Drake is a protector. He was created for only one purpose - to protect the life of his sovereign Addison. When the kingdom suddenly falls under attack, Drake must do whatever he can to keep Addison safe. Not only out of duty, but also out of the love he secretly has for her.
This is a young adult paranormal romance with mild language and sexual content and is recommended for readers ages 16 and up.
Can Drake accomplish what it was he was created for? Or will the love of his life fall into the hands that mean to destroy her?
Okay, I struggled a little bit with this series. Protected is about two Protectors who are both in love with the sovereigns they swore their lives to protect. The royal family they serve has come under attack and now Addison has to step up and take over the kingdom. I was a bit confused as to the time and place of the Kingdom....was it in 2013? In the Middle Ages? In a different time line?
I also struggled with the point of views changing every few chapters. At the very least, I thought that each chapter should have been named after the character who was telling the story. And I had a hard time following dialogue, again, because of the editing.
I did like how spirited the characters were, and how easy going Drake was (most of the time). They all seemed to be having a rather good time despite so many bad things happening! And there was definitely enough conflict between the characters for a good sequel to happen. I'll admit I was glad when Drake and Addison finally declared their love for one another.
All in all, Protected is a light and fun read and I give it 3 out of 5 stars.
This book was a really slow start. At times I thought I might just put it down and walk away (it was a free book after all). I stuck with it though and about half way through it, it picked up and I got interested. I'm still intrigued by what is going to happen in the next book, so the plot line did pull me in, eventually.
The characters were great and well developed. You get complex characters with very real feelings. I connected easily with the characters. The cliffhanger....AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I really hate cliffhangers, but I suppose I'll deal and read the next book.
