I'll Put 3 Chips on God, Just in Case There is One

Rate this book
Agnosticism + Logic + Faith = My Spirituality

These are the ingredients in my ice-cream cone, along with Soul Energy, Reincarnation, Karma, Detachment, Vegetarianism, Astrology, Meditation, and the Ego. I believe these concepts make some sense based on the tenets of logic and science. Even to a skeptic like me.

But I am entitled to change my mind at any time. If tomorrow someone were to show me some indisputable, miracle-backed proof that their way is the correct way and I will go to Hell if I don't squat on one foot chanting 3.5 times a week, I will happily throw away my chocolate cone and switch to strawberry.

For now, here is what I believe, and why . . . .

I'll Put 3 Chips on God, Just in Case There is One reads like what you would get if you crossed Bridget Jones' Diary with an episode of Seinfeld and added a dash of New Age spiritual musings.

Preeti, in a conversational way, discusses everything from karma to palm reading.

I liked that she didn't talk down to the reader or apologize for her thoughts. She just puts it out there and lets everybody come to their own conclusions.

My favorite part of this book was when Preeti goes to the astrologist twice to see if he would give her the same natal chart on both visits. She lets some years pass so that she won't be recognized by her face and compares the results. They don't match.

Preeti celebrates the fact that the charts were completely different because it backs up her theory that folks who are in the spiritual business only for money are hucksters.

But, at the same time, she doesn't dismiss astrology as utter nonsense and leaves the door open for more learning on the subject.

It's refreshing to find an author who is that willing to entertain different traditions even in the face of a fraudulent experience. She freely admits that she doesn't know the ultimate truth and I think everyone can resonate with that idea... because, who does, really? Not me.

If you enjoyed I'll Put 3 Chips on God, I'd recommend reading Life's Operating Manual: With the Fear and Truth Dialogues (Tom Shadyac's thoughts on life and spirituality) or Tipping Sacred Cows: The Uplifting Story of Spilt Milk and Finding Your Own Spiritual Path in a Hectic World (in the same conversational type of style as this book and with irreverent humor, Betsy Chasse talks about her journey through the New Age Movement).

I received a free digital copy of this book from the author.

I apologize that I took so long to review it. I sometimes get lost in my own to-read pile. Thank you, Preeti, for sending it to me.

There aren't many books I give 5 stars to. Most fall into the 3-4 star range because I really don't think that a Paranormal Romance/Sci-Fi/Fantasy/whatever other genre I may read at any given time could be life-changing, or I can't see the book becoming a classic. This book though is one of a kind. Its the no-crap, logical look at why the author believes there probably is a Supreme Being and why. She uses modern day language and ideas to introduce her thought processes, and explains subjects in a clear-cut manner, ranging from Karma to Reincarnation to the idea of a Soul and Meditation . Later on, she goes on to introduce daily ways that the reader can introduce a more spiritual life into their already hectic daily life.

Perhaps if people would read this book and take it to heart, then we'd all be nicer to one another and the world would slowly evolve into a better place, the place we all hope for when we think about world peace and ending hunger and poverty.

I've got to say, I absolutely enjoyed this book! I don't typically talk to others about my beliefs or read religious or spiritual books. It seems to be a very touchy subject and I've learned in my 22 (almost 23) years of life that a lot of times people will talk down to you about what you believe in. They may tell you that your way is the wrong way and that their way is the right way, the only right way. I don't like people preaching to me telling me I am damned if I don't do things a certain way. So I tend to keep my beliefs to myself and I respect any one's beliefs, whether I agree or not. I feel that everyone is entitled to their own opinions and beliefs and who am I to judge anyway?

Now, I did not feel that way at all while I read this book. I felt like I was simply chatting with a friend (a quite humorous friend) about her beliefs. I did not feel that she was preaching to me at all or that she was absolutely perfect, a saint. I was not bored out of my mind like I have been reading other "spiritual" books. What I really loved about this book was that the author did not make you feel like her way was the one and only correct way. I felt like I can take what I want from the book and leave the rest. I also loved how she touched on both sides of every subject not just HER side. If you are like me and you are open to hearing what someone else believes and why, whether you are set in your beliefs or not, I really think that you will enjoy this book.

