I'm a big fan of author Nicholas Bate style of almost-conversational writing, in which he breaks down complex topics and makes them easy to understand and helps practically implement them.
In his book "Instant MBA" - Bate succinctly breaks down the important learning to be found in an Master of Business Administration (MBA) course and serves it to you in a series of short, snappy and easy to read chapters that each end with an idea on how to implement what you've learned.
While I've never had an interest in pursuing an MBA myself, I found the book an interesting read with a lot of learning which would be valuable for anybody - whether an employee or a business owner - who wants to go from good to great.
Bate also includes a number of chapters dedicated to introducing thought leaders within the business world. These chapters alone give great value, offering further reading from some of the very best minds.

Just scratching the surface. If you already know a bit about business theory, it could be either a reminder or a waste of time.
If you are an absolute beginner - then this might be a place to start.

If books were Youtube, this book would be a collection of reels. Crumbles of everything, details of nothing. Awful.

Tedious and uninspiring. Some of the best bits were the quotes:
Some notes:
On the whole, not worth bothering with. Point 46: start a blog. The only time I want to know about personal brands is when someone's running at me with a piece of red-hot metal.
"Our brains deal exclusively with special-case experiences. --Buckminster Fuller, "Operating Manual for Spaceship Earth, 1963."
"Those who never take risks can only see other people's failures. --Paulo Coelho
Some notes:
Porter's Five Forces:
1. The threat of substitute products, e.g. downloading films from the Internet versus buying them from a video store.
2. The threat of current competitors, e.g. the overstocked sandwich market in the UK.
3. The threat of new players with a totally fresh approach, e.g. the new luxury chocolate market.
4. The bargaining power of suppliers, e.g. negotiating with a top brand name.
5. The bargaining power of customers, e.g. customers using Internet shopping sites which compare prices.
"You must give your customers a powerful and positive and enlivening experience, one which is so good that they want to return."
"Get big, get special, or get out."
Price: cost, perception of value, signaling, elasticity, relationship with market share.

Interesting book that's basically a summary of most of the business philosophies and models put forth in the last 30 years from the late Peter Drucker to Tom Peters who is still going strong. I found the discussion of pricing to be of particular interest in this world of indie publishing.
If you're not conversant with the business world, this would be a helpful primer to bring you up to date with current jargon. If you're an indie author, this could give you some food for thought about marketing and promotion.

This was a free kindle download for me. Many iteresting ideas for anyone who is involved in running a business, or desires to run their own business. Not all the ideas will probably apply to any one person, but I think there is something to be gleaned here for every business person.

This was an interesting book because I have an MBA from a pretty good school. Nicholas Bate does a thorough job of covering the basics and Instant MBA reminded me of a few things that I had forgotten.
I was really amazed at how much was stuffed into this book.
