Has it ever happened that an umbrella did not open on time? It can cause a lot of inconvenience in case of bad weather. But for the mother of Arjun and Divya, a film director, it meant tremendous money loss. A significant portion of her movie had been shot using an umbrella rented from a costume shop. And a sudden dysfunctioning of the umbrella meant costly reshoots. But what none of them knew is that an umbrella has a history of sorts, with a mysterious businessman having his eyes set on it. What does he want with it? Add a parallel track featuring a genetically modified tree and eco-terrorists, and soon everyone is in peril- the children, their mother, their scientist aunt, the film’s cast and crew, and the proprietors of the costume shop.

Is this book a mystery of the Enid Blyton variety? Not really. But one can draw comparisons with films made by the CFSI (Children’s Film Society of India). Not everything adds up, especially the science in the sci-fi parts, and there are certain fallacies and plot holes. And one should not expect Grade A thrills either. But one should not go too deep into it and instead read it for the feel-good factor. As expected, all ends well with the good people happy and contended. And like many children’s books, it has a message. In this case, it is about the nobility of sacrifice.

This is a nice book. On this book 4 children in the groups of 2 get to know about mysteries and when the are finding out, they meet each other and get to know that the mysteries are interconnected and thus team up to solve the mystery of the silk umbrella(which is all the problem!).

10 year old read it in 3 hours, her rating is "mast", meaning very cool & fun, or very entertaining.
Book is quite a nice light read for adults too, but definitely a middle-grade book.
Lifestyle disparities, Moral dilemmas of science are lightly touched upon.
Not a mystery, more a slice-of-life adventure.
Tight, but not edge-of-the-seat writing, good editing, easy & fast read.