I received a free copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This is a good book if you want to expand your horizons about spirituality and religion ; the author writes some pretty intresting ideas ,I like that she did a lot of research and she brings up plenty of (more or less) logic arguments. You can find plenty of interesting subjects such as : Soul energy, chemical energy,Karma , reincarnation.I didn't agree with all of her opinions but it was nice to find out new/different opinions and way of thinking.I really liked the meditative tone of the narration.
Final rating : 3.5 stars out of 5

*I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.*

Whilst I’ll Put 3 Chips on God – just in case there is one addresses the theme of spirituality, it does quite often discuss religion and science. Typically, I expect books dealing with such themes to be full of preaching and a load of language I just can’t understand, or want to.

On reading simply the first page, I realised that this wasn’t going to be that type of book.

Personally, I don’t need something grand. If I were able to choose a miracle to witness, it would involve me being able to eat tubloads of chocolate and getting thinner the more I eat it. But I suppose any old miracle would do, just something to show me – us – that God or Heaven really exists.

I loved how Preeti Gupta, whilst drawing on her own experiences, made the theme of the book less gruelling, and more humorous. It was much easier for me to get into a book written in this style than it would have been had I’ll Put 3 Chips on God… been a book written to force the readers into spirituality with strict rules and no respect for other people’s life choices and beliefs.

It allowed me to laugh and be inspired all at the same time, which was exactly what I was hoping to read.

I can understand the argument on both sides. A part of me – the skeptic side of me – could toss the frilly parasol, tack on a mustache, and agree with The People Who Do Not Agree. I think they have valid counterpoints, and I don’t discount them completely.

I found the book really well written. Preeti Gupta did share her own thoughts and opinions, but they were backed up by research and experiences. It was balanced too – the suggested opinions of The People Who Do Not Agree (as Preeti eloquently put it!) were addressed as well.

Although I did enjoy I’ll Put 3 Chips on God – just in case there is one, I did get lost in a couple of the chapters. Generally though, that was down to what I like to read and not necessarily the book itself. Seeing atoms and orbits referred to more than once or twice did make me switch off, but my attention was soon regained.

I guess what I found so refreshing about this book was that Preeti Gupta wasn’t just preaching or rambling about something she didn’t actually have a clue about. I’ll Put 3 Chips on God – just in case there is one was kind of on a middle ground; not too forceful but also not showing a lack of knowledge or experience.

On finishing this book, I now see that I’d already been delving into spirituality subconsciously, yet I now feel inspired to explore this further.

4/5.

I recently read this book and really appreciated the light and engaging tone with which the author approached this often drowsy subject. I also liked that she drew from her own experiences and feelings, instead of keeping it all impersonal and cold. The reading is definitely much easier and more enjoyable under those conditions. Her humor also complemented the book well, even if I personally think it could be toned down a bit.

Preeti doesn't force anyone to agree with or to follow a certain path. Readers are only expected to take a deeper look at several spiritual concepts (presented in a logical, easy-flowing sequence), with evidence both for and against them, and eventually get to their own conclusions. The author does say frequently to which side she leans on and may show some partiality to it, with slight signs of condescension (probably accidental) towards the other side.

Each concept is explained in an easily understandable manner, very helpful for those who don't want to feel overwhelmed. However, even though she warns to this right in the beginning, I found some analogies to be quite far-fetched and with a strained connection between them and the points she wanted to make. Her views on what could constitute circumstantial evidence for something also seemed to be mostly subjective and not every argument had actual logical relevance, in my opinion. She could have also talked more about her personal definition of God, since it may be the basis of all things spiritual.

Anyway, I liked the book and I think it is perfectly suitable to those who want to dig deeper into spirituality, but are still taking their first steps towards that goal. The book constitutes a great start - but not a great end - to that journey, so I recommend it for that. Readers who eventually want to get more seriously (and "boringly", hah) into it may want to add other books to their reading list after finishing '3 Chips on God', as a complement.

“I find it very possible that the bugs I crush might have the Soul Energy of someone I loved in a previous life.”

OK, that wasn’t fair. I can’t just take one line out of context to describe the tone of a book, even if it is a doozy. This really is a cute book about Spirituality, flavored with a self-centeredness that actually works, because of “luminous and bedazzling” Preeti’s self-depreciating humor. Spirituality is tough for a material girl; she longs for a spiritual advisor who is a “cross between Deepak Chopra and Britney Spears.”

