inappropriate moment with Lieutenant Graham at the end of book two and once her friends found out, they shunned her. The worst part was that Jack does not remember anything about Clio's betrayal. In fact, he can't remember his relationship with Clio at all!

Finally, Clio takes ownership of her mistake and is accepted back into her group of friends. I loved the way the conflict resolution between the group was handled. I loved that Clio really owns her feelings and stands up for herself. I also was happy with the way Clio handled her relationship with Jack: it wasn't at all what I was expecting, but it was perfect for the situation. Additionally, I was also pleased with how Workinger resolved the conflict with Lieutenant Graham, especially the part where Clio confesses her indiscretion to Colonel Clark.

My one complaint about Sound was that there was a lot of build-up to the actual action sequence in the book. The build-up was necessary, but I would have preferred for the book to be longer and to have more action.

I was surprised at the ending---which made me happy---I love to be surprised. I think it was the perfect way for Workinger to end the series. She left things open enough for a future sequel, but closed enough to give her readers closure. I hope there is a sequel sometime in the future, because I'd love to read more about the Solid characters and spend some more time in their world!

I loved this book just as much as the first two in the series. I had no idea how the author was going to wrap things up, so I really had no idea what to expect when I started the book. The only thing I knew was that I wanted Clio to repair her relationship with her friends. Other than that I wasn't sure what most of the book would consist of.

*Slight spoilers*

The ending of the book was definitely left open-ended. About halfway through the book I couldn't figure out how all of the loose ends were going to be tied up by the end of the book. I found it really interesting that they weren't because it wasn't like they were left open in a way that shows bad writing because the author failed in some way. Instead, Jack specifically tells Clio that you don't always get the answers to everything (I'm paraphrasing. I can't remember what exactly is said.). I was really intrigued by that. I thought it was a really neat idea to go that route and not tie everything up. Instead it could be left up to the reader, so as I was reading the ending I was fully prepared to not get answers to everything.

Then I read the epilogue. The epilogue was different than just leaving some loose ends. It seemed to specifically imply that there was more the the story. It didn't just leave plot points open. It created more of them, which left me kind of confused. This is supposed to be the last book, but now I'm left wondering about the epilogue. Maybe there's more to do with that? Maybe a different series or book based around the same universe that will expand on the epilogue? I don't know. I do know that, if there is a new book or series, I'll read it.

*End of spoilers*

I really enjoyed Sound and the whole series. I'd never read a series like it before. The idea of teenagers finding out they were genetically altered before they were even born was a really neat idea. I loved the characters and the storyline. I definitely recommend this series.

I must say Shelley wrote one heck of a series. I devoured each book and longed for more. Sound is a great ending to her series and she has made a fan out of me for life. Sound, like the rest of the series, was so hard to put down. Her characters are so relatable and full of layers.

Clio is living with the consequence of her actions from book two at the start of Sound. Her friendships have become fractured and she doesn't know how to fix it. Rae, Xavier, and Alexis are her only source of comfort. Bliss, Miranda, and Garrett have yet to forgive her while Jack doesn't even remember much of anything. But, like any great friendship, the gang slowly comes around and reunites. To celebrate the end of summer and the up coming school year the military tells the whole "camp" that they get to pick one of four outings. They can choose from a baseball game, a Broadway play, a concert, or the Planetarium. But when you are a kid with super-human abilities nothing ever goes according to plan. All four outings have a similar event happen which kicks them into action. Once back a "camp' Clio seems to be the only one truly concerned about what has happened which starts Clio on her "Harriet The Spy" mission.

I can't really say much more without ruining the story for everybody. Even though Sound is the end to the Solid Trilogy, I can't help feeling that Shelley left the door open a crack to possibly a book 4 or a spin-off series (which in my opinion would be AWESOME). On a scale from 1-10 I give Sound a 10. It is a great ending to a series while leaving just enough room for possibly more. If you loved Solid and/or Settling then you really need to pick up a copy of Solid. If you haven't read either than you really need to get moving and buy all three books in the Solid Trilogy. Delve right into the world of C9X and the Military cover up that follows. Let Clio show you how to disappear into her world.

From my blog, Booklopedia.

Sound continues several weeks after the end of Settling, in which A LOT of stuff happened. The protagonist, Clio, is still at the camp that she was put in for a couple weeks, but eventually became a whole summer camp, and now they have extended it to become a whole year thing in order to fully develop and analyze the powers that the special kids like Clio seem to have.

