Jess is smashing her Edinburgh events management job right now. Her boss is talking about a promotion, her clients love her and other companies want her. But all of that comes to an abrupt halt when her brother has a sudden stroke. Jess doesn’t think twice about stepping in as his carer, but her boss is not so understanding. Demoted to managing low-end events, Jess is less than thrilled to be assigned to a small animal park in need of raising funds. She’s even less happy when she clashes with arrogant head keeper, Nick . He's frustrated with her squeamishness; she thinks he’s a lech. Nick wants a baggage-free life; Jess has so much drama going on, even the Kardashians can’t keep up. This book was an easy read. The writing style was good. Jess & Nick's first encounter may not have been pleasent, but now they have to encounter each other on a daily basis because they find out that they work for the same company. The enemies to lovers part was good and the book was going on well until the 87% mark. I wasn't really invested after the part as much as I had been before tbh. It was a good read but I did not like Jess and her judgemental attitude, she single handedly fucked up her life by complicating simple things tbh. Though the last chapter was very cute and blissful.

I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review

The cover and synopsis do not do this book justice — it was SO much better than I could have even hoped for!

Jess is a highly-driven businesswoman, whose career takes an unexpected turn when her brother experiences a life-altering event. Nick is a zookeeper, who is still carrying wounds and healing from his previous relationship. When their lives intersect at the zoo where Nick works, it’s the start of a beautiful love story.

The setting for this novel was impeccable. I don’t know how no one, at least in my experience, has thought to write a romance novel at a zoo, not to mention one in the beautiful countryside of Scotland! The characters were a little quirky but all felt real and deeply lovable. I appreciated the authors commentary on the way we view people with disabilities and how we need to change the narrative there.

My one critique is the main character’s “best friend” played a very random and seemingly unnecessary and sporadic role throughout the story, so I think we could have done without her.

I don't know why I waited so long to read this book as I thoroughly enjoyed it. I spent the majority of a long flight devouring Jess' injustices through her work journey and read about her finding love again. It was such a fantastic read and I credit the author at writing such an addictive book that I found difficult to put down.

I really enjoyed this enemies to lovers romance!

If you’re looking for an easy read that you can immerse yourself into then look no further. Nina really knows how to get you hooked, upon being introduced to the MCs on this book I fell in love with Jess, she’s such a relatable character who I was rooting for from the start.

The forced proximity trope is *chefs kiss* and I loved reading Jess and Nicks love story, there was tension, the grumpiness from Nick, this book delivered everything I could have asked for and more.

I hope to read more by Nina in the future!

I want to thank Nina Kaye, Canelo and NetGalley for this ARC read.

This book was a nice surprise for me. It was a very fast, cute and fun read for me that I can recommend to others.

We follow the main character Jess who is very career driven, she handles a lot of larger clients at work and she is on top of her game. One day she gets a call informing her that her brother Seth had a stroke. Since their parents don't live near them, she decides to get a hold of them to let them know what has happened. She soon finds out they could care less about them, something they always joked about but never thought to be true. All they want to do is to throw money at them to clear their conscious for abandoning their kids when they need them most, why have kids if this is how you treat them? Shame on them. Due to her parents lack of compassion and responsibility, Jess is now the main carer of her brother. Jess soon realizes this is all a lot, girl I feel you, and needs to go part time at work to properly take care of her brother. She is still willing to bend backwards for this company but of course... her boss Craig is a dick and could care less about his employee.

WOW, big shocker I bet? Just kidding, this is how I feel like everyone gets treated at work nowadays.

Eye-rolling-biggie GIFs - Get the best GIF on GIPHY

But fuck Craig because the story isn’t about him!

So needless to say, Jess is having a ROUGH day after dealing with all this and needs a good cry. This stranger happens to see her going through something and checks on her to see if she is doing okay and to get something to drink. Getting hit on is the LAST thing Jess is wanting right now and tells this stranger off.