So off we go on a theme park tour through Karma, vegetarianism, reincarnation, heaven, and more. In a chapter on astrology, I learned I share the same birthday with Preeti. Uh-oh, Preeti, I hope that doesn’t mean you’ll be following in the shadow of my life story. Ugh!

Atheists, agnostics, evolutionists, scientists, and other People Who Do Not Agree often raise their boring heads in the matter, but we shall temporarily silence them. Preeti’s mantra of “how do we know it isn’t true” saves the day. And the book is strongly endorsed by Preeti’s mom. So listen up, because Preeti is a little more serious than she pretends to be, even as she admits her amateur status on the matter.

This is an everyday woman’s musings, aiming at nothing less than the Ultimate Truth. The conclusion she reaches is shared by many religions and philosophies … beneath it all, the “truth” turns out to be the absence of I. The absence of the ego. Maybe all paths do lead to God.

So this turned out to be very different from the usual Dubious Disciple book. Not a good mix for me living in my boring, “People Who Do Not Agree” rut, and I don’t know how to rate it. I’ll settle for a sort of non-rating. But thanks, Preeti, for sharing your journey in an entertaining manner!

I received the e-book version of this book for free from the author.

This book blew me away right by the start! As spiritual myself (in the Wiccan / ancient treehugging kind of way), lots of the things in the book interested me. Since I'm interested in an ancient religion and live in the modern world, I have both experienced and researched other religions all over the world myself. Some things making sense, and some things not.

Preeti Gupta has written this wonderful book, which is intelligent, but in a slight humorous, modern way so that we all can relate to it. We are all humans living in the same world, but with different believes.
She talks about soul energy, creationists vs evolutionists (arguments both for and against each), happiness, heaven and hell (and other aspects of it), karma and rebirth. She also dips into the spiritual more alternative things such as astrology, palm reading, lucky numbers and colors, meditation and ESP.
Everything is built up in similar ways, only in bigger levels. Everything consists of energy, and she explains it all in the middle part of the book, so we can consider everything.
In the last part, she puts it all together, how to choose the right path for you, incorporating detachment and karma, and researching happiness and enlightenment.

Read in less than a day, I found it all really refreshing, and not too heavy to read. I believe in karma myself, and I believe in achieving happiness (she talks about the different levels of happiness in the book).

If you're looking for a lighter book on spirituality and believing in a higher power and comparing it to creationism and don't mind the ramblings and getting to know the author (I've come to love this style of writing and giving information lately), this is a definite read!
I sure loved it.

Some people seem most content with:

“Say three prayers. Very good! Put your coins over the plate there. Thank you; on behalf of all parishioners we are grateful. That’s it. Your sins are forgiven. You are blessed. Next please!”

But if you think our quest into realms of our souls, the spiritual and God ought to be something more meaningful and fulfilling than just ritual, something deeper than dogma founded on reason and not mere conviction or accepting things without inspection, then, Preeti Gupta’s I’ll Put 3 Chips On God, is a book that I think that you will most certainly cherish.

One of the things I enjoyed most in writing was her magic talent for taking invisible things from out there from the world of spirits and putting them into your hands with a kind and gentle smile for you to touch, fumble with, feel them, weigh them, as much as a scientist would with his laboratory gear experiment in front of students, or an affectionate mother would familiarize her young with the facts of life through amusing and entertaining play.

I didn’t matter for me whether I agreed or disagreed with things and ideas presented in the book, but the intention of the writer, who’s kindness and love for her fellow man moved me as deeply, as it made me smile and even often laugh my brains out while reading her witty devises in shedding a ray of light over things often covered with mystery, superstition and prejudice.

I rarely read spiritual books or books on beliefs, and it's not because I'm not interested in it, but the ones I've met I hated: they were either too abstract for a common "dimwit" like me :) or tried to force their beliefs down my throat and convert me in a violent way, which I do not condone.

However, this book I loved. I loved how it wasn't too teachy-preachy, but more of a pondering and meditating of a person like me on the issues of spirituality. Preetu Gupta writes about her own experiences and thoughts with such an easily understandable and relatable manner that made the whole reading and inner thinking experience so much closer to me. It's good to read these kinds of thoughts from a person who's just like us, who does this kind of meditating in her free time, who has a job, who has other, earthly things to care about and who won't give up her possessions and life to research theoretics... which makes it so much more relatable. I don't mean I agree with all of her notions (but if I wanna be honest, I do feel the same about loads of things, just I couldn't have told them as capturingly as she did), but books like this shouldn't state truths, in my opinion, but rather raise statements and show ways to think - and then the audience can decide whether to accept them or not. I liked how she mentioned it in the book several times.