Even though everything seems fine since Clio and her gang of friends have been able to get rid of two threats, evil is still lurking in the background when a major coincidence unsettles Clio. Not only does Clio have to deal with this new possible threat, but she also has to deal with the friendships she lost during the course of Settling.

The final novel in the trilogy was a fantastic ending because it still maintained the mystery and suspense that all the previous novels had and had a rather cute ending to tie it all up. I will say that I felt that this one did not have as much action as the previous ones and was mostly based around conversations over the coincidence and possible theories or it was Clio trying to patch things up with her friends and reestablish the friendships/relationships with the people she cared about. The climax of the novel felt rather short, too and I wish that the book could have been a little bit longer.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading Sound and seeing how everything would play out in the end for Clio and her friends, as well as what will happen to the camp. The ending was super adorable with all of them making plans to stay in touch, especially since they're practically all of the world with the addition of Angus who is from Australia. If you're looking for a book that involves suspense and people with superpowers, which is surprisingly not all that common in the young adult genre, then definitely try the Solid trilogy!

After one of the craziest summers Clio will probably ever have she just wants to things to get back to as normal as they can. She has found out that she was genetically altered and has powers, she has made friends who were also altered, found love and help solve a murder case. She managed to throw the friendships and the love she found away. Now before she goes home she wants to set them back to rights. Will she get them back or will she go home alone.

Clio is great for the simple fact she acts like what you think a person in this situation should. She makes mistakes but tries to grow from them. She isn't perfect and she knows it. She has to face a lot of facts in this book among them the fact she has to make changes to get her friends back. All the other fantastic characters are back in this book as well. They each have their own power and each have an unique personality that makes them their own great addition.

This is the third and I believe final book in the Solid series. I would highly recommend you read the other two first. Each are great books so you won't regret it. It is hard to review series books without giving spoilers. In this final book we see Clio continue to grow as a person and to understand her life will not be the same. I love all the characters in this series and the plot is wonderful. The action is a little slower in this book as there isn't a whole lot. To me it was mostly about wrapping the series up. It is about All the kids coming back together and trying to work things out. The author does an amazing job as always I just missed that action from the first to books, There is still some there just not like the first two. I would recommend reading this series in order. It is a good one and one that stays with you after you are finished reading.

The final installment in the Solid series is finally here and, thankfully, it’s a very tidy ending for a series I really enjoyed. I was worried that perhaps not all my questions would be answered, but Workinger did a great job with her conclusion, though the epilogue may leave readers wondering what’s to come… perhaps a spinoff series? I’d like that!

While I would have liked a little more action in this final novel, Sound is more or less a novel focusing on Clio’s final turn-around, her actual coming of age, as it were. In Solid, we begin learning about Clio’s special powers and, in the midst of all the chaotic new abilities as the teens try to figure out answers, they become good friends, and I really connected the with characters—namely Clio. Settling, the middle novel, deals more with the collapse of everything around Clio as she begins to lose herself, and everything she holds dear, making her fall from grace a bit shocking. With Sound, Clio must come to terms with what she’s done, learn to accept forgiveness and, once again, figure out who is beyond the strange occurrences around camp, which is always fun for me. In this final installment, I was once again able to connect with Clio, which I thoroughly enjoyed, and I liked the resolution of the series very much, though, once again, the epilogue has me asking questions about what’s to come. If you have a chance to read this series, I highly suggest it, especially as the novels pick up one right after the other, and I’m sure Solid will leave you breathless, wanting so much more, which you’ll get in Settling and Sound.

After I finished Settling, I knew I had to get my hands on a copy of this. Good thing I have connections in high places (read: thanks Shelley, for getting me a copy!).

Ok, so I ended up devouring this. Like, I read 50% of the story in one go. Which is great, but I ended up going through the story quicker than I thought I would...

Anyway, I thought this was a pretty good story. It wasn't as exciting as I remember the first one to be, nor did I really feel a ton of suspense from this one. The climax happened rather abruptly and without warning. Just like...La-di-da BAM! La-di-da. Does that make any sense? It wasn't a terrible ending, but I was hoping for something more exciting since it's the end of the series.

And for the characters...I still like them, but I didn't feel like there was really any new development with them. And there was one point with Jack that either came totally out of left field or I completely missed it in the last book. I think my favorite part of the whole thing was the ending. I feel weird saying that because it sounds kinda negative, but it really was. The falling action was just more enjoyable than certain parts of the story.

My final point I want to make is that some of the action seemed a little too easy. Especially right at the beginning. That would have been a perfect place to develop Clio some more, and the opportunity was missed in order to, I think, move the story along faster. I was a little disappointed in that, but mostly I liked this book and the series.

