Dress like a star, get that supermodel body, and learn to treat your man like Kareena does! Kareena Kapoor was born to be a superstar! She has single-handedly introduced an entire nation to size zero and become the highest paid actress of her time. In The Style Diary of a Bollywood Diva, the ultimate glamour girl lets you into her fabulous life. She reveals her best-kept secrets, tips, and tricks. Follow Kareena as she goes from being a chubby teenager accompanying her sister on shoots to transforming into the hottest leading lady on screen today.
A member of the fourth generation in the Kapoor acting dynasty, Kareena Kapoor made her film debut in 2000. Kapoor has established herself as an award winning actress and style icon. Kapoor married actor and Nawab (honorary prince) of Pataudi, Saif Ali Khan in 2012.
Kareena Kapoor, though not really a trend-setter, is almost always well-dressed. I noticed her experimental and interesting styling during the promotions of ‘Heroine’. Earlier, her Manish Malhotra dresses and saris were fashionable but they never stood out. To her credit, she did spark media frenzy for Size Zero because it was too drastic and shocking, considering she was chubby earlier.
The book has high production value (like a coffee table book) with lots of glossy pictures, although I am not such a huge fan of the cover page image of the lady (it looks ghostly/ pallid and not diva-esque). The font size on the back cover is also too big. But the book makes up with lots of gorgeous pictures – old and new, published and unpublished, glamorous and simple. The book also has a lot of doodled drawings which render the feel of a diary. The pages are in shades of pink.
The book has Kareena’s distinct voice and personality – unapologetic, undiplomatic and straightforward. It reminds so much of that line from Jab We Met, which translates to – “I am my biggest fan” and Kareena Kapoor is! It comes out very clearly in this book as well as in all her interviews. She has always been extremely confident, even as a newcomer. The book is chatty, conversational and confiding.
When I first read about this book, I was curious because it was something new. I don’t remember any other Bollywood actress writing about her style secrets. Which girl wouldn't want to know the style secrets of a Bollywood heroine who lives a life of glamour and style, and who is spoilt for choices?
I would say I have mixed views about this book, and whenever I feel that way, I jot down ‘what worked for me’ and ‘what did not’, to be fair to the book and to give an indication to the potential readers on what to expect.
WHAT I LIKED > Tonnes of fabulous pictures – beautiful, glamorous and many from personal collection > Neatly organized into 4 sections: Body Basics – Growing up years, Size Zero, diet plan, workouts, Yoga asanas, exercising while you travel, food, etc. Fashion Fabulous – her favourite looks from films and how to get them, personal favourites / style, fashion tips, different kinds of clothing, favourite brands and shopping destinations Beauty Truths – Hair care / skin care / personal beauty tips and tricks, everyday maintenance and grooming, make up, understanding your best profile to look good in pictures Man Power – snippets from her love life, making your relationship work, dressing and grooming your man and gifting right to your love > Snippets from personal life like how she plans her travel, her favourites, her growing up years, her relationships, creating looks for her films, preparing for big events, etc.
WHAT I DID NOT LIKE > Repetitiveness, like her favourite destination is Gstaad, she is a winter person, blessed with good skin and so on and so forth > Exaggeration about sparking trends on how her looks from movies and public events were copied soon after. As far as I am aware, Kareena can take credit for Size zero frenzy and Long kurta with Patiala from the movie Jab We Met (which also was Imtiaz’s idea) > Digressions from the book’s main topic like planning your wedding (!); detailed information on various types of everything – inner wear, Indian dresses, gowns, shoes, bags; dressing for office (!). > A lot of common style and fashion tips > Dilution of the main focus of the book : Trying to tell us the behind-the-scene story on Kareena Kapoor’s styling, and her tricks and tips; and also trying to be a fashion guide to a normal girl. The book should have focused on Kareena’s style and her favourites, and not attempt to bring out her ‘normal girl’ side, because there are no parallels between her lifestyle and a normal young girl’s. We cannot buy those brands or designer wears (forget about custom-made) neither can we shop on Net-a-Porter.
Frankly, I don’t know what I was expecting from this book because largely a star is as stylish as her stylist.
