Andrew Butcher writes supernatural suspense and dark fantasy tales brimming with fascinating characters, tantalizing mysteries, and jaw-dropping plot twists. After releasing his first novel, A Death Displaced, Andrew Butcher focused on continuing the Lansin Island series while helping thousands of fellow writers to realize their dreams through his online creative writing course, Write a Novel Outline from Scratch.
More interested in telling a good story than following the 'rules' of genre, Andrew takes an eclectic approach to his fiction. His paranormal suspense novels are sprinkled with elements of fantasy, mystery, and family drama. His dark fantasy tale, Fear the Wolf, is full of action, suspense, and enough mystery to keep readers guessing until the very end. Fantasy Book Critic described Fear the Wolf as "an intriguing new angle on the formula" and "a solid, well-structured book that should appeal to readers enjoying dark and intimate stories."
When Andrew isn't reading, writing, or binge-watching TV shows, he enjoys hand-feeding his pet tortoise and daydreaming about imaginary worlds filled with unforgettable characters.
I received this book from the author for an honest review. Another amazing book in the Lansin Island series. It's a wonderful paranormal thriller. I love the characters in this story. The book kept me enthralled from beginning to end. It had been a while since I read the first one in the series, 'A Death Displaced', but it didn't take me long to pick up on the characters and storyline again. Now I'm anxiously awaiting the third book! I would highly recommend this series to everyone!
A Body Displaced (Lansin Island #2) by Andrew Butcher is a great read that I just couldn't put down. It starts where book one 'A Death Displaced' left off. Although you could possibly read this book without reading book one since there are references to what happened in book one (which is great because it refreshed my memory), I still suggest you read book one first otherwise you would be missing so much.
A Body Displaced starts with Nick awaking from a bad dream. No! Not a dream, a nightmare. One that seems so real it brings back memories of when he had this type of nightmare before, only that one turned out to be a premonition. Was this a premonition? What did it mean? Nick tries to push it out of his head and is looking forward to his weekend getaway with his girlfriend, Kerra. True to the author's style that weekend getaway doesn't go as planned and once again, Nick finds himself with a mystery that needs solving. Not only does it needs solving, it is personal and needs to solve it fast since his freedom and quite possibly his life depends on it.
Juliet, who now has her grandmother living with her is busy with her own life. She still goes to sessions at the witch's house where she is being taught how to block out the ghosts. This allows her the power to control her 'gift' and try to lead a somewhat normal life. At least now she can go outdoors and not be terrified by all the ghosts that are around her. She finally has enough control that she even manages to go on a date with Austin. Not all goes as planned with her either and she finds out that even Austin is not who he seems.
The author did not take the personal lives away from the main characters in this book either. Both Nick and Juliet are also struggling with their family life. Nick now has Tom, his brother living with him. Tommy, his other brother (Tom and Tommy are twins) lives with his dad and hasn't spoken to them in months. Juliet has her mom and dad problems, still not getting over they lied to her. Juliet's mom doesn't know the grandmother is living with her and will have a fit when she finds out since they don't even speak to each other. Although this layer of family drama did slow the story down in places, I felt it really developed the characters and made them all so real.
The pace of the book was good. As I said, it did slow in parts but it was to build character or introduce/reintroduce other characters, it also contained what I consider vital information to make sense of the rest of the book. This multi-layered and multi-plot story always went forward and I didn't feel as if I was ever lost and didn't understand what was going on or what I just read. Although the switching between characters or plots may have seemed a bit choppy, I don't see any other way of smoothly doing it since for the most part because they were separate, coming together here and there until it all comes together toward the end. There was plenty of action between the murders, missing children, someone trying to kill Nick, someone almost killing Juliet, Nick being watched and followed, fights, torture, and sex, it was far from boring (and that isn't even all of it). As if that isn't enough, there was also the paranormal events of the Otherworld, magic, portals, ghosts, a dead person walking around, and trapped souls, just to name a few. And, this are all just in the main plot, the other personal layers are the soul searching, moral issues, family issues, work, lies, and grief that are going on at the same time.