Also, her sense of humour is just awesome!

Most humans have asked themselves the question 'Why are we here' at one time or another. Ms Gupta not only asked the question, but tries to answer it as well, in her exquisite little book 3 Chips on God.
if you are like the many who have difficulty with the trappings of organized religions, this is an intelligent, reasoned look at a concept of spirituality which makes a great deal of sense, a quality
seldom encountered in discussions of faith.

The friendly conversational style and her sense of humor about the topic make what might be considered a chore to read into something delightful. Gentle, humility-based instruction-by-example imparts practical
techniques allowing the reader to incorporate satisfying, beneficial spirituality into their everyday life.

The very lucid organization of many disparate thoughts, excellent imaginative illustrations, and the very warm humanistic point of view are enhanced perfectly with a delicious sense of humor!

Her very cogent analysis of a difficult topic is not only a great (and informative!)read, it is entertaining as well.

A great read!

I was fortunate enough to receive a free ebook copy of this book from the author herself. Preeti, many thanks for your generosity.

Reading this book was like having a freaky, surreal, Being John Malkovich type of experience. It was as if the author had reached into my mind and shaken all my thoughts out one by one. It reflects exactly where I am in life vis a vis religion and spirituality and certainly woke me from my slumber. My one gripe would it be that on and off the tone became very obviously and consciously PC.
Her musings and philosophy have reminded me that I need to reach a little deeper inside once again and pick up where I left off.
After having gone through the motions (rituals, prayers, fasting) in order to please my mother in law I decided some years back to drop the hypocrisy and discover my own truth. Thank you Preeti for baring so much of yourself, it couldn't have been easy.

I loved this book, understood and actually felt connected to the ideas presented so well by the author. If you aren't a religious person but feel connected to something you can't quite understand or define...read this book...it may not be your answer but it certainly is compelling...I respect the authors honesty, and find it brave of her to put her beliefs out there for scrutiny that is bound to come from those who have that blind faith in their specific religions (which i also respect, just don't understand), if you have felt lost and that you just don't fit into the ideas of spirituality that are out there give this book a try...if you are openminded and like a good debate splashed with a bit of humor...read this book! I would rate this book 5 stars, but feel just like our individual paths to enlightenment there is always room to improve!

- The book does not seem to be researched at all. Instead, it reads like a diary entry based solely on the author's personal experience.
- The author frequently makes sweeping generalizations about humanity, again based on her own opinions.
- The author frequently makes excuses for why she sometimes steps outside of what she considers spiritual morality. In my opinion and experience, spirituality and being a decent human being can be and often are mutually exclusive.
- Overall, it wasn't a horrible book, but I would not read it again nor would I recommend it to anyone else.

We all hold personal opinions about the "philosophy of life and our spiritual existence", in one way or the other, sometimes consciously and sometimes in our sub-concious mind. I'll put 3 Chips on god just in case there is one is entirely based on what the author thinks about the philosophy of life and the spiritual existence of living beings.

Agnosticism + Logic + Faith = My Spirituality, as the book described is an exact definition in 3 words or 3 Chips as the author mentions (3 Chips on God).

Before beginning with what I felt about the book, I feel the author deserves an applause on her writing style. *APPLAUSE*
One needs guts to pen-down the perspectives and thoughts about life exactly how it pops in your head.

Firstly, this is not one of those philosophical reads which you can just keep reading and finish in a day-or-two. Each chapter of this book is a complete cycle of thoughts and needs to be thought upon; "what do I feel about spirituality? Would I prefer to become a vegetarian? Do I believe in Karma? Would I sacrifice my desires for others? Sit back and think." I made sure I had my cup of coffee and cookies with me while going through each chapter and ponder upon them while being lost into open space.

Preeti Gupta talks about a lot of aspects of our lives in this book and shares her opinion. She does not impose her thoughts yet makes one think and create their own opinion by showing both the sides of a coin. Sometimes, I myself felt a little confused that which side am I on? Heads or tails? Maybe both. And that's the beauty of this book. I could stick to my beliefs yet give some space to the other side as well. Hip-Hip Hurray!!