This book will certainly appeal to Kareena Kapoor's fans. The fashion and style enthusiasts may only end up pointing out the abundance of common information and tips in the book.
This book was just a gigantic research project for Rochelle Pinto. She went through all the Kareena Kapoor interviews she could get her hands on and put them together into a book which is little more than a glorified magazine. Pushing Kareena Kapoor as a high flying, low maintenance celebrity with a heart of gold got to me after some time. Yes, we know she has perfect skin, perfect hair, perfect pedigree, perfect relationships, perfect style, perfect vacations, perfect staff...in short, we know she's the epitome of perfection, but then, maybe we just don't want to hear her saying it over and over again for 600 pages. Not even Kareena Kapoor fans should read this one.
A very cute book :) A must have for Kareena fans - for all the gorgeous pics of hers in the book and also for those who want a quick guide on everything from Yoga to types of clothes to shoes and also how to dress up!!!!
I have always been a big big fan of Kareena Kapoor. There was a time when i collected her best pictures in her best dresses. She was always in my dp be it whatsapp or facebook. I love her fashion sense and the way she carries herself so confidently. That’s the reason I badly wanted to read this book.
This book begins with her childhood life. What will you find in this book? Size zero phase of her life, her costumes in movies, brands she loves, fashion advice for each type of garment, her diet plan and list of suryanamaskars she performs, travel advice, her beauty routine and lastly her relationship with Saif and some tips for couples.
Since i am a big fan of Kareena, i found myself intrigued in this book except where she lists the diet plan and all the Yoga Aasanas and the way they are to be performed. I don’t think that was necessary as I couldn’t understand any aasana even after her description of each one. I ‘d rather watch a youtube video to learn and perform them.
Her advice on brands that are way too expensive was also not helpful because duh i am not Kareena and can’t afford those brands.
But other than I really enjoyed this book and could literally see her persona in her writing.
Whether it's tips on food, makeup or what have you, it's all out there for you to read. If you absolutely can't stand to read the whole book, pick out the text boxes and read their content for some interesting must-know mantras that could get you through the trickiest of everyday situations.
An average read. The beginning had me intrigued and as I read on it sounded like a very basic style guide, the sort anyone could come up with.
I am a huge Bollywood fan and Kareena Kapoor has her highpoints for sure but this book is quite unnecessary. The glossy pinkish pages along with pictures make it different. Buy a copy if you're a die hard Kareena fan!
Reading this book after Prasad Kothari sir's article on movie analytics which mentions the actress Kareena - https://www.kdnuggets.com/2013/12/mov...... Great book. Absolutely loved it.
If you are fan of Kareena Kapoor and her lifestyle, fitness methods and fashion, then this is a good book for you.
Being a fitness trainer for women, I was curious about her method to get her body for Tashaan, of course. So that section was enlightening. It was the standard model runway-ready body conditioning on food restrictions and body conditioning, beyond it's comfort zone. I am impressed with her ability to pull that off, given her propensity to food and not being a fan of workouts.
I liked her fashion tips, despite not being a fashionista myself.
You have to be a fan of Kareena Kapoor to like this book and keep it interesting.
My version from Amazon was missing pages 251-258, for some reason.
I have never really considered reading any book a waste of time, this one changes that! An extremely tedious read. Yes,she's glamorous and all that but unfortunately Kareena Kapoor ends up sounding like is an over the top, attention seeking teenager trying to act all grown up. Reading most of it made me Cringe ! Narcissistic much ! Really,Young girls need a better role model than Miss Vanity is thy name.
A good read - well thought out and put together. Take the contents with a grain of salt though as I am not sure one would consider Kareena Kapoor a "style icon" - her personal style is largely hit and mostly miss. Fame as far as movie costumes go should perhaps be attributed more to the movie's stylists and costume designers than in her ability to carry them off on screen.
Personal life has not been dealt honestly and it is just a style diary as the name says.Very few pages are informative.Loved her pictures in her skinny avatar. The choice of pictures is tasteful.Happy to read all her dieting secrets and tips but the book is too pricey.
Its recommended for persons interested in styling yourself. Must read for them who are passionate about clothing, hair styling and other customary things.
