Review from Maddie of Divas Read Too
I have stalled with reading this book until I just couldn’t stall any longer. I was about to lose a good friend if I didn’t read this book. I'm the last of the Divas to read UNTITLED and while we've all given it 5 Stars, I'm the only one who is completely obsessed with these characters. Once I started this book, I couldn’t put it down. Seriously, I was reading while cooking, at doctor’s appointments, and at work. There are so many positives about this book, so many life lessons…it’s awesome.
Books that have characters that reel me in and make me still love them after I've closed the book are few and far between. With these characters, Aiden, Sunny, and his little sister, I feel like they are a part of my life now.
Aiden IS THE MAN! Aiden is super hot and sexy with a whole lot of SWAG. He’s your ideal musician…think John Mayer with Idris Alba swagger. I love him! He’s a bit stubborn but determined and his determination to make it as a blues player – a white blues player – is the reason why the book is so good. Plus he gets all the girls…of course.
Aiden gets a guitar for his 16th birthday, but not a regular guitar. It's an autographed Keith Richards’ guitar but he is pissed because he thought he was getting a car. He sticks it under his bed and forgets about it. He goes on doing his high school jock thing, but here’s the thing about Aiden. He hates football and he desperately wants to get out of his small “Truman Show” town. He wants to be different and extraordinary but it doesn’t look like that’s in the cards for him. His best friend, Paulie, the bi-racial son of a hippie single father introduces Aiden to the music of Jimi Hendrix and convinces him to learn how to play the guitar.
Aiden’s obsessive personality leads him to dive head-first into discovering music in a way he never had before and playing his guitar. He’s a natural talent. Finally, there's something he’s really good at. When he starts to write his own songs, he decides that music is going to be his way out of a perfectly average and boring life.
He moves to Atlanta and starts making music but his career is going nowhere fast. This is when I really fell in love with this book.
After moving to Atlanta, (my neck of the woods) Aiden meets his neighbor, Sunny. At first, I didn't know if I was going to like this girl. She comes off as sarcastic and full of attitude in the beginning. Sunny speaks her mind and holds nothing back. After a few chapters, I realized what Sunny is. She is the anti-Aiden. Eventually, Sunny and Aiden become more than jus neighbors...hell, the become more than jus friends. Aiden is able to break down Sunny's hard exterior but is masterful about building his own walls when it comes to his feelings for her. As he jumps around from girl to girl, it's obvious that he's doing it just because he can't have the woman he wants.
Not only does this book explore the rise to fame of Aiden but it’s a powerful angle on the difference between friends and friends with benefits. I love Sunny and Aiden together. They are a dynamic duo who get shit done. Aiden’s career would be nowhere without Sunny.
I don’t do spoilers but the ending of this book was EVERYTHING! I love how the author gave us a 300+ page book and followed up with another full length novel. That's what I call a series!
