First off thanks to Rosebud from the Erotica group whom turned this author in my direction in regards to reviewing her book. And have to say that really this is a book that is a 2.5 star rating. There is a lot of good work done in this story but with just a little more work it could have been even better.
Synopsis: Deadly Stripper is essentially a story about an ordinary girl’s hard on for vampires going interestingly wrong. So wrong that Celee Spence(ordinary girl and main character) ends up with some interesting abilities and one hellish pact with her demonic boss to be his hell soul scout by day and his business associate's stripper by night. That is til she meets Greger, a vamp with a personal mission, he needs her help with. Celee agrees and it isn't long before the story picks up from there.
What I liked about the story: -Interesting twist on having a stripper as a main character. I’ve read quite a few PNR, UF, and even Erotica stories over the years. And so far none have ever had a story with protag being a stripper. Particularly with the name of Celee(a name that totally made me think of the Color Purple and Oprah, lol). Major kudos, for the originality in the name choice and profession choice with the character. As well as the respect for the different sup characters involved along the way.
-I enjoyed the point of the story being right in the beginning(as well as being just 14 chapters, love it) and I didn’t have to wait for it to eventually come around. Far too many stories lag and don’t get where they need to be but this one got right to the point and I definitely loved that.
What I didn't like about the story: -I’m no prude and have read quite a bit of erotica in various forms over the years. But I truly have to say, that the love/sex scenes in this story just seemed rather random and very sudden. Wanted a bit more story with some the scenes and not for them to happen so quickly.
-Totally was not a fan of Greger knowing so much about EVERYTHING. I mean I enjoy a good story where the characters aren’t dumb as dirt or the author feels the need to explain everything to the reader to the point it feels like hand-holding. But seriously I was so annoyed with Greger having an answer for every single inquiry that Celee had. Particularly at the end when Celee meets his contacts.
Recommendations: I think this would be a good story for anyone that is interested in trying an erotica story with an urban fantasy twist. You get all the action, hot sex scenes, and interesting characters to truly satisfy you in this book. And I think with a few tweaks here and there with regard to character development and pacing of the plot. This is an author to watch out for.
Demons, Vamps, and uhhmmm Strippers? Oh My! Celee is one tough chick. What's a girl who's bartered her soul have to look forward too? She's made some bad decisions in the past but is doing the best she can. One uber hot vamp turns up at her door and things start changing for Celee. Not to mention her sexy as hell Rocker, on-again, off-again, play mate Jay who wants their relationship to move to the next level. Maybe a bad girl can turn good with a little sexy help along the way :) Ms. Thorne has created a dark world that exists along side our own. This is not a fluffy little paranormal romance. If your looking for a gritty, urban fantasy with some really scorching sex scenes this book is for you. This is the first in the series: Sexy and Damned. I'm looking forward to the next.
THE DEADLY STRIPPER is a unique take on the world of urban fantasy and is the beginning of what I think will be a great new series.
Celee is a stripper who ended up selling her soul to a demon in order to gain supernatural powers that would make her safer. In essence, she has all the powers of a vampire without any of the drawbacks. She struggles to keep herself alive however she can because the alternative is losing her soul and going to Hell.
One night a mysterious vampire named Greger shows up at her door with a proposition: help him find a young girl in trouble and he can help Celee get her soul back.
With nothing to lose, she sets on the quest to search for the human--finding obstacles and dangers along the way. But, Celee is strong, smart, and determined to keep her end of the bargain. What she doesn’t know, however, is that true quest is just beginning.
Ok, so let me say right off the bat that THE DEADLY STRIPPER wasn’t at all what I was expecting. I read Diane Thorne’s other book, Demon in Disguise, and it was campy and fun. This book is much darker, so while that’s not a bad thing, I just didn’t expect it.
Celee is an interesting character because she seems a bit self-centered and uncaring in the beginning, but we begin to get glimpses of a more compassionate person as the story goes along.