The Solid books are always enjoyable reads that you can fly through fairly easily, and Sound is no exception. I really enjoy the “super powers” aspect, especially when it started off with a government conspiracy, and that aspect of the tale remains interesting. Where Sound is successful is in the great group dynamic that’s at play. There are all these different characters, but you feel like you get to know each of them because of their distinct personalities and abilities.

Clio is the main character and she does some growing up in this book, reaffirming some friendships that were lost by the end of the previous book. Where Clio remains the same is that she’s a character who doesn’t like to sit back and let others handle things. She’s determined and she likes to get involved and try to fix things. Sometimes this can be to her detriment, but it makes her a character you can respect, because you know she always wants to know the truth and have answers given to her and her fellow ‘campers’.

Sound provides a great conclusion to the Solid trilogy, wrapping up plot lines and bringing about answers, but it also contains an intriguing epilogue that makes you think that Shelley Workinger has more up her sleeve when it comes to these characters, or at least to this world. Overall if you’re looking for some quick and lighter reads (despite the sometimes heavier subject matter) then look no further than this trilogy.

This is one of the series that I was really excited about. The first book was OK with typical characters, but the second book topped my expectations and came off much better. So I was expecting a lot from book three, and I think that I got what I bargained for.
Might contain minor spoilers if you have not read Solid and Settling (my reviews here)...
Clio managed to lose all her friends and her love during the course of one year in the camp. But now, things almost start looking up, and her abilities are improving. But that does not mean that there is no trouble. Between the camp and home, the old Jack and the new one, her old friends and her new friends, her confused feelings, Clio has to choose.
Shelley Workinger has a very simple, easy-to-follow writing style, but she has given a very unique voice to Clio and i would recognise it anywhere. Clio is an amazing character, and it's very easy to relate to her and her feelings. I felt that I didn't like the new Jack as much as the old Jack, but their love is so pure and wonderful that I didn't really mind. And the way they discovered more of their abilities was intriguing, though I would have loved it if there was more about it. I didn't like the lack of the paranormal in this book.
Recommended to everyone who enjoys a YA romance with a twist of paranormal. I am sad that this series is over but I am definitely waiting to read more from Ms. Shelley!

I have been a fan of the Solid series since the first chapter of the first book. The series has an interesting premise, the army conducted experiments on pregnant woman and the now teenage children born of those experiments are living on a military base and are each discovering what those experiments did to them. In this third installment in the series, the teens are faced with more uncertainty for their future. Will they stay at the base or return to their homes? Will the army ever learn exactly what has happened to them and if they do will they tell them?

I have to admit that this third book was a little bit quick for me. I wanted more because I have really come to love the characters. I really was not ready to let them go. It also seems that the army has made some series errors in judgement in who they let on base with those kids. It seems that their temporary home is no safer in this book than the previous two.

Still though, I did enjoy the story. I like Clio even though she is not perfect. She does have an inquisitive personality though and I like that about her. Of course there is more of Jack and the rest of the gang and I have really come to like them all as well. I really enjoyed the series overall and I hate that it is over already! I do recommend reading this series from the beginning because the trilogy as a whole is original and interesting.

Awww. It's kind of sad to see Clio's story come to an end. This book was more about Clio reconnecting with her friends and accepting how she fits in with those around her than anything else. Yes, there was some mayhem but it was relatively mild -- especially compared to some of the things Clio and the gang have had to deal with previously. This ended up being a nice send off for the super kids.

Now, it had been a while since I read book 2 (close to a year! Whoa!) and while I remembered the characters just fine, I had to play mental catch up on what happened to Jack and why Clio was estranged from her buds. I got it all ironed out in my head, it just took a few pages. The Jack situation was a little on the sad side. It ended up being hopeful but the idea of losing your memories like he did makes my frowny, sad, let's-give-him-a-cookie face come out. And, yes, I'm aware that I always try to give damaged heroes cookies to make everything better. It's a thing. A chocolately, gooey, fresh from the oven thing.

Shelley Workinger has closed out this trilogy nicely and left things open ended enough that I think she could come back to it in the future if it tickled her fancy. I've enjoyed my time with these genetically modified super kids and I really am sad to see them go.

