Firebrand #3

Possessed By Desire

Rate this book
Three djinn warriors. One power-hungry sorceress. The battle for good and evil has taken a whole new turn...

From New York Times Bestselling Author Elisabeth Naughton, the final story in a series about brotherhood, survival and unexpected love in a world filled with magic and betrayal.

Even desire comes at a price…

Imprisonment has taught Ashur, the youngest djinn prince enslaved by a power-hungry sorceress, one thing: life as a pleasure slave has its rewards…if you play by the rules. He’s been tortured. He’s nearly died protecting a tribe that’s forsaken him. But he’s also seen life on the other side as an obedient slave. For a shot at revenge against the brothers who abandoned him, he’s willing to serve his master, even if it means using passion to corrupt the souls she needs to fuel her immortality.

His first assignment, however, turns out to be more than just a woman in need of a little pleasure. Claire is an angel, and angels have the ability to steal djinn powers. No amount of vengeance—not even a ravenous desire he can’t seem to control—is worth the loss of his powers. And there’s no way he’s tangling with a celestial being. Unless, of course, she tangles with him first…

Before topping multiple bestseller lists—including those of the New York Times, USA Today, and the Wall Street Journal—award winning author Elisabeth Naughton taught middle school science. A voracious reader, she soon discovered she had a knack for creating stories with a chemistry of their own. The spark turned into a flame, and Elisabeth now writes full-time.

Though primarily known for her romantic suspense work, Elisabeth has penned over thirty books and continues to write in multiple genres, including paranormal romance and contemporary romance. Her books have been translated into numerous languages and have earned several award nominations, including three prestigious RITA® nominations from Romance Writers of America. In 2017, REPRESSED, the first book in her Deadly Secrets series, won the RITA® for best romantic suspense.

Elisabeth's work has been praised by the Chicago Tribune as being filled with "deadly intrigue, high adrenaline action, and scorchingly hot passion.” Kirkus calls her "a writer talented enough at weaving a yarn to get her readers ensnared in it.” When not dreaming up new stories, Elisabeth can be found spending time with her husband and three children in their western Oregon home, wrangling two cats, or chasing after one very rambunctious Dalmatian.

REVIEW: POSSESSED BY DESIRE is the third storyline in Elisabeth Naughton’s Firebrand trilogy of novellas. This is Ashur’s story.

Believing he has been abandoned by his brothers, Ashur is the last of the siblings who remains willingly enslaved by an evil Sorceress. Imprisoned and trained as a sex slave, Ashur will find himself pulled into another dimension when a human female commands the power of the Firebrand opal. And to the Sorceresses delight, this human female is much more than a mere woman, but a being a supernatural power. With renewed efforts, the Sorceress sends Ashur back to claim the woman’s soul but in doing so sets a series of events into motion that involve all of Ashur’s brothers and their new found mates.

The relationship between Ashur and Claire is one built on want and need. Ashur believes Claire has used the power of the Firebrand opal to command a slave but Claire soon learns she was being tested. Ashur and Claire both want something from each other and each believes they need it to survive.

To be honest, I did not feel the connection between Ashur and Claire in this particular storyline. Ashur was duty-bound to the Sorceress to bring back Claire’s soul and he knew that Claire had the power to strip him of his own. But there was so much pent up hostility in Ashur directed at his brothers, at the Sorceress and at Claire, that his actions seemed almost stilted and robotic-even in the bedroom. I did not feel the emotions or the burning desires as in the two other previous storylines.

Possessed by Desire is an interesting tale but one that was missing something-it did not grab me like the other two storylines. There was something different but in the end, it was a welcome addition to the Firebrand series.

Inhalt
Claire ist ein Engel. Kein richtiger Engel.

Ashur will lieber gehorchen und gefallen.

My Review: This series just keeps getting better and better, I don't want it to end!!! I have really come to love all the characters, flaws and all. The storyline for this book seemed a lot more intense than the previous two books and had some great underlying messages. Again while it did a great job of rounding out the series, I can't help but wish it didn't have to end. I want so much more and I want to revisit some of the sub-characters we briefly met, but I guess that is a testament to the author that she created such a great world and characters that I don't want to leave. True to the phrase 'leave them wanting more'.

"Possessed By Desire" by Elisabeth Naughton. Book 3 in the Firebrand Trilogy.

Most excellent ending to the Firebrand Trilogy. I really enjoyed reading this story.

Ashur, the youngest of his brothers, Tariq and Nasir, has been captured by an evil sorceress while trying to save his brother Tariq. He's being trained to be a pleasure slave to help the sorceress corupt human soles which she feeds on. But now he's been told that Tariq is free and living in the human world and his brother Nasir is dead. No one is looking for him. As dispair sets in, Ashur has resigned himself to being a pleasure slave, but doesn't actually feel any pleasure himself.

Claire has been searching for the Firebrand Opals since she helped Mira free Tariq from his opal. The Opals are the key to getting her emotions back. The problem is she has to go to the Djinn world to get the opals and the only way she can get there is to get a Djinn to take her. She's found an opal that will call one of the Djinn to her and her plan is to seduce him into taking her to his world. But she didn't know it was going to be Ashur that would be sent to her.

Overall, I really enjoyed the ending to this series. The chemistry between the main characters was very well done. And I really liked the interaction between all three brothers. The conclusion to all the storylines fit together seemlessly.

I recommend reading this trilogy.

For some reason at the beginning of this book I kind of felt lost it was something about she was wondering where her bottle ended up in the ocean and she was going to get in trouble for it and "they" knew what she was up to. Was that clear? Yeah not really to me either. As you go on to read you figure things out for yourself but there where a couple of parts like the one mentioned above where I felt like I was wading through mud. Or like that saying clear as mud. I may just be one of those people who like to know the background information as well so I know who the people are and what is going on and why that is. So other than that whole befuddlement it was an okay book. I've read better, I've read worse.

Story:
The third djinn brother Ashur is Zoraidas pleasure slave, but unlike his brothers, he isn't bothered with his situation. He has even turned his back against his brothers, feeling that they have betrayed him. But then he's sent on his first mission and he meets Claire.

Cover:
Very nice cover. I really like the colors!

Review:
After reading the first two books in this series I just had to read the third. Yet again the writing is great and the story captured me. Ashur is a very interesting character and you sometimes can't tell which side his on, which makes it even more exiting. But I didn't feel the connection between Ashur and Claire like I did between the characters in the first two books.

Actually digital copy

Ashur, the third Prince that has been captured and enslaved is not really enjoying his time as a pleasure slave any more than his brothers were. He has heard that his brothers are no longer enslaved but rather than bring him joy the news makes him despair of escape for himself. Clare, a trapped Angel has been searching for an opal so that she can go to Djinn-land and reclaim something quite personal to her so that she can become her true self once more. This is a case where then ending is known pretty much from the start but the journey and so much pleasure is in getting there. For me, the novellas progressed in quality and I would have liked this one to go on just a little longer because I liked both characters and their chemistry together

*** Spoilers ***

I did not like the way the third book started and did not like, Ashur, the male lead, as much as the other brothers.
Ashur acted like a spoiled brat.
Why did Claire have to seduce Ashur or any other djinni to appear, why not tell them the
truth and ask for their help in exchange for helping them?

I repeat from book 2:
What happened to Malik, did he die a slave?
What happened to the Pits of Jahannam?
There was no followup with this book as well with several unanswered questions.

Oh, well, the series ended with several unanswered questions.

Hmmm... well you can't hit the nail on the head with every book in a series. I never connected with these characters. There was just something off with them for me. Still, it is a good series and one I have enjoyed.