The book takes you in the seedier side of nightlife which also happens to be full of vampires, demons, and witches who are interacting along side of unsuspecting humans. In my mind the world that Thorne created was dark and dirty but very intriguing.
I loved the fact that THE DEADLY STRIPPER has more of an urban fantasy feel to it as opposed to a straight romance. I think Celee’s character would have been ruined for me if she was wrapped up in a tidy HEA.
My biggest complaint with the book was that although I am an erotica lover--I don’t think anyone could possible argue that point--I felt like the erotic component of the book was disjointed. It didn’t flow for me, and it actually detracted me from the story at times.
Aside from that, I loved the way this book ended. It totally threw me for a loop and I’m thrilled when I book surprises me. THE DEADLY STRIPPER is the first book in the Sexy & Damned series and that ending guaranteed that I will be looking for book two!
This is such a unique book. Erotica now spans wide sub-genres but never have I read about a half vampire stripper that has a penchant to killing. Fast paced and action packed.
I really liked Greger too. He is a wild card and still a little bit of a mystery man.
I am interested to see where this series goes, with un-settled relationships and souls in the balance it can only lead to more good books with some hot under the sheets action :)
Celee has been kicked around by life. In a world of have-not, she was orphaned at a young age and life proved to be up-hill from then on. With few choices in life she end up a stripper and it isn't horrible, at least not until she discovers that human like her isn't at the top of the food-chain. Desperate she see's no other way out than strike a deal with a demon, only no deal with a devil will be a good one. In the seedy underbelly of her city she's far from the only one that has struck a deal with the same demon and one of them seek her out to ask for her help in finding a young girl that may hold the key out of their deals.
I loved Celee as a character, but felt that I missed parts of her past that made her into the sexual being that she is. However it's refreshing to read an erotica with a female character that isn't afraid demand sex rather than fall back with her legs spread in the presence of any hot male she's interested in. The purpose of the character Jay in the story completely escaped me, if it wasn't to add more sex to the story.
I love the concept and the story, a paranormal erotic detective story. To me at least that's an intriguing blend, unfortunately Diane Thorne has create a mix where the dose of sex is too heavy leading to the actually story to nearly get lost. The sex scenes are hot, but the problem is that there isn't much left when you lift them out. It's really a pity as the seedy setting that Celee supposedly roam has plenty of settings that invite to sexually charged situations there shouldn't have to be that much actual sex and that way some detective-like snooping could have been added. For a book about a stripper I was surprised that there was no stripping described in the book.
In summary a good book, but slightly disappointing. A bit like an evening with a candle lit feast, with mood music and a hot date... that ends with a premature climax.
Celee Spence is trying to make the best out of the life she helped screw up. About 7 years ago she was naive enough to make a deal with a demon. She got vampire strength, speed and senses but she also has to drink vampire blood to stay immortal and if she dies her soul goes to hell for eternity....... Brilliant idea..... Well she thought it was at the time. She came to Indiana with the plan of earning enough money to support her younger siblings and get them out of foster care. That was nearly 10 years ago and she was no closer, a stripper, no longer human and one of her bosses was a demon. Hardly the environment she could bring them into. To make things worse, Jay, her friend and lover was pressuring her to give him more. Can Celee get past their differences? Or will she end up pushing him away? A vampire named Greger asks for her skills to help him find a human girl called Bethany. He tells her he will give her his blood for the safe return of the girl. Can she trust his proposal? Why does the life of one human mean so much to him? What is he getting in return?
Diane Thorne writes a brilliant story of vampires, demons and warlocks. It was an enjoyable read that kept me turning the pages. I'm really intrigued to read more about all the characters. I would have given it 5 stars if it was longer.
This book threw me into a new world that takes place in my hometown. In an alternate Indianapolis, IN, Thorne throws us into the night life.
Vampires, demons, cursed souls, and the possibility of redemption. All kinds of fun.
