Harry is Em, Aggie, and Oralee's five-year-old brother - sweet, adorable, and an absolute genius at making trouble. Especially now, when the four children are lost in the wilderness. And not just in any wilderness, but in an enchanted forest where anything can happen. Next thing they know, Harry has changed into a huge, scary, hairy beast who calls himself Rosebud. And Rosebud, with Harry inside him, really could drive the whole world crazy.
I'd love my friends to read this and tell me if they think I should figure out a way to get it in print again. It's my favorite of my Mom's books. Turn it into a Kindle, somehow? I have a secret wish for a certain illustrator...if we decide the book is worth the effort involved... The book is wild, funny, punny, emotional, hopeful, and the ending is a nicely equivocal. Mostly I love the story and love the writing.
I didn't like this one. It felt disjointed and difficult to follow. I thought the storyline lacked something, as well. An accident-prone little boy is going to bring the entire world to its knees? C'mon.
My kids really enjoyed it, though, so I couldn't rate it as low as I wanted. I guess it made for an "ok" read-aloud.
