Werewolves be damned. Tyra Smith chose to leave behind her nature to protect her heart after the wrenching loss of her own pack. She wants nothing to do with another wolf. Never again wants to feel the deep pain of loss. At least until a sexy-as-sin wolf named Konrad shows up, saving her from the roaming paws of another wolf.
The sparks of lust ignite a desire that burns with hellish intensity inside her, making her crave something she’d dared to forsake. The ability to resist wanes. Is it a true mate bond that pulls her to him or just the heat cycle she’s entering? Something only time can tell.
When a real threat from another pack presents itself, Tyra must move into Konrad’s den for her physical protection. But as things continue to heat up between the two of them, will he also be able to protect her heart?
Virginia Cavanaugh is a multi-published author of erotic romance. Her work covers many sub-genres as new characters present themselves to her every day. After working for years as a nurse in pediatrics, her love of the alpha hero sparked her desire to bring her own stories to life. When not playing housewife, mother, maid, laundress, taxi driver or just general all-around slave, she enjoys finding a quiet corner to read or work on her next story.
The Fire Inside is one the hottest book I have ever read by Virginia. I enjoyed reading her books because she always gives the right amount of romance and story, but this time around she also added a lot of action. This novella is a good length, so you get a feel for the characters.
Tyar has some issues, so some might think of this as a downside and I have to admit she was very flustering to read. Tyra is very reluctant to give into Konrad. I just had to keep in mind what happened to her and realize that some people really hesitate before jumping into a relationship. Once she gives, sparks starts flying and keeps flying until the end. Konard is strong and is willing to do anything to protect his mate even if he has to lay as a wolf by her front door in order to keep her safe.
I really enjoyed reading all the different characters in the story and I hope Virginia will write a few more with some of the other characters. I recommend this to anyone who likes a hot shifter read.
In THE FIRE INSIDE, a lone and lonely werewolf learns that denying your true nature isn't always an option when fate has other plans.
Tyra Smith is a werewolf who experienced tremendous loss and suffering when she was a young girl. She has since vowed to herself that she will be independent and will have nothing to do with her werewolf culture. Tyra is too afraid of the deep emotions that she experienced to ever allow herself close to anyone again. All of that changes when Tyra accidentally meets Konrad after work one night.
Konrad is concluding a business meeting with another pack Alpha when he senses Tyra is in trouble and goes to offer aid. When he gets close enough, he realizes Tyra is his mate and he will do anything to have her. Tyra senses the immediate connection between her and Konrad but she is going to fight fate so she can remain emotionally protected and independent. Will or fate--which will win out?
Ms. Cavanaugh accomplished what a lot of authors struggle to do with short stories--she got me to feel invested in the characters. In a short number of pages, I was able to feel I understood Tyra's emotional distress--where it came from and why she wanted to fiercely protect herself from future heartache. I very much appreciated the fact that Tyra viewed the mate bond as a loss of free will and that she wanted a more substantial relationship with Konrad. The two of them getting to know each other and the building attraction were steamy, intense, fun and well-written.
I also very much enjoyed the fact that there was an external conflict and antagonist, affecting Tyra and Konrad and their relationship. This added layer of the story made it more enjoyable and kept it from becoming boring or overly predictable. This was a great story.
The Fire Inside is the first book I have read by Virginia Cavanaugh. I to bad for me because she writes fantastic! The Fire Inside is one hell of a hot read. I love the way she write about her characters. Specially Tyra and Konrad. Konrad is not shy how he thinks about Tyra and reading about it will keep you on the edge of your seat.
“I need to speak to your alpha.” “No. You don’t. You need to move your arm so I can leave.” The sooner she got away from him the better. His heated gaze roamed over her face and she found herself breathing shallowly. “What have I done to anger you, mate?” “That. That’s what you did. I’m not your mate.” He leaned in close and ran his nose up her neck, inhaling a deep breath. “Yes, you are,” he whispered next to her ear. Her eyelids lowered to half mast as her body trembled. The warm, rich texture of his voice did things to her insides. Her core pulsed as she noticed wetness gathering at her lower lips. No. She couldn’t let him get to her. She inched back, creating a small space between them. “Get out of my way.” This couldn’t be happening. She didn’t want this. She wanted a human life, damn it. Or at least as close as she could get to one. “I know you feel it too. I can scent your desire the same as you can scent mine.”
Although Tyra is very reluctant to give into Konrad... and she gives up a good fight but when she does give in to Konrad. Fireworks comes of the pages. This is a fun read. Not to long or to short it is fast paced with full of action and hot scenes. I hope Virginia will keep on writing about these characters, they made me curious. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a hot shifter/wolf read!
Cover: The fire is there alright, love to see the wolf at the bottom. Don't need to guess its a shifter romance :)
Tyra has been living as a lone wolf since her pack was wiped out when she was a child. When she meets Alpha Konrad she wants to keep her distance so she doesn’t go through the pain of losing anyone else. However, Konrad knows that Tyra is his mate and he is relentless in his pursuit of her.
It’s a pretty common plot-line. Girl loses family young, pushes awesome guy ways to avoid getting hurt. The difference here is they are shifters. I enjoyed Konrad a lot. He wants to be with Tyra so he sets out to prove to her that he s a worthy mate for her. He doesn’t know about her past until about halfway through the book so he doesn’t understand why she is resistant of their mating at first. I understood her point but her continual resistance did get annoying.
I would have liked more time with the pack either before or after Tyra accepted the mating. The group dynamics were very enjoyable to read. I liked how the shifters seemed to operate a town. I would have liked to learn more about that. There is discussion of needing more land and such and I wanted more on the world building. The author spent most of the beginning of the story building the relationship between Tyra and Konrad so the sex scenes are mostly packed into the end of the novella.
I really enjoyed the world and characters introduced here and I hope Cavanaugh is far from done.
The second half of the story came across a bit disjointed to me. While the story itself is perfectly coherent, the writing sometimes seemed as though a different "voice" was telling the narrative. One sentence would read in a more formal tone. A page later, the writing would seem more conversational. I don't think I can explain it very well. The style (or mixture of styles) pulled me out of the story and I became disconnected from the characters. The emotional milestones didn't really hit for me and I ended up doing a lot skimming towards the end, which is kind of sad because I was really getting into the story.
The first book in the Lycan Lust series is a riveting erotic shifter romance that captures the heart. The author has created a captivating paranormal romance with wonderful characters that draw the reader deep into the story and has them wanting to know more. I found this short erotic novel to enjoyable and entertaining and I can’t wait to read the next one in the series.
Lacks persuasion and spirit but I am still tempted to boost it to two starts if only for the sole reason that I've read stuff that was much worse than this. As a series lead it failed to attract my attention, but I freely admit my rating may be suffering from the way-too-many syndrome: I've read way too many clones of this premise to be swayed by this particular incarnation.
This was my first wolf-shifter book, and having read The Fire Inside, I can honestly say I'm now sold. This book was loaded with great characters, fun, wit, and tons of sensuality. I cannot wait for the next book!
You gotta love shifter mates when one party tries to fight it. I love the hot and bothered feelings they get. This is also about love, safety and letting the past go.