Many of the questions I was left with at the end of book one were answered, such as what happened to Aldrich and Grendel Manor and if Nick and Juliet will get back together. (I have more but can't say for fear of writing a spoiler.) However, it had left me with a whole new set of questions and ended on a cliffhanger. I know the author did this on purpose since now I have to read the next book "A Spirit Displaced" to see what happens. Hats off to Andrew for another book well done!
I recommend this to adults who enjoy paranormal/mystery genre.
*I received an advance copy for the purpose of proofreading. (I hope I helped!) In no way did the author influence my review of the book.
“Mr Crystan.” He squinted, his lightly scarred skin creasing under his eyes. There was a hunger in his stare. “You might not be guilty of this. But you are guilty of something.”
A Body Displaced by Andrew Butcher. Review of the first book of the series HERE
3.0/5.0 ~Sequel Notes~ •The Story continues off 6 months after the conclusion of the first book. •Same initial issue with pace, beginning of the novel focuses on each character’s side issues with family, builds characters base but makes for terrible slow story telling. •Interactions are getting a little better, but they still seem immature and unrealistic. •Tamara is getting more time here and we are getting the paranormal world more peeled back here. It is nice to learn more about what really goes on in the background. •I figured out why I think the writing was a little shaky, the dialogue. I feel like the dialogue is written as if I were writing it…that's not really a compliment. The conversations just seem unnatural and stuttering. •More of a cliffhanger ending here, compared to the first novel at least. It isn’t bad, it just left off on a ‘dun dun duuuuuuu’ type sentence. •I love Mora.
~Final Thoughts~ While I would say this is better than the first, it isn’t so much so that necessitated a higher score. With one more in the series I will see where that story ends up and decide if the story will impress me.
Another reviewer has gone over the story, so I will keep my review a little more "generic".. A Body Displaced is another great book by Andrew Butcher. Andrew is very good at drawing you into his writing, letting you get to know the characters, and making you care about them. I was anxiously awaiting the 2nd book, as I really wanted to know what was happening with Nick and Juliet, tom and Tommy, et al. I was thrilled when Andrew asked me to read an Advanced Copy. The 1st Chapter was amazing. Perfect combination of new and old. I sometimes have trouble jumping into a new book because my head is still stuck in the "World" of the last book, but A Body Displaced's 1st chapter did a great job of refreshing my memory and getting me back into this "world". Without giving too much away, I think Urban Fantasy readers who didn't get "enough" from the 1st book, will love the 2nd. Andrew "eases" you into the "other world", rather than dropping you into a world where the paranormal already exists, and is well known. You get to discover that other world, as the characters do, which is a blast! If you read the first book and were left wanting more "paranormal" content, I urge you to check out the 2nd book when it comes out, I think you will be pleasantly surprised!
I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review...
And believe me this review is long over due... This 2nd installment of the this series was even better than the first. Nick and Juliet make a great dynamic duo. Together that is. They spent a lot of time apart in this book having lots of internal monologues and romances with OTHER PEOPLE!!! I thought for sure when I picked up this book that Nick and Juliet would be falling madly in love. That would be too easy though so I'm glad the author went the way he did...made it much more suspenseful. I got to the point where I was internally screaming "COME ON YOU TWO". I really despised Austin, but I was intrigued by him at the same time. I wanted to know how he became the way he was. Tamara was a big surprise for me when I found out her secret.. but I was glad that it was her because I trust her as a liaison for Juliet and Nick. I was very glad that they BOTH accept their gifts and have really grown into them. I'm sure by book three they will have them mastered!!! I highly recommend this book and series to all paranormal lovers!! Great Job Mr. Butcher!!!
Wow, the first book grabbed me but this second one really got me hooked, can't wait to start book three. I was totally immersed into the story, being a part of the pagan / witch community myself it was quite refreshing to read a story that resonates with my world, without either glorifying or demonising it. Well done Andrew Butcher.

My review of "A Body Displaced":
The second in the Lansin Island series, "A Body Displaced" is ever it as riveting as book one, "A Death Displaced". There is a main plot with a few subplots that are important in adding background and growth to the characters, which just continue getting better and more personable. This book can be read without any confusion or loss of continuity in the story. A novel with a little something for everyone, mystery, suspense, romance and a paranormal aspect. A series draw you in and keep you glued to the edge of your seat.