I enjoyed reading this book and felt it was similar to my beliefs. I am an agnostic myself and it was good to know that I am not the only one walking this path.

One drawback I felt was that at certain instances the author was a bit self-defensive in sharing what she felt. I wonder why?...

About the Book Cover:
This book has a very interesting title '3 Chips on God' and deserves a better book cover. I am not ashamed to say, I am one of those people who judge a book first by its Book Cover, then the Title and finally the Content. And the book cover didn't really appeal to me. It was the content mostly that I was looking forward to read and it did justify my curiosity! Thankyou Ms. Preeti Gupta :)
What I feel is that the book cover right now, does justify the content to a certain extent but its worth a lot more as this book is not only about gods and angels.

Introduction
First of all, I loved the book! ;) Now, let’s get into details)
Two days ago I finished reading a book by Preti Gupta “I’ll Put 3 Chips on God (just in case there is one)”. Usually I don’t read all those ‘spiritual’ books, preferring to go on my own, but this one caught my attention.
So. Let’s start from the very beginning – from the cover. I didn’t particularly like it: I believe this book deserves something better than those cheap Photoshop pics (Who is Yury Rumyantsev? Is he my compatriot?). Nevertheless, I’m sure that’s no fault of Preti, so it didn’t really affect my opinion.
The dedication is very touching. I also think that dedication and acknowledgements (a special feature of Western authors – Russian writers very rarely do so today) demonstrate how… well, maybe, good-mannered and grateful the author is?
Style
The first thing that catches your attention is the voice of the author. It’s very respectful and easy. You don’t have to struggle to read – I was able to understand everything and remain interested even sitting on train, after a long, long day. Besides, there is nothing guru-like about it: She doesn’t teach you and read lectures; she just states her views, almost discussing them with you. You believe her.
Moreover, Preti’s style is mildly humorous which is, in my opinion, very good for non-fiction.
The metaphors which Preti calls humbly strange, and weird, and ‘cheesy’ are, in fact, essential for this type of book. There aren’t too many of them, first, and, second, they definitely make it easy to understand and imagine the abstract, intangible things Preti is talking about. I especially liked the gambling analogy.
Content
The problems Preti writes about are those many of us, thinking people (yeah, I’m far less shy than Preti!) have to face. It’s the choice between enjoyment and real world matters, gnawing thoughts about life purpose, life after death (just in case there is one!) and so on. I won’t tell you too much in order not to spoil the pleasure of reading and… finding your own way ;) What I will say is that I agree with Preti on many points and “3 Chips on God” really gave me some food for thought.
Also, “3 Chips On God” might serve a good guide for spiritual novices. It helps to structure all you already know about this area and, possibly, learn something new! It helped me, anyway.
Conclusion
All in all, “I’ll Put 3 Chips On God (just in case there is one)” is a well-written, logical, rather fascinating book about spiritual search and questions everyone will have to answer one day. At the same time, it’s easy to read and sometimes rather entertaining.

I enjoyed, Preeti Gupta’s “I'll Put 3 Chips on God- just in case there is one”. It is a wonderful book. I enjoyed reading it and went along with Preeti’s point of view as long as I was reading the book.

However, I do not agree to her point of view/ logic.

World around us very complex and beyond the understanding of present day science and logic, which had necessitated the presence of “God” in all unexplained situation.

There is no absolute truth in Science – something which is known to us today as truth, could be proven wrong with a new discovery tomorrow. And not everything can be proven correct logically.

We, the humans, are very funny creatures. Whenever we are in trouble, we run and seek help from “God” and/or blame “Him” for all our problems and trouble and pray to “Him” to bail us out. But, when we are comfortable we start questing the very existence of “God”.

Problem is nobody knows who or what is “God”.

It made me think about Preeti’s analogy logically.

Here is Preeti’s analogy - Agnosticism + Logic + Faith = My Spirituality

I believe that when one is “Spiritual” then he/she believes in “Super Power/ Supreme Being” and put all his/her has faith in that “Super Power/ Supreme Being”. And the name of that super power/ Supreme Being is “God”.

Faith and Logic are oxymoron.

Agnosticism and Faith are also oxymoron.

