Andy Fairmain has been struggling with a secret, one he only recently shared with his best friend and future leader, Brios Parde. It’s a secret that causes Andy to question his future happiness and position in Shalea, but one which he can no longer hide. Especially now, when the boy of his dreams has just asked him out!

Andy has always known the thrill of being Shalean, of transforming into his leopard form and running free with his friends and family. Lately, there have been strange things afoot within Shalea and battles with darker powers have left all the younger members a bit shaken. Andy has seen how powerful the bonds of love can be when you meet your true partner, because even if Leira doesn’t want to be partnered to Donny, she cannot avoid it forever and then there are Rachel and Brios. So wonderfully matched and assured of future happiness. But what chance is there for a young gay man to find happiness in the bloodline? And would an outsider be truly accepted? He’s about to find out, when Sam – handsome, kind and owner of a killer smile – finally takes the initiative and asks him on a date. Unfortunately, the darker element has no intention of leaving our young Shaleans alone and Sam soon finds himself swept up in the drama. Will this strengthen his love for Andy or kill off any chance of romance before it has a chance to begin?

The topic of gay romance is a delicate one, especially when the target audience are young adults. This story handles it deftly and delicately, neither hiding the issues, nor preaching about them, thereby allowing you to make up your own mind. In fact, the tale is so subtly woven that you soon forget that the core characters are both boys. It takes a deft hand to accomplish that.

Once again, J Lilley leaves us on the edge of our seats and clamouring for book four in the series. This truly is an author to add to your “must read” lists.
