Rate this book
In Peter Read Miller on Sports Photography, the 30-year Sports Illustrated veteran photographer takes you into the action of many of his most iconic shots, relating the stories behind the photos of some of the world's greatest athletic events, including the Olympics and the Super Bowl.

Discussing the circumstances surrounding particular shots, Peter shares observations of the athletes themselves, and provides tips and techniques for sports photographers of all levels looking to capture great photos of football, track and field, gymnastics, and swimming, as well as dynamic portraits of athletes. Unlike photo collections by other greats of sports photography, this book seamlessly interweaves the images and the fascinating stories
behind them with photographic instruction, while giving you an inside look at what it's like to work at the nation's leading sports publication.

Beautifully illustrated with images from the Olympics, football, and portrait sessions with professional athletes, this book offers a rich and inspiring experience for sports photographers, sports fans, and Sports Illustrated readers.

For those who like sports and photography, you’ll be very pleased reading this book. You’ll learn some techniques that you’ll consider using whenever you take out your camera and apply them to your photo shoots. The process in how Sports Illustrated creates their photos is awesome. For the person who likes sports (especially football) you’ll go through some photos that will make you reminisce about where you were as the photos were taken. A great read overall, highly recommended.

Excellent photos and enjoyable writing - some good laughs along the way. The man has an incredible capacity to make stunning photos and does a good job explaining what he was thinking while also laying out the real life of a sports photog. He has inspired me with some of his work and descriptions of how he approaches events.

I would have liked some more technical details - now just that he uses safety cables in remotes, but a better sense of how they are set up. Or maybe how he handles exposure - aperture priority most of the time or manual? When shooting a back and forth game like soccer, how does he ensure the exposure is right when one direction is backlit and the other frontlit?

I guess some things we have to figure out on our own =)