When someone is Spiritual, he/she has faith and had strong belief in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual conviction rather than proof.

Humans search for “God” everywhere but forget to use one powerful tool which that all humans have and which can lead them to “God” – their Mind.

Few great Humans have ventured and used this tool long long ago.

Problem is all those great thinkers, who used their Mind as a tool to find “God” and achieved “Enlightenment” or “realized God” either proclaimed themselves as “God” or proclaimed themselves as representatives of “God” and started their own religions.

Idea of all those religions was to guide people to right path to realize “God”. But in due course people forgot the basic principles and purpose of their religion. With so many “Religions” people got confused and started fighting each other to prove the supremacy of their “Religion” and their “God” and in the process people forgot about realizing “God”.

I believe, if someone really wants to find whether “God” exists or not, all he/she has to do is what all those great thinkers have done – use their mind.

All said and done, I loved Preeti’s style of writing, logic and the way she puts her points. I would recommend everyone to read this book, whether you are an Agnostic, a theist or an atheist.

I'll Put 3 Chips on God by Preeti Gupta is not just a book about religion. It is a book where the author tries to explain things about the world, based on their understanding of events and scenarios. Gupta puts forth some interesting ideas and examples to explain things, including some humour and personal stories of her own life.

Right from the beginning of this book, I like it. The author, Preeti Gupta, has captured me. This isn't some sort of really dull non-fiction / self help book; this is a book with a spirit, one that I can relate to. The author begins explaining her life simply and her relation to religion, being that she doesn't really have one to begin with. I certainly feel the same. Agnostic is the official term, I believe, which is how I feel I am. I don't have a definite religion. I believe in something, but I just don't know what. Unicorns, that's what I believe in, but that's just me. The author then goes to explain all sorts of things about the universe and belief systems as she sees it. I think it's a pretty interesting view on life. The author presents some interesting theories and arguments to do with each type of belief, based on what they know about the subject or their understanding. They also use science to explain religions, spirituality and things like karma.

Overall, I found it quite relateable. Gupta has added some very personal touches to the book such as humour, some which is easily missed if you aren't paying attention. Speaking of not paying attention, she's also added summaries to many points so you can catch up if you were a bit distracted, but too lazy to go back. It has minimal bad language, though I would like to warn you about plant and bug death within the book, if that's the type of thing you find upsetting. I think it's a book that might appeal to all sorts of audiences. I would personally recommend it to people who are looking for a light hearted (and not too serious) religious or spiritual debate.

I received a copy of this in return for an honest review. I'm quite happy rating it five stars as I feel it's well deserving of such a rating; I could easily relate to many instances within the novel and could see a lot of my own life in the book.

Some science types criticize the religious fundamentals for taking things on faith ... if you can't PROVE it, it doesn't exist. All scientific fact is either proven fact, or logical deductions based on a series of proven facts. EXCEPT ... not all "facts" are yet known, and when a new discovery casts doubt on a proven "fact", then everyone has to scramble to RE-PROVE their "facts".

Preeti Gupta recognizes all aspects of this dichotomy. Her first book, "I'll Put 3 Chips on G-d, just in case there is one" attempts to look at spirituality in a scientific way. BUT ... she also takes some liberties, making some logical assumptions and leaps of faith (if you will) to make her presentation. Accurate? Perhaps. Good luck proving it or disproving it. Of course, the same is true for any of the traditional organized religions.

Of course, it doesn't matter ... Ms. Gupta is not trying to convert you to either an established religion nor starting one for you to join. Rather, she is attempting to clearly lay out HER concepts of spirituality and morality in a clear & concise (assuming 300 pages qualifies as "concise").

Further, the author cites real-life examples drawn from her own experiences. While I've never met Ms. Gupta, and only shared a couple of emails with her, I really feel like I know something about her after reading this book based on her openness and (I hope) honesty. FURTHER, her sense of humor appeals to me, so that a topic that would be incredibly dry in the wrong hands comes off as a page-turner in her gifted hands.

I'd like to rank this at 4 1/2 stars, but since I don't have the option of 1/2 stars, I've decided to elevate it to my 5-star status, 'cause the book earned it.

DISCLOSURE: I received an electronic version of this book free of charge from the author in return for my writing an honest review and being willing to discuss it with her afterwards. While I'm sure she would have liked a favorable review, no attempts were made to influence that opinion other than writing a decent book!