Fast forward...

Jess gets assigned to a low-end event to try and save this animal enclosure who has fallen into hard times. She goes to this meeting to help them keep afloat until they can get a loan but… what would you know? She runs into no one other than Nick, that stranger who hit on her at the hospital on one of the worst days of her life and boy do they both look very unhappy to see each other. I will not say more, just pick up this book!

Onto my thoughts...

I enjoyed how the book takes place in an animal enclosure because I have not read any romance books with this setting before. I did like the characters but I wish I could have learned a little more about them and got to see them really connecting through their time of having to work together because their story felt a little short for me, I just like a lot of character development.

I'm not going to lie, this book did make me cry a little because some of this did hit a little close to home for me.. but a good cry never hurt anyone, ask Jess!!

I feel like this book teaches us that life just happens and you have to go along with it, it won't stop when times become hard. You will learn who is actually there for you when you need them and who isn't. Letting go of toxic people is okay, even if they are family, life is too short to keep people who don’t have your back at the end of the day. It is in times like these that you need to be strong and move forward, because life sure as hell won't stop and wait for you.

Okay enough of that.

Feeling-awkward GIFs - Get the best GIF on GIPHY

I will recommend this to others and would not mind a second book diving more into Jess and Nick's relationship. Maybe even finding a love interest for Lauren or someone else in the group, just an idea!!

Nina Kaye has done it again with this captivating read!
Jess is an event manager. Not any old event manager but a brilliant one. She's heading places in her industry. People are trying to headhunt her.
Then a tragedy in her personal life means she has to scale back on her work, leaving her with some less than favourable minor events to organise, rather than the big glitzy ones she has been used to.
And to top it off, she gets to her new main client and has to deal with a grumpy grouch of a man, there too, who seems hell-bent on making her life a misery... or is he?
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, especially as it had not only a build-up of romance and enemies to lovers but cute animals! And how could it not, since the majority of it is set in a wildlife reserve?
Jess is torn between wanting to be the best in her job and fulfilling family duties. I truly felt for her throughout.
Then you have Nick, the grouchy grouch head keeper at the reserve, with whom she has to work closely... Tensions simmer and are built up fantastically through Kaye's writing.
There is a very sensitive portrayal of learning how to live with a disability and how caring for someone suddenly incapacitated can take its toll on your life.
A fantastic read that I would recommend.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Canelo for an ARC.

[Thank you NetGalley and Canelo Publishing for the opportunity to read and review Just Like That.]

In this book we follow Jess, an events manager from Edinburgh who is on top of her game. Unfortunately, her brother becomes ill and due to the poor support system that she has from her family, she is put in a position where she has to take a step back from work so that she can help with is recovery. Being taken off big projects is a bitter pill to swallow, and the low profile jobs that her company now have her working on don't excite her. Luckily, the zoo her company send her to is home to the very handsome but very grumpy head keeper, Nick. They don't see eye to eye from the start, but it's not long before their relationship starts to grow.

I'm sad to say that this book was not for me. I enjoyed the Edinburgh setting, it's nice to see my home city represented. And I enjoyed the scenes with animals; the focus on the importance of conservation made me want to visit my local zoo to show my support. But those are the only positives I can find. I found Jess and Nick to be quite unlikeable, Jess in particular came across as unreasonable sometimes. I also had issues with the dialogue which felt unnatural at points, and the progression of Jess and Nick's relationship which felt rushed.

However, I'm confident that there are a lot of people that would really enjoy Just Like That, and this is perhaps more or an 'it's not you, it's me' situation. If you love enemies to lovers, rooting for the underdog (in this case, a struggling zoo with adorable animals), and a career driven female lead, then check out this book.

Because of that she has to work less hours and days , so her boss gives her no big events but low cases events . Now her new event is at East Lothian Wildlife Park . One of the staff is Nick the head keeper the man she meet after she learn about her brother outside the hospital and she thought he was hiting on her . Now they have to work together so the park will be able to stay open . With the help of Rana a sun bear Jess and Nick will came closer but when she learns about his divorce she keeps from him the situation about her brother . Will jess be able to save the park and be honest to Nick ?