My rating for "A Body Displaced" is 4.5 out of 5 stars.
A Body Displaced is the sequel to A Death Displaced, a paranormal suspense/contemporary fantasy novel I read a little while ago featuring Nick, a man whose dreams of an accident turned out to be prophetic and Juliet, the woman he saves who as a result discovers a remarkable ability of her own. I enjoyed this debut novel, there was much to like about it with its likeable main characters and fascinating premise. I did however, feel the story took a little while to really bite and the ending felt a bit loose, I was waiting for something big to happen and it didn't. That said it was a good read and so I was keen to read this next book in the series. I was pleased to see the plot develop more quickly this time although I did feel the events of the first book were covered in more detail than I like, personally I prefer it when sequels assume the reader knows what has gone on before. However, I did enjoy this book being much darker with a deeper and more intriguing insight into the Otherworld we first learned a little of in the first book. Nick and Juliet again take centre stage although for much of the book their stories unfold separately, and we learn more about their abilities, both what they're capable of and the emotional and psychological impact on their lives. New characters who are introduced or developed further from the first book are well written and complex but I must admit I wasn't keen on the in depth physical description of almost every person in the book, particularly when it often mattered little to the plot, I'd rather use my imaginatiion. This is a fairly small gripe though and overall I was impressed with A Body Displaced, the ending too is more satisfying and did a good job of whetting my appetite for the next book in the series, A Spirit Displaced. Disclosure; I received a free copy of A Body Displaced from Netgalley in return for my honest review
I have to confess I read this book a while ago but due to having a new born baby in the house it as taken me a while to write this review so first I feel I should apologise to Andrew for the delay . I had been looking forward to reading book two in the Lansin Island series for some time and I was not disappointed. It was easy to pick the story back up from where “A Death Displaced” left off and I felt reconnected to the characters straight away. Nick and Juliet are both likeable characters, I will admit I expected that there would be romance between these two but in actual fact the story started with them apart, living different lives and having different relationships, it was refreshing to see an author not doing what we would expect and I felt this added much more to the story.
In this story Nick is again faced with solving another mystery and again it is personal and time is running out. Juliet is trying to put behind her all that happened in the previous book and trying to control her powers and block out the unwanted spirits that are invading her life, things never goes as we want them and soon she will find herself dragged back into the world she so wants to run and hide from
I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys paranormal/fantasy and mystery and I cannot wait for the next book in the series.
This second book in the series was a great addition to the first. It's always a pleasure to see characters evolve rather than remain stagnant and in this book most of the characters did just that. Granted, I was quite surprised with the way Juliet was living her life in this book considering how confident and self-assured she was in book 1 but as the book went on, she started getting her old confidence back and yet kept the lessons she learned from those around her which I liked. In this installment there was of course another antagonistic character and if anything, he was even more deplorable and wretched than Aldrich had been in the first book, A Death Displaced. I have a few suspicions about a couple of the characters that hopefully will get answered one way or the other in the next installment which I can't wait for so I won't talk about those here as it might ruin the book for some of you or lead you in the wrong direction in case I'm mistaken but just having those suspicions makes for an added bit of intrigue for the next book. And hopefully we'll also get further progression with Nick & Juliet's "relationship"; that's moving a tad too slow but considering both are extremely stubborn I guess that also makes sense.
A Body Displaced is the second full-length novel in the Lansin Island series, and I believe even better than the first. Others have gone into detail of the story, so I'll just say how much I enjoyed the new direction of the series and I enjoyed very much reading about Nick and Juliet again even if through half of the story they led separate lives. From the first page I was on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next and anxious to discover how it would be resolved. So many new fantastical twists have been introduced to this story, and it really resolved a lot of questions I had after reading the first book. Yet a lot of new problems arise in this latest addition to the series, and I loved how they were resolved. Of course the ending only leaves me yearning to find out what will happen next in both the relationship between Nick and Juliet, and the greater threat to their lives.
Thank you, Andrew for letting me read your latest book for an honest review. I can't wait to read the next one.