Like-minded person probably attract another like-minded person. But in my defense, I would say, I am different from you. ;-)

When I saw your book on giveaway, I was too curious to know what it is like. Thanks for a free copy.
Your style of writing is nice. It would be almost similar to mine if I were to write a book which I am planning to do since long.
Not too serious and not too funny. It is nice that way. :)

The theory on Soul energy is interesting. It is something new for me to learn.

I found some points in your book too familiar as if you have taken or implement some of my ideas from my mind that I feel weird.
Only that you beat to it. But it is good to see it out there and that I have some similar taste that you have.
I have only thought of putting those on my blog which I haven’t started.
Your book is an addition to my list of books for laws of attraction. Probably I would use Attachment and detachment bucket.
In fact I already have my attachment bucket but I desire much more than the basic needs, like fame, name, wealth and success.
You seems to have cover it all by yourself. I am impressed. I have yet to start and I am 36 already.
Still I haven’t found my life partner (I preferred normal life partner who has an open heart to accept me with my intelligence and hearing loss). I would preferred to have love (love marriage) but I don’t know at this age.

Overall I found it a delightful book to read. It is good. The title and cover is very eye-catching too.
I am sure your book will be appreciated. All the best for your first book.
pardon my long due in posting the review on your book.

I won this book through the Goodreads first-reads program. :)

This book was utterly delightful. Preeti Gupta takes a casual look at the different philosophies of various religions in order to convey her own views of what spirituality entails. While a heady topic, Preeti Gupta writes with all the humor of a book such as He's Just Not Into You and it comes off as more a casual conversation than a book. The asides are hilarious, the perspective no-nonsense, and the message a truly wonderful one. I have to admit, I laughed a great deal.

The book suffered from a few typos, easily enough fixed, and a questionable cover - but we don't judge a book by that, right? I think this book is an excellent primer for anyone interested in spirituality and wanting to ponder what they believe and why. This isn't a book for someone more interested in the scholastic side of theology, the debates about meaning and intention and all of that. This is a book for the practical person, one who wants to learn how to actively invite a more fulfilling life based upon.. well, hedging your bets. Want to learn how to invoke more good Karma than bad without meditating? Well, this book has some good ideas. ;)

Preeti Gupta has, in a way, accomplished a spiritual guide for super dummies, as she puts. the author shares lot of her personal experiences and examples, explaining why and how she believes in spirituality. Essentially she trumpets the Pascal's Wager (by 17th century physicist - Blaise Pascal) premise. i found some analogies that she mentioned absolutely fascinating. but like any typical agnostic or skeptic, Preeti also is very inclined towards organized religion concepts, in my opinion. as such there is nothing wrong but i think have a difference of opinion. i might fall under the 'people who do not agree' category according to Preeti, so the book was not meant for me, in some ways. i think this book is really a good primer for skeptics and most likely they will anchor towards the organized religion, if they are not already, after reading this. the fact that Preeti doesn't enforce/preach and is merely presenting her side of the story appealed to me a lot. she left for the skeptics to decide what to take/imbibe from her case. the writing is fairly easy on mind, with humor sprinkled for majority of the book - chic lit style, if i may say so. i did find good stuff and at the same time found many contradictory explanations to satisfy the contextual need of current topic. some analogies were far fetched. the book may as well be titled as I'll put 7 Chips on God - just in case.

I really wanted to like this book, but the more I read the more it grated on me. The author does try to add her own personality through the book and there is some relief to the "it's my way or your a person who does not agree" with little stories about herself.

You can tell the author has had several articles published in church type magazines as the book read like a typical preacher.

A lot of the science the author compared her theories against was clearly not understood by the author, she does state this at the beginning that she didn't research the science, and it became annoying. Another part that annoyed me was when using current debated issues to raise a point at least understand the argument from both sides. For example the book covered creationism vs evolution. All I got out of this was that evolutionist don't believe in god, a lot of evolution scientist do believe in god they just believe that animals changed over generations into their current forms instead of just everything being made in one go by god.

Honestly if you removed the first 200 pages or so of this book and just read what was left the author does make so nice points and the general message is pleasant.