Just Like That was exactly what it promised to be - a perfect feel good romance. As someone who has worked in events in the past I had so much fun reading about Jess’ work and how she was navigating it. In this book there were several times where I wanted to grab her by the shoulders and shake her asking what she was thinking as she avoided telling Nick things during their relationship. But that frustration paid off with a super sweet and well written ending. I loved that Jess made mistakes that seems incredibly human and realistic for a person who is going through a life change like becoming a caregiver for her brother.

I loved Nick as a mmc, I always love a grumpy but is actually a sweetheart on the inside male lead. And I loved the world that was built in this book. I want to go to this fictional wild life park and be friends with the staff.

Overall this book was a really sweet closed door romance and a wonderful pick me up.

Thank you to NetGalley, Canelo and Nina Kaye for providing me a e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

ARC REVIEW: SMILES ALL AROUND!

This book is a heartwarming read that easily puts a smile on the reader's face when reading it. Kaye has created a book full of strength, optimism, trust & determination. The main character, Jess, is right on track with her life and career as an events planner however her entire world turns upside down after her brother has a stroke. Jess is determined to make everything work out. Being assigned to a project for a Wildlife Park she puts everything she has into each day. Still, Jess struggles with her two sided life - protecting her brother after his stroke - and doing her job (plus falling in love) without allowing her personal life to spill into her work. Along the way, Jess has to spend a great deal of time working with a very grumpy Nick. Nick introduces Jess to the most adorable Sun Bear & there is the topic of conservation weaved throughout the story. Nick has issues with trust, Jess is afraid she abused his trust & eventually it all culminates to the point where she is forced to find a way to be happy in her life, in her career & in herself. make sure to read this book - it will definately lift your spirits and put a smile on your face.

Thank you NetGalley for providing this advanced reader copy. This book was a challenging read for me, not because I disliked it, but because it touched on a personal issue that I will explain shortly. The book is a romance novel with a strong female lead and a sweet but grumpy love interest. Jess is an event planner who loves her job and her life in Edinburgh. But everything changes when her brother has a sudden stroke and she has to move back to her hometown to take care of him. There she meets Nick, the head keeper of a small animal park that needs her help to raise funds. Nick is arrogant and rude, but he has a soft spot for Jess. This book was a roller coaster of emotions for me, as it reminded me of my own experience when my mom got sick and I had to change jobs to be with her. It brought back a lot of painful memories for me. I think I would have enjoyed this book more if it wasn’t for that. Please be aware of the trigger warnings for this one1

This is my first Nina Kaye novel and I really can’t wait to read more. This book is a cute romance plot set in Scotland, with the back drop of the animal enclosure. The narrative is fast paced and I liked the miscommunication and enemies to lovers trope. It was a little frustrating at times to deal with the FMC’s constant misunderstanding and lack of communication but the other characters such as MMC, FMC’s brother, best friend and colleagues all make up for it.

Just Like That explores some hard hitting and emotional topics such as disability and parental estrangement which added a lot of depth to the plot. I thoroughly enjoyed this read and I highly recommend this to other romance enthusiasts.

BOOK REVIEW:

AUTHOR:
● Just Like That by Nina Kaye

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5

Just Like That is a super fun book filled with drama, comedy and warm romance. Nina Kaye has created the perfect romance set in wildlife that depicts healing, love and everything sweet. Every single one of the characters created an impact. Jess and her brother have a great bond, but when he gets a stroke, this is altered by Jess's overprotectiveness. Nick has had a bad past with his ex-wife and has sworn of relationships. Jess has managed to open his heart but the emotional baggage that she comes with is what Nick has been avoiding.

