The author is, by his own admission, NOT a Scorpio. This caused me to raise a dubious eyebrow right off and wonder, "How the eff can a non-Scorpio write a book about being a Scorpio?". It's like... If a biochemist were to try to pen a book about quantum physics. Sure, it's all still science, but yet soooo very different. Same here. It's all Astrology, and yet... Maybe it's just me, but last thing I want is a random non-Scorpio telling me how I, a double Scorpio born on Halloween, can be more authentically Scorpio. If you ain't been walking the walk... Well, you know the rest. Thankfully Mr. Dominguez recruited the help of other writers. Ones who are (please don't take this wrong) One Of Us. Which leant credibility to a book I was, otherwise, highly skeptical of.

What we have is a deep-dive into the sign of Scorpio. There are articles about what makes this sign tick, fun little sidebar correspondences (), and some spells and recipes (), and bits about Rising and Moon signs and how these impact the overall Sun sign (I'm a double with a Moon in Aquarius, so basically a mashup of the Aunts from Practical Magic, Lydia Deets, Nancy from The Craft, and Luna Lovegood. Strange and Unusual with a side of Quirky...and I shamelessly rock this, thankyouverymuch.).

Overall... The book didn't tell me anything new. But it was a fun read that triggered the Nostalgia Center in my brain, the one where I'm 13 again and me and (then) BFF have procured the latest "All Quizzes Edition" of YM Magazine and are happily pouring over its contents in order to glean a better look at ourselves. It's a fun addition to my Witchy collection.

p.s. Being that I DO love me a good Deep Dive, I'll likely be reading the Aquarius one too (when it's out) simply to get more insight into my Moon Sign. Because the Moon is, after all, the deepest and most authentic self (or so sources say).

As with every book in the Witch’s Sun Sign series so far, this was a five star read. I really enjoyed Zoë Howe’s voice — she is a kick a$$ writer. I also have to say that maybe it is my Taurus nature (as Taurus is the sign exactly opposite Scorpio in the Wheel of the Zodiac) but these were the most applicable exercises for any path that I’ve seen in any of these books so far.

Rhonda Alin’s Spell for Release is absolutely genius and a mic drop of an ending for this book.

I also thoroughly enjoyed Wendy Rule’s Underworld ritual. It was a mind opening way of scrying for me.

I really appreciated that many of these rituals — as with every ritual in the Witch’s Sun Sign series — are applicable for everyone, regardless of their sign, even if they might be extra fun for someone with that particular sign. Oh yeah: and Dawn Hunt’s recipe for this one was delicious!

Now let’s talk about Scorpio as a sign and how it comes across in this book. In a word: empowering. If you are a Scorpio, I think they did you justice in this lovely compendium of Scorpio perspectives. You will certainly find new ways to understand how you approach magic and engage with the tools of the trade.

On a personal note… like I said I’m a Taurus, an opposing sign of Scorpio, so maybe that is why. But I have never felt at ease around Scorpios, due to some past traumas with folks who happened to be Scorpio. Reading this book really healed a lot of those traumas. It helped me understand and reframe why what happened wasn’t about me, and it also helped me see where I played part in negative experiences I have had with Scorpios.

I look forward to using this book as a reference for myself and for others as a teacher in the Craft.