Sound is the third and final book of the Solid Trilogy by Shelley Workinger. The journey of Clio Kaid is coming to an end, and I have to admit I'm a little sad. In the first book, Solid, we found out about Clio's power and her struggle with it. The second book, Settling, is full of tension and growing pains. In the final book, Sound, Clio must own up to her mistakes and learn to trust herself. The beginning of the book is sorta rocky because Clio has some apologizing to do, as well as forgiving. The gang: Rae, Bliss, Jack, and Xavier, are all back together and excited to spend their senior year together. To celebrate, the school allows the kids to go to a really cool outing of their choice. While out and about the kids experience what seems to be a random situation. Nobody thinks much of it except for Clio. However Clio doesn't know if she's being overly cautious or just plain paranoid.
Sound is a good book to finish up this trilogy. I would have liked it to have a little more action in it, but it was still good. I feel as if I've traveled with Clio throughout this trilogy. And I'm sad to see it end. I think Shelley Workinger did a great job of ending this series. She gives a little tidbit at the end that makes me wonder if there is going to be a spin-off. A girl can hope.

One of the things I really loved about Shelley's Settling series is the characters. After reading each book now, the thing that really stuck with me was the characterization and the way these characters interact with each other. Each one of them has their own personality, their own quirks, and their dialogue is so natural. It really makes them seem real to me.... so kudos to Shelley for some great characterization, for having created some very sympathetic and memorable characters.

With that in mind, I have to say that I'm pleased by how Clio is able to resolve issues with her friends. It was difficult to see this group on the outs with each other, and I was so happy when resolution came, and Clio began to reconcile with her friends. The strength of these books has been these characters and the fact that they're working together. So this was gratifying to see.

Without giving anything else away, I am pleased with how Shelley ended this series. The ending was solid, and I felt she tied things up well. If I had any complaints it all, it might be that I wish there had been a bit more action throughout the books leading up to the big events. But other than that, the books had great pacing and held my interest. I'll be interested to see what Shelley comes up with next.

Since, I followed this book from the beginning, I couldn't wait to see how it ended. Fast-paced and exciting, Sound is great!

So in this story Clio is struggling with making amends. A lot has happen in the past few months and lots of consequences of the choices she makes are coming back to her. The plot is exciting cause of the loose ends the author is trying up. Lots questions are answered and the future of the group is at stake. I think the plot could have more going on but I felt it did satisfy the reader. The reader gets to see each members of the group as well as who they came to be. All of them have a great friendship that will last forever.

There are some minor characters that the reader finally gets more of. I love that every aspect of Clio's life is well explained. Clio is not perfect. She makes mistakes and faces what she done. She pushed everything aside and stood up for what is important.

Overall, Sound is good. I like that the ending is nicely tied up. Though for me the book is short and of course I wanted more action in it, still it took me for awesome reading adventure. Sound is confident and entertaining. A great story from book one, Sound is great!

After the events in ‘Settling’, I wasn’t sure how things were ever going to work out for Clio. She’d discovered the truth behind a conspiracy and stopped a killer. She’d also made some secret discoveries about her abilities and made a huge mistake, both of which cost her friends and her relationship with Jack. Plus, it cost Jack his memory. Now in ‘Sound’, Clio is trying to make up for her mistakes. Yet, everything is not as it seems with the people in charge of the compound. Can Clio make up with her friends and figure out what is going on before it’s too late for them all?

After my mixed feelings at the end of ‘Settling’, I was eager to see how Clio would go about putting everything right in this final installment of the “Solid series”. I was pretty satisfied with ‘Sound’ and how the author wrapped everything up neatly, but left the door open to revisit the characters later if she chooses to do so. I admire Clio’s tenacity and intuitiveness, as well as understand intimately her ability to “open mouth and insert foot”! Ultimately, the “Solid series” is just that – a good, solid, and enjoyable read!

My Review: I've loved this trilogy from the start, and Sound is no exception. I loved everything about this book.

Sound is the third and concluding book in the Solid series, and I am sad to see it end. I love the characters in this series. Clio and her friends, new and old, are a fun group to read about. Each person is unique, and each person is real and relatable. Some of the craziest things happen to Clio and her friends, and I love that they acknowledged that it was crazy that these things were happening to them and that they tried to figure out why, instead of just going with it.

Sound tied up loose ends in the series, took us on one last adventure, and finished off with a perfect and very intriguing end. I'm sad to see it end! I've loved reading about Clio and her friends, and their camp. This is definitely a series I would reread! I look forward to seeing what Ms. Workinger comes out with next!

I've been with the series since the release of the first novel. I was happy to be asked to participate in the tour for the final book. Sound was a great ending to a trilogy I've really enjoyed.