I knew, looking at the cover, then the blurb, that this was exactly my kind of read! I won't lie, when Seth had his accident, I found it quite difficult to carry on reading because I'm currently going through a very similar experience. However, I knew that I couldn't let that fact get in the way of a book I thought I'd love, and love it I did!
Nick was everything you need in your romantic leading man. He also provided some real comic moments.
Jess, at times, I just wanted to give a good shake to! She definitely redeemed herself and showed that she was misguided in her ways.
I absolutely loved the setting. A book in Scotland is always a big tick in my eyes, but a wildlife park with some gorgeous animals thrown in definitely makes a winner to me. Red pandas are my favourite, so I particularly enjoyed it when Jess met one.
It's a fast-paced read, I devoured it in less than 24 hours. I won't hesitate to read more by this author!

I expected some kind of twist, but didn't expect it to play out the way it did, so the unpredictability was good too.

I enjoyed the book very much I couldn't put it down which led to me finishing it in one day.

Though I found some parts a bit cringey and could've been left out but that did not take away from the story which is a beautiful one at that.

I do have mixed feelings about Jess I love how selfless caring and intelligent she is, I also understand the struggles she was facing and that her decisions and mistakes were human that being said I simply feel that she's overly judgmental and although the hurt she caused was resolved but that came at a late part of the book it didn't leave much space for character growth (specifically on page).

Nick was a sweetheart although seen as grump by most but he's a soft and feeling person on the inside, and the fact he's that way to protect himself from being hurt again adds a since of relatability to his character.

Overall I enjoyed the book and I would definitely recommend it to a friend, thank you Netgalley and Canelo for this arc.

This is an easy to read, strangers to lovers romance book. The writing flowed nicely, and it is a fast read. I enjoyed the setting for this book. Animal conservation is important, and I felt that all the characters really loved and cared for the animals. Jess was a tad bit annoying by keeping secret that she had a brother who had a stroke, and she was helping to care for him. I understand it’s personal, but that is something that should be revealed if you plan on dating someone. But I loved Nick’s reaction to learning the information, he reacted perfectly! I think the author was very careful with handling someone with a disability, and she really makes you think about how you treat those with disabilities. This made the book more than just your average romance novel; it made it so much better. If you like romance books, animals, and an author skillfully writing a character with disabilities, this book is for you!

This book was enjoyable, and easy to read, but maybe a bit too long.

I appreciated the character development we get to see in Jess when her life is flipped upside down due to her brother’s health and she has to rewrite her plans. The relationship that grows between nick (the grumpy head keeper) and her was drawn out and played out organically.

If you like animals, a grumpy MC, and a career-driven FMC, I think you will really enjoy this.

I really enjoyed this story!

What started as a misunderstanding turned in to a slow burn romance

I thought that there was a good storyline and that the book was well written, it had a great flow to the story that kept me turning the pages.

The characters were well developed and ones that you could really relate too.

It is 4 stars from me for this one - highly recommended!

'A lovely return to the world of Nina Kaye. A feel-good, bookish romance that is perfect & wholesome. Simple but satisfying' - The British Bibliophile

*Thank you to Net Galley for providing me with an ebook Advanced Readers Copy for me to read and leave an honest review*

I first came by Nina Kaye while picking up One Night in Edinburgh from a local Facebook Marketplace listing. The book's cover captivated me to see what the book was all about--aside from the obviousness on the cover--, and give a new to me author a chance. Unfortunately, the copy sold before I could get my hands on it but I did not despair! I grabbed a copy from Amazon and dove right on in.

One Night in Edinburgh was a pleasant introduction to Nina Kaye, and I just happened to spot an ARC for this read on Net Galley and decided to hop on the opportunity to see if I would like any of her other novels. I'm very pleased to say that I did.

