Rate this book
On the day you were born, you were imprinted with a plan and a purpose—elegant patterns that can be read to see who you really are and what your true calling is. And like your own personal tide table, the ebbs and flows of each phase of your life were set into motion on the day of your birth.
Based on ancient Chinese principles of balance and health, this book gives you a rich understanding of your hidden symmetry—the intricate inner design that influences who you are and how your life unfolds. This book is not about astrology or numerology; it is based on thousands of years of research about how time moves in natural patterns and profoundly affects your life. You can use this knowledge to discover the themes running through your life experience, tap into your core strengths, find lasting love, and do your best work in the world.
Jean Haner shows you how to ride the waves instead of fight the current of your life, learn how to make best use of what’s coming in future years, and understand why things happened as they did in the past. Jean will guide you to discover who you really came here to be, recognize the true nature of everyone you meet, and break free of old limitations—and create a life of conscious vitality, joy, ease and love!

"One of the beautiful gifts of discovering your hidden symmetry is the realization that there's a design to all of your various parts and pieces, that you are part of nature. You were intended to be exactly this just as the oak tree was designed to grow acorns. The oak tree has no angst about the acorns that sprout among its leaves. It doesn't cringe about the girth of its trunk, and it doesn't strive to be more like the eucalyptus next door. It is fully, vitally, joyfully oak. When you understand that you are one of nature's designs just like every living thing on this planet, and that your patterns have a purpose, it takes you out of your story - that background commentary that's been looping through your mind for decades about what's wrong with you and how you should change.
Nine Star Ki reveals the subtle details of your unique journey, but it also gives you an important gift: You were meant to be this way. You will always be this way... When you realize that none of this is something you personally caused or need to fix, when you recognize it as your intended design, then you no longer judge; you just allow and observe." chapter 14, pgs. 238 & 239

As a long time student of Astrology from various traditions, I only recently came across the Nine Star Ki system through an introductory class with Jean Haner. I was immediately attracted to its inherent and grounded 7,000 years of Wisdom which originated in India, moved through Tibet into to China and then eventually to Japan, where that culture refined it elegantly & simply. Upon reading this well laid out, comprehensive and groundbreaking book, I've augmented my Knowledge of Self significantly and gained further interpretative guidance for those Dear to me. The inclusion of Personal Seasons which allow you to perceive not only your current cycle but what cycles are ahead in any given year is a stellar method by which to strategize your Life Journey. And if that wasn't sufficient, Jean also included Affirmations by the luminous Louse Hay, which assist you in fostering your highest vibration within the numbers of your Life in this Birth. A book overflowing with revelations and epiphanies on every page, which will become a cherished reference guide for all those who Value Self Awareness!

This book is the biggest piece of crap I have ever read. From the description on the cover I thought it would be about pattern recognition based on birthdays, but it's not. It is very vague actually about what the theories are based on. I would never recommend this book. At least with astrology books theyes are at least interesting to read, this book could't even muster that up. Wonder if the writer will refund my money and pay me for the time I can never get back from reading this crap ?

I’m just not seeing the accuracy in this system. For example, I have a friend who shares the same numbers as me and we couldn’t be more different. Much like astrology, some things hit and some didn’t. Honestly, I could read any of the numbers, not just mine, and say the same.

I also don’t see the accuracy for others. For example, it says my husband will often give his energy to others to the point of exhausting himself. If you knew my husband, you would find this description laughable. He’s an Enneagram 5 through and through. He is very introverted and doesn’t believe in asking for help for fear that he will be asked to reciprocate. His ki description couldn’t be more off base if it tried

In Jean’s defense, she does recommend reading this book alongside her facial reading book for a more accurate picture. I may do that to see if my opinion changes.

That said, the book is fun and entertaining. I enjoyed playing with it, but didn’t see it as more than entertainment.

I found this book at a local library one day last year. It was hard to put down once I had picked it up off the shelf. This is the sort of book that really makes you think about your life and what you want to achieve as well. I recommend it to anyone who is doing a course in psychology. This book is a basic introduction to that too. Sort of. I was also introduced to the Nine Star Ki system. This is a new concept to me as I actually have never heard of it before so it was nice to have a explanation.

What do you want to do with your life? A word of warning, some of it is a little hard to believe however. Overall I recommend this book.

I am a 4.3.6 I really enjoyed learning more about Chinese medicine and the nine star ki I am always intrigued to know more about the traditional ways and how the calendars and just day to day makings of the universe impact us as individuals. it's a fun way to look at things and go into each year mindful of what that year has to offer and reflect on if we are in alignment or if we aren't.

this is a book you could look back on at each transition in life or each 'year' whatever that year point may be for you.

I read the book in Arabic & English, it is good. With time, I unveiled the meaning for the 3rd number, the life calling. I think there is more to that. I wish the writer would put a reference to learn more about the number meanings.

It is important to appreciate the complete book's value. Not only the numbers and personalities. Jane has put a lot of effort in explaining how everything plays out in a lifetime. The chapters beyond the numbers. They're worth your while.