I received an ARC from the author for an honest review, and here it is: Nick is happy now. His life is on an upswing. He's working full time, has a full time girlfriend, and has the depression mostly under control. He is, however, occasionally having horrible, blood filled nightmares. Although his dreams have been prophetic in the past, he's trying to ignore this one and just hope it goes away instead of trying to decipher it. Taking his girlfriend away for a romantic weekend get-away seems like a perfect plan. Juliet is still soulless, but putting up a brave front of normalcy. She's learning, with Tamara's help, to control her interactions with the spirits that had overwhelmed her. Her beloved, long-lost grandmother has moved in with her. She's even starting to date. What could possibly go wrong? Everything!!! Andrew Butcher, keep writing! Please! Now that I know who (or what) wants Nick dead, I can't wait to read the next installment of the Lansin Island series.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review and here it is. I LOVED, loved, really loved this book. This is the second book in the Lansin Island series, A Death Displaced being the first, and as much as I enjoyed the first book, I got hung up on a few details. I did NOT have that problem with this book.
We rejoin our characters, Nick and Juliet, less than a year after the events from Book 1 to find that they have both been dealing with things in very different ways. Nick has moved on with life, gotten back together with an old girlfriend, and come to terms with what he can do. Juliet hasn't been as healthy, falling apart where Nick did not as she tries to come to terms with her own abilities and some shocking new discoveries.
Things quickly spiral out of control and mayhem comes knocking once again at their front doors! It seems that Nick and Juliet can't get away from each other as their lives collide for another thrill ride, taking you, the reader, with them.
I just finished A Body Displaced and am left frustrated and dissatisfied. The frustration and dissatisfaction took away from what was a really good book
Yes, I know a series of books is meant to be read one after the other but come on! Cliff hangers should be abolished! Disallowed! Banned!
Realistically I know that cliff hangers are meant to bring the reader to the next book in the series and I will definitely be reading the next book, A Soul Displaced, when it is published.
With my grumbling over, for now at any rate, I can say that I enjoyed A Body Displaced a little more than I did A Death Displaced. It could be that I’m getting used to Mr. Butcher’s writing style but it could also be that he knows how to pull us into his stories and place us with his characters in that moment.
I could feel how distraught Nick was over Kerra’s disappearance and how frustrated he was with not being able to help or how upset he was at the police’s line of questioning.
I could feel Juliet’s anger at being duped, how hurt she was by it.
This is a wonderful follow up from the first book - A Death Displaced. Both main characters Nick and Juliet had grown into their "powers" and are displaying more "mature" behaviour. They grow on you and I enjoyed reading about their growth. A vast different from other books where the mc's character are already developed.
The only complain I have is that it ended on a cliffhanger. I read this book in one sitting, thinking to read in between what free time I have but was unable to put it down.
I recommend this to anyone who like mystery with a paranormal twist. Looking forward to the third book in the series.
Its a very enjoyable second novel of the series, and is definitely worth a read. It doesn't matter if you've read the first novel, as the key points of the first novel are nicely summed within the story. It was extremely easy to immerse myself in the story, and I loved seeing the characters develop (as I really wanted to know what happened characters following on from the first novel). I would happily recommend this to readers who love mystery and/or paranormal genres.
Please note that I received a complimentary copy of the book, in exchange for an honest review.
Another great book from Andrew Butcher. Perfect for fantasy lovers and this time he brings us a few new creature. Very well written and great characters. I think one of the things I enjoyed the most is the dichotomy between the very "modern" characters and the history of the settings. The Lansin books would make great movies or TV series. Definitely an enjoyable ride for the fans of the genre.
I really liked this second instalment of the Lansin Isand series. I liked it even better than the first one: the storyline had matured, as had the characters. I found myself very invested in the story. I can hardly wait for the next one!Where is the next one? Information on here said it was expected to be out in 2014 but there's no sign of it anywhere. I hope it comes out soon, I'm very excited to read it and see the story continue...
This is a nice continuation of the story started in A Death Displaced, pacing was kept up well with some nice further twists in the story. More than just a ghost story, this ended with a cliff-hanger and is getting very interesting.
Really good read and action packed. Only aggravating factors I had were the mentality of main characters especially when facing danger. Why would you not bring weapons to do battle. It's like bringing a knife to a gun fight and hope you survive. Juliet really needed to find herself.
