Shrouded in mystery, Caribbean magic has long been misunderstood―but this book helps solve that mystery. Diamantino Fernandez Trindade, one of the most renowned spiritualist authors in Brazil, and Sébastien de la Croix, an initiated Houngan (Vodou priest), reveal the truth of Haitian Vodou and North American Voodoo. Learn about these two spiritualities and how they are connected to Hoodoo, an African American tradition that incorporates Voodoo, Indigenous traditions, spiritism, and European folklore. Vodou, Voodoo, and Hoodoo provides a variety of simple spells that require no initiation and support many aspects of contemporary life. You'll also learn about the life of Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau, a famous practitioner who was ahead of her time. Featuring deities, recipes, prayers, and more, this book gives you an authentic look at Caribbean magic.
FANTASTIC intro to Vodou (Haitian), Voodoo (American) and Hoodoo (African American folk magick). Just fabulous. The authors include playlists so you can listen to a Sèvis Ginen (Vodou service), and through that playlist I was able to listen to different services or partial services “performed” by various temples which is awesome in the truest sense of the word. I also listened to Vodou and Voodoo traditional songs and drumming. There’s lots of information about the lwas and deceased people who are not quite lwas but who are close. There’s a lot about Hoodoo as well- how to make gris-gris, spell work, history, colors, Psalm correspondence, and so much more. The authors packed a ton of information into this little book. I also highly recommend watching a Ghede festival video where you can watch a practitioner being ridden by a Ghede and what the practitioner is able to withstand while being ridden. It’s so powerful.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this nook. It gives an introduction to the aspect of Vodu, Voodoo and Hoodoo. Plus it gives brief history of where it originated from. Highly recommend if you want to learn more about these traditions.