This book is special in the way that it could lead to a journey of a more positive self reflection experience. I liked the idea of the affirmations and thought some of them to be really hitting the nail on the head.
It was fun to read something different than what i usually pick up and i really immersed myself and kept writing notes the entire time. Recommend it as a summer read because it needs your time and thinking capabilities.

I love this book! It is so helpful to explain certain things we all suffer from in our personalities. It also talks about what kind of year you may be having, and I go back again and again to look at that each year. Highly recommend!

honestly one of the most accurate personality assessments I've gotten. I've sold numerous copies of this book to friends because they were shocked at how accurate the description was of themselves.

Fascinating topic. Much of what I read about how I live my life based on my birthdate did indeed ring true. Now I have to read it again...for my friends and family members ;)

I received a complementary copy of this book from Hay House for review purposes. The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.

I’ve always been skeptical of systems that analyze personality type based on birth year. Those place mats you often see in Chinese restaurants come to mind, where a person’s temperament is described in detail depending on what year he or she was born. Everyone like me born in 1956, the year of the Rat, has the same personality? Really?? So I was hesitant at first to read Jean Haner’s “Your Hidden Symmetry: How Your Birth Date Reveals the Plan for Your Life”. I discovered the Nine Star Ki system described in the book is far more sophisticated than a simple birth year analysis.

Nine Star Ki has its roots in Chinese Energy Theory, the Yin and Yang system that is also the basis for Acupuncture and Feng Shui. I’ve received treatments from an acupuncturist for several years with great benefit. I recently finished reading and reviewing a book on Feng Shui that was also very worthwhile. “Hmmm, maybe there is something to Nine Star Ki,” I thought as I browsed the first few pages of Your Hidden Symmetry. I was intrigued and I read on.

Unlike those Chinese restaurant place mats, Nine Star Ki uses your birth month and day, in addition to the year, to give you three numbers as a guide to your personality type. My numbers came out to be “8.8.5″ – described in part as a “mountain” personality. Your Hidden Symmetry details the 81 different Nine Star Ki types. Was it accurate in my case? Here were some characteristics of my type as described in the book:

You’ll tend to be a deep thinker, perhaps with an interest in philosophy or personal growth, and you’ll need to think through decisions slowly and carefully. (check)

You love to study and learn and may have an extensive library in your home, take seminars, or do self-development work. And because you’re so nurturing, you’ll want to teach people what you’ve learned or in some way use all your accumulated wisdom to help them discover their own hidden treasure and become the best they can be. (check)

You tend to be quiet and people may complain that you’re hard to get to know. (check)

You usually appear calm and quiet and aren’t easily provoked, but there are times the mountain can turn into a volcano! (yep, that’s me)

I found Your Hidden Symmetry remarkably accurate in characterizing my own personality. As an added bonus the book includes affirmations from Hay House founder Louise Hay tailored to each personality type.

I liked the overall “go with the flow” theme of Your Hidden Symmetry and the Nine Star Ki system. “Trust the process,” Haner writes, “attempting to force your will on life only drains your energy and can block wonderful things that are trying to come to you, if you’ll just stop and allow.”

“You were born with a unique spirit that is yours and yours alone, yet which is also a part of the greater patterns of the whole of nature,” the author says. Your Hidden Symmetry is a good tool to understand your strengths and areas for growth. Haner concludes the book with wise words for anyone to follow:

“The more fully you can embrace yourself for who you really are, the more you can move into a place of confidence and compassion, where you can fulfill your sacred purpose in the world. I’ll meet you there.”

I found Jean Haner's new book Your Hidden Symmetry: How Your Birth Date Reveals the Plan for Your Life very interesting and Insightful. Her system is based in ancient Chinese medicine, a unique combination of dates and cycles of life that isn't quite astrology and isn't quite numerology either. It takes a little getting used to, but is absolutely fascinating. I quickly found myself figuring out the numbers on my family and friends, and often stunned at the accuracy. Reading my own 3 numbers in the Nine Star Ki System, I was blown away. This personally revealing reading cleared up a few issues I've never quite gotten a hold on until now. I'm beyond intrigued, and feel a deep enough gratitude to the author, that I plan on reading her other books as well. I received this book for free from Hay House Publishing for review purposes.

I really enjoyed this book. So much so, that I will be purchasing my own copy. I went into it with a grain of salt and found myself nodding...frequently.

How this knowledge was tabled I find perplexing. I wonder about its authenticity and accuracy and yet find it to be quite accurate looking up my own birthdate and of those close to me.

I recommend reading this book.

It's amazing how spot on this book was. My numbers were spot on with my personality, and my years were correct too! I looked up my husband's info, and it was correct too. Kind of weirded me out because usually these things are not so accurate.

This book is good. There is good information. Some feels like it fits but some not so much. In my opinion The Divine Triangle book is a better resource to reference to from year to year of your life but this book does give you the same kind of framework.
