Both developers and system administrators will find value in this platform-neutral guide. Professional Website Performance: Optimizing the Front End and Back End offers essential information to help both front-end and back-end technicians ensure better website performance.
Insights into performance techniques at various levels of a website, an interesting read, though things are discussed from perspective of PHP, Apache and MySQL but I am thrilled to explore other avenues.
I got the most out of the first 6 chapters as these focused on front end. However, even skimming over some of the back end chapters provided a lot of insight. This is a book I hope to reread in a year or so and have a much better handle on the back end chapters.
A good overview of real world application performance. The clear treatment of Waterfall diagram, caching and front-end performance deserves special mention. The language of choice for mid-tier is PHP - so JVM folks may look to supplement this with another book.