Just Like That is what it says on the tin. Or rather, the tagline. It's a perfectly good feel-good romance that did indeed make me smile. I can't ask for anything more than that out of a romance, in its essence. As much as smut, steam and spice are in equal demand in my reading repertoire, it's good to dip your toes back into the humble, the romanic and the feel-good. I love a book that can make me laugh, but I also love one that can make me smile and I'm so happy that this was the book to do it.

Jess is as real to life as a book character can get. She's taking her job in her stride when life throws one of its massive curveballs and her priorities and commitments have to change. She doesn't think to put herself first, but instead puts the person who needs her the most first which in itself is very admirable. Like in the real world, her boss was not as understanding of her decision. Jess was able to be herself, make mistakes and came across to myself at least, as 'very human'. She wasn't simply written to be a book character full of all the stereotypical things seen in and across many books, her realism is her biggest compliment and Nina did a wonderful job in creating and writing about her.

Nick...oh Nick. He's the grumpy to her sunshine and I can speak for myself and other readers when I say we love book men like Nick. He's all grumpy and gruff on the outside but on the inside? A whole different story. A different side to the man. The fun for both Jess and myself was seeing the development in Nick to show that side TO Jess when he felt comfortable enough to do so. He's not afraid to admit that he wants a baggage-free life--as horrible as that sounds, it's honest--, and he's not going to get that with Jess. Yet, she seems to be the exception to that steadfast rule.

Jess & Nick are your typical not-so-meet-cute couple, and I loved getting to know them both and how they were going to navigate life together after Jess' assignment to the animal park that Nick is the head keeper of. There are pitfalls, speed bumps, times where you want to jump through the page and yell the obvious at a character but in essence, Just Like That was a read you need when you need a pick-me-up when our bookish world--or real--gets too heavy.

Strap yourselves in for a story in the East Lothian Wildlife Park, where it isn't the animals who are the only ones that have claws.

Four stars!

4.5/5 stars!

Be prepared to spend your time reading this, it is addictive!

I found myself unable to put this down.
Watching the main character Jess go from a high powered position in her job to being demoted and watching her annoying boss Craig use the excuse of her caring for her ill brother Seth but we got to see her take on these smaller projects and the friendships that spark for her at the Wildlife park.

However I didn’t like her constant attitude of ‘why am I being given this job it is way beneath me’ when she should accept it more so at times for what it is instead. She did enjoy this project but she would have more so if she didn’t worry as much.

When Jess’s brother was first ill, she presumed this man, Nick was flirting with her with how he was coming across. But Jess has a bit of a temper and she was proper rude to him! Then, as she got demoted, the wildlife project happens to include this attractive man who was very verbal and clear of what he thought of her.
They eventually get on as she attempts to help them find a new revenue scheme for their park as they are close to closing.
Nick shows her the animals and getting her to feed them including Rana. It was adorable how attached they became and seeing what Rana and the others plus with the nature vibes of this novel and how it calmed Jess down she became a different person for the better at times.

The ideas: the animal style personality quiz and being matched based on your animal? Such a unique and fun idea! I’m the opposite of single but even I would love to have fun things like this going on in the wild life parks / zoos we have here.

As the novel progressed and things take a downward spiral for Jess we see her finally reflecting upon her decisions and the consequences they have and watched how she became more grateful and in the moment more so by the end.

Watching new friendships form in different ways for Jess and watching her getting on with Laura, Gwen, Allison and the rest was just lovely in how it was written. There was quite the dynamic between all the different characters.

Some twists and turns that I wasn’t completely expecting.
This is a very emotional book, from health problems to career dilemmas and useless parents. This novel quite warmed my heart .
An uplifting read that will put a smile on your face.
Plus, it has animals in it, have I got you hooked yet?

The average rating for this one needs to be higher.
I absolutely enjoyed this and certainly look forward to Nina’s other novels, in particular the Gin Lover’s Guide To Dating! A new favourite author.

So glad to have received this ARC in exchange for my honest words.

Thanks to Netgalley and Canelo Romance for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Just Like That is the first book I’ve read by Nina Kaye. I was initially drawn by the title and colorful cover.

