Seth Roberts is a typical teenager, that is, until his mother sends him to St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada, to visit his Great Uncle Herman. In St. John’s, Seth discovers that Herman is a wizard, in fact, the son of Merlin himself. Shortly, Herman asks Seth if he would like to go on an adventure and he quickly agrees. With the help of a strange medallion, Herman sends Seth back in time to the year 1128 A.D. to Cambria, a village founded by Tristan, one of the Knights of Author’s Round Table. In Cambria, Seth meets his father and discovers his true potential, family secrets, and love. Soon, Seth finds himself on the adventure of a lifetime as he races to save Briana, the queen of Cambia, and Cambria itself.
I had no trouble getting into the story of this book. It's a great book that takes you on a breathtaking journey, with fantastic range of characters too. The relationships between some of the characters were intense at many touching moments. The author is very talented with the way she describes what is happening. The book feeds your imagination and makes it so easy to picture in your mind what is happening. Especially the action scenes. I found myself reading even faster just so I could get to the next part. A thoroughly enjoyable read that will keep you reading until the end! Can't wait for book 2!!
Fantasy is my go-to genre when I want to get lost in another world. Cambria is a beautiful story that weaves so many of the fantastic fantasy themes together and produces a page-turning book I didn't want to put down!
Seth is a young man going to visit his Uncle Herman one summer and discovers he and his family are much more than he ever dreamed. He finds himself in the world Cambria, a mystical place where honor and loyalty are more than just words, where knights, Kings, dragons and magic are more than just legends lost to history. Seth embarks on a true Hero's Journey. struggling to find his identity and purpose, battling darkness and evil, and finding romance in the arms of the lovely Brianna. But don't be misled into thinking this is a story that has been told countless times, because it's not! It has wonderful classic elements, but it's wholly unique with unexpected twists and suprises.
The characters were easy to connect with, and I found myself invested in them very early on. Seth, coming from a modern day realm, and Brianna and her friends existing in Cambria, creates a lovely blend; a fairy-tale world that keeps a grip on the present. The dialogue and descriptions are stirring and the author has an excellent grasp on language. Several times I was shaking my head in awe because I could so easily visualize what was being described, and I was able to do so not because of lengthy, tedious, paragraphs but rather through eloquent, well-chosen word combinations. The world building was very good and when I cicked the last page, I found myself saddened that I was going to have to leave this world behind. I hope there will be another book, and if so I will snatch it up immediately!
"Cambria" by Theresa Oliver brought me to a different world! I could really get into this book, and all the details made it feel very real. I was hooked from the beginning! I especially enjoyed how Theresa Oliver mixed modern society and the old world together. She also shows how some legends could be true without us knowing, such as dragons. Plus, there's a unicorn. Unicorns make everything better. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it for everyone. I can't wait for the next book!!!
An enjoyable adventure that transcends time. The plot was good and the characters were interesting. At first the story was hard to get into but once I did it flowed nicely. I'm not a fan of instant love and would have liked to see a more believable romance play out between the characters. Another thing that is worth mentioning is there are some editing issues. Overall, I enjoyed the original concept and spin on the King Arthur legend to come up with this Chronicles of Nardia-like story.
Cambria was a smart, sweet, and adventurous read all in one. I enjoyed the story, and was brought back to the days of when my dad would tell us stories of princesses, knights, and castles when we were growing up. It was easy to read and left you with a warm feeling at the end.
Wow! I was barely able to put this book down for a second after the first few pages got me completely hooked. Theresa Oliver’s description to detail is incredibly compelling. It's entertaining and lures you in to the past along with the characters.
If you like stories about Dragons, Castles, knights, Princesses, friends or even True love stories that span time then this is the perfect book for you.
Seth is sent to his Great Uncle Hermans for the summer only to find that he has to help on the farm. During his time there Seth finds out that his uncle is a Sorcerer
Seth and Briana are from different Eras but end up falling in Love due to Seths being sent back in time to a place called Cambria in 1128. Ends up meeting the father he thought was a Bum and his True Love Briana. With the help of a Magical Medallion that can sent someone through time to another place and back.
In Cambria Seth again works on the farm with Colin (his father), Briana, Bryce and Reese (both become like brothers) Draco killed Briana's family when Briana was just a baby. She was saved by Colin and is the only father figure she has ever known. They must all fight to save Cambria and Briana after she is kidnapped by Draco to become his queen (they must save her as she is the rightful Heir).
OMG I could go on and on about this wonderful book. Please please read it. I have to say towards the end i felt a lump in my throat.
I'm not going to Spoil things for you but this book is a MUST read. When I finished it today I was down because I wanted to know more. So guess what i'll be doing I'm going to purchase the next book.
Read this book! As a writer of fantasy, I like reading other fantasy stories. This one blew me away. From the prologue on the very first page, this story of Seth, Briana, his uncle, and parents and the amazing place called Cambria wrapped itself around me and never let go. I would find myself wondering how my characters would deal with Dracon, the villain. In the end, Seth did what Connor Clark would have done in those circumstances. Maybe that's part of why I liked the story so much; family, faith, and honor drive Theresa's story, as they do my own.
