“Perkataan Malaysia telah digunakan sejak abad Ke-19 . untuk merangkumi semua pulau-pulau dari hujung barat (laut Sumatra merentasi pulau-pulan paling timur, sehingga menjangkau Kepulauan Rempah [Pada] tahun 1961 nama ini dihidupkan semula... bagaimanapun ia hanya merupakan satu sudut yang kecil daripada Malaysia yang lebih besar yang pernah dirujukkan pada masa silam”.

The book did a lot of things very well. One of them is having a great introduction to the complex history of Malaysia. It was engaging, informative and beautifully illustrated as well. There’s many pictures and diagrams in this book that will definitely captured kids’ attention to it. There's a lot that Tunku Halim leaves out, but this is still a good coverage of Malaysia History. Personally, I would have preferred more visuals and fun facts inserted in every single pages considering it is an encyclopaedia but this is still informational at the end of the day. I think any Malaysian parents will find the book a great medium to teach our history. Even if you are not Malaysian and wanted to teach your kids about Malaysia, this is comprehensive enough to give the overall basic ideas of this country from its Pre and Post Independence, ethnicities, culture and tradition. I can say that the descriptions of the events / people / tradition were easy to understand and well presented. I would have given this 5 stars if its not for one error mentioning that Parameswara married Hang Li Po Princess in the page 65. It was supposed to be Sultan Mansur Shah. Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a fun time learning about Malaysia. It is appropriate for young readers and even if you are an adult, you may find some new information to fill gaps in your historical knowledge. P/s: This book is a translated from its english version. Those who wanted it in english, you can find it in a bookstore.

Excellent book which I bought for my kids, but ended up reading it as well. Good coverage, enabling the reader to do his/her own further research. Very neutral historical perspectives and also offers any foreigner wishing to understand Malaysia an excellent introduction.
