Reading this book is like hanging out with a couple of incredibly sweet and awesome old hippie ladies - succinct advice on taking care of plants, with emphasis on keeping plants alive for people such as myself who tend not to. Includes line drawings of plants, adding to the 70s vibe. Short, sweet, lovely.
This fantastic little book from 1973 is an informally written guide to caring for all manner of houseplants, including all sorts of propagation methods. The voice of the two authors is consistent and enjoyable, the information still spot on and very helpful; it doesn't just include a textbook sort of information but information from the author's personal experience. Even has some worthwhile and original ideas for how to make sure your plants remain cared for while you're away for a couple of weeks. The illustrations are lovely drawings, and overall, the book is well done and delightful. My one quibble is that the authors make the common mistake of confusing Monstera Deliciosa with Philodendrum Selloum (they're both wrongly referred to everywhere as "split leaf philodendron") and even the drawings of each plant are with the wrong plant's writeup. I have a third printing, though - it's possible they fixed this in a later edition.
This book is terrific - if you love plants and find it in a used bookstore, get it!