Our MC, is Celee, who is just trying to survive. She doesn't think she has any possibility of redemption, so she is doing what she can to prevent her death and her soul slipping into the depths of hell.
This book is fast-paced, sexy and harsh. I loved every moment. Celee is not afraid of her sexuality and doesn't hide from seeking the pleasure she wants from whoever she wants it from at the time. She has one man who loves her, another who wants to control her, and now one who might want to save her.
We are left with hope and some happy for now, but this is not a traditional HEA romance.
Diane Thorne is one of those authors who really leaves you panting for more. We have a complete story with just enough left over that you can't wait to pick up the next one. So let's have the next one already woman!!
The Deadly Stripper.....what an unusual name for a book, but it's very fitting! I was intrigued very early on in the book and found myself flying through the book. It was fast-paced, interesting, and hot!
We have all kinds of yummy paranormal creatures in this book as well as some not so yummy ones. We have vampires, shifters, witches, warlocks, demons and a surprise paranormal creature! (Don't want to give anything away).
Celee is an awesome heroine. She tough, snarky, and a stripper. Who doesn't love a stripper for a MC?
Greger is a vampire and he's hot!
This started out as a typical paranormal story for me, but by the time it ended, I didn't feel that way at all. There were a couple of surprises at the end that really made this book stand out and left me with a smile on my face.
There's no HEA or even an HFN at the end of this book, but you will end up with a smile on your face.
The Deadly Stripper is a novella focused on Celee. Celee is not quite a vampire and not quite human. She must feed off vampires and is pretty much a vampire with a beating heart. I felt the basis of this story was good one and I do understand that world building and character development is extremely challenging in a novella. Diane Thorne did a good job in regards to character development. I felt that I had a pretty clear idea of what made Celee tick and understood the relationships that existed in The Deadly Stripper. Lots of sex was covered in the book and it was surely hot. I did feel like there was not much of a division between the two main men in the story. This was a downside to me. The Deadly Stripper did leave me wanting to know more about the world and characters.
This one has a nice premise but I feel like the story went nowhere. Maybe a second book is coming to continue it? I assumed our heroine would choose Gregor or Jay - but she doesn't. I needed some kind of closure or hints about the direction her romance is going - not just random sex with both men. I liked the heroine, and the action was ok, but while I followed the story, I didn't know where it was leading...and by the end it really led nowhere. I didn't understand Jay's part - and I wasn't too keen on the end when the heroine meets two men who change her course. Didn't quite do it for me.
Celee is a sorta-vampire who kicks demon ass and has a lot of sex. Seriously. I think she had sex four times (with two different men) in 24 hours.
Celee rocks.
She gets commissioned by a vampire named Greger to help find a missing girl and deliver her back to her parents. Greger is totally brickhouse and promises Celee ten years of blood (and also sex) if she helps find the girl.
I loved the main character in this story, she was a kick-arse heroine. The story was intriguing and held my attention for the most part.
I enjoyed that it was a 'darker' vamp story, but was let down by the ending. It felt like the author suddenly went, oh shit we need a happy ending, bring in the.....ops no spoilers.
In short the characters introduced in the end killed the story for me.
4.5 stars. I want want to read number 2 right now! I don't know what I was expecting from this book but I could never have dreamed it would have grabbed a hold of me and sucked me in the way it did! My only complaint is it was too short! Celee is one bad ass chick! I loved her!
This was a great surprise. I forgot how much I enjoy Diane Thorne's writing. She certainly excels at creating a feisty main character with a lot of strength and wit. Great world building in this story that is propelling me to read the next installment in the series.
Good story, but I spent a lot of it waiting for something good to happen. The sex was sizzling, but the unresolved things irritated me. I like where it could go from the ending, but not sure I possess enough of a desire to read the next part. I just wasn't impressed enough.
I love paranormal movies so I am uncertain as why I have difficulty reading paranormal books. The ending is truly what makes all that happens in this book...it brightens everything.