I was hoping that Clio would get some redemption in this book. I never felt like she deserved all that happened to her in the 2nd book. Sure she made some poor choices. But as teenagers typically do, they all overacted. I was happy to see that her friends just needed some time to cool off and realized the true importance of friendship.

I liked how Clio begins to understand her abilities a little bit more. With the help of her friends, some progress is made is the idea of how she is different and what the future might hold for all of them.

I think the only thing I was disappointed in was it really didn't feel like much of an ending. We know what happens to the school, but not much besides that. There are no cliffhangers per say, just loosely tied ends.

Clio and friends - including those with whom she must make amends - are still at camp, finishing up the summer, and hoping to stay for the entire school year. There are still questions to be answered about their abilities, and some might have plans for their abilities - given the opportunity to control them.

I still love the premise of this series. Sadly, I'm disappointed in this "conclusion." It doesn't feel like a conclusion to me at all, but rather just another hiccup in all the research they're trying to accomplish. Really, nothing else is learned about their abilities - nor what it will mean for their futures. And some abilities remain undiscovered...or so it seems. Luckily, the door is left open at the end - so, maybe it's not entirely over?

On the bright side, I like that Clio is forced to confront her friends and recognize that she shut them out as much as they've shut her out - which is an important lesson for teens (and adults, no?).

The conclusion to the Solid series is a fast paced and interesting end to the lovey world inhabited by Clio Kaid and her fellow mutants. I use the word “mutant” loosely because this isn’t a true genetic mutation born of evolution, but rather an intentionally scientifically engineered one that I still want to know more about. Luckily, the door is left open to get more information down the line, and I’m almost as excited as Clio would be.

In the previous novel, Clio made a series of questionable decisions, and she spends a fair amount of time dealing with the consequences in this book. I liked that she had to mend some fences and try to repair her friendships, but I also wish it had taken a bit longer. I think that’s my most consistent thing with this series, I wish it was longer!

This was a quick read & a nice ending to a series that I have really enjoyed! Clio & the gang are a fun bunch and I am going to miss them. It was great to see Clio make up with her friends and still continue to "solve the mystery." After book 2 I was so mad at Clio, but I am glad she fixed things and I got to understand why she did what she did. I was so glad to have her & Jack make up, I missed them together, it's probably good that Jack doesn't remember what happened & they can start over. I'm sad to see the series end, but that epilogue left me wondering, so I am interested to see if anything will come from that.

Overall the book was a great read; there was a nice little mystery, but it mostly focused on the characters, which I loved. I highly recommend the series, it's awesome!

Feel free to read my full review here: http://remarkable-reads.blogspot.com/...

To summarize: Overall, Sound was a satisfying conclusion to a fantastic series, one that I will miss! (Let's get a petition going for a sequel series, people!) Clio has really matured as a character, acknowledging her flaws and gaining control over her abilities. It was a pleasure to read along as her journey unfolded. I would have loved more action, and more of a thrilling climax to end the series with, but again, overall this was a satisfying end. I have a feeling that this isn't the last time we'll be reading about Clio Kaid...

My Rating: Remarkable Read :)

I’m a big fan of Shelley and the Solid series. I hate to see it come to an end (Is it the end? ☺), but I think she did a great job wrapping things up. There is always a good mix of drama, action, and humor in each of Shelley’s novels and she does a great job portraying the lives of the extraordinary teens. I love the way she incorporates Clio’s song in with the story—how she is finally “found.” They have all overcome a lot and they have the world at their fingertips as they embark on their adult lives. It’s important that they know they have a world of possibilities available to them, but they still have so much room to grow and learn.

I definitely recommend this series! Get it now ☺…

Well we have come to the end of the solid trilogy by Shelley Workinger with the final installment sound. Here we pick up where Settling left off with Clio Kaid having to take responsibility for the choices she made. Her friendships have become a mess and she has no clue how to fix them. after an end of summer outing things get even more interesting for cilo.

all in all a good ending to the series. I enjoyed all three books and felt this was a great conclusion to the series. I would definitely recommend reading this series if you enjoy things like X-men movies or cartoons. This series was like reading a story of X-Men in high school.I give this one a two thumbs up.

Great (maybe) ending to this series. :) Clean. No full on review for this book because I've got so many going on and this was sort of an in between sneaker book. I really wanted to read this book even though I probably didn't have time to do it. I just couldn't help myself. The last book of the series is always a draw. I'm a girl that likes resolution and while this book didn't tie everything up in a box with a pretty bow, it did give enough resolution to satisfy me. This was a fun book.
