I have long been an avid fan of Ms. Kirkpatrick’s historical fiction novels. This is the first of her non-fiction books I read, and I must say it was amazing!
The author lays her heart open wide and becomes vulnerable and transparent in sharing her very private struggles in being a caregiver to her husband. I applaud her courage to do so and help thousands of other facing the same challenges.
Just one year before my husband died my mother passed away. I had cared for her in my home for 4 years. When I received the book last year I had no idea I would lose my precious husband just a few months later. While his health issues did not require me to give him the same care as my mother, there were still intense responsibilities and physical/emotional demands that brought about a exhaustion and discouragement. I never dreamed when it came in the mail what a great source of comfort it would be to me those nights I lay in bed crying.
Each short devotional started with a scripture and must say each one was just what I needed at the moment. I didn’t just read the scripture; I read the entire chapter it was contained in. Then Ms. Kirkpatrick would share a personal story of her experiences. She was completely honest about how the fatigue and stress sometimes brought about feelings of exasperation, anger, and at times even resentment. I had experienced some of those at one time or another in caring for my mother, and was struggling with guilt I could not reconcile. She helped me realize that I was not some horrible person for having them. She offered hope through God’s word and sharing her most intimate feelings and struggles.
This book is a must read for all those being a caregiver and all the struggles and confusion that go with it. This would make an excellent gift for anyone you know who is a caregiver. It is a small book but very powerful.
I would like to thank Jane Kirkpatrick for the opportunity and privilege to review this book.
I received this book free from the author. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

*I received this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

This is the first book I've read by Jane Kirkpatrick and now having finished this little treasure I'm chomping at the bit to read more!
We all go through seasons of trials and we can help to combat them by remembering the promises God has made us.
Jane draws on her own experiences to put the message across that life can indeed be different when we trust in our Father.
Packed full of encouragement and gentle reminders that we are never alone, make this a book that will fill you with peace and hope whatever the journey you're walking through.
My favourite quote is this;
"things like...reading—can take us to places where loneliness is sewn into a pocket that we may carry with us but that for the moment is contained."
It made me sit back and ponder over that statement for a long while.

This book has numerous personal stories from the life of the author Jane Kirkpatrick. She is very open about her own private struggles and difficulties and offers lessons she has learned while dealing with life. The entries are short and all have some kind of lesson you can glean from to help you throughout your day. I gave this book 5/5 stars. I liked how easy the entries where to read. I would actually call this a devotional book as each one started with a verse and they were very short and made for quick reads. I would recommend this as a gift book for anyone going through a difficult time or as a devotional book!

I would like to thank the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.

This small devotional book would be a great gift for anyone struggling with caregiving or a spouse especially. Jane Kirkpatrick has done a wonderful job with small one page personal struggles, as her husband continues to had one medical issue after another. She doesn't loose her sense of humor and her devotion to God. Each entry has a matching Bible verse which is just perfect.

There are some things that only people who have lived through them can understand. She has lived and is living through them now. The more I read of her stories, the more I appreciate how she processes and shares the challenges of life.