Laugh out loud FUNNY, though I was able to really get into this book and actually did connect to it. Preeti takes a new look at an age old question we have all asked at one point and were too afraid to go any further on. it helps you answer questions for yourself without giving you the actual answer. Spirituality Hmmm well, what is it? as she puts it who knows there is no definitive answer nor has anyone been ballsy enough to make one. coming from her generation I all too well know where she is coming from. I have asked this question to many preachers etc. many just ignore me others say they dont know and truly dont want to attempt an answer. If God is the first and last, yet everything has a beginning and and end then where did god start? was he/she the big boom? and does he too like humans have an expiration date?
Yeah i dont try to answer it either, lol its just a question to ponder.
I must say if you have questions about your spirituality or "faith" you get it here, if not youll at least get a very good laugh and little bit of outlook at what gets us from where we are to where we want to be. Given a free ebook edition for review by goodreads author

I received an electronic revsion of this book awhile ago. It finally made it to the top of my reading pile.

I call myself a Christian. That doesn't mean that I don't respect and try understand other faiths and religions around the world. I believe that we all should learn about other people nad their beliefs. It will lead to better tolerance.

One thing that the authors states, is that she is no expert on any of the topics that are discussed and that she has a lot more to learn. I am happy that she made that statement. It puts us all at the same point. This book could almost be a Spirituolgy for Dummies as the author explores her own spiritology and tries to look at other religions and faiths. She tries to explain them in ways she and the reader might be able to understand. I applaud her effort.

The book is enjoyeable, athough I found the author to meander in coming to the conclusion of some of her chapters. I assumed that was a reflection of her own confusion about some subjects. Does spell out thing that she may not fully believe.

This is not a hard read. I enjoyed it. I recommend it for anyone who want to learn a little about spirituolgy.

Preeti Gupta is the kind of person I would gravitate toward during a discussion about spirituality, a person who talks like you and me, not getting too "heavy" with philosophical terms most of us wouldn't understand, like quoting Nietzche or saying I believe in so and so religion automatically solves the riddle of life.

I am Greek Orthodox, I believe there is a God (even though I do not know how she/he/it are like) but I also believe the Big Bang happened (maybe not randomly) and that we evolved to become human beings. Contradictory much? Just so the author or others will understand you don't have to be agnostic or atheist to enjoy and learn from this book, just open-minded.

The commandments for us readers:genius. I love that Gupta is not "preachy" just conveys opinions & what she may or may not believe with everyday examples, an ample imagination & humor, for topics from religion and if there is a soul to vegetarianism & astrology!!

Funny, witty & spiritual, the way I wish spiritual to be.

You have practically written about everything that goes on in my head too all the time. Very interesting and fun read. Dr Stephen Hawking said the more you study the universe the firmer you will believe in God.It is very true actually. You need not go looking for poltergeist activities or follow different types of prayer routines to feel the 'God'. The mechanism and functioning of universe and even microscopic stuffs like atoms and photons are more than sufficient to amaze one and make one believe in the power of a creator. But that creator need not to be necessarily in the form we can perceive. There are innumerable things in this cosmos which we do not understand and it is for human race's own good as knowledge can also be dangerous. In short, one must always keep an open mind in today's world.

So this is my first trip into the world of Spirituality. I'm not a fan of the whole religious thing. So to given the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review, I figured I had nothing to loose so entered it with a very open and willing mind. As the motto's go "never judge a book by it's cover" and "never say no till you've given it a go". To be honest this book has actuality opened my mind that I am a spiritualist of the sorts. Preeti has given her readers the opportunity/ taster of what spirituality is without laying it on thickly and blowing the mind. She has cleverly created an informative yet humorous journey, of how she has incorporated spirituality into her own life, and how you can easily do it to even with the little things. Enjoyable mind opener.

The big question is, how many chips do you want to put on the
MAYBE square and how many chips do you want to put on the
MAYBE NOT square? Do you want to put all your chips on one or
the other? Or would you prefer splitting them up, say 3 chips go on
Maybe, and 7 on Maybe Not? Do you want to completely ignore the
issue of Religion or Spirituality or a higher power for the rest of your
life? Or do you want to invest at least a little time in it? How confident
are you, that you will win your bet when the dice are rolled?--. All types of
energy already exist in the world, because according to science, “Energy
can neither be created nor destroyed.” But we first have to discover a new
form of energy before we know it exists--.
