Vance, the owner of the porn company, knows from the instant he sees Patrick that he and he alone should be the only one to ever touch the younger man. He tracks Patrick and offers him a job…off camera.

ONE & A HALF STARS--An extra 1/2 star for the cover.

I liked the premise.

But the execution?

description

Save yourself from the drama, prissiness and cheesiness of it all.

Why must good plots suffer from weak characters and bad dialogue?

description

I'm not going to describe anything else about this book. Just trust me on this one.

It's a DNF delight. Yet...I actually read this. Grr.

This story was written by two authors whose work I always check out when there's new story, so the both of them together was a must read for me.
Patrick and his two roommates and best friends Ronnie and Oliver are living hand to mouth and things are only getting worse.
This story has a lot of the cliches you would expect in a May-December romance, set with a porn studio backdrop, Patrick,is a twink, young and relatively inexperienced sexually, he was kicked out by his father for being gay and he is trying to keep himself and his friends off the street.
Vance Cullain is rich and successful in business, he has never lacked for men wanting to warm his bed, but as soon as he sees Patrick at the audition for one of his porn films, he knows this boy is to be his and he won't share him with anyone else, on or off screen.
Despite getting both POVs Patrick's personality and insecurities came through more than Vance's do, we learn of Patrick's anxiety and his need for meds on occasion, but that wasn't really explored or mentioned again, I know he feels responsible for his friends and wants to go back to school and become an architect. All I really got from Vance was that his niece is a brat and has him totally under her thumb and he runs an adult film company.
There is a bad guy who tries to drive a wedge between the lovebirds, and a in my opinion very annoying niece of Vance named Becca who has no real redeeming qualities, even if others might see her differently.
The misunderstanding and its resolution was a little weak, but this story is more of a light, fluffy, insta-lust Cinderfella type story with a hot toppy older guy and his cute younger boyfriend.
It made for a fast entertaining read.
I think the friends will also get their story, and I look forward to reading about them.

If you're looking for a somewhat cute, not too deep, often cheesy story about a porn company owner instantly falling for one of his auditioners, then this one is for you.

Patrick has just about hit rock bottom trying to keep he and his friends/roommates, Robbie and Oliver, afloat. Oliver had been in a bad car accident where he lost his boyfriend, is still dealing with the aftermath of his own injuries and has a mountain of healthcare bills to pay. Patrick and Robbie have been taking care of him but their money has run out.

Patrick decides to try out for porn, but the owner, Vince, decides he is exactly his type and calls the audition off in order to keep Patrick for himself. Here is where it starts to get a little cheesy. They hit it off, and Vince offers Patrick a job as his PA. All is well until Vince's other PA makes trouble.

Needless to say, this was aN easy read you don't have to get too involved in or think much about. The writing is smooth, and the story moves along quickly. I'm looking forward to reading about sweet Oliver's story next.

This story has a good potential to be great, but it doesn't live up its expectations. Things are quite fine until they MCs start dating. There's not much feelings in the story that it simply works mechanically. The bare bone is there, but that's it.

** Spoiler-riddled, I suppose. I’ll try to hide ’em. **

Well, I needed a break from the good books anyway. Whee…

Right away I’m confused. Patrick is adamant about not wanting to suck his boss off to keep his job, i.e. to whore himself out, but he (and his friend, too) finds the idea of doing porn, i.e. having sex with strangers for money, perfectly acceptable? I mean his attitude is just like, “*sigh* Oh well, might as well try it.”

Also. Patrick, honey, you’re at the audition for a porn flick. Even if you were to get the job, you would not be on the road to being a “porn star”. You’d just be a guy who’s done porn. A porn actor, if you want to make it sound better.
It seems to be a theme though. Everyone here (the professionals too) refer to him and any of the other tryouts or regulars as “stars”. Weird. The glamorous world of porn, I guess.

As Lane slid a hand down Patrick’s arm, Vance dreamily imagined ripping it from its socket.

Heh. Somehow I doubt the authors meant that Patrick’s arm would be rent off. Cause that’s what this says. Well, everyone has their own taste in… foreplay.

*sigh* I’m sorry, but Patrick simply strikes me as vapid, somewhat superficial, and, well, kind of stupid. It’s probably a good thing that “apparently Vance liked idiots”. Pity that I don’t.
*supersigh* So all he had was “one brief encounter” and yet he’s “experienced” enough to go for porn? Really? I forgot naïve. He’s definitely that.

The sex is quick, uninspired and somewhat unlikely.

Clearly I’ve been going into this with the wrong mindset because I only glimpsed at the blurb, wanting to avoid spoilers.
I dunno, I guess I expected a young man genuinely in need and not hung up on his pride and vanity, who enters an agreement to prostitute himself to this one man after he fails to get that porn job.
Instead

And argh, it says it’s been two months, then it says a couple of weeks. Which? I will have to guess weeks, huh? Otherwise things make even less sense than they do and that’s difficult enough to achieve. Except the months reference comes up again later. I give up.

Everyone’s motivations in this piece are ludicrous. Jeez. Talk about fabricated complications. My interest in these “people” is about to hit rock bottom when things go sour.
Finally I realize that these are all caricatures and this is a parody. Must be. Sadly, it’s not a clever one.

The whole money situation is ridiculous too. Debt, okay. But Patrick never puts that first. Weren’t they supposed to be super broke?

Overall, this was a huge disappointment. I kept looking for signs of Amber Kell in this book and found none. What I did find instead is awful stereotypes, writing that feels like summary rather than actual story, and not a speck of genuine emotion or perceivable connection between, well, anyone.
Idiot that I am, I will read the second volume too, because I already have it.

Yeah. Bad book mission achieved.

Normally I am a sucker for Amber Kell's love-at-first-sight writing style. However this book didn't work for me at all. I especially hated whatever cliche that pulled the niece out of.

Oh and the cover. I almost didn't buy the book because it's so bad.

A cute little read...nothing over the top considering it revolves around a porn studio. I was pleasantly surprised considering I'm not a fan of 'older hero' stories

The cover of this book is ghastly and does the story no justice. The story is actually quiet comforting and sweet. It isnt about two men who do porn, so it isnt a kind of 'Pretty Woman' story, rather it is about two men who find love in an unexpected place. A nice short read by two authors who are great at writing story series.

I wish I had liked this story. It has some cool elements: older guy taking care of younger, troubled man. But everything was superficial and I couldn't relate to any of the characters or their issues. It needed more depth to the characterizations for it to be meaningful to me.

Cute short story. I can't wait for Lane and Oliver's story, and I am very interested to see what happens to Ronnie. I hope he does end up trying out stripping.

The story was enjoyable although a bit too short for any good character development. I didn't like Becca at all. I thought she was a busybody and should have kept her nose out of other people's business unless they asked for it. I was expecting some sign of danger from Ross in retaliation to losing his job which didn't happen in this book.

Good story. I laughed so hard at the things Becca said and can't wait for the next story int his series. And I hope Ronnie does have a go(even as joke) at being a stripper

I like Patrick's loyalty to his friends and willingness to do any thing for his friends. The book is okay and the plot seems not as put together as i would hope but its okay for a quick read.

Not a huge Stephani Hecht fan, but if anyone knows of a good by her please let me know. This one was a GOOD READ, the covers a little cheesy. Story is nice, and the sex is even better.

A tad unrealistic and at times I laughed out loud over some really daft things. But it was romantic in a way and I adored Becca and Ronnie, one star for them two for the story.