Unfortunately, even though I wanted to really like this story, it dragged on and was a struggle to read. It could have benefitted from some editing and rewrites as there was entirely too info dumping at the beginning. Instead of showing the reader, Ms. Kaye relies too much on telling.

I wanted to like Jess, as I’m sure she was under a lot of stress with her job and her annoying boss. Then her older brother, Seth, has a stroke and she ends up having to do everything as their absentee parents decide to throw money at the situation instead of coming back from Spain.

Jess is prickly and judgmental. Her reactions come across as immature and impulsive. The lack of communication irritates me as she always assumes the worst of Nick when if they talked, she would actually know what he wants and is thinking.

When the two finally get together in the last third of the book, how is she supposed to be a committed relationship without honesty especially when being her brother, Seth’s carer is and should be a dealbreaker if Nick isn’t interested. Just not wanting to deal with it does a disservice to Nick who is still reeling from having his heart broken by his ex-wife cheating on him and subsequent divorce.

I feel like this should have been titled a series of unfortunate decisions from hurting Alison’s feelings with her judgment leading for her to break up with Nick, to getting plastered and thinking she’d cheated on Nick who told her that his ex wife had been a serial cheater.

Then Jess dumps him and lies about the reasons. Sigh. Girl, what are you doing?

I really want to like her but it’s painful, like watching a car crash happen in slow motion that could have been prevented.

She’s too much of a people pleaser and rushes to justify her actions to her horrible boss instead of standing up for herself.

Jess does eventually end up redeeming herself at the end, but it only seems to be promoted by learning she actually didn’t cheat on Nick.

Overall, this was a miss for me.

Jess first meets Nick after a very traumatic day and a misunderstanding means they part with a very poor opinion of each other. So you can imagine her horror when it turns out he is the head-keeper at East Lothian Wildlife Park where she has been tasked with turning around the fortune of the attraction to avoid closure. It was such fun to read about how they continually clashed while, of course, secretly being so attracted to each other! And it was lovely to see how a tentative truce formed between them as they began to understand each other more. But Jess was keeping quite a major secret from Nick and I was dreading what would happen when it inevitably was revealed!

I am very familiar with the settings of this book and particularly enjoyed reading about areas of Edinburgh and East Lothian which I know so well. By the time I had finished reading about the wildlife park I was almost convinced it was real and that I could go and visit!

There’s an interesting angle in this book relating to the way people with family or caring commitments are treated at work. When Jess’s brother Seth has a stroke at a very young age, she doesn’t hesitate to take on caring responsibilities for him. Her boss is less than accommodating when she wants to work more flexibly and effectively demotes her. As a reader, we can see this is clearly a big mistake as Jess is exceptionally good at what she does. It seemed so unfair and really made me think about how difficult it must be for people who unexpectedly have to take on extra family responsibilities but who still need and want to work.

Just Like That is a lovely book which explores how things can happen which can totally change your life ‘just like that’ whether it’s for better or worse. As well as exploring themes like the importance of ecology and family loyalties and relationships, it’s a beautifully romantic read with a very satisfying ending.

Just Like That by Nina Kaye

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you to @lovebookstours for my gifted copy.

My thoughts: loved this book! The witty banter, the adorableness of Jess, the beautiful heart of this book was so refreshing! I loved every word! It’s a beautiful enemies to lovers story and I can’t wait to read more Nina Kaye books.

Can she save a failing wildlife park and her love life?

Jess is smashing her events management job right now.

She’s even less happy when she clashes with arrogant head keeper, Nick. He's frustrated with her squeamishness; she thinks he’s a lech. Nick wants a baggage-free life; Jess has so much drama going on, even the Kardashians can’t keep up.

But maybe saving the animals of East Lothian Wildlife Park will help these op-paw-sites find some common ground…

A stunning romance, filled with humour and heart, perfect for fans of Mhairi McFarlane, Miranda Dickinson and Laura Jane Williams.

