At eight years old, Nasya Ember was sold into a mysterious organization called The Order. She and several other girls were taken and trained by a group of women known as The Mothers. Training was extreme. The Mothers were ruthless. The girls who graduated from training were lethal. And for Nasya, training did more than prepare her to become a Hand of The Order. Each step forward in training awakened new things from inside of her, things neither she nor The Mothers can completely explain. Her search for answers runs parallel to her life within The Order. Will she choose power? Will she choose love? Or will other forces work against her?
This is a Sapphic legends and mythology Cinderella retelling style narrative. With the main character Nasya being sold by her impoverised, starving family into a life of studies, training and plenty, to become a 'Sister' of magic, an assasin, Fae and in Nasya's case a whore! Great premise, cleverly done!
Alongside this, there is love interest with fellow student Scarlet, so this is LGBT+ but with the whoring there is also some male, female sexy scenes too. About the right level of detail 👌 !
I enjoyed A Kiss Of Glass and have to say it kept my attention throughout. There was a twist towards the end and revelations within the storyline. Some of the story is narrated through the main character's prophetic dreams.
There are also infrequent dual narrative short interludes which are well written but pulled me out of the story a little, except for the epilogue.
A lovely introduction to a new author. Glad I picked this up. It was a fun read! Such a fantastic idea for a story. Imaginatively done ✔️
Give this author a try I can see she's worth it! This is book one, more to come.
This is not my usual genre. I enjoyed experiencing something different and being taken into a whole world unknown to me. I got so invested in the characters and their story. I can’t wait for the second book to come out.
I generally enjoyed the intro to this series and am excited to see where the story goes in future releases. A re-envisioning of a fairy tale is a good concept that could go horribly wrong - I think the author did a great job of mixing in the elements of the story she wanted to tell with a light backdrop of the classic tale.
There are a couple things that didn’t appeal to my reading style which mostly deals with chronology and additional text that doesn’t feel necessary. However that is a personal preference and is something everyone will have different opinions on.
A Kiss of Glass is set in a dark fantasy world where Nasaya the main character is sold off by her family so they can survive. She is brought up in the Order and trained to be a ruthless assassin. Along the way, she discovers her magical powers and love. A thoroughly enjoyable read, with great characters and storyline that keeps you entertained throughout!