This story was adorable. A big warm hug. It is a nice, easy read. Good to read when you need a break from the heavy stuff. I read it in 3 days. I was hooked.

The Wildlife Park setting was perfect! I wanted to be there exploring the animals, eating the food! The author points out the importance of climate change, nature, the problems wild animals are currently facing, such as the poachers, and also the financial struggles that has led to many wildlife parks and zoos to close.

The two main leads, Jess and Nick well lets just say they didn't start off on the best of terms. It starts with a misunderstanding between them, which causes an enemies to lovers suitation but soon turns into a slow burn romance. The couple had chemistry. The back and forth between them was amusing. I loved Nick! When you first meet him he does come across and I quote a "miserable bugger" but once you get to know him you see he has a big heart he is so caring and so loving and I love the bond he forms with Rana...that sun bear is so cute! Jess, I did like her as well. However, at times, I did want to shake her because of some of the decisions she made, but Jess is only human, and honestly, I felt so bad for her. Jess had to give up a lot to be a carer for her brother the lack of support she had, she was so alone in it all that she eventually lost her way but she does have a good character development in this story.

I did like the side characters. Seth was my favourite. I loved him. I loved that although he had a stroke, he didn't let it define him. He didn't let it hold him back. Seth was so positive, determined, and he was so funny and charming as well. I loved his relationship with Jess and their scenes together the sibling banter :)

What I loved about this book is the positive and hopeful outlook in regards to disabilities it has such a great representation. It also provides depth and insight into the struggles and transitions in terms of being a carer that some readers might feel they can relate to.

Overall, as I said, it was a cute story, had some funny moments. Romance and animals, perfect combination :)

As the title suggests, this book finished just like that.

I'll start my review from the things I liked. Using the wildlife park as the background setting, this book successfully portrays the lives of the animals in the park. What the staff do, the realities of the animals' lives, and the potential problems that arise in the daily activities there. If the book had focused on the poor animals alone, then my review might have been different. Unfortunately, the main point of the book is the romance, which brings us to my dislikes as explained below.

First, the childish characters. Jess and Nick are portrayed as both stubborn and always arguing every time they meet. They are supposed to be nemesis, who slowly fall in love (cliche thing we loved as readers), but this book doesn't provide that. This book is more likely to be instalove. Jess and Nick can fight, date, fight again in a short period of time, without any valid and realistic explanation. Hence, the romance becomes shallow.

Second, the unfocused plot. I was confused by where the book was taking me. I thought it was about how Jess improved her career and family. I was wrong. This book is about how great Jess is and how lame everyone else is. Jess is always valid, no matter what decision she makes. I'm confused about what the author wanted to convey through this book. Not enough development of plot.

Third, I'm so done with how many times Jess and Nick are called to their boss's office. There's always "Nick, Jess, I'm waiting for you in my office" almost in every chapters to the point I could tell what will happen next.

But at least, this book ends happily. That's what matters.

ARC received from @netgalley in exchange for honest thoughts.

This book has a simple plot and the writing style is also easy to read.
I really like the setting of the place in Edinburgh and also the conservation with the adorable animals. I also like the ideas the characters put into saving the conservation, I would’ve love to participate in some of them.

However, I’m having difficulties connecting with the main characters especially the FMC – Jess.
Even though I like how Jess finally redeem herself and accepting her situation, I feel frustrated with how she makes decisions for herself and other people for the most part of the story.

As for the romance, it felt forced to be honest. I don’t feel the spark connecting both main characters. They always argue after saying a few words but then in the middle of the story suddenly they decided to kiss and date.

Overall, this is a simple story. I do love the setting and the character development of Jess at the end, but other things still need development.
You can give it a try if you’re looking for a simple story with a career driven FMC and enemies to lovers trope.

I received an advanced review copy through Netgalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Huge thank you to the author and publisher!
